>> now at 11 terrifying scenes across the midwest is powerful tornadoes tear across communities leaving trails of destruction. good evening. thanks for joining me here on kron. 4 news at 11. i'm noelle bellow, iowa and nebraska are getting the brunt of these severe storms. this massive tornado was caught on camera earlier today. ripping through lincoln, nebraska, the winds so powerful trucks were flipped over. trains knocked off the tracks. homes and businesses flattened. samantha cortez, he has more on the devastation and the midwest. >> and ominous and frightening force of nature. meteorologist reporting a prolific amount of tornadoes touched down in nebraska and iowa friday. oh, my god. we'll get back people. these people, the national weather service issued more than 40 tornado warnings in

the populated nebraska cities of lincoln and omaha as well as the state line in >> sirens warned people to take cover the destruction created miles of a disaster zone, including through brent richardson's neighborhood in omaha, literally. >> saw this big tornado coming and just had to duck for cover the kids and wife best we could. lot of freight train you've ever heard your life. come right to your house. you said big tornado. i mean, we're not talking we're not talking to fund a horror talking it looks like it was a mile mile and half white is what it looked like. >> a train in waverly, nebraska thrown off the tracks and 4 miles away. a plastic molding facility leveled. several people became trapped inside, but authorities said they were thankful no one was hurt. many sharing their shock and disbelief. >> he's at reopening. just missed us. >> chaos. like a movie scene. it's so unreal. it's nothing i've ever witnessed in my life. that was samantha

cortez, the reporting for us tonight. of course, chief meteorologist lawrence karnow here. he's been tracking the storms as well. it's pretty while we're headed toward the peak of tornado season. right now we get the middle of may and that is the peak. but yeah, it's a scary night out there tonight. i think we'll see this again. >> tomorrow we've had reports of some 60 plus tornadoes across 5 states across the country's midsection. you see that big swirl in the atmosphere. that's area of low pressure out of front of it. you can see the front been making its way through nebraska, pushing into iowa mile into missouri as well. so we've got a lot of activity out there tonight. you see all the circles out there. those reports of hail and tornadoes all across that area. some of those touching down doing some damage as well. and we're not done with us just yet. the rain line moving further south tonight. and so we're looking at the possibility, some flooding. you see that all the way down in tulsa, the chance of some flooding there. flood advisories watches are up across that area going likely return as we head toward tomorrow. here's the latest forecast for severe weather as we get toward tomorrow. you

can see that line just pushing a little further to the east. the bull's eye again, get near omaha. my goodness. again, another rough day. there are those storms rolling on through. so all the forecast models pointing some of that rain and boy by the afternoon tomorrow you get that afternoon heating the atmosphere, the storms likely to bob blossom tomorrow afternoon with the potential for more severe weather and more tornadoes. noel, back to you. >> thanks, lawrence. happening now at your weekend, plans could be affected by roadwork in the east bay. a stretch of 6, 80 southbound in pleasanton area is now closed until monday morning. kron four's dan thorn reporting the work happening right now. >> a lot of work happening this weekend along 6.80, southbound about a nine-mile stretch between pleasanton and seminole is going to be seeing some road repairs. and caltrans says if you're going to be traveling through the area this weekend, be prepared for traffic and detours. >> 6.80, southbound from the 5.80, connector down to coop in road is now closed through early monday morning. caltrans

says crews will be replacing deteriorating roadway with new pavement and they're hoping to get a lot done. and just a short amount of time over the weekend. >> we're going to do all this work and what this is the benefit of this weekend work is that we're reducing about 40 nights of work into just 3 days. but the work also means slow driving and detours signs will be posted along the freeway. >> and the highway patrol will be helping to keep traffic moving along. the detour is listed by caltrans pushes most affected drivers heading south to 8.80. you can take 24 or 5.80 and continue along. but if you're coming from farther east past livermore, you can take 84 and reconnect. and a 6 ad caltrans says travelers through this area should give themselves extra time as everyone tries to get around. asking folks to get into please pack their we understand that. obviously

this is >> never a good time to close. a major highway for the work is definitely needed. >> the goal is to have all this work wrapped up by 04:00am on monday. again, this is only affecting the southbound lanes of 6 ad, but caltrans says the work begins next month on the northbound lanes along 6.80, southbound. dan thorn kron. 4 news. >> there will be no bart service this weekend between rockridge station in oakland and the lafayette station. the transit agency says it's upgrading one of its tracks and is going to provide free buses for bart riders. instead as a result of this closure. bart, does say to expect about a 20 minute delay? meantime, the sausalito ferry is going to remain closed again this weekend. last friday, an inspection found one of the piers was damaged. a ferry spokesperson said they can only work during low tide. so repairs may take some time. golden gate ferry is hoping to have that sausalito service back up and running by sometime next week. while

repairs are being made, a transit bus is taking passengers across the golden gate bridge. tonight, we're learning 2 of the 4 victims killed in a fiery crash in pleasanton. we're under the age of 15. that crash happened wednesday night. this is video of the day after in the area of foothill road, just south of stone ridge drive. happened right where the roads, which is from 2 lanes to one, it appears the car swerved off the road, crashed into a light pole and then hit a tree. investigators say speed may have been a factor in this crash. a family in richmond is remembering the life of a little boy whose life was cut short in a dui crash. his family says on the alvarez junior was traveling with 4 other people last wednesday when a drunk driver crashed into their car. police say they've arrested the driver responsible. they've arrested the driver responsible members of the oakland mayor sheng taos advisory council on human trafficking have been making the rounds at high schools this week. all to get the word

out as part of the sexually exploited minors awareness week. kron four's dan kerman reports. friday students taking part in a resource fair. oakland's reds stale high school were not only getting college and career advice but learning how to avoid being caught up in teen trafficking. we are seeing lots and lots of cases. >> of child trafficking and even more so as children are on the internet and social media now more than ever post pandemic nola brantley is a survivor and a member of the mayor's advisory council on human trafficking. >> she says kids as young as 12 are being manipulated or forced into having in return for money or gifts. >> are you, too, are part of the foster care and cuba, not just the systems are more impacted by by other the other youth because the lack of supervision and care they receive. brantly says members of mayor tells advisory council. >> we're not only talking to teens about resources available to those who are

being victimized, but also giving them insight and potential predators looking out for those offers that gets that money in a better life. those things that sound. >> too good to be true. adults that are showing a lot of interest in and that really are aiming to get close to that. and they don't really understand brantley hopes these face-to-face interactions we'll getn victims, the help they need. you deserve love and protection. help is available. please reach out. dan kerman kron. 4 news. >> the man who attacked a san jose mayor matt mahan assigned police officer appeared in court today. his attorney arguing he does not have a violent past and was trying to get away from the officer. wesley pollard has been charged with battery, disturbing the peace and threatening a police officer on tuesday. kron 4 was interviewing the mayor when pollard grew hostile towards the mayor and his staff. police officer stepped in trying to de-escalate the situation. but pollard ended up hitting him in the head.

now the naacp is asking for an investigation into that police officer. they believe pollard was profiled by him. hands office says they stand by the officers decisions. pollard's next day in court is set for july. earlier today, the oakland police department honored the life of police officer jordan wingate who passed away over the weekend. a public memorial service was held this morning at 3 cross church in castro valley. when gates casket was met with officers from all across the bay area, he was named rookie of the year by the oakland police officers association in 2018 that same year he was seriously injured in a crash while on duty. he then spent 6 years on life support in hospital until he died last saturday. wingate was 28 years old. >> a son, a brother, a family member, a friend, a talented police officer with a bright future with so much for college and so much more to humanity. those that new

george described as dedicated, hard-working, respectful and fighting practical joker. just became a patrol officer with opd. when gets the 55th oakland police officer killed in the line of duty. >> coming up tonight, congressman and senate candidate adam schiff says a san francisco car break-in left without the proper attire for a special event. plus, rising from the ashes of beloved barbecue joint reopening at new location in oakland following a series of unfortunate events and another oakland donut shop robbed in broad daylight. reaction from the owner after the break.

>> dick's donuts has been in business for about 20 years. we did reach out to oakland police about this but did not get a response. multiple bay area. law enforcement agencies recovered more than $300,000 worth of stolen goods in oakland, california. highway patrol says they found products from stores like walmart, tj maxx and sunglass hut in this suspected fencing operation. the investigation began last september in san mateo county when sheriff's deputies arrested several people linked to a retail theft in the area. just 2 months later, san ramon police link 2 women to the retail theft ring after they were arrested again for stealing from a local. so for a. >> they could from the pandemic. seriously. >> i know it's been a major concern from our community and it's something that we take very seriously. and we definitely want to help alleviate some of the criminal element within our community. >> the 3 agencies then obtained search warrants for 2 oakland homes and a storage container where they found all of these items. one arrest was

made last week. chp is organized. retail theft task force helped return many of the stolen items back to the stores they were taken from. >> senate candidate adam schiff has had his car broken into while visiting san francisco. >> although car break-ins are not rare in the city, police are saying now they're happening less frequently. kron four's lezla gooden reports. adam ship is currently running to fill the late senator dianne feinstein, spsenate seat. >> and was in san francisco making several appearances. he was dining at the thing restaurant when his luggage was stolen while his car was parked and a downtown parking garage, his luggage allegedly in view on facebook. the democratic congressman posted this picture at the restaurant and a hiking best, which is a more casual look than what he's typically seen. it. we reached out to the san francisco police department about the theft and they tell us there's no report related to this incident, according to sfpd crime data vehicle,

to some impressive totals. in point we're already above average for the year. now we've had some more rain again. tonight looks like a few more clouds passing by and some gusty winds in spots till tomorrow, more breezy than gusty. i think as we head toward the afternoon and set a 30 40 plus mile an hour gusts. we're talking 20, maybe 30 mile an hour winds late in the day. so pretty good sea breeze. but mostly sunny skies throughout the weekend, but just exception of a couple patches of fog. rainfall totals, not bad. almost a 10th of an inch of rain from this last system in pacifica, san francisco for hundreds, 3, 100's in concord and san leandro. ben lowman had 600's in the santa cruz mountains and well enough to get the ground. what san jose, but no measurable rain reported there. we definitely felt the winds, though we had winds gusting to 40 miles per hour in downtown san francisco. fact, a 47 mile an hour winds reported in the sunset. 44 in oakland, 40 in hayward. 31 in san jose. 37 in the battle. in 35 mile an hour gusts reported in petaluma. so the winds backing off just a little bit.

more engine some red and purple there. that will be some gusty winds. but temperatures tomorrow. let's plan on those numbers staying down a bit along the coastline. 50's there 60's inside the bay 50's coast side, though, breezy and toward the coastline. but but work your way down the peninsula. looks like some nice weather ahead. we'll see some sunshine, some nice temperatures to 60's. even some 70's as we head inland next couple those temperatures warming up a bit as we head toward next week, backed by about the wednesday and thursday we could be hit 80 degrees in some of the valley. so some nice weather coming
