respects. kron 4 sarah stinson live there with the details. sarah. >> people continue to drop off flowers here on foothill road where a mom dad and their 2 kids died in a crash. i spoke with neighbors of the family who say they were heading home from a friend's house when the crash happened. >> sad and tragic kind of for it. see this hear this. >> a community grieving the loss of a family of 4 killed in a car crash wednesday night in pleasanton neighbors, family, friends and co-workers pulled over on foothill road thursday to drop flowers at the crash site sits very shocking. hassan shaikh says he worked with the dead of the family. great >> father came home worker and a great >> police say the crash happened around 9 at night. it appears the family's electric car hit a pole before striking

a tree and bursting into flames. the tree has fresh from marks on it and the road is covered in flame retardant phone. neighbors of the family say they want police have only released limited information saying they're thoroughly investigating the crash and there's no indication of alcohol or foul play involved with family crash, right where the road emerges from 2 lanes to one people who live nearby say driving on this stretch of road is dangerous. like no lights at all. it's really dark. >> and a lot of people speed here. at least one of the kids who died in the crash was a student in the pleasanton unified school district. the district says it's providing counselors and resources to support those affected. this awful. the loss of an entire family >> our our focus is always and how we support. how do we support students and staff and

families? >> the family was driving a fast. it's a car that's made from a company that's vietnamese. it's a vietnamese manufacturer. and they've only been around a couple of years. i spoke with a family friend off camera. she told me that she wants police to investigate to see if the car, my functioned other people stopping by here want this to be a sober reminder, somber reminder to all that. you need to be careful out there. you need to take it slow. i'm sara stinson reporting live in pleasanton. back to you. >> thank you, sarah. last night's deadly crash happened very close to where a crash in 2019 killed 3 teens including twin brothers. all of them were students at dublin high school and that crash happened on christmas day. it was also on foothill road. investigators say that the teen's car smashed into a power pole and then wrapped around a tree. 2 other teens were also seriously injured.

>> developing news tonight, the santa clara county district attorney has filed charges against the man seen in this video fighting with the police officer was protecting san jose mayor matt mahan. this happened tuesday as kron 4 was in the middle of an interview with the mayor in downtown san jose. wesley pollard is facing a felony charge of resisting arrest. police say pollard also had will arrest warrant out of georgia. 4. for resisting arrest with violence there he is set to appear in court tomorrow afternoon. >> police in walnut creek say they have arrested this man, marcus simon, after a report of an attempted kidnapping of a child at the downtown library on north broadway 2 weeks ago. officers say that they also found more than 600 images of child on electronic device that simon was carrying. simon is in jail on a 2 million dollar bail. police are also asking anyone

who may have fallen victim to simon to call them. >> in alameda county, the district attorney there has opened up a hotline for anyone who may have been a victim of 35 different people whose death penalty cases are now being reviewed. da pamela price says her office uncovered what maybe a pattern of misconduct dating back almost 30 years where prosecutors may have purposely excluded blacks and jews from juries. wright says the families of those harmed by those on death row are now being informed of what's going on. but anyone who has not been contacted is asked to call that hotline or email. the district attorney's office, the information for the hotline is that d a dot org. for the first time since october. we got our first glimpse of a berkeley native who was kidnapped by hamas during the attack on israel in october. and it is 23 year-old hersh goldberg-polin. there he is. experts say that.

next month has been canceled just a few miles away. ucla students began to set up a solitary solitary. >> encampment there. this has columbia university's president warned if tents are not removed by tomorrow, the school in new york will consider, quote, alternative options to clear the area. students say they will not disperse until their demands are met. >> new at 10 to drivers are arrested after police say one of them shot at another on what they say was part of road rage incident. witnesses tell police that the shooting happened in santa rosa yesterday morning on presley street near martin luther king junior memorial park. they say both drivers left the area. one of the drivers that later pulled over on the santa rosa avenue when he saw several police cars at the other continued to drive leading police on a chase until reaching mendocino avenue and 5th street where he abandoned the vehicle and attempted to run away. police were able to catch him and arrest him. police say that both of the

drivers had a gun in their cars. they say nobody was hurt, though. tonight, a part of redwood road in castro valley is closed because of a sinkhole. crews blocked off the road north of the red wood canyon golf course and chabot regional park. >> they first alerted us about the sinkhole about 6 o'clock tonight. there's no estimated time of when that road will reopen. none of the 4 zone forecast as we step outside view of rather quiet bay bridge toll plaza tonight. >> yeah, are telling tonight that the trains are running at reduced speed due to a little wet weather out there. lawrence, where's the wet weather about that little slick in spots as we've had some rain drops through the bay area this evening. likely continue overnight tonight and into tomorrow as well. so that late season storm rolling in, you can see not a ton of energy as it moves onshore. light showers being reported around northern california starting to slide further south now. and you can see some of the raindrops continue to work their way through turning into snow in the high country. they're in the bay

area. yeah, the raindrops just kind of rolling through a lot of part of the evening hours now tapering off from breaking up as they move the south bay. but this week isis has been rolling on through over the last couple of hours. we've had those showers moving in starting out the north and then here they came rolling in across the peninsula, falling apart. yet another wave of moisture rolling on shore. so we're going to see that play out throughout the night tonight. in fact, as you get up tomorrow morning, there's a chance we could see a few showers early on in the morning. temperatures generally in the 50's even it am still some scattered showers outside temperatures holding in the 50's warming up a little bit in spots cool and breezy. those winds are really going to pick up, especially toward tomorrow afternoon. the rain coming to an end late in the day. we'll check out a tentative forecast coming up the few minutes. thank lord. some shoppers in the east bay stunned to find out they're losing their walmart's. the retail giant anno nced today that one of its fremont stores >> is closing for good stand for and has the story. for nearly 20 years. this walmart, he's served cusfomers on al brace street in fremont.

>> next month, it's closing for good. i am very shocked. that explosion >> many of so long, this kind fortunate they're closing the store shoppers tell us this has been their go to walmart since it first opened back in 2006. >> a sign at the store's entrance sharing the closing date next month as well as reduced hours. the company says this location is one of several nationwide that have not been making enough. money starts always been very busy. the reason that given again for not having enough revenue to keep the store open, his is is is questionable. a walmart spokesperson tells kron 4 the closure affects more than 150 employees. those workers are being encouraged to transfer to other bay area stores, including one. that's roughly 3 miles away. fremont shoppers will now have to go to the city's osgood road location come next month or travel. even farther to union city or milpitas. it's kind of disappointing a because this punt this place is like the closest to where is.

>> san francisco parking control workers are calling for change are concerned about their safety. first grant lodes joins us here in the studio with more on their demands. grant. well, the sfmta workers say they were blindsided to learn about the agency's plan to increase ticketing for illegal parking. basically hand out more tickets. and obviously that will make people mad out there about 200 workers held a rally in front of the sfmta headquarters. the workers say the change would put targets on their backs, more targets on their backs. one parking control officer. we talked to says she's already been assaulted on the job. but you still want to take who was illegally part. >> he didn't like that. he got a ticket because he was doing doordash. so i continued on my my route. follow me about 2 or 3 blocks. waited until i

plan that they say would help with the current property insurance crisis. this after companies like state farm announce would not renew at least 70,000 property owner policies many due to their fire risk. kron four's gayle ong reports. >> fema grants for homeowners in designated areas and a tax credit for property owners. that's a 30% tax credit and a $10,000 grant. >> the 2 key components that make up. congressman mike thompson disaster resiliency and coverage act co sponsored by representative jared huffman. when you put it all together, this is an important piece of making sure that insurance remains available. >> and also affordable to the folks that we committed almost 7 years ago. to continuing to stand with him to serve. the proposed bill is aimed to help with the property insurance crisis. >> it is modeled after a program in alabama after homes are impacted by severe weather. it was the same want same story from every insurance company and it was.

through northern california right now. some more snow, if you can believe that piling up across some of the peaks in the sierra nevada of the rain kind of tapered off a bit. but you see coming in bands as it moved through this evening and moving through along the peninsula in the south bay, more sitting off the coastline. that will be pushing in overnight tonight and tomorrow morning. so the showers begin to break up. couple lingering showers into the east bay and also over the santa cruz mountains near mount a minimum. but this front, yeah, kind of working its way southward overnight tonight. and that's going to keep things going and behind we're going to get some very gusty winds, i think by tomorrow afternoon we'll start to clear out your skies. we get on the backs of the cold front. we could be looking at some 30, maybe some 40 mile an hour gusts along the coastline by tomorrow afternoon. maybe some sand near ocean be so watch out for that. if you are planning a parked car out there, here we go. the clouds overnight tonight. the showers kind of scattered about and then headed southward as we head toward tomorrow morning, the commute, there's a chance you could see a couple scattered light showers early on. and then by noon, another band of moisture moves on by. after that, the winds kick in the skies clear out the

temperatures are going to feel chilly around parts of air. we'll talk about that. the rescue forecast coming up in a few minutes. thank you, lord. san francisco has a new park in mission bay. it's right across the water from oracle park. leaders say china basin park has been in the works for more than 15 years. mayor london breed says >> just a first step and part of bigger plans to redevelop the it area. >> it includes residents, families, a new school being built so much has changed in this, right. this is a new neighborhood of san francisco. >> leaders say there will be special events from time to time including food truck events, concerts and outdoor exercise activities. >> all right. well, there's a new ice cream shop in walnut creek. it is an ohio based ice cream chain called handles for the very first barry location here. the stories on locust street just off mount diablo boulevard near saint marc. the owner says that he and his wife first got a taste of handles while they were utah on the water to bring it to the east bay.

>> new at 10 police in pacifica are looking for this man after they say he was seen starting a because fairway park back on april 10th. they say the man has visited the archery range at the park several times over the past month. if you've seen him or know him, being asked to give police a call. >> man was arrested, accused of ramming a stolen car into a police car police released a picture of the car being towed away monday night. officers say they noticed a car with a shattered sunroof. they ran the license plate and found the car had been reported stolen. police say they tried to pull over the car and in an attempt to get away the suspect allegedly rammed the patrol car. 6 times said apparently didn't work. the man was arrested. officers say they also found this loaded gun on the back seat.

>> now, 10 30's, san francisco cit workers are trying to improve their computer system after it went down this morning as kron dan kerman reports for us tonight. that computer system is in trouble. 2 dispatching police or fire crews when they get 9-1-1. calls. one day after the ribbon was cut on san francisco's new 9-1-1, dispatch center. >> the computer system that integral to dispatching emergency service personnel went down. what happened this morning is we had it what we call a cad outage where we had a failure, had our computer aided dispatch went san francisco's computer, aided dispatch system or cad allows those taking 9-1-1. calls to take incoming information into a computer which police and fire dispatchers in another part of the 9-1-1 center. can see and send help immediately when the system went down at 05:00am. that automatic

communication had to be done manually, meaning notes had to be written down and then physically handed to the appropriate dispatcher to send help. >> and something like this happens. it's all hands on deck. so we bring people out of key. why we bring our supervisors on the floor. whoever needs you know, jump in we have runners, you know, we it's a it's a building with a lot of people working in it. so when we have the scenario, we just bring in a few extra hands to make sure we have all the people we need. mary. ellen carroll is the executive director of san francisco's department of emergency management. >> she says dispatchers have trained for this. and as a result, there was no delay in answering incoming 9-1-1, calls or dispatching emergency personnel during the 2 and a half hour outage. >> we're really good at switching gears in order to handle this when it happens. while san francisco's 9-1-1, dispatch center is brand new. >> the cat is a decade old and well past its life expectancy

at the beginning of this year, a contract executed for a new cat system. as for the new cad system, city officials hope to have it up and running in the next 2 to 3 years at san francisco city hall. dan kerman kron. 4 news. >> the city of alameda is suing an investment company that owns the houseboat community for violating the city's rent control rules and allegedly harassing some of the communities. elderly residents. the barn hill marina is a community of more than 50 floating houses. the houseboat owners, they have to pay rent to a landlord for their spots at the marina access water and electricity valley investment redwood, a llc bought that reena 2 years ago. according to the alameda city attorney. that's when the company started hiking rents by nearly 200%. in some cases stopped paying city fees and created problems for people now trying to sell their floating homes. >> lost my wife cancer 2 years ago. this was our retirement.

and i have not been able to sell the house. because of what's going on here right now. there's another neighbor a little cell. where longer than me? again, because of the he had a buyer that was. i think they said 2 days away from mom. that school closing and he would talk ways would awesome. want. >> alameda city attorney says that the investment company so far owes the city $120,000 in fees. we have reached out to the investment company for comment and so far have not heard back. >> a warning for people visiting parks in the east bay or pretty much anywhere in the bay area. park officials say it's officially snake season from now through the summer. snakes are expected to be out on the roads trails to warm themselves up. so you're encouraged to try to slow down. keep an eye out when you're on the trails and so on. look out for snakes and other wildlife in the parks

because they're just being wild animals doing what they do, right? snakes aren't bad. keep the rodents at bay. true. yeah, lawrence. yeah. i didn't want that segue talking going right to you or one of one of the other, right? but yeah, you know, you've got to be careful out there. we're going to see some warmer temperatures getting into next weekend. you'all. the reptiles are going to be out there. that's for sure. but. >> well, the next day or so, i think they're going to be hibernating and they're going to be dealing with some cold temperatures. in fact, in the high country. you've got to be careful if you're headed that way. we're talking about some snow showers right now. you can see both 50 an 80 year 50 see some of that snow. so just right around the crest right now, you're seeing some of that rain turning to snow now. snow level will drop overnight tonight. that means if you plan on heading up there, you can actually see some snow, maybe all the way down the lake level and not just a little snow, as much as 6 inches across and the higher peaks. so late season storm rolling in. it's going to be a mix of some snow and some gusty winds to watch out for

over the weekend. you get above 7,000 feet or so. and that's when you can expect to see some of those higher amounts of snow. so, yeah, the likely going to see a couple travel delays, not the impending. probably not any road closures worry about that. be careful. roadway. still going to be slick up there. the cold temperatures, the snow and those gusty winds. but the good news is we get through tomorrow and the weekend looks great. the high country, lots of sunshine coming our way saturday and sunday. the temperatures almost 60 by sunday afternoon. but pretty impressive to see the computer models picking up by as much snow as they are as we head into the weekend. yeah. 3 to 6 inches of snow across parts of the higher peaks in the sierra nevada. that some good news out the door right now that had a couple of scattered showers. not much right now, dry out just a bit, but we'll see more of that overnight tonight and tomorrow morning to then those winds are really going to kick up by tomorrow afternoon. temperatures out the door right now generally in the 50's outside as we've got a lot of cloud cover and the winds start to blow just a 18, almost 20 miles per hour. but much stronger than that as we head toward tomorrow afternoon. all right. this

week, cold front coming through, bringing those scattered showers out there right now. tapering off just a little bit. but more waves of moisture will be moving in as we head through the night tonight and then by tomorrow afternoon, we'll start to clear out your skies. but those winds are really the start to blast as we head toward tomorrow afternoon to see him picking up by noontime start to see some 2030 by the hour gust by the af ernoon, 30 getting close to some 40 mile an hour gusts, according to our models, picking up, especially along the coastline through some of gaps in the mountains, embryo gap, put a pretty blustery at sfo for tomorrow. and it looks like after that things are going to start to quiet down. so that's the good news tomorrow. a few showers in the forecast. then we're going to dry things out for the weekend. weak cold front clips, northern california on saturday, we turn to some nice weather as we head in towards sunday. really next week looks pretty good. although late next week, the models having some different last night. look more like rain. the dryden out as we head the end of the forecast. but we'll have to wait and see how things work out. temperatures around the bay area tomorrow. yes, to be cool. and it's going to be windy along the coastline. watch out for some blowing sand out toward the beaches. a

lot of wind even inside the bay tomorrow in south bexar lack talking numbers, mainly maybe low to mid sixties east bay. temperatures up in the 60's as well. so yeah, could be on and off clouds tomorrow. definitely not feeling the season is where see these temperatures running well below the average. but your next 10 days will start to turn things around in the weekend. looking good outside. lots of sunshine, warmer weather getting near 80 degrees next tuesday and wednesday by the following or at least a following thursday. friday starts get a little iffy again right now last night models are pointing more toward rain tonight. they've dried out a bit. that means just have to wait to see. wait and wait and see miss last. watch out for those snakes. yeah, that's they're everywhere. they're think guys. >> a bill that ban tiktok in the u.s. is now the law of the land. so what now? >> well, officials say tiktok users shouldn't be too worried at least not yet. the law does give tiktok's chinese owner bytedance night months to sell the app with a possible

caltrans are asking for patience from travelers who will experience a longer weekend commute time than usual the side of paving and construction along the southbound lanes of i-680, are not new. this weekend will be the 4th and final time. the project closes the interstate from pleasanton to seminole starting 09:00pm friday and reopening at 04:00am monday. according to caltrans spokesperson for alameda county, janice morrow. we will be completed placing the roadway. >> with cement, which is a on long lasting that ariel so in the roadway reopens 04:00am monday. it will be a smooth ride for a moment. traffic will be rerouted during the work as well as along highway. 37 starting out tomorrow, friday at 09:00pm. we're back on westbound state route. 37. >> in the to the sonoma county line, caltrans spokesperson for that area chinchilla. >> says this is the second weekend lanes have been closed to traffic at this location. the detour is a long one. >> would normally is a 7.10,
