actually address the multi-billion dollar budget deficit that it's currently facing. now, the non-partisan legislative analyst's office says the state is facing a projected deficit of about 73 billion dollars. however, governor gavin newsom has said in the past he believes that amount is actually much lower in today's presentation, he's likely to announce where he thinks the deficit stands and the plans he has to close that gap, which could include some cuts in different areas. and according to the associated press, this is the second year in a row that california has had this deficit and the state has avoided making some painful cuts to major ongoing programs and services. however, some cuts have been done in those are one-time spending and also delayed other spending while borrowing from other accounts. we did speak with lawmakers on both sides of the aisle about the deficit and what they expect to hear today. >> we know the revenues generally coming in lower than the forecast and that's concerning. and so we are prepared for some very difficult choices at the bottom line is they're going to make cuts.
