pop-up showers will be the first to know about it. temperatures are in the 40's to 50's right now. oakland sitting at 53 degrees conquered at 48 degrees. tip around. 47. well, mountain view at 52. definitely cool. and we're not completely out of the woods as far as the rainfall goes. but generally skies will grow clear and dryers the day goes by with just a few isolated showers here and there throughout the day. i'll keep you updated in your full forecast rain. all right, fortunately we have an early morning fatality. it appears that a pedestrian was actually hit and killed. >> vehicle know this is on northbound 101. oakland road off-ramp. down in san jose's. you can see the back of here. looks like it's a few miles inland. if you are traveling this morning, you need to get around a 7 could be an option for you. also, you might want to take 85. you have options. and even 82. but right now avoiding 101. it looks like they're fluctuating between closing all lanes and having at least one lane open. but i would steer clear of 101 for
6:03 am
right now. again, northbound 1, 1, oakland road off-ramp. while this continues to go on after probably undergo that investigation. but 7. 85 82 other options for you this morning. let's also get a look at your bridges if you are going to be traveling this morning soon as we get past, this is a closer look at 101, a bridge under 10 minutes traveling into the city. so no major issues. but remember, it's been great. it's looking wet. 14 minutes on your san mateo bridge. richmond center fell bridge around 8 minutes and the golden gate bridge. 37 to the tolls. 19 minute morning ride during back to you. will you may feel the shift in the area because today is opening day for baseball. yeah, but a's fans are actually going to start off the season with a boycott as we've reported. and as you. >> i'm sure heard they're not too happy with the fact the teams plan to move to las vegas cloud forest. michael thomas is in oakland with the latest. good morning, michael. >> hey, good morning, everyone. that's right. lots of boycotts to be had with that baseball. oakland a's fans plan to pack out the parking lot rather than the

actual stadium this year. the oakland a's will they could park back in civil were not open up those parking lot. gates at the normal time. we normally do. they're going to later. so take a look. we've got video up on your screens. i can break it all down. now, last year we saw over 25,000 fans from the oakland a's show up to pack out oakland coliseum as a reversed boycott for the team's pending move to las vegas. and this year, organizers from the last dive bar in oakland. 68 plan to have a block party in the 80's parking lot. they're going to have live entertainment food and giveaways and the parking lot normally opens up about 4 hours before the game. but the oakland a's decided this year. well, that parking lots not going to open up until 2 hours before the game at around 5 o'clock. the game starts at 7 essentially throwing a wrench in the boycott planned and also costly a traffic jam because the coliseum sits right near 8.80. it's going to be 5 o'clock traffic hour. and in addition, keyshia cole, and singer is having a concert herself at the arena, which is
6:05 am
right next store. so oakland city officials have publicly asked the oakland a's to open up the gates earlier as traffic could be a safety concern. no word from the a's as of yet to making any tpchanges. and organizers for tonight's boycott say they do plan to show up and line up as early as possible. so back out here live, we did reach out to the oakland a's media team for a comment or the possibility of them hopefully opening up those gates earlier. but tonight, if you are over in that area, you can expect some traffic jams because people are going to be lining up to get into that parking lot. again, they're set to open a gate to 5 o'clock. the game starts at 707. well, this morning in oakland, michael thomas story. we'll send it back to you. >> it is my honor to introduce to you our new top police officer, chief floyd mitchell. >> and there you saw oakland, mayor sheng thao formally introducing the man she handpicked as the city's newest police chief oakland

6:07 am
>> job is to continue to do the work to satisfy those requirements. i'm going to sit down with the monitor and identify specifically what we need to do and how we need to do it to get to the end of road. >> well, mitchell swearing-in date will be sometime in the next 30 days. we'll let you know when they finally set an official date. >> time now 606, police in berkeley are investigating after a child was shot in the leg on tuesday night near the intersection of bone, our street and austin way right by cross strawberry creek park. there were several gunshots heard. and when police got there, that's when they found the child who had been shot. they didn't make any arrests. earlier this month. the city of la how found the body of a dead man. and that is the 5th homicide of the year there on march. 16th police were called to garnet circle. it was around midnight it turns out that there was a dead body

museums. >> people worry we have no power over our future. but i that's why i'm running for governor. we have the breadth and the power to make california out of for all of us again. >> that's former state controller betty yee. joining the governor's race. she posted this video announcing her bid to run for governor in 2026. she spent 40 years in public service. some of it as the state's budget director. and now she joins a group of candidates including lieutenant governor eleni kounalakis is state superintendent tony thurmond and state senator tony atkins. governor newsom is currently in his final term. >> well, the race to replace congresswoman anna eshoo could be going to a recount. and we know the former san jose mayor sam liccardo's already secured his place in the november general election. but who he will face in that race. it's still up in the air. we're talking a razor thin difference right now between santa clara county supervisor, joe, some indian and
6:11 am
assemblymember evan low. how big is the difference? just 2 votes. both campaigns are working now to cure ballots, meaning that they're asking voters to fix ballots that may be missing a signature things like that. according to san mateo county officials, there are 525 ballots that still need to be cured by april. 2nd, or they won't be counted. any candidate can ask for a recount. but so far, neither some indian or low have confirmed that they plan to do so see what happens. the 2 brothers attacked by a mountain lion over the weekend near sacramento took the right measures to scare off that big cat. still in this extremely rare case ending in one death of the cougar continue with the deadly attack. biologists. sarah mcdonald with the a for lydia conservation fund says that human encounters with mountain lions are rare. she says you are less likely to come across a cat in the bay area because there are

there. i don't think i could call it hopefully the majority that's gone now. john, good morning. yeah, it's definitely not as as it was last night. ms is a good word for it you to john in just a moment. but i'm gonna tell you about this accident. >> fortunately, we have a fatal traffic collision. this is northbound. 1, 1, oakland road and the backup is about 5 miles inland. so it's all the way back to to about tully road. so right now i'm telling people if you are out there traveling and driving, you need to hit 85 or 87 to navigate around the delays. then a silver lining. if there's anything in this, they have opened up all the lanes of along 101 right now in oakland road. however, the backup is still pretty bad, ok? so i would suggest not taking that staying away. we actually have a live look at the camera right now. currently, you can see the backup and all the red lights as people are inching along, trying their best to make their way. we'll put it up in just a moment. but if you are just waking up this morning, a fatality northbound, 1, one, oakland road and again, backed
6:18 am
up to at least tully road. so this is 5 miles of traffic. we do have a kron four's will tran in route their will is saying that he seen back up for miles and miles away. now, again, we do know this happened in the early morning hours and this has been an issue for a large portion of the morning here. so if you are waking up in the south bay, you want to stay away from 101, northbound. certainly there and opt for 85 87, much better options for you this morning. we'll be following this throughout the morning. right now. let's get a look at your other community of bridges. the 12 minute ride into the city right now. no major issues there, senator. it's just short of 14, 80 to 101, richmond center fell bridge around 9 and the golden gate bridge about 20 minutes now, john, it's super slick out there. so just people to drive a little safer. absolutely. that's the best advice after an evening of rainfall like we didn't have last night, especially up in marine county which saw. >> well over an inch of rainfall in many areas. so the golden gate bridge is indeed wet. just a good idea to give
6:19 am
yourself that extra time. so regardless of any backups, you're just not russian through the slick conditions where we're sitting right now, we do have that first line of showers having well cleared out of the bay. you can see the snow in the sierra still falling and some rain around fresno while the bay area is comparatively quiet right now, a couple of misty spots out there. but mother nature gave us a good dose of rainfall while we're sleeping really working with us on the timing of all of this. now i'm not ruling out the potential of an isolated shower popping up today, including the chance of even a roll of thunder for and east bay. this afternoon. most of us are going to come out today. pretty dry. but we do have that chance. so i'll be keeping an eye on the radar urging you to do so as well. generally getting drier and clear as the afternoon wears on. and today, truly a breather between last night's rain and what we have tomorrow, which is an even more significant system. rainfall pushes back in before you even get up tomorrow morning. we have a wet friday morning commute on tap just around the corner and a very
6:20 am
windy as well. expect the stormy day tomorrow. here's right around noontime and some of our heaviest of rainfall in our strongest of winds right there in the middle of the day, lingering into the evening to with isolated thunderstorm potential continuing on into saturday for some areas, especially early on rainfall tomorrow is going to amount to anywhere between an inch to around a half an inch depending on where you're will add up on a little bit more of that into saturday before generally drying out into sunday just in time for easter. we also have those winds to be concerned about tomorrow between 11:00am friday through 05:00am on saturday. wind advisories for upper elevations in coastal areas gusts as high is 52 even in excess of 60 miles per hour. so watch out for some downed trees, maybe even a few power outages because of that, the sierra not to be overlooked, getting more snowfall with a winter storm warning still in effect and snow continuing through specially early weekend. your best travel day is sunday. if
6:21 am
you're trying to get on the roads friday, please be experienced. ready to go with those chains and expecting delays and possible closures as we see additional feet of snowfall in those higher elevations, this low pressure area that's dover right into the region is sitting with us for now keeping us cooler than average in pretty unsettled for the last few days of march. but look at what we have just around the corner. long range forecast indicating the return of high pressure into next week. and that means that we do see warmer and drier weather around the corner. for now, we do have a brief break from the rain upper 50's to low 60's today. tomorrow our rainiest day of the forecast chance of thunderstorms on saturday and staying cool after that, it's pretty much all uphill by tuesday and wednesday of next week were back to the 70's and sunshine during james. thanks a lot. kron 4 is your local election headquarters and we're profiling the top challengers in the san francisco mayor's race. and this morning we look at the candidate who once sat in the mayor's seat for 6 months cropper stephen lynn.
6:22 am
>> sat down with mark farrell about what he plans to do if he gets the job back. over the past 5 years, i've seen our city crumbled candidate mark farrell, not mincing words over the problems he says are plaguing san francisco. san francisco used to be the greatest place in the world to raise family. >> today is not the same. people do not feel safe in their own neighborhoods, let alone downtown the conditions are streets have never been worse on our local economy has suffered as a result. you know, we are now the of jokes across our country. and that should not be the case. theo venture capitalist stepping back into the ring. >> with city politics where he previously served for 8 years first as district 2 supervisor, which includes the marina pacific heights, presidio heights and north of the panhandle. and serving 6 months as mayor after the death of ed lee and 2017. a key point farrell says that sets him apart from the competition. we don't have time for someone to come learn
6:23 am
on the job. we need someone's going hit the ground running on day one. if you are elected mayor, what do you plan to accomplish in your first 30 days? i do believe we need a new police chief. we have lost budget dollars and we can't recruit. >> police officers. so we need a change in leadership promoting what he describes as a 0 tolerance policy on crime while promising to shield the city's public safety services from budget cuts. my budget plan. >> this year, include the addition of 250 new officers. we need to recruit additional officers transfer officers. we need to bring reppert hard officers. >> we also need to flood our police academy with new classes. then we start to get to work on local economic issues. i fully believe we need. we need to use tax incentives to bring employers back to the downtown core. my background includes over 20 years in the private sector. i know what it is to make payroll. i know what it is to see. companies do well and suffer. adding he'll clear all tent encampments in the city within a year as mayor before.
6:24 am
>> i took out all over large tent encampments within 6 months. if elected mayor again, i will do it again. i asked farrell if he's in favor of encampment sweeps given the city's ongoing legal battles, i would characterize sweeps. we treat these individuals with respect with compassion. we offer them shelter and housing. but if they refused our offer services, we will not make it convenient for them. no one is getting better by sleeping in tents and night on the streets of san francisco. this has to stop. this challenge are coming out of the gates swinging. look, san francisco is suffering and what we don't have is any vision out of city hall right now. so as mayor london breed fit to be mayor in 2025, yes or no, no. mayor breed has a great personal story. no doubt about that. but right now, she also has a track record. 6 years of failed leadership inside of city hall. san francisco needs a reboot in san francisco. stephanie lin kron. 4 news. its 6.24. and coming up, beachgoers are

6:28 am
get stung by them. so avoid touching them. although experts say that generally they're not considered dangerous. >> that's just good rule of thumb for anything morrow led wildlife be while that's you know what? i try to teach my kids and tell everyone they can cause some skin irritation. it's pretty mild. but, you know, don't want get too close to for people in sensitive skin. generally, you know, you want to keep your pets clear of him to because you never know what will happen if if they ingest them. so just look at him, take some they're really, really cool for sure. >> well, the creature gets its nickname by, as you can see there, the that sales type of structure on its but it's really their only method of transportation hits that structure that catches the wind and gets them to move. >> time now 6.28. and coming up next on the kron, 4 morning news. doctors warning parents about a rise in a highly contagious respiratory

6.30, right now. we've got breaking news in to kron. 4, 1, person has died after being hit by a vehicle on highway 101 in san jose got kron four's will tran on the story for us from that area. good morning. well, >> james, i'm just past the accident scene. 101 is right behind me. you can see those headlights. those cars are heading northbound for them to get this location. they must have waited in traffic for very long time because the accident is right behind me.
6:32 am
northbound 101 just past the 2.80, junction. here's what you need to know. you might want to avoid this area all together and take the surface streets because we drove the city streets on 2.80, from the city streets. the 2.80 looked over and we saw the backup, which is why we went on onto the city streets to get to this location on the overpass of oakland. just to show you the scene, let me give you some live cameras so you can see the backup is stretches, possibly for miles as a lot of people. and this is the kid new direction on northbound southbound is the counter commute directions. so they are heading towards the heart of silicon valley. the airport in that particular area and they're running smack dab into this scene. it is so bad, james in duryea that when we took to 80 and then hopped off onto the city streets to ad started to get backed up as well as a lot of people are
6:33 am
hoping to avoid 101 and then try to hop on to 80 and reconnect at another area. it's having residual impact on 2.80, as well. so you might want to at least wait a little while if you possibly can for this to clear up or if you possibly can do what we did, tried to take the city streets, get to my location and oakland and then will swing the camera here. if you're heading towards northbound, you can make a left turn those tail lights. those are obviously cars that have gone past us. and as you can clearly not a problem there. we're going to move a little bit closer to the scene, trying to find out exactly what happened and show you the backup. exactly where it's taking place. but those cars right behind me. i can tell you they sat in traffic for very long time as 2.80. is about 2 or 3 miles from my location. that to one split back to you. >> so this details, well, ok, so if you want the best way to
6:34 am
get around this, we've got rain. harvey with more on our team coverage in the traffic center right now. good morning to if you are traveling this morning again, northbound one on an open road is where this incident happened. so 85 87, you're too good options for staying away. >> from the back of the delays like will is talking about a long 101, and 2.80, seeing a little congestion starting to build along 2.80, this morning. but again, 87 85 going alternate for you. okay. if you are going to be traveling along other highways, things are very slick this morning. so no major delays along the bay bridge, 14 minutes of traffic to use to build mateo bridge around 14 minutes. ad 101. checking on that. richard somerville bridge about 15 minutes there and the golden gate bridge. 37 of the tolls, 20 minutes now. a lot of rain overnight, john. so people shouldn't be rushing this morning. yeah. get advice morning that it's drying out. but after a pretty wet evening last night. >> definitely still some puddles out there. still some very slick spots, too. right
6:35 am
now outside from the happen bay camera right here. you can see a little peek of sunshine in there. temperatures today are going to be fairly mild under that sunshine. maybe. we'll get to that happening in the ap cameron here in just a second. otherwise skies today are going to be pretty favorable for getting outside with drying conditions. more and more as we move into the afternoon where we're sitting on radar right now. pretty quiet. don't rule out an isolated shower at points later on today. we'll be keeping you updated if i do see any pop-up showers moving overhead. temperatures in the 40's to 50's conquered and boy, how at 48 degrees. oakland sitting at 53 right now. later on, we'll get to the 60's. as i mentioned, chance of an isolated shower, but definitely on the drier trend of weather for the rest of the day. back to you. >> all right. thanks. a lot of 6.35. and on the peninsula. a quiet bay-area beach community is rattled by a shooting that happened yesterday morning. now we've got the civic police say they were forced to kill a
