>> what what we know right now is the residual effects still impacting morning traffic. right now. i'm at 101. and oakland, we want to show you the view. you can see the cars, no problems as nothing happened. they have gone past the accident scene. so it is flowing. we're talking the headlights and this direction. southbound 101 does decide seemed to be impacted at all. the accident scene actually is about 2 miles from my location. it's at the 2.80, 101 split. let's go to live cameras just to show you the damage. this happened more than an hour ago about 90 minutes ago. and a lot of people obviously did not know about it. they were heading northbound in the commute direction. southbound counter commute directions. so not impacted. they were running smack dab right into the accident and they started this stack up one mile 2 miles, 3
7:02 am
miles as much as 5 miles of backup on northbound a 101 which probably will take you past heller almost touching morgan hill. as far as how bad accident scene stretched and then we were not too far from that scene. so we took 2.80 and then we saw 2.80, also backed up as a lot of people tried to go around this accident scene and all of a sudden they hit 2.80 as well. and that backed up. your best bet is possibly to take some of the city streets. go past the 2, 1 junction and then get to oakland. a lot of people hopping off the freeway at this location. excuse me, hopping off the city streets at this location. and then you can see so many cars are emerging 101, northbound right here as well. so that's probably your best bet to avoid the scene. >> yes, i know this happened about 90 minutes ago, maybe even longer, but they still have to do with the
7:03 am
investigations. so as far as the morning commute in san jose northbound, it's going to be impacted for quite some time. >> back to you. ok? thanks a lot. let's get some more details about this accident working its way around and those impacts reyna harvey in the traffic center with ryan certainly is backed up. just like will said, you can see north them one-on-one started oakland road there and the backup, at least 5 miles. i'm tracking it to about tully road. if you are traveling this morning. so 85 87 to good alternate for you and a lot of other people have the same thing in mind there. everybody is hopping on. 85 87. you can see there 2.80, i would recommend probably staying away from all that. you could states take that as well. but looking to start to slow down there, too. so if you are traveling this morning, although all lanes are open now, things are still pretty backed up. okay. you also got will slick conditions to deal with out there as you're traveling this morning. now, 30 woman right into the city. so things have been a little slow and go on our bridges gradually building as the morning goes on 70 min. renee

7:06 am
normal time like we normally would. so take a look. this is video. i'll break it all down. so last year, we know over 25,000 oakland a's fans plan to pack out the oakland coliseum as a reverse boycott for teams pending move to las vegas. and this year, organizers from the last dive bar in the oakland, 68 plan to have a block party in the parking lot of the stadium offering live entertainment food drinks and giveaways in the parking lot. normally opens up about 4 hours before the game. but the oakland a's decided this year. well, a parking lot is not going to open up until 2 hours before. so the game is set to start at 707, tonight, which means the gate will open until 5 o'clock, which is right during traffic rush hour. essentially throwing a wrench in the boycotts plans, but also causing a traffic jam near the coliseum, which sits off 8.80, as the time will be. again, 5 o'clock during rush hour. oakland city officials have publicly asked the oakland a's to open the gate earlier as traffic could be a safety concern. and not only is the game going on, but singer and songwriter keyshia cole is
7:07 am
hosting a concert at the arena right next door at the exact same time. so no word the a's as of if they are going to open up those gates earlier. we did reach out to them this morning to see ifothere's a possibility of opening up for hours before like they normally would. but according to organizers of that boycott, they say that they have never in the history of the a's, opened up the gates anytime 4 hours before. so back out here live, we're hoping to hear from those organizers this morning and their stance on it. and then also from the a's. if they plan to open up the gates anytime soon by this morning in oakland, michael thomas story. james, we'll send it back to you. >> it is my honor to introduce to you our new top police officer, chief floyd mitchell. >> and there you heard it. oakland mayor sheng thao formally announcing in introducing the man that she handpicked as the city's new police chief. oakland will soon be headed by chief floyd mitchell. he addressed the
