you're watching kron. 4 news at all. >> now at 5 tragedy in the east bay, a fiery car crash kills a family of 4. thanks for being with us tonight on kron. 4 news at 5, i'm grant lotus and i'm vicki liviakis. we still don't know much but in the last half hour we have learned that 4 people were killed, 2 of them adults and 2 children based on the layout of the aftermath believed that speeding was involved. a situation not uncommon in this area. we know just one car was involved in the crash. police say it's some sort of electric vehicle, but they are not saying what make or model yet. the crash happened around 9 o'clock last night at the area where foothill road switches from 2 lanes down to just one us just south of stone ridge drive the car veered off the road. it slammed into a light pole and then barreled into an oak tree. the tree and the ground around it are burned out. as you can see there,

they're still foam on the pavement, likely sprayed by the fire department. the cause of this crash is still being investigated, but police do not believe alcohol or foul play are factors in the crash. we spoke to one man dropping off a sign saying rest in love. he says that he did not know those who died but still feels it's important to pay tribute. >> it's a whole family was not much we can do to support. so. cannot. just trying to show support for game. >> we do not know the ages of the children who are killed their names and more the names of the 2 adults. those are being withheld right now until the family's next of kin can be identified. in for sara stinson is working to try to get more details for us about the crash and the family involved. she will bring us an update tonight on the kron. 4 news at 10. >> some breaking news charges are going to be filed against the man who attacked an officer who was providing

security for san jose mayor matt mahan. this happened tuesday when our crew was interviewing the mayor. police say 35 year-old wesley pollard got into a scuffle with the officer who is in plain clothing wearing a suit there. the officer was assigned to the mayor's security detail and the city says he tried to de-escalate the situation several times. but the altercation continued pollard is now facing both misdemeanor and felony charges. he is set to be arraigned tomorrow. for the first time since october. we got the first glimpse of a berkeley native who was kidnapped by hamas during their attack on israel in october. take a look. 23 year-old here. hersh goldberg-polin experts say it appears he's being forced to speak in the video is he blames the israeli government for neglecting the hostages for 200 days. goldberg-polin is missing his left hand and part of his arm reportedly

district is posted warnings reminding visitors that we're now officially in snake season. they're asking people to slow your roll and break for snakes. trying to get cute with the wording there from now through summer, snakes are expected to the lying on roads and trails to warm up. so watch out. officials encourage people to just slow down and keep an eye out for snakes and other wildlife when you're out there. yes, while wildlife, we're going to take a live look right now at mount diablo. >> we're look at those rain clouds overhead. is that what they are? >> the beautiful shot. there is a an unstable atmosphere and could see some showers as we move through the next 12, 20 hours or so. chief meteorologist lawrence karnow is here. that let us know what to expect. yeah, that's really the best way to describe it as just scattered showers about the bay area's not going to be a big wall of rain just sweeping on through. but >> there's a between now and really tomorrow afternoon. you

can see a couple scattered showers popping up around the bay area week. cold front kind of falling apart as it's moving on by. look at all the clouds rolling on through right now, more than on the way overnight tonight as another wave of moisture rolls on through. so doppler radar picking up on some raindrops most at a far northern california. so far we have seen a couple of scattered showers trying to pop up in the north bay. but so far no reports of any significant rain there just yet. but she'll clouds around the bay area that onshore wind continues to blow. and maybe that might be a bigger story tomorrow. we're going to see some gusty winds, some 20 some 30 plus mile an hour gusts around the bay area tomorrow as a frontal system kind of moves on by and scoots out of town tonight. if you're headed out the door, i don't think you should stop your plans. get out there and enjoying a lot of clouds out there. slight chance you might see a sprinkle tonight. i think a better chance as we head toward tomorrow morning in the afternoon, a chance of to scattered showers to but tonight, cool breezy all around the bay area. >> all right, lawrence, highway closures are going to continue in the bay area this weekend. this is the 4th

closure of the southbound lanes of i-680, in pleasanton the second closure for parts of highway. 37 in the layout. meanwhile, bart is also planning to close part of its tracks in oakland this weekend. kron four's rob nesbitt joins us now with. >> how all these closures will cause people to get to their destinations a little bit later than normal. rob grant, vicki, there are detour set up for drivers and bus is planned for bart riders. but caltrans and bart are both asking for patience from travelers. >> will experience a longer weekend commute than usual. the side of paving and construction along the southbound lanes of i-680, are not new. >> this weekend will be the 4th and final time. the project closes the interstate from pleasanton to seminole starting 09:00pm friday and reopening at 04:00am monday. according to caltrans spokesperson for alameda county, janice morrow county will be demolishing in removing deteriorated. pavement. >> we're all familiar with what it's like on southbound 6

saying in that area, it can definitely use only fresh traffic will be rerouted during the work as well as along the westbound lanes of highway. 37. >> between solano and sonoma counties, caltrans spokesperson for that area chinchilla says this is the second weekend lanes have been closed to traffic at this location. the detour is a long one. >> would normally is a 7.10, mile stretch that takes people 15 to 20 minutes. it is now a 25 mile detour that goes through solano county. napa county and sonoma county delays by car and by train. >> bart will be suspending service between rockridge station in oakland and lafayette station this weekend. chris filippi says is to keep workers along the tracks safe, a big role, but they all have this week. it is they'll be replacing lighting in the berkeley hills tunnel. so obviously we don't want to be reading trains through the tunnel as our workers are replacing those lights. he says free buses will be waiting at rock ridge in lafayette to transport riders to their next stop. adding

>> well, yesterday we showed you how san francisco's 9-1-1, dispatchers are now working with his brand-new office looks flashy looks nice. unfortunately, though, they're still relying on a computer system that is well past its show. we say sell day has our kron four's. kerman tells us tonight that has led to an outage that for city workers to scramble to keep the system up and running. >> one day after the ribbon was cut on san francisco's new

9-1-1, dispatch center. the computer system that integral to dispatching emergency service personnel went down. what happened this morning is we had it what we call a cad outage where we had a failure, had our computer aided dispatch went san francisco's computer, aided dispatch system or cad allows those taking 9-1-1. calls to take incoming information into a computer which police and fire dispatchers in another part of the 9-1-1 center. can see it and send help immediately when the system went down at 05:00am. that automatic communication had to be done manually, meaning notes had to be written down and then physically handed to the appropriate dispatcher to send help and something like this happens. it's all hands on deck. so we bring people out of key. why we bring our supervisors on the floor. whoever needs you know, jump in. >> we have runners, you know, we it's a it's a building with a lot of people working in it. so when we have the scenario, we just bring in a few extra

hands to make sure we have all the people we need. mary. ellen carroll is the executive director of san francisco's department of emergency management. >> she says dispatchers have trained for this. and as a result, there was no delay in answering incoming 9-1-1, calls or dispatching emergency personnel during the 2 and a half hour outage. >> we're really good at switching gears in order to handle this. when it happens, all san francisco's 9-1-1, dispatch center is brand new. >> the cat is a decade old and well past its life expectancy at the beginning of this year, a contract executed for a new cat system. as for the new cad system, city officials hope to have it up and running in the next 2 to 3 years at san francisco city hall. dan kerman kron. 4 news, the battle between houseboat community and their landlord is heating up. now the city of alameda stepping in by filing a lawsuit. >> this is barnhill marina home to more than 50 floating homes 2 years ago. the valley

investment redwood llc bought the private marina and the city alleges that the owner is harassing dozens of tenants and preventing them from selling their homes. many our seniors and they lived on their household homes for decades. >> lost my wife to cancer 2 years ago. this was our retirement. and i have not been able to sell the house. because of what's going on here right now. >> last fall, the landlord sued and lost their battle to beat down a rent control ordinance. but city attorneys say they continue to harass the tenants and refused to pay city fees in this lawsuit. the city says it's teamed up with the d a to force valley investments to comply with the law. doug parker says that he's grateful the city is helping in hopes that new owners are going to work with them and not against them. >> i will not great weather for a houseboat because the winds are whipping up an expected to gust even more

strongly tomorrow. as we look live here at the golden gate bridge, see the flag. they're starting to go. yeah. and lawrence, those those clouds look really foreboding. yeah, they do. those are firmly a weak cold front now sliding into the state. that's going to start heading further south overnight tonight. and i think that's where may get a couple raindrops overnight tonight into tomorrow morning and well, be prepared for that on and off throughout the day. not going to be a rain out, but something want to watch out for out of half moon bay right now. here's a look. just a couple surfers battling out in the water out there, even with the cool temperatures in the clouds and the breeze there. now, i think it's windy by tomorrow afternoon along the coastline, especially temperatures out the door, 60 degrees in san francisco. 61 in oakland. 65 in san jose. 60 in lemore 65 in concord and 65 degrees. in santa rosa and active weather pattern right now. we've got another cold front making its way in the pacific northwest in the southern part of that, starting to track a little further south now into northern california. and there you go. you can see some pop-up most near santa rosa

right now, a chance of some showers popping up there as well. but you see mostly activity for the north toward reading in chico, but that it's are going to be sliding down throughout the night tonight and tomorrow morning to right now dry. the winds continuing around the bay area. but overnight tonight, we're going to see some of that moisture work its way toward the bay area. so not a rainout, but certainly a chance of a couple of scattered showers. so late season, a cold front dropping in the bay area going to start to fall apart as we get move through and as it goes by on the backside of that, we're going to see some windy conditions. there may be 2030, plus mile an hour gusts around the bay area, especially on the coast side through some of the mountain gaps in san bruno gap going to probably very gusty tomorrow may be actually causing some delays there at temperatures. yeah, they're going to stay on the cool side. 59 degrees in san francisco for a high 65 degrees in oakland. you're looking about 65 degrees in san jose with some partly cloudy skies, not as much chance of a shower or 2 in the south bay, but likely along the coastline and in parts of the north bay over the next

but things could change. as we all know, things could change because deals can be made in. they were speaking about possibility of a deal when it came to deebo samuel and brandon aiyuk. so obviously. things have gotten even more interesting with that being said, because with the niners entertaining the conversation about deals are both deebo and i you to move up in the draft. >> they wanted to move up as far the top 10 possibly now they said they would have to be blown away by deebo deal in order to deal depot. and of course i you that's a conversation in and of itself. now you see him there. he was pivotal for the super bowl last season. he was pivotal for the playoffs altogether for the niners last season. now that being said. has obviously expressed his interest in being anywhere where he can get a championship. and now considering that they would have to pay brock purdy after this coming season. in addition to having to bait guys like deebo samuel, if he's not built tonight, joy skill and christian mccaffrey
