>> we'll hear on the cal campus. a group of protesters demanding an end to the conflict between israel and hamas has set up camp on sproul plaza in front of cal berkeley's sproul hall tuesday morning. protesters had set up dozens of tents along with banners and signs of support for the people of gaza and palestine. >> they are demanding that the school called for a cease-fire in the conflict between israel and hamas over the past several months, protesters have caused disruptions on campus. in march. the university had to evacuate attendees at an event organized by jewish student groups. when pro-palestinian protesters gathered outside is for all paws. on tuesday, some students walking to class expressed support for the protesters. i think that the students using their power and their privilege to uplift other people, especially those suffering from a genocide is extremely important. this is created an environment on campus. that's >> very. >> i'm comfortable. >> but some jewish students say that they have been harassed for months, feel that the university has let them

down. uc berkeley doesn't care about your students prioritize your safety and it isn't care of, you know, we are forced to learn in an environment that is not conducive to one in which we feel welcomed. >> or let alone say fun. >> the university says that with just 3 weeks left in the school year, they want to protect the right to free speech, but also make sure that the school run smoothly and safely. we'll be ready to take any steps necessary to ensure that the university's operations aren't disrupted by this protest. >> and those operations obviously include teaching learning and research. >> so far it's unclear how long these protesters plan to remain on campus. >> and finally, the protesters are calling on the university to create a financial boycott of israel. school says that is not something they are considering. but for now in berkeley, charles, clifford kron, 4 news. >> the jewish community relations council released a statement in response to the demonstration that reads, we

are carefully monitoring the emerging anti israel protests at uc berkeley which appeared to be inspired by the people. and i cemented anti semitic, columbia encampment. that's responsible for harassing and blocking jewish students from accessing their campus. well, their words are apparent. the protesters at uc berkeley have a right to free speech and assembly and no violence or obstruction has yet been reported. we are in conversation with the administration who are committed to ensuring jewish safety and participation participation. another northern california campus has now been closed because of similar demonstrations. california state polytechnic university in humboldt making the announcement on its website. the campus will be closed through tomorrow. the school says this is for the safety of the campus community as protesters continue to occupy siemens hall, the demonstrations started last night. buildings are locked down. key cards are not working. classes are being conducted remotely.

pro-palestinian protest emerging at several colleges and universities across the country. more than 130 demonstrators arrested yesterday after refusing to leave an encampment that they set up at nyu, about 60 people were arrested yesterday at a similar protest on gill's campus. more than 30 tents were set up at the university of michigan. 9 people were arrested after setting up an encampment at the university of minnesota and was last week that more than 100 columbia students were arrested for occupying a space on campus for more than 30 hours. the school says the decision was made following reports of, quote, intimidating chance and several anti-semitic incidents. all classes there are now remote because of safety concerns at least 20 more google employees have been fired, bringing the total 2 more than 50 people following protests over the company's involvement with israel. at issue for the protesters, a 1.2 billion dollar contract was signed in 2021. for google and amazon to

provide cloud computing and artificial intelligence services. last week, demonstrators took part in the sit-in at google offices in sunnyvale and new york. the latest firings are coming after an investigation revealed the identities of more employees to google says physically disrupted co-workers. some developing news now. we have learned tesla is laying off more than 3300 employees in california. many of them are in the bay area more than 2700 of the employees work in fremont of palo alto. that's according to the california employment development department with the remaining employees working in burbank and laugh. rop last week it was reported that tesla plan to lay off 10% of its total workforce after subpar 1st quarter sales, the layoffs will begin in the middle of june. we have reached out to tesla for comment and are waiting to get a response back. we'll take a live look outside. can see what it looks like here across the embarcadero. lots of clouds out there today. kolr grogan here now with what we

can expect as we head into the evening hours. yeah. a little more of the same afraid. cool temperatures and cloudy skies out there. you can see the evening commute just getting started here in our afternoon. >> as people are heading home and the good news is these roads are dry. we don't really have any wet roads to speak up. but there is expected to be a little drizzle as we get into tonight. also, some wind out there you can see between, you know, 15, 16 miles per hour in several spots in the bay right now. so if you're headed across the bridges, you could feel a little bit of that wind as well as you're going through. and this is all because of the low pressure system that's sitting offshore. now you can see that it's cooled us down and it's brought us clouds. but as you zoom in here, you start to see in parts of the state where we have mountains. we've got a little uplift who actually gotten a little bit of rain. and also we've got a little bit of lightning earlier today. so right now we're not dealing with any of that, but we certainly are dealing with the clouds, right? so that's keeping us very cool temperatures right now. just 59 degrees in downtown san francisco. you can see antioch is up to 67. that's really highest number on the map. san jose about 65. but we've just

reached the 60 degree mark in santa rosa. it's been sitting in the 50's all day today. so the difference in temperatures between now and 24 hours ago is pretty dramatic here. you can see between 10 to 16 degrees in many spots out there that are, you know, just a lot cooler than we were yesterday where we had people are in the 80's and santa rosa and napa livermore concord down in san jose as well. so tonight it's going to be about the clouds. we do have a full moon out there tonight. if you have a chance to see it, temperatures will be mild 2 about 47 52 because we do have that cloud cover. kind of keeping us a little bit warmer as we go into the overnight. i'll be back in a little bit. we'll talk about our chances of when we're going to see that beautiful california sunshine, a little bit of a warmer temperature profile. back to you. thank popular vegan restaurant in downtown oakland burglarized yet again. this marks the 4th break in there in 3 years. >> rose didn't draw near the intersection of 14th and jefferson streets closed yesterday. the restaurant sharing a photo of the shattered glass door at the restaurant's entrance announcing a temporary closure

because of the break-in. last month the restaurant owner said he was considering leaving oakland because there was a 3rd break and now there's this 4th. so we have reached out to the owner, but so far have not heard back. save alameda for everyone. the group leading the effort to recall alameda county district attorney pamela price holding a rally at the alameda county administration building this morning, they sent a letter to the board of supervisors calling on the board to set a date for the recall election during next tuesday's meeting, the group claims supervisors are not following the county charter. >> this mall, then it just we call is also wake up call for many of especially of this county. >> the damage that has been so far. it's tremendous. and we should not be the only people that see what's going on. the board of supervisors have a job to president miley. it's your responsibility.

>> to set a date for the recall. put that on the agenda and we want to see that on april 30th and will be here to watch you and watch the board vote on that. >> prices been criticized for being lenient of criminals. her attorney claims the recall is the legal alleging the register voters failed to follow the rules of the county's charter specifically signatures were not counted within 10 days and people from outside the county were used to gather the signatures. shutting down some businesses in the tenderloin overnight. san francisco mayor london breed announcing a new initiative that would do just that. it's aimed at cracking down on drug dealing in the neighborhood. it would prohibit some retail stores that sell pre-packaged food or tobacco from operating between the hours of midnight and 05:00am brie to set to present the board of supervisors. this plan, the mayor's office says she developed this plan after getting input from stakeholders in the neighborhood and community members. other businesses, including restaurants, bars and event halls would not be impacted by this. a san jose

fire department captain captain has been arrested for allegedly being a child sting operation in sacramento. the bay area firefighter, just one of 24 suspected internet predators who were arrested kron four's. michael thomas has the story. >> the sacramento county sheriff's office says that the san jose fire captain was just one of many in a position of public trust that was caught trying to meet up with young girls. this is video from the sacramento sheriff's office says they arrested 24 suspects at the end of march during a three-day child predator sting operation grown adults ranging from age 22 men in their 70's trying to meet up with young girls and have. 43 year-old spencer parker, a san jose fire captain was part of those arrested and is now facing charges from the sacramento county district attorney's office which were filed on april 3rd, the san jose fire department says his last day of work was march 31st. he was then placed on administrative leave on april. 11th but resigned the following day. he

had been with the department since july of 2008. no details have been given on parker specific case. but investigators say some predators persuaded detectives to send pornographic photos and even made plans to meet up at a hotel room with kids that were 13 years old, some even 10 years old, but a knock at the door and they were greeted by deputies. it's like having your figured and the. >> trying to hold it back. it is at prolific. i don't care how smart perhaps could you think your son or daughter is an adult coming up with a child battle lines period. >> the san jose fire department tells us in a statement, quote, no criminal activity is tolerable in our service in these types of crimes described by the charges are beyond the trail of public trust and are particularly reprehensible when committed by someone sworn to public service. spencer parker is set to appear in court tomorrow as we get more details. we'll keep you updated. that's a very latest here in the newsroom. i'm michael thomas will send it back to you live in the studio. >> coming up, oakland breaking

its new york criminal trial. >> held a special hearing to decide whether his post are violating a gag order. our washington, d.c., correspondent hannah brandt explains what happened in court. >> former president donald trump's high stakes criminal trial was briefly interrupted on tuesday for a fight over a gag additional the judge issued a gag order. barring the former president from publicly criticizing witnesses. but trump posted anyway lashing out his former lawyer, michael cohen, an adult film star, stormy daniels. prosecutors argued the judge should find trump. i'm georgetown law professor david super calls trump's posed a clear violation of the gag order. if you or i were subject to this gag order and we tweeted like that would be locked up in a flash. but >> you and i are about mister trump. he says the judge is unlikely to put trump in jail over this book could find the

former president, although super says that may not have much of an impact on trump's behavior from his perspective trails off the table to foreign sarah wilkinson was going to do what he wants to do. the judge is expected to make a decision about that in the coming days. in the meantime, the trial continued the testimony, the former publisher of the national enquirer told the jury that donald trump was directly involved in a scheme to buy very negative stories about him during the 2016 election. gag order material is frankly a bit of a sideshow. that testimony is what really matters. the trial is set to resume with more testimony on thursday in washington. i'm hannah brandt. >> the u.s. supreme court will in federal court in washington with conspiring to overturn the results of the 2020 election. the justice department argues no president is above the law. however, mister trump's lawyers say presidents are entitled to absolute immunity and are

attempting to have the charges against him dismissed they say the office of the presidency cannot function if president is worried about criminal charges being brought against them. decision is expected sometime in june. >> now to the north bay where crews are working right now to fix the sausalito pier in hopes of getting the ferry service back up and running again. that ferry route between san francisco in sausalito has been >> offline since friday, a routine inspection found damage to one of the piers for piles a ferry spokesperson says while work to repair, it has begun. that started over the weekend. they can only do that work during low tide. so this could take some time to fix the suspension of service is impacting about 500 people every day. >> it was kind of surprised because i thought it's easy to fix, but they could kind of looks like it's not easy to fix. so putin. it's not going to last. too

>> until the repairs are made, golden gate transit is providing bus service to and from the city, the pier was built back in the 70's and officials say there is a plan to replace it. but that work has not yet started. 3 historic oakland based black, indigenous and people of color. developers are celebrating the groundbreaking of a new affordable housing development in the city. the site is located on east 12th street and second avenue in oakland's lake merritt, that east lake neighborhood, a quarter of the 91 units are. designated as permanent supportive housing for unhoused individuals and families. this is also among the first projects to break ground with funding from measure you. that's an affordable housing infrastructure bond that was just passed. here's what it looks like outside right now at sfo. great. also in this part of town, we have meteorologist cole going here now with our forecast and you said earlier, like i hate being right? haha. i know. so we get like a peek of sunshine

in the afternoon. now. that's that's a look. >> it's cloudy out there. we'll have that today. we tomorrow next couple of days, s kind kind of profile. you're taking a live look here at half of it as trying to figure out of somebody in the water. i don't know if dog it's hard to tell that i was looking and seeing somebody right about there. >> brave soul. it's got to be a little chilly out there between the wind and also the cool temperatures. they are sitting. >> at 57 degrees at half moon bay. 65 in san jose. livermore about 63 livermore was in the low 80's yesterday. 61 in berkeley, sonoma about 63 and petaluma a chilly 59 degrees this afternoon. very different from yesterday. we've also got a little bit of a breeze out there. these are some of the future wind gusts to expect as we get into our evening. so once again, little blustery, a little cool and certainly very, very gray and all this because of low pressure, you can see the sitting right off the coast here throwing some energy not only our way in the form of clouds, but also you can see some lightning and some rain that is firing up and some of the places where

we have mountains right to the sierra. and also if you look to the north of us here in and just to the west of redding where got some of the peaks that are there, too. so you get that uplifting. you get that energy and that's what happens. but we are getting the clouds and a big swirl of them sitting right offshore here. just driving all of that great weather to our way. so this low pressure is going to be controlled for a little while here. high pressure kind of moved out. that was keeping us warm last weekend. this is thursday. could see it sitting right over the top of us. and then we start to see a little bit of a difference here. temperatures will start to lift up as you get the latter part of the weekend. we get a little zonal again. little high pressure here. little low pressure there. kind of keeps us right in the middle of that actually takes us back perfectly average temperatures. so take napa is an example where they should be about 73 degrees this time of year. you can see we're below average until we get to sunday. once we hit sunday. that's when we start to pull back to where we should be. so we were wildly warm. now we're going to be wildly cold over the next couple of days. even a chance of a little shower

there on friday, i think will be very slight chance. and then after that, we do get into some really nice weather just in time for the weekend and the beginning of next week. so lots of sunshine to come. just not really until saturday. >> thank you. happening tonight, a lot of teachers will hold a rally asking for better pay because of the high cost of living in the bay area. members of the educator's association say talks with the school district. the palo alto unified school district have broken down. that rally is set for 6 tonight at the pa usd office on churchill avenue. and now cars have to drive very carefully on highway 24 yesterday as 3 cowboys were trying to wrangle. some cows. this is right before us. 8 stevens drive and the hidden valley road exit. a horse trailer tried to help, but the cows they kept on escaping. look trying to corner them. there. got the is out. any success here? negative. haha.

the cheapest santa clara, where the average price for a gallon of regular. it's just over $5 and $0.50. u.s. airlines are expected to receive 40% fewer planes than they did last year. that's according to an industry group called aerodynamic advisory. many are blaming boeing 7.37. max production delays as a reason for the shortage. several airlines, including united and southwest, have paused all hiring united is even offering their pilots on paid leave. experts say airlines have. a few short months to figure out all the shortfalls before the summer travel really starts to take off. and delta workers are getting another race. the airline raised staff pay by 5% a year ago and it's doing it again. the pay increase starts june first applies to flight attendants, ground handlers, mechanics and some office workers among some other people in the company. it does not apply to the pilots who

story that we're following this afternoon includes the 35 death penalty cases are now under review and alameda county to to the possibility >> of misconduct by prosecutors. alameda county district attorney pamela price says her office has uncovered what may be a pattern of misconduct that goes back almost 30 years. prosecutors may have excluded black and jewish people from juries on purpose. kron four's. dan kerman has the story. >> we recognize how terrible

this and it is something that we have to make right at a news conference monday. alameda county district attorney pamela price said a federal judge has ordered her office to review 35 active death penalty cases going back nearly 50 years for prosecutorial misconduct. certain prosecutors and the alameda county district attorneys office may have intentionally appeared to have intentionally excluded jewish and black jurors from death penalty cases prices. these prosecutorial notes suggesting the exclusion of blacks and jews from juries was discovered when her office was reviewing the appeal of our mistakes. a 51 year-old man convicted in 1993 and sentenced to death in 1995. for the murder of a 9 year-old in the attempted murder of his grandmother during an attempted robbery discovered notes were shared with the federal judge in the dikes case who ordered a more thorough review. the evidence that we have uncovered suggest

plainly that many people did not receive a fair trial in alameda county. and as a result, we have to review all of the files. >> to determine. what happened and what the appropriate remedy price says that review is now underway and loved ones of those harmed by those on death row. >> are now being informed of what's going on. she says the alleged misconduct is not limited to just one or 2 prosecutors and doug's case is not the only one that suggests similar misconduct. dan kerman kron, 4 news. now to the south bay weigh 160 unit apartment complex on the east side of san jose is supposed to be one of many solutions to homelessness in the area. >> however, there are complaints coming from multiple people who live inside of that complex. it's called the renaissance place off of center road tenants are reporting water leaks and expose fiberglass in the hallways. they also said that there's open drug use happening inside of the

apartment complex with little to no supervision from property management. tenants tell us they voice their concerns to their landlord and then they often don't hear anything back. >> and joe is lot is things going on that we're not being >> people being just they're not good they had their peaks into use. it's been. >> since i've been there. >> we did reach out to the property management as well as the company that owns the property and so far have not heard back. the high cost of living and low wages are keeping quality candidates from becoming teachers and forcing longtime educators to opt out of careers inside of classrooms. but as kron 4 all reports, a new teacher residency program in the east bay aims to change that. and it falls in line with others trying to keep equity in education.

>> teacher by day student at night. that's not the most lucrative job, but it's really what i'm passionate about. an aspiring educators path to solvency accelerated by a pressing need. >> for more school leaders after my 3rd year of teaching, i had to leave the classroom because i couldn't afford to live here. let go of the veterans for a cheaper and possibly more youth conne ted workforce. we're keeping status quo and your not advance. keep pace with society and your community is left to step behind. >> the modern days business society stuck with balancing loyalty and profits. we are actively recruiting at this time. there has to be a way to combine both up and comers with proven go getters. this isn't apprenticeship model. >> and that time to be mentors and to grow is is protected through this saint mary's college of california in moraga and the san ramon valley unified school district's partnership alludes to a successful launch to an enduring partnership. it's

going to be our faculty and our staff supporting our graduate learners as they go on this journey to become educators. earlier this month, the school district and smc help their first joint presentation. introducing the institutions teachers for tomorrow residency program. what we want to do is have a strong balance between the clinical practice side and the academic side so that aspiring educators arecoming in. >> they're they're getting the academic theory and they're also getting a strong practice in the field. graduate students overcoming inequity pursuing careers as teachers who otherwise would focus on higher paying jobs. >> instead, an opportunity to advance their passions, education. we have limited number of spots >> to be able to provide an offer to people. program pays each teaching apprentice $32,500 to combine a year's worth of classwork at saint

mary's college of california. >> and a concurrent year of mentorship from a san ramon valley unified school district teacher with live classroom experience. they will earn a teaching credential sanctioned by the state and all but guaranteed a district teaching job after the apprenticeship and residents see the way i'm able to. >> live and survive in the bay area right now is which trail plus socal native tyler cardenas is a student teacher in oakland's teacher residency program the uc berkeley alarm earned his bachelor's degree from cal and is currently being below market on his rings. and as part of his tuition paid for through the residency program, which compensates aspiring teachers from learning how to be an educator. >> and do so while learning from mentors target nice. also benefits from the nonprofit rio plus, teachers rooted in ded by killing them. subsidizing rentals for teachers keep in monthly payments below 30% of

festival has been going on in golden gate park. 3 day festival starts august 9th. now the senate is still moving forward with plans to ban tiktok in the u.s. members are debating foreign aid legislation. that includes a measure to force the sale of that app or >> have been banned in the u.s. washington correspondent maddie beer-temple reports on what's next. >> senators on both sides of the aisle say they support banning tiktok if its china-based owner bytedance doesn't sell the app. this bill takes the first step to protect u.s. data. supporters of the measure say bytedance is ties to the chinese communist party. put millions of americans personal data at risk and threaten national security. currently the chinese communist party is able to gain unlimited access to the account information of tiktok users. the measure is part of a foreign aid package. the house passed saturday. it gives 95 billion dollars to ukraine, israel and taiwan 1000 gave bytedance more time to sell the app. extending the

>> a southern california man is suing a car dealership after he was pulled over in a loaner car that mistakenly had been reported as being stolen and what happened next was all caught on dash camera video and reporter jennifer mcgraw spoke with the driver about this terrifying ordeal. the orange county auto task force was notified of a stolen vehicle they had under surveillance all morning. >> and they finally made a traffic stop on the freeway all the while. the driver inside completely unaware of why he was being pulled over. >> exactly that day.

>> nowhere near the 80's we had yesterday and we do have the wind out there as well. you can see it's a southerly flow because we've got this low pressure right off the coast. it's kind of tossing that wind our way. and you can see that little counter clockwise circulation swirl right there and notice all the energy that's bringing up into some of the peaks creating as it gets some uplift their little bit of rain. a little bit of lightning and just some disturbances. but for us, it's really could be limited to just cloud cover. and then a little drizzle in the overnight tonight. you can see this as we look at our fog cast, it is going to roll in very similar to last night. we're going to wake up tomorrow morning and it's going to be a little tricky with probably a little bit of drizzle on the roads and certainly some limited visibility, especially i think for those of you along the coast in the north bay temperature wise, we look at san jose's example. obviously we've been hanging out the 60's today will pick it up a little bit tomorrow. but notice we stay cool thursday and friday that we have that chance of a little drizzle coming in by saturday. we will start to see some improvement and it will start to really change the pattern on sunday. >> that's when things really start to kind dry out, warm up a little bit. get us back to where we should be seasonally.

woman in florida had a surprise visitor in her home over the weekend. >> she and her family found this three-legged bear pacing around their home last week. she says the bear broken through a screen of her porch in order to get in the bear got into the fridge. but there was nothing inside. this is not the first time a three-legged bear broke into a central florida home back in september. a bear names, tripod managed to enter a porch and get into the fridge and on a different occasion. tripod allegedly stole white claws from a different family's home. officials have

noted the tripod as one of 3, 3 legged bears known to live in the area. an mma fighter was called to one of his other jobs over the weekend. mike dragic also is a licensed alligator trapper. the jacksonville sheriff's office notified florida fish and wildlife about a gator on the loose in downtown jacksonville and he was able to get there after attending a hockey game. that was just 5 minutes away and headed there to the scene. well, with no equipment and no shoes on, he chased that gator. nab's it. people are in disbelief. this video went viral and so did one from last year when he captured an alligator in a parking lot near an elementary school. no shoes what least pay up i don't know what to say here. i don't know. except it's cloudy out. we're going to be a little cool. everybody. >> and i'm just going to jump right to the 7 day forecast just to kind of show you
