developing in the gulf of alaska. out ahead of that high pressure will build in. 60, 70s, 80s and a few upper 80s and a few 90s. here is sal. steve, good morning to you. traffic is moving along pretty well around the bay area. we are looking at the golden gate bridge. traffic looks good heading out to the toll plaza. also the bay bridge toll plaza is light. no major problems on the bridge. lower deck of the bay bridge. road work in the right lanes this morning. watch out for the construction zone. and san mateo bridge traffic looks pretty good. now let's go back to the desk. all right, thank you, sal. we begin with overnight news from santa rosa. police are searching for two men that stormed into an armored car warehouse late last night. allie rasmus tells us how the crime created a terrifying situation for the workers

inside. allie. >> reporter: according to san if rosa police the two victims were both prose of the garda armored truck company. we are in santa rosa. this lot is where they store the armored trucks. this started just after 11:00 last night. santa rosa police say they received a 911 call. that call game from one of the company employees that said he and a coworker had been locked inside one of the armored trucks during an attempted robbery. employees say they believe the two suspects the two men that stormed the building appeared to be armed. police are not certain of that. >> we had an employee of an armored car company that called the police indicating they were locked inside. just had been robbed. we arrived. we had to free the employees because the doors were locked. once we freed the employees we found they were unharmed. we have our detective crew out here in the preliminary stages

of the investigation. >> reporter: police say it's not clear whether the two suspects got away with any money or property. police are still looking for them. we are expecting to get more details on what happened here. and a suspect description possibly later on this morning. allie rasmus ktvu channel 2 news. tests will be performed today on the pet pit bull that killed a pregnant woman in pacifica. the attack happened yesterday. police say greg napora returned home from work to find his wife darla on the ground with trauma to his body and face. >> quiet neighborhood you know. nothing like that ever happens around here. i know it's unfortunate. those dogs are dangerous. >> police officers ended up killing the dog when it charged at them. but tests will still be performed so investigators can

find possible clues about what might have led up to the dog's attack. the man who confessed to killing oakland journalist chauncey bailey will be sentenced this morning. broussard will receive 29 years in prison for killing bailey four years ago. as part of a plea deal he testified yusuf bey iv ordered the killing. the jury agreed. belmont police arrested two burglary suspects who say may be responsible for hundreds of thefts in san mateo county. the suspects are 21-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman. both from san mateo county. police say they have recovered dozens of stolen items from the two including purses, wallets, and cell phones. it's still unclear if they are connected to a recent string of burglars in belmont over the past month. the man charged in the drive-by shooting that killed three-year-old carlos nava is back in court this morning.

lawrence denard is a convicted felon with a long history of violence. he was aiming for two rival gang members when he shot the little boy outside an east oakland pizza parlor. police chief anthony battss hopes it will lead to change on the mean streets of oakland. >> monday, august 8th, at 1:12:00 p.m. should be the rallying cry for the city to turn this around. >> denard made a brief court appearance yesterday. he is due back in court this afternoon to arrange for a lawyer. he faces he could be sentenced to -- he could spend the rest of his life in prison if convicted. ktvu news has exclusive video of that shooting. it shows the horrible scene that unfolded on 64th avenue. much of the video is too disturbing to show you. you can see the two adult victims wounded in the attack on the sidewalk in a crowd

gathering nearby. ktvu viewer smith who took this video is now hoping to help the little boy's family. he's planning a fundraiser later this month. france's economy ground to a near stop during the spring but policymakers took steps to soothe investors in the french market. that seems to be working so far this morning. all the major european markets are in positive territory. overnight the markets in asia finishes with south korea and taiwan down by more than 1%. nintendo,man somic, australia, new zealand all finished up slightly. checking in on our markets. huge swings in both directions this week. analysts are saying it's really signs of a weak economy to see such big swings in one week. dow jones up 423 points to 11,143. the nasdaq and s & p also

posting big gains as well. we'll get a better indication of what will happen today. although who knows. it certainly changes during the day. the irs warns con artists are posing as tax preparers showing up at churches and community service centers and charging hundreds of help in filing forms. the irs says there are several ways to spot tax scams. they include claims for the making work pay credit. which is a program that has expired. offers of free money with no documentation required. clients not being told to sign forms or being given copies of forms. the irs is investigating hundredsover complaints from san jose, oakland, fresno, and sacramento. no more crosses will be added to a hillside memorial in lafayette recognizing falling troops. volunteers have been adding white crosses for each service

member killed in iraq. the final cross was hammered into the hillside memorial this week. organizers have said it has become difficult to keep track of the number of service members killed overseas. overnight we learned the names of the death of two more service members. they died in separate attacks yesterday. one was a french soldier. the other soldiers nationality is not known. five american soldiers were killed yesterday in an insurgent attack. we are getting a look at a wreckage of the helicopter that crashed in afghanistan killing 30 americans. among the dead are four california service members. derrick benson, harvell, louis

langlais. those protests could disrupt service during peak commute times. bart had a small army of police officers at san francisco civic center station. those officers may have shut down a protest before it started. bart even admits shutting off cell phone service to everyone inside the station. >> actually media relations people made that decision. >> tactics got the cops news. >> he specifically said it was the public relations department that made the decision to turn off the cell service. >> we suggested it. >> bart is trying to avoid a repeat of this scene one month ago. a demonstration over the deadly police shooting at the civic center station got out of hand. the protest caused delays for the entire bart system. it's 4:38. we want to go to sal to check in on traffic this morning. hi sal. >> good morning, pam. traffic is -- happy friday to you i should say. traffic is doing well if you

are driving around the bay area. let's take a look at highway 4. you can see the traffic is doing very nicely. continuing out to the willow pass grade. at the bay bridge toll plaza it's light so far. the traffic continues to move along nicely. and on this san mateo bridge northbound 280 traffic continues to look good. getting up to highway 17. now let's go to steve. >> thanks, sal. we do have thick fog. not only the coast but also inland. a sign the squashing of the marine layer there could be mist or drizzle over the weekend. if you are in that fog, especially inland, it can be a little on the chilly side. temperatures in the low 50s. overall sunny day. temperatures coming up a little bit. few high clouds might filter by. the sea breeze has been cut in half compared to yesterday when it was howling through the delta. still west, southwest at 17. yesterday it was up to 30. that is a little decrease there. that should equal a couple degrees warmer.

good morning, we do have some low clouds. temperatures inland should come up a couple degrees. thick fog this morning along the coast and into the north bay. gives way to sunshine today and slightly warmer temps. police in norway say the man accused of killing 69 people at a labor party camp might have filmed the entire massacre. it's believed bravic filmed the massacre as a -- bay sick is also accused of setting off a bomb that killed eight people in oslo. some of the arrests may have been aided by a popular photo sharing website. london police posted pictures on flicker. courts in london and two other cities are now staying open all night long to help process the

more than 1,000 cases. funeral services will be held today for the san diego police officer killed during an unprovoked attack. 36-year-old jeremy henwood was shot in the head last weekend. the gunman flashed his headlights as to to seek help. he pulled alongside the officer and opened fire. the suspected gunman was shot to death by police. election news the sparks were flying and the republican presidential debate in iowa last night. all eight candidates attacked president obama's handling of the economy. and as expected, there were digs at front runner mitt romney. but it was the heated sparring between minnesota rivals tim pollenate and michelle -- tim pawlenty and michelle bachmann. >> she said she's got a

titanium spine. it's not her spine we are worried about. it's her record of results. >> today, most of the republican candidates are heading to the iowa state fair for some speeches. they will be joined by sarah palin who has not officially entered the presidential race but has decided to restart her bus tour in iowa. president obama's reelection campaign tweeted this message following the republican debate. quote our take biggest loser in gop debate is the middle class. unmentioned for third debate in a row. a spokesman for texas governor rick perry is confirming that perry will enter the presidential race tomorrow. he will make his official announcement tomorrow. governor perry is known as a social and fiscal conservative. about one out of every five california high school students dropped out of high school last near. the new report says 94,000 students did not get a diploma.

that's about 18%. in the bay area 37est. san francisco had a considerably lower rate of 11%. the state says these new numbers can't be compared to past years because it's using a new more accurate formula. the hate crime against latinos are on the rise in california but hate crimes overall are down. 119 hate crimes against latinos were reported last year. that is up from 81 in 2009. hate crimes against african americans were down last year. hate crimes against bay people and jewish people were down last year in california. a new report helds casey anthony responsible for the death of her daughter even though she has been acquitted in court. the florida department of children and families concluded that anthony failed to protect her two-year-old daughter caylee. either through her actions or

lack of actions. the state agency is mandated to conduct reviews when there are allegations that a child dies as a result of abuse, abandonment, or negligent. that's month the murder cleared her of murder but convicted her of lying to investigators. an 18-year-old vermont man will not face charges after urinating on an 11-year-old girl during a cross country flight. it happened last tuesday on a jet blue flight. police say the intoxicated man got up from his seat, walked down the aisle and urinated on the sleeping girl. security experts say the incident needs to be taken seriously. >> in a number of individuals drunk and intoxicated orphan a flight-- intoxicated on a flight become unruly. it could be any number of things. >> the girl's father declined to press charges. reportedly to spare his

news. it's 4:51. workers in japan plan to build a huge tent to cover a reactor at the fukushima reactor plant. it was damaged in an explosion from anth quake and tsunami back in march. it's to keep radio active materials from stemming. the test flight of a super fast experimental military plane has failed. it crashed into the pacific ocean yesterday shortly after taking off from an air force base. the plane was made to be fast enough to travel from california to new york in under 12 minutes. the pentagon wants to use it to fly anywhere in the world in under 60 minutes to launch missiles. this was the second failure of the $320 million technology this year. you may soon be able to text 911 during emergencies. palo alto, mountain view, plan

to upgrade their technology within the next year. the technology would allow emergency operators receive text, photos, and videos from cell phones. a plan to overhaul dispatch centers nation-wide is in the works. chrysler is rolling out a program it hopes will encourage workers to become buyers. they are offering customers no payments for 90 days for all of 2011 and 2012 chrysler, jeep, dodge, and ram buyers. to get the deal you must finance through allied financial. the program will run through september sixth. good year says it's working on tires that reinflate themselves. the company says there is an inflation device each tire that keeps track of air pressure. it adds air when necessary. it says that makes them safer because tires never get dangerously low and it would save gas since under inflated

237 looks good as you cross 880. this is a look at interstate 880 that traffic looks very nice driving past the oakland coliseum. no major problems today. all those raider fans are finally home. finally left. and this morning's commute is okay here at the bay bridge toll plaza with a little bit of delay in the cash lanes. hello steve. good morning, sal. >> happy friday. >> thank you, sir. thick fog out there. we saw some toward milpitas and the north bay and santa rosa. not only coast but also inland. it's also a sign that high pressure is building in. maybe a mist. drizzle by the coast. but it's going to ramp up as we head into the weekend as we go into a cooler trend. a few high clouds drifting up. you can see those move in toward monterey county and santa clara county. the sea breeze has been cut in half compared to yesterday. today it's only 17. that is cut in half.

that is a sign temperatures will warm up a little bit. 50s or very low 60s. 57 napa airport. cooler about five degrees cooler than that closer to town. big system coming out of the gulf of alaska. as it does, high pressure will come in just as it gets on its toes for a day or two. inland temps will bump up a little bit. coast, fog or sun. it will be warmer inland. 80-90 degrees. we won't lose the bruise but it -- lose the breeze but it will be there. few mid to upper 80s. some 90s as well. 77 san jose. temperatures near average to slightly below. more fog though. cooler pattern kicks in sunday and takes us into early next week. coming up on 5:00. two men storm an armored car warehouse overnight. the terrifying situation they created for the workers inside.
