kron four's. >> michael thomas is in the newsroom following the story for us. michael. >> hey, good morning, everyone. a tragic story to say the least and that driver is still on the run this morning while a husband and father of 2 is in the hospital listed under critical condition with bob's donuts. his employer telling me he hasn't been responsive since the accident. san francisco police say early sunday morning around 03:00am near to pass avenue in guerrero street. they found a man that was unconscious and lying on the ground with no identification. >> he would soon be identified as his sous mizzou deo. he had been hit by a vehicle while riding an electric scooter with the driver and vehicle fleeing the scene. he was rushed to a nearby hospital and has been listed under critical condition ever since. where is he headed? well into his 3 m shifted bob's donuts and he was wearing his uniform when he was police >> we should. you know, and

see only on kron 4. that is a security guard that was keeping somebody away. >> from the mayor as we were doing an interview with mayor matt mahan and downtown san jose yesterday when this happened, this man apparently approached the mayor and he was acting erratically and show the is the security guard stepped in its a plainclothes police officer assigned to the mayor's security detail. at first he tried to de-escalate situation several times and eventually that man, as you can see him kind of jumping around. but then he grew agitated and hit the officer. then several bystanders helped detain the man and he was eventually taken into custody. the officer was treated at the hospital for minor injuries. and now that man faces several charges, including felony battery on a police officer. >> well, meanwhile, police are investigating an assault that took place at u c berkeley last night. police say they responded to a report of an assault on the campus right near the crescent area the

campus there. you can see it here in the map. now the report says that a female suspect sprayed the victim with an unknown liquid. while a male suspect then hit the individual over the head with a hard object. the suspects then fled the scene in a dark colored, older european sedan. police say the investigation still ongoing. we'll let you know what we find out. >> a memorial service for fallen oakland, officer jordan wingate is set for this friday. he died saturday from injuries he suffered in a car crash back in 2018 while he was on duty. that service will be a 3 crosses church in castro valley. at 11 o'clock. and it is open to the public. in the south bay. a santa clara man is charged with stealing more than $10,000 from an elderly couple that he was hired to take care of the santa clara county sheriff's office believes there could be more victims out there as well. jerrold compass to know

sir rio was working as a temporary caregiver for an elderly couple in the los altos hills. and during that time, investigators say that he used the couple's credit card. >> 15 times in 2 weeks. >> the victim's daughter was preparing their tax documents when she found the transactions. >> when deputies investigate is they say they saw sarah rio in video at atm's and he was arrested last week. >> it's 806, another big story that we're following is a san jose city council just approved a plan to build 150 new affordable housing units in the southern part of san jose. off of the exit and highway 85. yes. so the mayor's office says that once that housing is built, homeless people who are currently living in rv's encampments will be given 2 options either except the shelter. >> crawford, jack moment has more. well, it was here at san jose city council last week were councilors approved the contract to get the ball

rolling on this housing project in south san jose, a neighborhood where mayor matt mahan tells me there is a significant number >> of unhoused people there. and he says once this facility is constructed, they will offer shelter numerous times to the unhoused people there. and if you do not accept it, they will be swept. >> right now, it's an empty lot. but soon a housing complex will stand with 150. a small step to help bring the thousands of currently unhoused people in san jose get off the street. yes, it is very difficult. sharon lee has been at this encampment between and monterey road for a year. okay. he's speaking outside. scary. she says volunteers used to take trash out of their encampment. that stopped 3 months ago. she also says there are rumors that this camp will be swept. i was on the late in this sense. 2018, that's 6 years. she's waited for housing. she hopes that wait will be over with this new facility gets built in her backyard. one is that

>> no one's quite getting to the 70's. so we're definitely on the cooler end of the things to be wrapping up. april, kicking off may here in just a few days doing it all with some weather. that's maybe not this bright as we have liked looking out there from the east bay hills. just a whole lot of cloud cover. up ahead. you can see that's affecting pretty much all of the bay area this morning didn't get much of a sunrise. we're also seeing some convective activity yesterday, the sierra and the central valley were lit up with afternoon thunderstorms. thanks to this low pressure area that is dragging in some really humid air from the south. that's the muggy feel that we've got today. it's not going to do as much for us as it does for southern california in the sierra with opportunity of thunderstorm development each of the next several days here. so the tail end of the week, it's just staying on the cooler side of things as well as active for much of the state. the bay area. we have a cloudy day today. tomorrow, mostly cloudy as well. likely a little less muggy for your thursday thursday night into friday

morning, seeing the opportunity of really just a few isolated showers popping up across the region. the central valley. and this year, though, if you look at friday morning into afternoon, take a look at those spots of yellow and orange popping up. that is some thunderstorm activity that really kicks off the weekend for some for further areas inland from the bay. rainfall totals for us. maybe just a sprinkle or 2 at most. well, the sierra does see a chance of thunderstorms, the very highest of elevations like that to get one of the last nose of the season with just a few inches of snowfall. again at those highest of elevations this weekend. temperatures today are going to be in the low 60's at the coast and then mid to upper 60's elsewhere. we're really looking at a mild feel today, but a muggy feel along with it. so don't be surprised by that. winds are a lot calmer than yesterday. so i wouldn't refer to this is a brisk one. just a cooler and cloudier one oakland at 65 today, north bay temps also mid to upper 60's at the very warmest tomorrow. very similar feel mostly

>> well, critics of that she's too soft on crime, but her attorney claims that the recall this entire process has been illegal from the start. they allege that the registrar of voters failed to follow the rules of the county charter and that the signatures weren't counted within the 10 days like they were supposed to and that the people used outside people from the county outside the county to gather the signatures. well at the state capitol members of california's latino legislatioi caucus legislative caucus rallied in support of 16 bills. they say these bills will help address the most important issues facing the state's latino community. the bills include expanded access to health care through covered california, as well as increased access to food, affordable housing and education assembly members spoke out saying that these resources will improve the life for the communities that need them the most. >> our farm workers are the lifeblood of our state putting food on the table. not just here, but around the world. we have to do everything in our

all right. james, back to you. thank you. reyna is 8.31. and new this morning, the san francisco deputy sheriffs association has sent a letter to the city. they're demanding. >> that they hire more people because they say the overtime has gotten out of hand. yeah, that's what the union says. deputies facing fatigue as a result about other health problems as well because of this. a staffing shortage. >> kron four's will tran standing by in the city to explain more will. >> james, they say they work an average of 28 hours over time each week and the deputy say that is 3 times more than that is recommended by osha. and that is causing them to faced serious problems. they work as far as their safety and when they're not at work. well, that puts a strain on their body and that can lead to long-term health risks, which is why they wrote a letter to san francisco city hall, including mayor london breed asking her as well as the city of san francisco, bringing more help immediately

because right now we're simply overworked and we cannot handle this load at this particular time. they say, you know what, when they patrol the jails and that's one of their duties. well, they may not be ready to pounce on the situation because they are simply overworked. take a look at your screen. this is what they sent to mayor london breed as well as the board president. they are asking for help and there their timetable is right now. they say with an average of only 5.2 5 hours of sleep per 24 hour period, deputies are facing serious risks to their health and safety. the survey also found rates of physical and mental health problems among deputies, including high blood pressure, sleep apnea, depressive symptoms, as well as anxiety. now i've reached out to the deputies association to see if we can get a comment on camera this morning to see how many deputies they are looking to fill. you know, sometimes this is what they're facing and this is what they're hoping to

get. and hopefully they'll get a reaction to me before the end of the newscast. but again, in a way, guys, they're calling 9-1-1 to the city of san francisco. back to it. and interesting way to put a right way to put it. think you will help. okay. >> 33 michigan. that would require corner stores, liquor stores, smoke shops to close from midnight to 05:00am in the tenderloin in san francisco. and if stores don't comply, they face $1000 fine for every hour that they stay open. this would not include restaurants or bars or event spaces. and this is all in an effort to fight open air drug markets that are happening around the shops in the tenderloin. >> anything that helps so her tail that the drug trade and the drug activity on our streets is, you know, something worth. >> some store owners say they're going to lose money if this initiative passes. mayor london breed spoke at an event

that in support of small businesses in the tenderloin is she said at the time that she's coordinating with law enforcement and the community to make deep and lasting changes in the tenderloin. and that's why this is being proposed. >> in the east bay, a 6 year-old boy is sadly killed in a car crash in richmond. a gofundme page. 4 alvarez junior says that the car was in he was in was struck by a drunk driver. the crash happened cutting boulevard and carlson boulevard. his go fund me page says that he liked practicing sports with his dad and hanging out with his teammates. he played with the richmond little league. his family now reaching out for community support as they face some unexpected funeral and medical expenses. >> 8.34 is the time in the bay. a plea deal has now been reached in the murder of a home depot worker who was shot and killed confronting a shoplifting suspect in pleasanton a kron four's. dan kerman talked with the victim's mother.

>> 26 year-old blake. most was shot and killed a little over a year ago while working as a loss prevention officer at this home depot in pleasanton. police say he was shot after confronting a woman for shoplifting. that woman was later identified as benicia naps. she was eventually charged with murder and her accomplice. david guillory was charged with child endangerment and accessory to robbery. now is the 2 are set to go to trial. a plea agreement has been reached with naps, pleading guilty with the sentence of 19 years to life and guillory pleading guilty with a sentence of 7 years and 4 months. if the deal is actually a plea deal that i. >> arrange for. >> lori moses, the mother of blake moe's. she says it was the family's decision to offer this deal instead of going through a protracted trial with grisly details and potential appeals. >> it gives us our life back. we now get to pursue other things and honor our son instead of. the people that

killer side continuing to hold ransom our lives and our families. it's big, big deal to us. 2 to have freedom and to be able to grieve properly and to debris. most never thought. da pamela price made the proper charging decisions in her son's murder. >> and says if she had a plea deal may have been reached earlier. now with the deal done, the family can grieve properly. and remember, blake moe's for who he was. blake was all about the love people, the one that is bullied or be not worth forgotten about. he was the person that would go find them and bring them into the fold. >> he lived with his heart on his sleeve and with massive compassion for people and his family. any touch so many people in 26 years. >> that was dan kerman reporting a sentencing hearing to finalize this plea deal was set for june 6th. it's 8.37

cloud cover overhead, something that we're going to be seeing all throughout the course of your wednesday today and a muggy feel along with it, too. there's a look at radar. just a lot of cloud cover that blanket of clouds very evident across the bay. yesterday we had the central valley in the sierra lit up with a thunderstorm activity. all this can be attributed to the low pressure area sitting to the south of a southerly wind streaming into the bay area, transporting that humid air up our direction. dust. the muddy field today, low pressure moves across the region over the next few days in by thursday night into friday morning. chance of a sprinkle for the bay and even better chance of rain and thunderstorms for areas to our south and to our east high pressure to slowly build back into next week. as for the immediate forecast, futurecast shows a lot of clouds both today and tomorrow, tomorrow night into friday morning. we'll see that opportunity of a few isolated sprinkles here. and there the central valley towards friday will be seeing some heavy rainfall and thunderstorm development. but that is going to be well farther inland than those of us here locally rainfall over

are busy in the 8 o'clock hour. >> i wait until about 10 o'clock to hit the roads because a party stuck in some of the delays. whether you're in the east bay, north the south bay, things are busy out there. the bay bridge. we have seen some improvement because we're at about 25 minutes in the last hour. went down 14 minutes. the san mateo bridge look bad as it did when we started 30 minute ride. that's because it's low long 8.80. we did have some earlier accidents on the san mateo bridge. those are no clear, but yet residual delays. 21 minutes along highway 4, antioch to concord is down. 35 minutes. southbound 6.80, double down the freeman about 26 minutes soon. as you get to class pleasanton, they start to improve just a bit. they want get fremont down again. check it out. 85 down in the south bay, san jose to mountain view. 45 minute ride, see those other highways in the south bay, like a 7 is busy. 2, 82. 37, i will leave you with a look at 24 walnut creek down to 5.80, about 15 minutes. just a little slow.
