financial aid to israel. >> kron four's rob nesbitt reports. this is what memorial plaza at stanford university where they have a camp site set up here. you can see about 25 to 30 tents behind me. they have signs, food and music. it looks like they're here for the long haul calling for a cease-fire in gaza. >> the mood was relaxed with music friday afternoon inside what's being called the people's university for gaza around. 25 tents set up by students at stanford university to protest the war in gaza. they don't have >> you could make that happen. they have left. >> the tense formed after hundreds gathered for a rally at the university thursday afternoon. one of the organizers, young soo kim says demonstrators are asking the university to disclose any investments that 8 israel in the war. basically asking us make specific targeted cost for divestment without.

campus security guards around the 10 site here at white memorial plaza. they are not interacting with demonstrators. only monitoring the situation reporting in stanford university. harbaugh been has been kron. 4 news. >> a costco in concord is back open after was evacuated because of a refrigerant leak. refrigerant is a fluid houston air-conditioning systems and heat pumps. fire officials say employees of the store on monument boulevard in detroit avenue became aware of the leak. one, somebody spotted a white cloud moving through the store. nobody was hurt depending on exposure. injuries from a leak can be mild to severe. >> new details tonight on a fiery crash in pleasanton that left a family of 4 dead. police say the 2 children killed were under the age of 15. they also say speed may have been a factor in this crash. it happened thursday night at the area where foothill road switches from 2 lanes to one just south of stoneridge drive. police say the car veered off the road slammed into a light pole and

then barreled into an oak tree. officers say they don't believe alcohol or foul play were factors in the crash. while visiting san francisco, southern california congressman adam schiff had his car broken into just before attending a fundraising dinner for his senate campaign kron. 4 is a news reporter lezla gooden joining us live in studio now with what we know so far, less luck. that's right. congressman adam schiff is one of the latest victims to have his luggage stolen from his car while in the city. >> now, though, he's not the first to have this happen to him. auto thefts appear to be decreasing in the city. adams schiff is currently running to fill the late senator dianne feinstein, senate seat. >> and was in san francisco making several appearances. he was dining at the thing restaurant when his luggage was stolen while his car was parked and a downtown parking garage, his luggage allegedly in view on facebook. the democratic congressman posted this picture at the restaurant

area tonight. >> this is the 4th closure of the southbound lanes of 6.80. will be closed around the 5, 86, 80 connector in pleasanton and koopman road. caltrans says that closing tonight at 9 o'clock. it will reopen monday morning at 4. so all weekend long, caltrans says expect delays and detours this weekend. the second big closure is part of westbound highway. 37 between vallejo and sears point. they're also closing tonight at 9 o'clock reopening monday morning at 4 in the next weekend, the eastbound lanes of highway 37 will be closed for repairs. 4 zone forecast with a live look outside at 6.80, on a friday night. ice cream hills. little bit of traffic out there, though. folks are trying to go somewhere for the nice weekend, lawrence. yeah, the hustle home out there right now as folks get ready for a weekend. looks like the weather. >> it's going to turn out very nice for most of the bay area this weekend. a little cool breezy along the coastline. other than that, you see a lot blue skies around the bay area. looking good out there right now. the skies a part of the bit. the winds, though,

have kicked up around the bay area. some of those gusts over 40 miles per hour outside this afternoon, looking out toward the transamerica building just a patch of fog floating on by. otherwise you've got plenty of blue skies and that wind still whipping up. but we did have some rain overnight. in fact, pacifica had almost a 10th of an inch of rain is can believe that temperatures go 40300's in concord and san leandro. ben lowman little bit more in the santa cruz mountains. 607 inch of rain. some say got a little wet but no measure precipitation in southern california. but that just adds to above normal totals we've had so far this year. the winds continue to kick up outside, though. you see some 2030 mile an hour gusts now. so if you're headed out the door to expect these to be a bit on the windy side, specially approaching the coastline and some of the mountain gaps that cold front that went pushed eastward. now, still a lot of thunderstorms out there, especially in the foothills of the sierra nevada. but we're starting to clear things out here in the bay area. that trend will continue into the weekend. we'll have more on that weekend forecast coming up in just a few minutes. thank you, lawrence. beloved east bay restaurant horn

barbecue is officially back open today after that devastating fire. >> people as you can see lined up outside of maddie's old-fashioned on 8th street in oakland to get a taste. chef matt horn preparing a menu of brisket wings and beef sandwiches. all the trimmings barbecue fans coming from all over the bay area to celebrate for most, tt was their first chance to chow down on the james beard. recognize grub since last fall. that's when a fire at the old location west oakland force him to shut down. >> the fire took a lot out of us. you know, i mean, those are flash and location actually celebrating our 3 years. there and then be able to open back up the bill to serve barbecue. what it's about for still bringing about family and li feel. from the old play couple. share it here to the new just be a great heart. you know, the community makes me emotional, man. i'm just grateful people showing up supporting us. >> well, when you have good food, those show up a couple things did survive the fire, including the restaurant's michelin bib gourmand award and that american flag that

>> the man accused of fighting with san jose mayor matt mahan security detail made his first court appearance today. our cameras were there in downtown san jose when that fight broke out last for several minutes and sent the police officer to the hospital kron four's jack moment was the reporter who caught all of that on camera. he was in the courtroom today and has been following this story since earlier this week. jack, what's the latest? >> well, folks, his name is wesley pollard, and that is the man who is seen in video that you just showed us that lasted for several minutes. and that video really spread through social media like wildfire. now he was released today will on certain conditions by judge who at first was seemingly siding with the state wanting to keep pollard in jail before his next court appearance. but that obviously changed. now, pollard is out with those conditions that some of those conditions include staying 300 yards away from city hall, 300 yards away from san jose mayor

matt mahan and bats than jose police officer that was being secured for matt mahan at the time. paul are also be subject to random searches by san jose. police now call it is charged with battery. disturbing the peace and a felony charge of threatening an officer in court today. the judge said that since pollard had a warrant for his arrest in the state of georgia. and according to the police report, did not listen to the officers efforts to keep him away. the judge said, quote, in the beginning i am not inclined to release and quote, the attorney for public, though, requested that the judge look at the kron. 4 video of the full arrest before issuing his ruling. >> the attorney argued that part of pollard was actually trying to get away and not escalate the fight. the judge looked at that video and ended up changing his outlook on this. he granted pollard to be released with several conditions. like i said, those 300 yards away from at man, the police officer and city hall. his next court hearing is july 11th. now pollard was expected to be released today in the evening. now i did talk a little bit about him having to stay away from city hall. i

spoke with some people in city hall who tell me that they do recognize pollard and that they say he actually has threatened them before. those claims, of course, for we're live in front of downtown san jose at city hall will toss it back to you guys. >> jack, it is. it is kind of confusing. you would think that looking at the video, the judge would kind of continue with their thought that they would want to keep him in custody. was there something specific in that video were you surprised when he said that or i'm a little surprised? to be honest. i was a little bit surprised to seeing that he would release and knowing that this case have got a lot of attention >> practically across the country, there wasn't anything the judge specifically said that changed his stance on things. but what thecdefense attorneys are really trying to argue from their point of view was that pollard was trying to actively got a way of, of course, that security detail for matt may have. the mayor of san jose was san jose police officer a couple times in the video could hear him

say you are under arrest. i'm trying to place that arrest trying to detain pollard at that time. so at that so far what we've got that. but i can't specifically pinpoint what specifically may have changed the judge's mind there and trying to get away after hitting a police officer. it's very he's back in court when jack. >> it will be back in court july. 11th sometime in the afternoon. but for now, like we've been reporting, here he is. he is set to be released all right, jack moment for us live from san jose. thank you. >> members of oakland, mayor sheng taos advisory council on human trafficking of been making the rounds at high schools this week. they're getting the word out as part of sexually exploited minors awareness week. kron four's dan kerman reports. >> recommended that kids because it we're really encouraging them to trust their instincts to be aware, air her to stay connected to friends and family and most of all, to educate themselves. >> friday, students taking part in a resource fair.

oakland's reds stale high school were not only getting college and career advice but learning how to avoid being caught up in teen trafficking. we are seeing lots and lots of cases. >> of child trafficking and even more so as children are on the internet and social media now more than ever post pandemic. >> nola brantley is a survivor and a member of the mayor's advisory council on human trafficking. she says kids as young as 12 are being manipulated or forced into having in return for money or gifts. >> are you, too, are part of the foster care and cuba, not just the systems are more impacted by by other the other youth because the lack of supervision and care they receive. brantly says members of mayor tells advisory council. >> we're not only talking to teens about resources available to those who are being victimized, but also giving them insight and potential predators looking out for those offers of gifts that money in a better life. those things that sound. >> too good to be true. adults

that are showing a lot of interest in that and that really are aiming to get close to that. and they don't really understand brantley hopes these face-to-face interactions we'll get victims, the help they need. you deserve love and protection. help is available. please reach out. dan kerman kron. 4 news. >> oakland residents gathering outside the county administration building this morning for a rally against a special election recall for district attorney pamela price. the group, asian americans for progressive, alameda showing support for the da calling the election a waste of hard earned tax money. a recall could cost the county around 20 million dollars according to the alameda county registrar of voters. meantime, the group asking for this recall is hoping county supervisors will set an election date during next tuesday's meeting. now

that enough signatures have been verified. take a good look at your screen here. police are asking for your help in finding this person. they say they're linked to arson. police say it happened on april 10th about one 30 in the afternoon at a property on rifle range road. police say this person of interest is often wearing a distinct cloak or robot garment. the witness who says they saw this person start a fire says they had a mongolian style horse bow at the time and went to the sf archers archery range several times over the past month. anyone with information on who this person is is asked to call pacifica police tonight. fire crews are trying to figure out what caused a large apartment fire in san francisco. it happened about 4.30, this morning near the intersection of lying and clay streets in the >> cities, presidio heights, neighborhood. building was in the process being renovated. nobody was home at the time and there were no injuries reported.

>> the cdc has confirmed the first h i v transmissions linked to some popular cosmetic procedures. so far cdc says 3 women have tested positive for hiv after receiving so-called vampire facials at a new mexico spa. it involves taking a sample of your blood extracting the plasma and then injecting it with needles back into your face. cdc says the albuquerque business was not license and was not using proper safety measures. investigators ultimately determined as many as 59 clients at the vip spa. they have been exposed to hiv through botox injections or damp, higher facials on the peninsula. san mateo county sheriff's deputies are getting training for helping people with autism the deputies will learn from an on what to do in. >> both the crisis in everyday situations. this is because autism can be more difficult to recognize that training and experience. sheriff's office says that will help staff better serve the community

with better outcomes. let's get a check of your 4 zone forecast now taking a live at the san mateo bridge. it is a windy out there. you see in the camera shake again, the white caps on the bay, lawrence. yeah, whitecaps all around as we've seen very gusty winds, 30. >> and 40 mile an hour gusts around the bay area today and they continue tonight. so be careful out there on the roads, especially in a high-profile vehicle like a truck and watch out for that as winds get pretty strong, especially out of those open winds whipping out toward the sfo as well and have some delays there now because the winds, but just because construction going on there at this time. but patchy fog make its way over san bruno mountain, too. but that onshore flow kicking in behind that front that moved through, brought some showers overnight. continue out there right now. showers have come to an end. but those winds still blowing around the bay area. still see some showers in the state, though. and you can see the act of spot really in the central part of california in the foothills of the sierra nevada as numerous storms continuing to pop up there. thunderstorms kind of rolling on in the atmosphere

kind of a rough thing this afternoon. but should begin to settle down as the sun sets hptonight. still some snow over the hike up peaks is well tonight. if you're stepping out the door, yeah, grab a light jacket, maybe windbreaker. it is blustery out there, especially as you approach the coastline. see the skies parting star light shining in between some of the clouds and it really should be a nice night out around the bay or just a bit on the cool side. and then becoming mostly clear as we head toward 9 o'clock tonight. here's the good news. we're setting things up for the weekend. high pressure starting to build in its going kind of flat ridge. so we're going to warm things up. the good news is the track will head to the north. that means we're going to dry things out and bring in lots of sunshine around the bay area. looks like some nice weather ahead as we head toward tomorrow afternoon, temperatures are going to be mild to warm outside fact temperatures go. it will be breezy 63 degrees. you'll find some sunshine. oakland checking is 66 degrees and san jose. we may see those temperatures up in the low 70's. so looks like a nice start to the weekend. the sunday, probably a little bit warmer news we've been looking

measure now heads to the citywide ballot through the san francisco board of supervisors. >> and california students have less than a week left to apply for financial aid. the priority deadline was extended to may. second students whose pfaff says that were rejected or are seeking more resources can be eligible for up to $7300 in pell grants. the deadline to apply for federal aid. federal aid is june 30th. coming up, inflation is still going up and americans are feeling it in their wallets. experts explain what's causing inflation to stay high.

>> today's new inflation numbers show the cost of many essentials remains high for consumers. the government says prices rose at an annual rate of 2.7% last month pointing to gas car insurance and health care prices for keeping overall inflation elevated health care costs, which make up about a 5th of the economy off and hurt consumers. the most federal reserve has tried to slow price increases with higher interest rates. but that will be likely until september at the earliest. >> the fed would like to begin reducing interest rates if they thought they had essentially permission from inflation to do so. but they do not. >> the numbers weren't all bad, though, for consumers. while the price of restaurant meals continues to rise, grocery prices are apparently staying steady. >> still ahead on kron, 4 news at 6, the city of oakland remembering the life of a police officer who died after a crash while in the line of
