>> -- way. about a half-hour later a store clerk was shot at a 7-eleven store in hillcrest avenue and the latest shooting was just after 1:00 a.m. and was again on ban onway. kraig debro is out there talking to police pat the crime scenes, he will have more coming up and all the details in just a couple of minutes. >> one man is now in custody fondling an overnight shooting in san rafael. that happened around midnight near second street and west end avenue. the shooting prompted a massive police response. officers from several marin county law in forcement agencies took part in the manhunt. police eventually found the suspect hiding in some bushes. he is accused of shooting and injuring one per, the condition of the victim is unknown. >> san francisco police are now considering a very controversial law enforcement program, ktvu's christien kafton joining us live with the details of what it is they are

thinking about. christian, good morning. >> reporter: yeah, a big change for san francisco residents who are calling police for non- emergency and nonviolent crime. they might soon see civilian crime-fighters coming out instead of uniformed police officers coming out in vehicles like this one. it is part of a new program. the police chief is backing the program saying it will allow officers to focus on dangerous crimes and crimes in progress as well as giving victims better response time. this is using civilian investigators to respond to nonviolent and property crimes like burglaries and car breakins, the chief has been contemplating using civilian investigators for five years modeling after a program that is already underway in the united kingdom, but the idea is getting opposition from san francisco police union leaders. union leaders are worried that civilian investigators might miss crucial evidence and they are also worried that the plan

could seriously hrnd the special prosecution of suspects if there was questions about how evidence was collected. the program will train 15 civilian investigators to interview witnesses and victims and to collect crime scene finger print and dna evidence and take crime scene photos, that program is set to get underway here in san francisco in january of next year. we are live in san francisco, christien kafton, ktvu channel 2 news. >> 5:02. as we mentioned earlier it has been a violent night in antioch, police are trying to figure out if three overnight shootings may be connected. the first one happened and it was deadly. it was about 12:18 this morning, it happened on ban onway. then about a half-hour later a store clerk was shot at a 7- eleven store on hillcrest avenue. the very latest shooting was just after 1:00 a.m. and again, this was on ban onway. ktvu's kraig debro is out there right now, so kraig, what do you know? >> reporter: good morning, dave. it is ban onway and sick ka

more -- [ inaudible ] >> reporter: -- happened just before midnight. you can see behind me police are very busy with the crime scene -- [ inaudible ] >> reporter: -- ban on, you see police there still evidence tech on the ground. third person showed up at a hospital with -- [ inaudible ] >> reporter: -- here is what police say happened at around 12:00 this morning. they say shortly after midnight they received a call shots fired here on ban onnear sick ka more drive. when they arrived one person was lying in the street. witnesses say two fled on foot and the others in a car. >> it looks like essentially the victim was walking down the street by himself. a vehicle stopped near him. a couple of people approached him on foot. there were multiple gunshots fired. this does not appear be random. >> reporter: about an hour

later a witness told forels men entered a 7-eleven. they shot the clerk but right now it doesn't appear that they robbed the place. >> we located a 64-year-old clerk who worked at the store who had at least two gunshot wounds that we are aware of. at this point they don't appear to be life-threatening. he, too, was transported to a trauma center. [ inaudible ] >> reporter: now about an hour after this a person showed up at the local hospital here and that person said i had been shot. he claimed he had been shot at this location. police are a little suspicious of that because according to witnesses the victim here at ban onand sick ka more was by himself, so they are not sure if the person who claimed he was shot was perhaps shot by a stray bullet or perhaps maybe he was in the suspect car. they interviewed the person but then that person had to be transported to another hospital, a trauma center for his treatment. that person described as a 22-

year-old antioch resident. the homicide victim is described as a 20-year-old antioch respect. police tell me that they know that he has friends on this blox and he may have been going to visit friends at this time. it is somebody they have had contact with before. live from antioch, kraig debro, ktvu channel 2 news. >> a girl attacked by a pit bull is home from the hospital this morning and is expected to make a full recovery. this happened saturday when she was bitten by the pit bull when she tried to pet it. officials have not confirmed if this was the dog that tacked the little girl but they are sure what they will -- [ inaudible ] [overlapping speakers] [ inaudible ] >> -- euthanized. >> -- death of a two-year-old boy in concord. he was killed when a relative's

before 2:00 yesterday morning. fire investigators say five children and two adults were inside a one bedroom unit where the fire started everyone made it out safely except for the little girl. she was taken to a nearby hospital where she was pronounced dead. >> -- sad seeing that, you know. i-- you know, my condolences to the family. >> the little girl was from durham, north carolina, and was visiting family. nine other neighbors suffered minor injuries. six families lost their homes. >> time now 5:09. well, starting today napa residents will get notices telling them to throw away any grapes grown on their property this year. napa county officials are trying to protect paul the grapes from the european grapevine moth. it invaded the county last year. agriculture experts say if you destroy small patches of grapes like the ones grown by amateur winemaker, that will eliminate a major food source for knee

about 15 fires are burring in remote areas of some

5:25. in germany an investigation is underway into exactly what happened at a music festival over the weekend where 19 people were killed. take a look at this amateur video of the techno music event called the love parade. this is on saturday. look at all the people. it is estimated more than a million people showed up for this festival. and there was one tunnel that was one way in and only one way out. now reportedly the police asked people inside the festival to turn around and leave because it was overcrowded. but others were still piling in through that one tunnel and all of the confusion sparked a panic and then stampede. look at this. in addition to 19 people killed more than 100 people were hurt. and the organizer says that is it. there will be no more love parades. >> it has been a night of violence in one bay area city. police are investigating three

in january of next year. christien kafton ktvu channel 2 news. >> police leaders from across the bay area will meet this week. now they will discuss their response in oakland following the verdict in the bart police shooting case. the night of jewel 8th unpreced among 1000 officers from 15 bay area police agencies but it also brought unprecedented logistical problems -- [overlapping speakers] [ inaudible ] >> -- carjacked but the driver with a passenger inside took off, leading officers on a chase. the car crashed on arkansas street where police say one of the suspects started firing at officer. i that fired back but no ones was hit.

officers arrested one of the suspects qlielt the other is still on the loose. >> 5:33. witnesses are being asked to come forward following a shooting. kerry dawson was shot to diet but 1:15 saturday morning. he was sitting inside his ford fusion car. he was able to drive three blocks before he crashed. he later died at the hospital. if you have any information about this shooting contact san francisco police. a bay area teenager apparently drowned over the weekend while swimming in a popular lake in fresno county. 16-year-old robert maldonado of newark died yesterday during an outing with some friends at schaffer lake in the sierra 50 miles from fresno. he disappeared 30 minutes after getting into the waterch bystanders were able to pull him out but not able to revive him. officials are waiting for the results of an autopsy to confirm exactly how he died.

>> today a judge will put the legal wheels in motion for the retrial of daily -- a daily city man accused of stabbing his wife to death. in 2008 a jury found quincy norton, senior, guilty of first degree murder, put the judge later ruled that norton's attorney failed to provide proper legal representation. this morning that same judge will review motions for a second trial. nor phone has repeatedly denied killing his wife. police are urging people in concord to be on alert after three pipe bombs were found at a park. new hall park re-opened on saturday with extra officers on patrol. on friday after police say that a man walking in the area discovered a pipe bomb, two other devices were discovered on wednesday and all three were safely detonated. no arrests have been made and no suspects identified. >> the food and drug administration is warning consumers this morning about food made by a south san francisco company. now that company has issued a

major recall. ktvu's jade hernandez joining us live now with the details of what triggered that warning. good morning, jade. >> reporter: good morning. this is a multi state voluntary recall and this company is headquartered and based right here in south san francisco, that is where we are live this morning. the california department of health says if you purchased a product with this label, these products are under the rackel brand name and are manufactured by quong hop and company, today's recall included prepackaged wraps and sandwiches. they have a date of september 23rd and prior. the sandwiches and other food items have a sell by date of august third and prior. the products may be contaminated by a dangerous bacteria, listeria, which causes symptoms such as fever, headaches and stomach pains. it is distributed in several different states including arizona, organize gone and washington and, of course right here in california.
