been filed after a man ends up in a coma after allegedly being tased by east bay officers. plus, caught on camera east bay business burglarized right in the middle of the day by someone who this donut shop says was a regular customer. >> station. he's calling for news 2. >> thank you for joining us here this friday on kron for news. the 2, i'm justine waldman today, the oakland police department laid to rest one of their own officer. jordan wingate died last saturday from injuries suffered while on duty in 2018. the 29 year-old spent more than 5 years fighting for his life. kron 4 charles clifford is live for us now outside of the church in castro valley with more on the moving service that happened oday. thanks for joining us. >> well, good i'm outside the 3 crosses church here in castro valley. the funeral service just wrapping up. folks are leaving the parking lot officer jordan wingate.

his casket has also left. let's going take a look at some video now. wingate, as you mentioned, was severely injured in a car crash back in august of 2018 when he was responding to a call. 6 years later, he passed away this past weekend as a result of injuries from that accident. now his casket arrived here in castro valley just before 11 o'clock today was greeted by the hundreds of officers from all around the bay area. there are also dozens of family members and friends in attendance as well. the service which lasted about 2 hours or so have multiple speakers, which he was remembered as an excellent officer and a good man. >> a son, a brother, a family member, a friend, a talented police officer with bright future so much for college and so much more to humanity. new george described dedicated, hard-working, respectful and fighting practical joker. just like that. yeah. huge part in

a way that you feel like you're is best friend. >> all jordan, when gates father, what is also here today, he is officer retired oakland police department captain randal wingate. now jordan was the 55th oakland police officer to be killed in the line of duty. but for now in the east bay, charles clifford kron, 4 charles, thank you so much. and if you'd like to watch replay of that. >> memorial service for officer jordan wingate. we have that for you. you can go to kron on tonight at 8 o'clock to watch the play. new to a lawsuit has been filed after a man was tased by east bay regional park police officer. and now that man is on life support earlier this month, deontay face and then his friend were eating food in his car at martin luther king junior regional shoreline park. they say that they were approached by park police officers because dante's tags were expired. and during that stop, officers say he attempted to run away and

ended up going into the water of a nearby estuary officers then deployed a taser into his back and his lawyer is now saying that he struggled for nearly a half an hour in the water while the officers stood around and watched until he became unconscious and he's been in a coma ever since and is currently on life support. his family has filed a lawsuit against the park district and the county lawyers for the family have released a statement. i'll read part of it here now that the experience with the alameda county officials there saying is reckless regard for human life and it best a disastrous result of negligence and intentional assault and battery. dante and his family, the citizens of alameda county, they deserve better and should not have to worry that their trip to a local park well and was someone on their death bed? we've reached out to get comment from park police and the county will let you know when we hear back. we are learning some new details about a fiery crash in pleasanton that killed a family of 4. police say the 2

children killed were under the age of 15. they also say that speed may have been a factor in this crash. some flowers have been left in the area where that car crashed on wednesday night. this is near where foothill road switches from 2 lanes to one just south of stone ridge drive. police say it appears that the driver lost control of the car and crashed into that large oak tree. officers say there's no indication alcohol or foul play factors in this crash there waking to notify family before they released the names of the victims. southern california congressman adam schiff had his car broken into in san francisco just before you attended a fundraising dinner for his senate campaign. thieves broke into his car on thursday. when is parked in a downtown parking garage. that's according to the san francisco chronicle and the thieves stole his bags. but without a business suit to wear shift still went to an event in burlingame. he did have to wear a t-shirt and a hike. invest well. other

people there. this fundraiser were dressed in suits. schiff is facing republican steve garvey in the november general election for the open u.s. senate seat in california. we did reach out to the shift campaign about this and they confirmed the newspaper story. we did also reach out to san francisco police and we're told that there is no police report related to this incident. do recognize this person right here because pacific are looking for this man. they say was seen starting a fire at the civic u.s. fairway park on april 10th. they say the man has visited the archery range. they're at park several times over the past month that this person looks familiar. you should contact pacifica police. and now to a frightening sight in san francisco's presidio heights neighborhood from this morning when a large fire burning apartment building can see the flames here and wait to see the response. 60 firefighters responded after flames sparked at this 4 story building near the intersection of lying and

clay streets. thick black smoke shooting sky high, leading firefighters to tell people nearby to stay inside and close their windows. the building made out of redwood and did not collapse. no one was inside because it's being renovated. hence the scaffolding outside. we understand no one was hurt and the cause of the fire is under investigation. now to a crime caught on camera, a local business burglarized in the middle of the day. the owner says the thief a familiar customer at this donut shop. and now everyone there is upset and confused about why that person would do such a thing to a place. he goes to all the time. kron four's terisa stasio has more. >> hello, everyone. today. i am say can. angry man. >> that is so of an inch. and she and her husband own decks. donut on high street in oakland and this is what happened thursday. she says one of their regular customers waited for a pause in the normal hectic rush and came back into the store, crashed

>> task force team executed a search warrant yesterday in connection to an illegal possession and sale of multiple guns. the seizure seizure happened on crosby avenue oakland and that is where police say they found 9 guns, including for illegal assault weapons and a stockpile of ammunition. police say they arrested a man on charges related to this investigation. and there is now a hotline in alameda county for the victims of cases that are being reviewed by the district attorney district attorney pamela price says her office uncovered what may be a pattern of misconduct. and 35 cases dating back almost 30 years. prosecutors may have excluded black and jewish people from juries on purpose, price as family members of the victims by those on death row are now being informed about what's going on. but anyone who has not been contacted is asked to reach out to them directly to to the alameda county district attorney's office. and we have a link on how to do that on our website. kron 4 dot com.

all right. we're taking a live look outside here at the embarcadero in san francisco. nice see skies here in this shot. also, my see get along with us here on this friday. so that some welcome sign. it's been so gray the past couple days. we're going see some sun. yes, the sun and also when does so. it is pretty chilly out. there is stepped out >> just checking temperatures before the show. we have a little chill in san francisco, but it is very pleasant. you just need a jacket. so mix of sun and clouds out there this weekend, though, is going to be very pleasant. we have sunshine in the forecast. so we had rain. we're and settle the last 2 days. but that will be changing very soon. you may notice some drizzle, though, the sierra, though, if you're heading out to the mountains, you could run into some thunder storms this evening and afternoon. but for us just pretty quiet. just some spotty up clouds and maybe chisel temperatures are quite mild. we're in the upper 50's along the coast as 60's as you make your way to oakland and hayward. 65 in santa rosa. 67 in san jose. so we don't have

70's just yet, but that could change starting tomorrow. we are about 22 degrees up and down here. 4 degrees down in santa rosa. livermore is starting to warm up. so that will be the case this weekend. but notice how clear we are on our future cast model. this is 4 o'clock because we have a strong onshore flow and then 06:00pm mostly clear skies. but mind you, it is pretty chilly out there because of that wind. so 09:00pm is also mostly clear. and then saturday, we look mostly sunny with the exception of a few clouds over by the coast sunday, we could see some partly cloudy skies. but overall this weekend look very lovely with plenty of sunshine. but the winds we will be dealing with the winds from now. and so at least monday, we're talking 2030, miles an hour gusts here is this evening, especially especially by the coast. so all of us will feel the winds tonight will bring that jacket if you're heading out. and here is that 7 day outlook. we have low 70's starting inland this weekend and then we gradually warm up starting monday with the mid to upper

70's and then the bay you'll see upper 60's the coast, upper 50's or seasonable averages here. so i don't see rain in the long range just yet, but we will be following that because we are still in spring. but other than that, a very nice weekend with sunshine. back to you. love it. thank you. all right. now to the latest on the war that has sparked a lot of unrest. it appears now that israel is preparing for a ground invasion of rafah. israel's war cabinet meeting today to talk about it as well as hostage negotiations. >> reporter robert sherman has the latest from tel aviv. despite the fact that it's been over 200 days since that october 7th attack, the hope on the ground here in israel. >> that a hostage release deal can be brokered has not been extinguished, especially with reports swirling. the talks may be starting to pick up again with local outlets on the ground here in israel reporting that the israeli leadership is considering brokering a deal with hamas that would lead to the release of less than 40 hostages. if

true, that would be the lowest number that we've seen potentially put on the table to date. but all this coming as you've seen pressure on the ground here in israel with hostage families gathering in tel aviv this week amid the news that 18 countries, including the united states, issued a joint demand for the hostages to be released. that includes the family of american israeli hersh goldberg-polin who appeared in a hamas propaganda video this week, 203 days later, his parents still wanting holding on to hope he'll come home. we are hopeful and prayerful that this is the beginning of a galvanizing force of these countries. we're going to continue going forward and shout and allowed unified way. >> that they are not stopping until all of these hostages come home. there are debates on the ground here in israel as to what kind of the deal is acceptable. many hostage families. >> are on the record saying that they want israel to cut any deal. they can cut and

>> today's new inflation numbers show the cost any essential to remain high for consumers. the government says prices rose annual rate of 2.7% last month pointing to gas card. sure. and some health care prices for keeping overall inflation elevated health care costs, which make up about a 5th of the economy, often hurt consumers. the most the federal reserve has tried to slow price increases with higher interest rates. but that won't be likely until september at the earliest. >> the fed would like to begin reducing interest rates if they thought they had essentially permission from inflation to do so. but they do not. >> the numbers weren't so bad for every consumer. while the price of restaurant meals continues to go up, grocery prices staying pretty steady. southwest airlines pulling service from airports in 4 cities. the airline is blaming it on delays, getting planes from boeing. so southwest will be stopping service to and from houston bellingham,

washington, syracuse, new york, and cozumel, mexico. and this will happen on august. 4th. southwest is also thinking about getting rid of open single class seating on its aircrafts. in a recent interview, the ceo bob jordan said the company was weighing options for cabin reconfiguration to address its recent revenue shortfall. right now, jordan says the airline has not made any decisions on starting the strategy but said studies on what they could do has yielded some interesting results. up next here, some people living in the east bay say they're sad to see their walmart location close next month. plus, it's the final day of the first week of the hush money trial against donald trump. >> we'll get the latest from inside that new york city courtroom. but for san francisco's new 9-1-1, dispatch center has experienced a computer outage just one day after its grand just one day after its grand opening. so we' you can't leave without cuddles. but, you also can't leave covered in hair.

area, law enforcement agencies recovered more than $300,000 worth of stolen goods in oakland. >> kron 4 to call met with one of the several east bay police departments that helps make this bust. >> the caaifornia highway patrol says its investigators found $326,000 worth of products from stores like walmart, tj maxx and sunglass hut in this suspected fencing operation at 3 locations in oakland. fencing means the illegal resale of stolen goods. very lot of hard and >> team collaboration from other agencies was also attributed to the discovery of

this operation. the investigation began last september in san mateo county when sheriff's deputies arrested several people linked to retail theft in the area. >> just months later, san ramon, police sergeant sar of all the says his department linked to women to that retail theft ring after they were arrested again for stealing from a local store for our taking this crime epidemic. seriously. >> i know that's been major concern from our community. and it's something that we take very seriously. and we definitely want to help alleviate some of the criminal element within our communities. the 3 agencies obtain search warrants for 2 oakland homes in a storage container where they found the items. >> and made one arrest last week. and the chp, organized retail theft task force. >> helped return many of the stolen goods back to the retail victims in san ramon, philippe djegal, all kron. 4 news. stanford students protesting the war in gaza on campus are now facing the possibility of suspension. the

university president. >> richard saller sending out a letter to students today saying that overnight camping as a form of protest violate university policy. he says that the pro-palestinian protesters set up tents on the lawn of white plaza to sleep there overnight. and this type of protesting has been happening at universities all across the west, including columbia and yale. students involved say they understand the risks of protesting, but they still think it's important to rally for this cause. >> there were to get arrested or say where to be from the school. now deeply impact me and my family. support them with the money they get from here. >> and understanding the ai wei, the personal consequences and my own personal beliefs about compelled to do it. i can to be >> before the protests, the university president says that students sent an invitation to the community to join in. he has people who are not involved with the university and participated could face criminal charges. a

pro-palestinian encampment has been set up on the ucla campus. the demonstrators they're calling for ceasefire in gaza amid the israel-hamas war, this encampment began yesterday morning with dozens of people putting up tents and barricades, jewish students on campus have expressed concern about what they're describing as being anti-semitic phrases being used by some of the protesters and also those anti-semitic phrases being written on signs, the jewish community federation is calling now on the u.s. government to take action as the organization says that these protests have led to threats and harassment of jewish students and faculty. in a statement the organization says part, we urge the united states congress to quickly consider and adopt the anti-semitism awareness act as the school year draws to a close and commencement activities begin

our campuses must be safe and welcoming for all students. those who seek disrupt and intimidate. let's be dealt with swiftly and decisively. a person has now died from their injuries after being shot earlier this month in san francisco. police say that this incident took place in the early morning hours of april 13th between 6 and jesse streets. that's in the soma neighborhood the victim was rushed to the hospital where they later died from their injuries. the identity of the victim has not yet been released. and police say no arrests have been made. so they're asking anyone with information to come forward. happening today in the south bay, the man accused of attacking the police officer protecting san jose mayor matt mahan is due to have his arraignment. this incident happened tuesday as a kron. 4 crew was in the middle of an interview with the mayor right downtown san jose. wesley pollard seen here punching that plainclothes officer assigned to protect the mayor. pollard has been charged with felony resisting an officer by means of threat or violence.

he's also charged with misdemeanor battery and disturbing the peace. san jose police say pollard also has an outstanding arrest warrant from georgia for resisting arrest and violence. and san francisco city workers are trying now to improve the computer system after it went down on thursday as kron four's. dan kerman reports that computer system is key, dispatching police or fire when they got a 9-1-1. call. one day after the ribbon was cut on san francisco's new 9-1-1, dispatch center. >> the computer system that integral to dispatching emergency service personnel went down. we had it what we call a cad outage where we had a failure, had our computer aided dispatch went san francisco's computer, aided dispatch system or cad allows those taking 9-1-1. calls to take incoming information into a computer which police and fire dispatchers in another part of the 9-1-1 center. can see and send help immediately

when the system went down at 05:00am. that automatic communication had to be done manually, meaning notes had to be written down and then physically handed to the appropriate dispatcher to send help and something like this happens. it's all hands on deck. so we bring people out of key. why we bring our supervisors on the floor. whoever needs you know, jump in. >> we have runners, you kiow, we it's a it's a building with a lot of people working in it. so when we have the scenario, we just bring in a few extra hands to make sure we have all the people we need. mary. ellen carroll is the executive director of san francisco's department of emergency management. >> she says dispatchers have trained for this. and as a result, there was no delay in answering incoming 9-1-1, calls or dispatching emergency personnel during the 2 and a half hour outage. >> we're really good at switching gears in order to handle this one happens. well, san francisco's 9-1-1, dispatch center is brand new. >> the cat is a decade old and well past its life expectancy

at the beginning of this year, a contract was executed for a new cad system. as for the new cad system, city officials hope to have it up and running in the next 2 to 3 years at san francisco city hall. dan kerman kron. 4 news. >> now to the east bay where a stray dog was rescued by antioch animal services after it got stuck and they can now look about love for pop there. they said a pair dogs have been running around the neighborhood of twin creeks near those apartments in antioch for about 2 weeks. a resident nearby was able to secure one of the dogs. the other, though, didn't want to be caught off and would start to run away and soon after the dog tracked him south by falling down into a can now and was wedge there in the framework of the bridge officials from the canal safety team provide animal services access to the canal and they were able to rescue him. and this year you might not get the sweetest strawberry. a separate state farmers are saying all that recent rain has caused some big losses. one farm reporting

it took 3 days to pump out all the water from his strawberry fields. adding a lot of the strawberries had to be thrown away. but farmers say the season could stretch further into the summer since more water is available. we'll talk about the forecast now with a quick live look outside see what's going on. you can kind of see the golden gate bridge back. they're going. >> check in on the clouds and fog. but get along here. first, though, check on and still a lot of snow there. yes, i actually i saw this a picture from half dome 70 re starting to see more snow coverage on the rocks there. but cloudy, a mix of sun and clouds in the bay area breezy. but if you're heading out to the high country, you may run into some showers tonight, a chance of some thunderstorms tonight as well. you can see south lake is seeing some showers, upper 30's, upper 40's in reno and some 50's as well over towards carson city. so just keep that in mind. other than that saturday sunday, looking nice. you just have to watch out for some slick roads and a chance of thunderstorms. so here's the future cast model. notice more

spare stunned to find out they're losing their walmart's. that retail giant announced a store in fremont is closing kron four's. dan thorn has the latest. >> for nearly 20 years this walmart, he's served customers on al brace street in fremont next month. it's closing for good. i am very shocked. that explosion >> india for so long, this kind unfortunate they're closing the store shoppers tell us this is been there. go to walmart since it first opened back in 2006. >> a sign at the store's entrance sharing the closing date next month as well as reduced hours. the company says this location is one of several nationwide that have not been making enough. money starts always been very busy. the reason that given again for not having enough revenue to keep the store open, his is is is questionable. a walmart spokesperson tells kron 4 the closure affects more than 150 employees. those workers are being encouraged to transfer to other bay area stores, including one. that's roughly 3 miles away. fremont shoppers

will now have to go to the city's osgood road location in come next month or travel. even farther to union city or milpitas. it's kind of disappointing a because this punt this place is like the closest to where is. >> the store's new hours are from 07:00am to 07:00pm. >> and this location officially closes on. may 24th in fremont. dan thorn kron. 4 news. >> now to a historic landmark that went up in flames. the pier in oceanside caught on fire yesterday. this is from san diego county. it sent a massive amount of smoke into the sky these images there. we understand that the fire started in the afternoon at a vacant restaurant at the end of the pier. that restaurant was formally ruby's diner, fire boats quickly arrived on the scene. they were shooting water canyons cannons at those flames. helicopters also helping from the sky. officials say that the iconic pier was saved because the city and the department were prepared.

>> we just rebuilt the facilities, utilities and the fire protection line on the pier. and that was a critical part of helping us save the spear because we had it pressurized water on the fire line all the way in various ports all the way down the pier. we were able to attach to that fight. the fire. >> damage to the structure still being assessed. the beach south of the pier is closed for now and the pair will remain closed during the investigation into what caused the fire. u.s.. secretary of state antony blinken met with chinese president xi jingping today amid heightened tensions between the 2 nations. blinken says he and the president spoke about issues including cooperation on trade and stopping fentanyl. blinken says he warned the chinese president about its continued support of russia, which he says could not continue its assault on ukraine without china's support. the 2 did not discuss tiktok as the chinese owner of that social media company must sell off within a year to keep the app running in the united states. former
