>> they've been waiting for that arrest. now going on 2 years. this poor san francisco family after a deadly shooting at a playground. good evening, everybody. thanks for joining us on kron. 4 news at 11. i'm grant lotus and i'm noelle bellow. police are now offering a quarter of a million dollars for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the shooters. in question, kron four's sara stinson visited the park today. she joins us now in studio sarah. >> the family of brandon cheeses hopefuls, the increased reward will bring them a long-awaited justice after what's been an extremely hard 2 years for the first time, his sister is ready to talk about what happened to her brother. the metal fence along alice chalmers playground in san francisco remains bent from bullets. it was 2 years ago on a sunday afternoon when shots rang out. >> killing 20 year-old karen carlson and 22 year-old brandon cheese. he touched so

many lives. brandon sister sylvia lopez often visits the area to honor him where a memorial continues to evolve. even his elementary school teacher. >> seeing that she remembered him. i think it speaks volumes to the kind of person. my brother was. lopez takes us back to april 3rd 2022. when she found out her brother was killed. >> calling it the worst day of her family's lives like this can't be. was just like the most terrible. >> agonizing pain. >> police say they're looking for at least 2 men involved all got away in a silver honda accord this week, police increased the reward to $250,000 for information that leads to an arrest. we want justice. >> i want these people behind bars. they don't deserve to be out and free and living their lives. when my brothers gone, brandon worked as a private security guard. he was also a

barber. lopez says her brother was the most generous person he would even go downtown san francisco and and put all his equipment in his car in the trunk and he would cut hair for free because that's the kind of person he was. >> brandon leaves behind 3 sisters, a mom and dad as well as his 4 year-old daughter. the family says they desperately want closure. we were robbed of so many beautiful memories and hurt for my parents. >> the pain that they're feeling the pain, my nieces, you know, having to deal with. i hate that she has to deal with this. i hate that. she why can't just come home? >> next week marks 2 years since these men were killed at the playground. brandon's family plans to gather there with candles and flowers to honor the 2. if you have any information at all about this case, you're asked to call the san francisco police department. i'm sara stinson reporting back to you.

>> our crews out to the little girl. thank you, sir. as we take a live look outside on this wednesday night. it has been a rainy one here in the bay area live look at sfo. a very wet wednesday evening. laurent says the rain's going to stick around for a little while, right? yeah, sure is at least through the evening tonight and then begin to taper off of the showers. but it's been coming down pretty good. some of the mountain tops now just about an inch of rain and some of the coastal range is so its slick out there on the roads, be careful driving around the bay area tonight. tomorrow. well, we're going to see some sunshine, some passing clouds and some occasional showers more widespread around the bay area. looks like tonight will be the main event. the cold front now moving through the bay area. bringing rain here. >> snow up in the sierra nevada. but boy, it's been coming down in spots. now. you can see that line storms rolling on through really started to pick up in the evening hours. the main front began to move in. and here's where we sit now. so those bands of rain moving on through right now and more on the way as we head about the

midnight hour, then we'll begin to taper off. but still, you're looking the stronger bands moving in along the coastline right now to san francisco in the parts of the south, san francisco, also the half moon bay. also in the and the south bay. you're going to see more showers continuing there as we head through the evening 7 to get some more rain coming your way now. and that will be the case. we have a cold front coming through behind that. yeah. turning more towards scattered showers won't be a rain out tomorrow, but maybe a couple of pop-up showers. but then we get ready for more significant storm system. we will time that out for you coming up in a few minutes. >> florence, thank you. developing news pg and e is making progress in restoring power to more than 500 customers in san francisco. the outage was first reported around 8.30 this evening. it included more than 4,000 customers originally pg and e says a downed wire at 12th avenue north of and street is to blame. it's not clear what caused that wire to fall. but as you can see, there's still some customers with their power out. no estimated time

of restoration. but clearly they are working on it. >> a quiet bay-area beach community has been rattled by gunfire. pacifica police say they were forced to shoot and kill a mother after they say she shot her son. the shots first rang out this morning around 8 o'clock on francisco boulevard. kron four's dan thorn reports. >> that investigation is underway in pacifica after a tragedy between a mother and her son. police say a man called 9-1-1 wednesday morning and said he was shot by his mom in their home. officers rushed to the apartment francisco boulevard and encountered the mother who they say was trying to drive away. police say the woman then pointed a gun at them officer opened fire and killed her ice heard >> bunch of gunshots. i think over at least half a dozen neighbors sua says at first she thought the sound was firecrackers. >> but after learning about

what happened, she was dumbfounded if she shot her son trying to kill him. >> i'm sorry for her. but something. something's wrong with her. you your child. >> investigators say the son was found with one gunshot wound and was later taken to the hospital. he is expected to be okay. neighbors tell us they've lived in this quiet beach town for a long time and have never heard of anything like anytime somebody dies. it right. to get some pretty. >> i mean, i feel safe up to the beach every day and >> pacifica police say none of their officers were injured. and so far no names have been released. it's also unclear what happened between this mother and son before the shooting in pacifica. dan thorn kron. 4 news. >> the 21 year-old west point cadet from pleasanton has died in a drowning. having morris was on leave. he was in fort

lauderdale, florida at the time. and police say no foul play is suspected. the fort lauderdale police department says army investigators are now working with them. morris's family has been notified and the casualty assistance officer with the ppmilitary has been appointed t support them. a spokesperson for the pleasanton unified school district sent us this statement saying, quote, we are saddened by the loss of one of our former amador valley high school alumnus. our hearts go out to the morris family and those who haven't touched the lives of during this difficult time. and this statement from the amador valley principal tonight, quote, as a student at amador valley haven't is thought of with fondness and admiration by all of his former teachers, his passing his deeply affected our community and our thoughts and prayers are with the morris family during this difficult time. new at 11 santa clara county sheriff's deputies have arrested 2 suspects in a stanley cup robbery. not the

trophy. >> the big cups. it happened back in january at the target store on stevens creek boulevard and cupertino. deputies say 26 year-old kevin torres crews jumped over the counter of the starbucks inside the store and grab the stanley cup from behind the counter. a customer who was waiting in line to purchase their own stanley blocked the exit and tackled torres crews to prevent him from leaving his girlfriend, though. 24 year-old hazel domingues vera punch that customer and the 2 thieves got away. the pair have both now been charged with robbery. >> the family of a couple shot and killed in dublin says they're worried about how the alameda county district attorney is handling the case. family members of maria and venice and tran were outside court today as a former alameda county sheriff's deputy faced a judge. police say devin williams shot and killed the couple september of 2022. in their home in dublin, williams faces 50 years to life if convicted. but da

pamela price asked the judge to dismiss enhancement charges which could have made williams eligible for parole. the judge denied the motion which came as a relief to maria sister. >> the judges is good. he knows about the case in u.s. history, but he's saying to be doing the right thing. and i said i'm extremely grateful for what he has done. but is now up to the a price to do the right thing and to bring justice to our family and the community. >> the suspects williams is scheduled to make another court appearance tomorrow afternoon. >> mountain lion attacks against humans are incredibly rare. why one expert says the chances of one happening in the bay are highly unlikely. >> plus, a fast food wage hike is coming to workers in california next week. but some businesses are exempt and oakland's next police chief addresses the community for the first time the priorities he has for the department. c

>> oakland soon-to-be chief arrests addressed city and community leaders today about his plans to tackle the big challenges that the city faces. floyd mitchell says he plans on building public trust and creating a safer community. >> just really going to be me getting my getting here, getting on the ground and getting out to me. everyone here getting to know who my council members are getting to know who are the movers and shakers within the organization getting to know my command staff getting to know their abilities, getting to know the police department and where we can get better and how we go about getting better. you want to make oakland police department b

the employer of choice for the bay area. you want your officers know that they're going to be supported and and that you're going to take care of them both from a benefit going to see them as a person. >> crime does continue to plague oakland. the police department is also currently still being monitored by federal officials due to a case from 20 more than 20 years ago where officers were caught planting evidence and mitchell says he wants to get the city out of that relationship. >> a job is to continue to do the work to satisfy those requirements and working with my team to make sure that we do everything that we're supposed to do to satisfy those requirements. i'm going to sit down with the monitor and identify specifically what we need to do and how we need to do it to get to the end of road. >> mitchell is set to be sworn in sometime in the next 30 days.

>> by weather tight here as we get a live look check out the bay bridge toll plaza slick roads and some people making their way through. as we look ahead to another bigger storm set to roll into the bay area couple days now warrants what's happening. very active pattern right now. the good news is i think as we get through these last 2 storms, that may be it for quite a while. this may be the last significant series of storms of the season, but out there now that rain has been coming down all around the bay area. the high country. again, a lot of snow out of this going to careful traveling in the high country tonight into the weekend as well as we've got a storm system moving chaining up on 80 likely see some chains needed on 50 is well, it's going to turn to more showers as we head toward tomorrow. but winter storm warnings are up through the night tonight. 11 o'clock in the morning. >> on thursday, expecting maybe one, maybe 2 feet of snow across some of the higher peaks. but it's just going to keep going. a tail off a bit tomorrow, but then that snow rolls in with some gusty winds

on friday. more snow could be heavy at times on saturday, too out there right now. we've got the golden gate bridge looking pretty slick out there right now as the rain continues to fall. but the front begins sag a little further south now. and you can moving south along the peninsula now stretching into parts of the bay and across the bay as well. you've got pockets of moderate, some heavier amounts of rainfall associated with that as well. more showers continuing concord and lafayette, san ramon. you're seeing some scattered light showers, a little broken, little rain shadow effect in towards san jose and sunnyvale. but the likely pick up a little rain as that front does move in their direction, too. on long range forecast. we've got the front moving through overnight tonight. tomorrow. yeah, we'll see some sunshine tomorrow. couple of scattered pop up showers. maybe maybe couple rainbows. if you're lucky. but you see the big green blob off the coastline. that's the next storm system that is now just really developing. he's going to tense fight approaches the coastline. and there you go. you've got that big swirl right up the coastline of the bay area. and that is going to generate some winds. may we're talking some 40 plus mile an hour gusts along the

coastline. that may be some thunderstorms as we get in towards saturday. a lingering showers possibly on sunday to temperatures for tomorrow. going to be mostly cool. 5 50's and some 60's next couple days. we're going to keep things unsettled. bigger storm on the way. i expect that through the day on friday, probably taper off more showers by friday night. just some thunderstorms also in the afternoon on friday into saturday, too. so yeah, we're ending hearts and the very west side, i think next week. look at that. we've got some 70's out there that's going make some people happy. yeah, i you know, this 3rd winter. >> that word entering right now. we want it to be over. you don't want number 4 okay. threes enough. okay. i think ok? >> alright, starting monday. minimum wage for fast-food workers in california will go up to 20 bucks an hour. >> and while that is something worth celebrating for many workers, it is also triggering some fears of job cuts for other folks. pizza hut and roundtable. for instance, have
