think they mean any business today. >> yeah, these high clouds, they're just going to stay there and watch just a little bit tomorrow is when we're going to be looking at the rainfall making its way back in tomorrow, thursday, friday and even saturday looking likely to be kind of wet days. so the whole tail end of the week this morning, though, not so bad. we've had a little bit of cloud cover up there. you can see above the east bay hills, but also some peeks of sunshine this morning. already skies dry across the bay area. we did see some overnight snowfall in the sierra just a few inches up there about to be seeing a whole lot more snowfall starting tomorrow afternoon up there. temperatures right now are in the 40's to 50's a few 30's in the north bay like a pin nap at 38 degrees right now. calistoga at 37. don't forget the jackets as you're getting out there. temperatures later on today, though, mid to upper 60's doesn't sound so bad at all, especially with all the sunshine will be tapping into right. all right, john, thank you for that. all of this morning. if you are starting now. >> thankfully, no accidents or hazards on our bridges this

morning. meteor lights are on in the bay bridge. so that slowing you down just a little bit about 16 minutes traveling into the city, san mateo bridge just short of 19 minutes, a 80 to 101 heading across towards peninsula here at the center fell bridge around 13 minutes. and let's start on the golden gate bridge. 37 to the tolls. 23 minutes. >> advise entire bridge entire key bridge in the harbor. i've i've whole lot traffic from coming through the bridge. again, the entire bridges fall into the harbor. >> but there was traffic. there were cars on the bridge when it went down was hit by the container ship and now they're searching for people in the water. and that's the big breaking news this morning. a major bridge in baltimore. you see it there with your own eyes collapsing into the water at that action after that container ship struck one of the support pillars about one 30 or so this morning. >> they're in baltimore and again, just tragedy here at the bridge where officials have issued a state of

emergency there calling this a developing mass casualty event. and now we want to show you live pictures here of the bridge and that cargo ship still there in amidst all that twisted time is to get away because the waters are freezing cold. >> and this happened like you said at one 30 in the morning, their time 2 people were able to be pulled out of the water that we know of. and one is in the hospital fighting for their life. but there could be up to 7 other people in the water because there was a construction crew on the bridge when this giant ship just hit. here's what rescuers had to say earlier this morning. >> that there were likely multiple people on the bridge at the time of the collapse and that as a result, multiple people were in the water. we have a large area that we have to search. this includes on the surface of the water, subsurface. >> as well as on the deck of the ship itself. >> so once again, there's the video this morning. obviously

kron 4 news at a tech attorney from oakland is on that short list proper as michael thomas following the story in the newsroom. hey, michael. >> hey, good morning, everyone. there are rumors right now that rfk junior is set to name california tech attorney and philanthropists, nicole shanahan as his running mate in one big clue is that she grew up in oakland where this announcement is set to happen later this morning. shanahan is the ex-wife of google co-founder, sergey brin, and she's got deep pockets and powerful connections. and last month she showcased that when she helped pay for kennedy's 4 million dollar super bowl ad. we spoke with a rf jk ahead of today's announcement who said he would not confirm anything when it came to his running mate, but he described the short list of potential running mates, his colorful. we also asked him about his family members that have been very vocal in public about supporting joe biden. take a listen to his response. >> men, many members of my family ardis this made or troubled by my running against him. i think large numbers of

and an employee at an oakland laundromat is speaking out now after she was violently attacked. >> and it was all caught on camera. take a look at the video. you can see 2 women harassing 65 year-old. ruth, the wild and this goes on for about 8 minutes. it was on march 16th at what is a laundromat near lake merritt. 2 women dragged her outside punch or that went back inside and kept punching her grabbed by the collar. she says that she didn't really think she's going to make it. >> my mind like, all this is they're going to become ball. i don't will become law. >> so you could do that to a really posting. no one is safe and >> and what happened was the police responded and they cited the attackers and then release them. russi believes that the citations are basically a slap on the wrist. the owners of the business say their business has been

hurting ever since covid so they can't afford to hire a security company. >> well, happening tomorrow, oakland's new police chief floyd mitchell will be formally introduced to the community is expected to start the job in late april early may. he has his work cut out for him as we know, 18 murders have been reported in oakland so far this year and recent crime stats show that robberies are actually up. 34 1% over last year. major majority actually happening at gunpoint. so violent crime is up. mitchell is going to be moving from texas where he was the police chief there in lubbock. we did speak to somebody who has seen mitchell at work there in texas and he says he's actually got a good impression of him. >> he's a bridge builder. he's going to come in in ask questions, see what the community would like to see what the community don't like, you know, and feel a little boys. >> he's a man that will come in love on love in your community. a lot like you live there forever.

>> executive director of the texas police chiefs association says that mitchell is a dynamic leader and his emphasis on addressing the underlying causes of crime through strong officer community engagement sets him apart. >> in the east bay berkeley woman is accused of stabbing her mother to death. she's expected in court to enter a plea this week last sunday, heather riemer was found fatally stabbed in the apartment she shared with her daughter this is on university avenue between san pablo ave and sacramento street. gabriel is currently being held without bail at the santa rita jail in dublin. her plea hearing is 09:00am. this thursday we're now hearing more from the loved ones of the family who was killed while they were standing waiting for a bus to take them to the zoo. >> and san francisco's west portal car struck the family killing all 4 of them and relatives have send us out this statement saying, quote,

diego and matilda were warm and loving parents who had a deep love for their beautiful children and enjoyed nothing more than spending time with their 2 little boys and they go on to say. the rest of the statement was that they appreciate the support for the family of 4 who all gone to parents and 2 children, a one year-old and a 2 month-old baby who died in this accident when suv hit the bus stop where they were waiting. relatives say that the organs of the youngest child of been donated to help save the lives of others. and authorities say the driver of that suv. 78 year-old mary fong lau at this point is not facing any charges. >> happening today, berkeley bicycle and pedestrian safety advocates are going to be speaking out at the evening's city council. meeting advocates are asking the council to approve more money for pedestrian safety after a victim was hit and killed by a car last month walk bike berkeley urging the city to

that burned a down over the weekend. this fire broke out sunday afternoon in a home on alameda de la aloma. authorities arrested amy lewis. they say they think she's the one who lit something on the upper port entrance and caused that fire and caused significant damage. the homeowners were away and they told police they don't even know who lewis is. she has been arrested on suspicion of felony arson. the concord police and the chp and the also office of traffic safety are going to be out today, educating concord, high school students about the dangers of drinking and driving today. and tomorrow they're going to have a crash. simulation in the school's gym. it's part of the 15 minutes program that teaches students about alcohol related crashes. they call it that because every 15 minutes somebody in the u.s. is injured or killed in an alcohol related accident. well, for your health this morning, a growing number of women are reporting unexpected pregnancies while taking the weight loss medication owes

assaulting a minor in 2002 2003 when he was a teachers have been identified as sean thomas. he was working as a track and field coach at los gatos high school when he was arrested last week. but before that, he was a teacher at lake hrgh school at the time of the alleged assault. the san jose police have a message for possible victims and survivors. >> we here j p to want to let survivors know that it is okay to come forward to detectives. we're here to hear you. we are here too. make sure that the suspect is held accountable and put behind bars so that predators don't go after children. >> in a statement kron 4, the campbell school district, a high school district, says they're cooperating with the investigation and the safety of their students is paramount. >> well, and police are trying to figure out how a body ended up in a creek. that body was found. it was a 38 year-old man who was a resident of antioch. they discovered it just below the highway for

on-ramp behind this slatten ranch shopping center. police say foul play was ruled out, but the cause of death is still under investigation. so awaiting that. >> very do you find someone in a in the area that's not heavily populated regular foot traffic. what regular vehicle traffic, where you where that someone might. frequent on a regular basis. and it's kind of out of the way, obviously, to the coroner's office. they're going to wait for the toxicology results and take a deeper look into. any existing medical history that this individual might have that. >> officials say the man had not been reported missing. >> time now 7 32 and in the north bay, there's a homeowner pretty shaken up because somebody vandalized their ukrainian flag that was hag outside their home. one of 2 flags targeted over the weekend. valley police now investigating this as a hate crime and kron 4. sarah stinson shows us why. >> police say someone spray

painted swastikas on ukrainian flags at 2 homes in mill valley. the affected neighbors already replaced their flags. i spoke with the owner of this home. he says he's deeply disturbed, especially as a jewish man. >> but to see it as watch the got your front lawn is just something that is beyond terrible. it's the motion. i'm sorry, it's it's emotional. can walk tell got choked up when talking about the vandalism that happened. >> at his mill valley home on saturday, he was out town when he got an e-mail with pictures showing a swastika spray painted on the ukrainian flag on his property. nothing can. take that from my from my mind. wachtell has lived in this home for 40 years. he has previously served on city council and as valley, he says such an act of hate does not represent his city it wrong because this greeting somebody's property. it's wrong because the swastika this not belong in our community. >> and it's wrong because we

support ukraine anything like that just wrong and all different live levels. ukrainian flags were also spray painted. that walk tells neighbor's house down the road on the leno avenue. >> police are investigating both incidents as a hate crime. no valley's police chief put out a statement saying his department stands firm with the city against all hate and discrimination, distraught but not discourage. wachtell says he now plans to put up more flags were not only but one flag up, but now put too. >> and we're not going to be cowed by it's not going affect us is that could affect their legions ukraine. it is something i'll never forget as long as i live. >> wachtell says he plans to speak at a city council soon about this hate crime. police are asking anyone who lives in this mill valley neighborhood to take a look at your surveillance cameras. see if you can help identify the vandals. i'm sara stinson reporting in mill valley. back to you. >> making. council member

jordan. remember tatum yes, ice merlo past. yes, the motion carries. >> and with that, the city of albany has joined a growing list of bay area cities calling for a cease-fire in gaza. the city council held a special meeting last night and unanimously passed their cease-fire resolution. the east bay city is taking a slower approach than others. they first created a committee to discuss and write up a resolution which was then followed by several public meetings when his mayor thanked the community for keeping the process civil. >> time now 7.35 and the u.s. department of justice wants to seize property belonging to sherri papini for failing to pay restitution back in 2022. puppy was sentenced to 18 months behind bars in order to pay $309,000 restitution because she was convicted of faking her own kidnapping in 2016 as a last check. papini had only paid off about $600

of that restitution. so now the justice department wants to add a 10% surcharge to the unpaid fine meeting. the total she would do now is over $340,000. 7.36. right now and take a look at all of this. that was seized in from a pot shop. police found illegal items at a smoke shop. sorry. it was a smoke shop on international boulevard near seminary avenue, but they've a lot of a large amount of illegal cannabis you could see displayed here. also, crystal meth and flavored tobacco products. no arrests have been made. this bus was part of the department's special investigation into smoke shops. >> 7.36 is the time happening today. tenant advocacy groups in antioch plan to hold a rally ahead of the city council meeting tonight. the council is considering creating a just cause eviction ordinance that would add protections for renters advocates of the ordinance say it would protect renters from

no-fault evictions and prevent some families from experiencing homelessness. advocacy groups are also planning to show up at that meeting to share their experiences. cities like richmond have already established just cause eviction ordinances. >> time now 7.37, and more affordable housing is coming to fremont. they're going to use 34 million dollars to build about 450 low-income rental units. that money is going to be divided into 3 projects to promote geographic diversity with the affordable housing. the first project will be located on fremont avenue in the centreville district. and that will be about 150 units. then the second project with 240 units will be on warm springs boulevard. that's in the worst districts. and then the 3rd project we'll be in the downtown district and that will have 96 affordable housing units. >> well, east bay congressman mark mark, the is leading a communitywide effort now to protect air quality and the community's health. he hosted
