family. greg turnage was killed on mother's day 3 years ago while out on a walk in oakland, the man convicted in his death has been sentenced now alameda county courtroom. but will serve no prison time for theresa reports. >> and he was just funny and gentle she was an amazing father. that's what made me really fall in love with angie bray says she is still in a state of shock. and at that point, it's just kind of on wednesday, timothy home on the man who struck her partner, greg and father to their son miles. >> hitting him on an oakland sidewalk pled guilty to hit and run leading to death and vehicular manslaughter. despite that fact, brace as home will serve no time in jail or prison. >> nobody stepped in. mean, there is all the evidence, all the witnesses that were ready to testify for a says that on

a person and as a father to justify not. >> races. in the meantime, they continue to honor greg's life and keep his memory alive. theresa stasi, new kron, 4 news. >> all right. let's talk weather as we take a peek here and the east bay that 6.80, where it has really turned up the heat this week. yeah, i feel like our green hills are going to start to turn brown and no time with all of hot weather. >> lawrence is also tracking some wild weather across the country. you know, we're headed toward the peak now of tornado season here in may. and, boy, it has been rough the last 3 weeks. and tonight. >> no different. we've got some major storms again, breaking out across the country, a little more scattered than yesterday, but we've got pockets of these storms rolling on through right now. very dangerous weather developing in the evening hours. you can see a lot of that com should concentrated toward the north and the south of this evening as the rain continues to fall.

and you've got some big time thunderstorms rolling on through. here's a look at some of the storm reports on the backside of some of these storms. you can see a couple of tornadoes touching down. some of those actually doing some damage in some areas, seeing some of those tornadoes parts georgia and some of that doing some damage on their one reported on the ground there near alamo to the north, get to some more activity. there are reports of tornadic activity as well. but just some scary whether these come at you so fast, they come in. they go so quickly we've got some more possible areas where we could see some more tornadoes into texas justoeast and south of the san angelo. tornado watches are in effect until 9 o'clock this evening and further east of that with some very strong sales continue to rotate on through. then further to the east. here we go. another round of possibly severe weather continue to make its way through parts of alabama headed eastward right now and more on the way and further north, it's less about the tornadoes, but more about the rain. some very heavy rainfall coming down in some of these cells. so they've got flash flood watches and warnings

have been issued across much of the ohio valley and watching out for that tonight and tomorrow to so severe weather, real possibility across the country again for tomorrow take a little bit different track again. more spread out. see the deep south, seeing some very strong storms, more cold air making its way across the colorado rockies back into the plains. and there you go. you could have some more trouble in the texas panhandle tomorrow afternoon. >> thank you, lawrence. the pro-palestinian demonstration at sacramento state has come to an end. protesters there agreed to the university's order to move out by midnight last night. the end of the encampment comes with a win for those who spent the last week and a half protesting, the university has agreed to change its policies and divest from corporations. protesters say profit off of what they call a genocide in gaza and human rights violations. similar requests have been brought up at other college protests all across the country. state is the first in the cal state university system to agree to those demands. meantime, a group of

staff members and faculty at ucla are calling a for chancellor gene block to resign immediately in the wake of gaza war protests and arrests on that campus. dozens rallied outside of ucla younger research library this morning. it support of the students and staff who were arrested during and after the pro-palestinian demonstrations at ucla. they want legal charges and academic penalties against those individuals to be dropped. and for a chancellor block to step down for allegedly mishandling the ordeal. >> we the undersigned back poll, but universities failure to protect our students during the mob attacked and police tear down a new picture that unfolded during the nights and early mornings of april 30. and may 1st to second student protesters despite their nonviolent resistance were subjected to an excessive level of orders in some states that injuries.

>> chancellor block had previously announced he plans to retire this july. and after weeks of tensions, protests and arrests on campus, usc is planning a big party tonight for the graduating class of 2024, the event replaces the main commencement ceremony, which was canceled amid the ongoing controversy. it all began when the school decided to pull the valedictorian's speech over security concerns after pro-israel groups accused her of being anti-semitic. a claim that she has denied many graduating seniors say the decision to cancel commencement was disappointing, especially after their high school graduations were shut down due to the pandemic. >> the jury has convicted a former candidate for santa clara county sheriff for falsely certifying sheep had the required experience to run for the job. 51 year-old on colton was listed on the primary ballot and got more than 4% of the vote based on her false certification. state

law requires candidates for sheriff have at least one year of law enforcement experience within the last 5 years or a certificate showing advanced training in law enforcement. investigators say had neither the district attorney's office says the number of votes cast in support of colton was not enough to change the overall outcome of the election. she was released today on time served. 21 year-old motorcyclist is dead following a crash in rohnert park officials say was riding in the area of redwood business park drives last night when he collided with a car. the motorcyclist was taken to the hospitan where he died. the 2 people in the car were taken to hospitals for their injuries that are expected to be ok, according to officials, alcohol does not seem to be a factor here. the names of everyone involved are being withheld during the investigation. >> the man accused of attempting to kill his family by driving off a cliff in san mateo county. we'll have a final hearing tomorrow in a

mental health diversion court. the case hinges on what kind of mental health crisis. the father was suffering from when he drove off highway one in january of last year, his wife and 2 kids were inside the car when it plunged 250 feet off a cliff. amazingly, they all survived. the judge could decide to divert tell us case out of criminal court and into a mental health treatment program. instead. but if the judge rules in favor of the defense patel would be freed from jail immediately. and once he completes a two-year program, his record would be cleared. >> to porsche's have been stolen from a dealership in fremont. police are still trying to find one of the people responsible here. take a look. this is the suspect. they say they're still looking for. he's pictured with one of the cars. police say last month 2 people broke into the porsche dealership on cushing way and drove the cars through the glass. the first suspect nova moore was arrested last month in hayward. police say

they found rifle stolen property and even a police radio scanner in his home. anyone with info on the second suspect is asked to call fremont police. the fda is preparing for the possibility of bird flu being able to jump to humans. but the agency's chief says the chances of that happening, our low commissioner robert califf testified before congress today or yesterday rather saying the h 5 n one virus is mutating and that the real concern would the for humans their impact to their low see says that death rate could be 10 times worse than covid. if that were to happen. so they are preparing just in case the virus is currently affecting a dairy cattle in at least 9 states. 2 cases have been reported people who were around presumably infected animals. the fda continues to scream the dairy supply for any traces of the virus.

>> a group of lawmakers are urging president biden to take further action at the southern border. they say it is past time to work with both parties toward a common goal. washington correspondent basil john reports on why they're asking the president to use all tools at his disposal, including executive action. >> this affects everybody. president biden is under pressure to take action on the southern border. 2 groups of representatives, including nevada, democratic congressman steven horsford wrote to the president to say it's time we have to address both the migrant and asylum issue and the fentanyl crisis, which is of great concern. horsford also requested the president provide a path to citizenship for those who have lived, worked and paid taxes to the u.s. near democratic congressman tom suozzi in pennsylvania, republican congressman brian fitzpatrick support the scaled down approach. work permits for spouses. it makes sense across the board. we need the

president to take executive action to address was a very real growing concern of the american people in the letter sent to the president, the group said they tried to pass bipartisan le islation in congress, but that apart. republicans are more concerned currying favor with donald trump than they are about solving the border security crisis. fitzpatrick says the fault lies with all of congress. the only way you can get to a situation where we are today is both parties have failed us on this issue and that is the case. but senate democratic leader chuck schumer disagrees ul and pins the blame on republicans. i've seen many cynical things around here over the years. >> but it's hard to think of something more cynical than republicans blowing up their own border deal in order to help donald trump win an election. lawmakers expect the president to have a response in the coming days reporting in washington. i'm basil, john. >> for many kids, summer is all about fun in the sun with friends and going to summer camp could be a huge part of

>> asians make up more than 37% of the population. why is it so important that we have a firefighting force that reflects its community? representation matters when people see themselves in the people that are helping in their worst day. >> they feel a sense of trust. when i go on calls, you filipino. we can have a conversation with somebody that speaks only to go for firefighter robert. a lot representation also means being a role model when a little kid sees somebody that looks like them. >> well, i can do that. >> in august, say led a mission to maui shortly after deadly wildfires torched the things that we complain about. >> its it's miniscule, you know, these people lost their homes, lost their livelihood, their living other cars. it was eye-opening. the team assisting local fire crews to stamp out a grass fire near a relief center distributing relief supplies to families in

need in times of disaster. when people see that there's a bigger response that. if the firefighters coming over really helps people understand that there's love and support for them beyond there, their local community, the department plans to make another trip back this year. you know, it takes hard to be a firefighter. you give of yourself to your colleagues to your community. what are you proudest of when it comes to being an asian firefighter in san francisco? what we're doing? we're accomplishing, you know, i see a bunch of chiefs now that that are asian and it's something that my son can see to for me being here. it gives my son. >> someone to look up to i love this out. it's very satisfying for, you know, you helped save a life. it's absolutely rewarding. and that's what keeps us going in san francisco. >> stephanie lit. kron. 4 news. >> tune into kron 4 every thursday this month for stories highlighting the bay area's api community all leading up to our special airing on thursday. may 23rd

at 06:30pm. >> alright, weather time here is we get a live look outside at the golden gate bridge on a thursday. the hustle and bustle as people are probably trying to get home to maybe kick it on the patio. if you did not take the moment to go outside and soak up a little bit of sun and warmth than you missed out there. and copy paste pretty close in most spots, a little bit hotter inland. >> maybe a little cooler out along the coastline. so some changes are in the works to what a beautiful day. if you hadn't had a chance to get outside. still a little time to get out there and enjoy the evening. maybe the barbecue outside. >> enjoy the beautiful weather. and boy, those toasty temperatures all around as we've had high pressure in those offshore winds combining to really crank up temperatures not only inland but all the way the coastline that sea breezes kicked in to see the flag waving their. we'll see more of that in the coming days. temperatures in most parts of bay area warmed up. the one exception half moon bay. that's a sign of things to come. cool down just

slightly. but otherwise we're to about 5 degrees warmer around the bay area again today. so these numbers topping out. yeah, what a day it was. 81 degrees downtown san francisco. 83 in oakland, 86 in san jose. 83 in livermore. 86 in concord, in 86 and santa rosa. all these numbers, of course, running well above the average for this time of year. mostly clear out there tonight, we may begin to see a hint of fog along the coastline. otherwise some mild temperatures tomorrow, sunny and even a little bit hotter inland. and then the fog is likely to make return along the coastline as we head toward tomorrow afternoon. so if you want to head out to the beach tomorrow, i would do it in the morning by the afternoon. the clouds likely to move on in this weekend. still staying warm in the interior valleys away from the coastline. but you're going to feel the effects that sea breeze is going to have on us in the coming days right now. yeah, you got that sea breeze along the coastline. 59 degrees in half moon bay. but still 68 san francisco. then you're talking 70's 80's around the rest, the bay area. so looking good out there right now. the offshore winds continuing, although beginning to break down a little bit high

pressure is going to slide in overhead. another warm day for most of the bay area. again. but the changes begin along the coastline. that's where see some of the cool fog. again, move in. see here on the forecast model to overnight tonight, mostly clear we may see a pattern to fog along the coastline the morning and then all of a sudden they're go starts to racing along the coastline, going to be a thin layer to begin with. but you know this works. that says the thicking up as we head in toward the days ahead and before long, everybody starts to cool down temperatures tomorrow. 60's and 70's in the san francisco. yes, 60's along the coastline and bile there. 75 degrees warmer. burning running down the peninsula. 82 in redwood city, lots of 80's, even some 90's in the santa clara valley tomorrow getting on the hot0 side, hot little more about 1990, also in pleasanton about 89 in concord. 87 in hercules 88 snowmen tomorrow on 91 in fairfield back toward the coastline, 60's and 70's in the north bay. you get the idea the next couple days. yeah, he's still on. even though we start to cool down, hot in some of the interior valleys cooling down over the weekend. much cooler along the coastline, returning with a low clouds and the fog. >> how long are we going be
