and the city of oakland now the chain's corporate office says this tough decision came as it continue to deal with constant car break-ins, property damage in armed robberies along oakland's hegenberger corridor, adding that the issues created an unsafe environment for both customers and employees. yesterday was the last day than in now burger was made in the city of oakland and we heard from one of its former employees who says they feel like it's just another loss for the town. >> is a great play here. i mean, especially when i was here, the warriors was still hear. the latest was still here. everybody would come here after those just said it's closing down got to move on. you know, that's what we can do. >> in a statement in and out, coo says, quote, we're grateful for the local community which has supported us for over 18 years. and we recognize that this closure negatively impacts our associates and their families. this location remains a busy and profitable one for the company. but our top priority

must be the safety. and this may be in announce first closure leaving the area, but it's not the first for other businesses to abandon oakland's hegenberger corridor. dennis closed its doors last month. there. and just this month recently taco bell announced it would no longer be opening up its dining room to customers. last week city leaders did announce that they have a new plan to confront the crime there in the corridor which stretches from oakland airport, 2 international boulevard. they're set to be increased patrols by both oakland police and california highway patrol. and that's said to be done 7 days a week. the city is also in vet investing. excuse me, 2 million dollars to help businesses hire private security guards and install security cameras. so those looking to get that and now burger, if you are in the oakland area, you will now need to head over to alameda or san leandro to get the closest to that's a very latest here in the newsroom. i'm michael thomas started. james, we'll send it back to thank you, michael. its and happening now, health care workers at seton medical

center in daly city are on a two-day strike. union leaders there are demanding more pay. they also want better. >> care for patients crawford's will trend live there at the picket line with more on what they're saying. well. >> here's what you need to know. these nurses are not inside, but they're outside and they will be here for 2 days. if you are a patient, here's what you need to know. they are only handily emergency services. it is very hard for them to find 460 workers. so only emergency services. if you have elective services, for example, if you needed a mole removed say on wednesday, that is not an emergency and then they will reach out to you to reschedule your appointment. in the meantime, you can see the workers right here. this is not an indefinite strike. they don't want to go back in unless they get what they're looking for, a pay raise and better health care. that's the irony. they work in health care, but they say they don't

receive the health care that they're looking for that oftentimes they have to go out of network and that cost them a lot of money. now we've got a chance talk to both sides of this argument. you can see and hear how loud it is right now. here are both sides of the argument on why they should be working. offered a 16% salary increase to the members under and uh, w. >> we have a free health plan that we provide to their employees. it's a anywhere anytime coverage. the 16% would bring us up to county san msteo county hospital. we have done. >> multiple wage freezes it within the years with all of seton struggles. and so we're well behind what having a hard time with attrition and keeping people retain. >> so the employees are saying oftentimes, if they have imaging that they need to go to a specialist that costs them out of pocket so that

health care is not as good as advertised by seton medical center, seton medical center would like to both sides to get back to the bargaining table. but right now nothing is planned. and i mentioned these workers. they would like to be on an indefinite strike because they are looking for a new deal. but they did tell their bosses this will only last for 2 days and they will be back at work come wednesday. >> all right. we'll thank you very much. it's 906. and in san francisco, another car has slammed into a bus stop. it was near golden gate park and one person who was standing there was injured. and this comes a week after a whole family of 4 was killed when a car hit them. they were waiting at a bus stop to go to the zoo and now people who live in san francisco's in richmond district are worried about safety. and there you see the car. now, this crash happened saturday afternoon about 5 o'clock at fulton street per per city. a look see that sign. luckily it hit that pole. first because of a

person was standing behind the poll. they were taken to hospital. he has head injuries and a witness says if it had hit the pole, that car could have injured or or worse, many people that were at that bus stop. the driver was cited at the scene for multiple violations and now the community is demanding the city do more to protect pedestrians. connie chan is the supervisor for the district where this latest crash happened. and she says she's urging the mayor in the u.s. mta to speed up a safety improvement plan. and that includes to speed cameras along fulton street. but a woman who is challenging her for that supervisor seat says that really physical barriers would do more to protect people. absolutely unacceptable. >> there's not enough that we can be doing in terms of policy in design change i were in charge would be putting in bollards tonight. unfortunately, that's not happening. we need better. traffic enforcement in our streets need to be designed to keep kids to keep people safe.

otherwise this is just going to keep happening. >> the sfmta is doing a speed study right now along the fulton corridor. they say that will be done by june. the organization, richmond seth, is advocating for the city to lower the speed limit on fold street. right now is 30 miles an hour. they wanted down. 25. >> 2 people are shot and killed over the weekend inside a house in san francisco's portola neighborhood. a 9-1-1 call sent police to the area of dwight street and san bruno avenue at about 8.45 sunday night. that's where officers found 2 adults dead at the scene. homicide detectives have now taken over the case. no arrests have been made, but we'll keep you updated. meanwhile, new this morning, the california highway patrol has issued an ebony alert for a missing east palo alto teenager. you can see her photo there on the screen. it's 16 nia maxey. she was last seen february 24th at about 10:00pm along for ben a drive and guard dennis way that's in east palo alto. she

stands 5 feet. one inches tall. about 110 pounds. you see she has black hair, brown eyes. she was last seen wearing a black top and black pants. authorities looking for her. listen to this. in alameda, santa clara, sacramento, los angeles and orange counties. so they've got a wide net. anybody who knows where maxey is, please call 9-1-1 immediately. they're searching for her. >> time now is 909 and we have new details about a united flight that was more than 17 hours delayed on friday, leaving sfo. so what happened? well, was supposed to go from sfo to aspen, but skywest airlines, which was operating the united flight, says that this delay was caused because of potential issue with the plane's brakes. and once they were sure that the brakes were working, then the flight was able to take off and head from sfo to aspen. but listen to this. these poor people when they landed aspen, there's overcrowding on the runway and they had to delay getting off

the plane, which they got to ask than that. that was the longest flight on record probably desk, but for as a photo has consulted home a national canine 10 is the time. another aviation news. we have boeing ceo dave calhoun. >> stepping down at the end of the year. the commercial plane maker is under pressure right now. the major airlines that want to know how the company plans to fix problems with its manufacturing process. the company builds planes like the 7.37. max for alaska airlines that have that door plug fly off mid-flight earlier this year. faa investigators say the bolts that keep those door plugs in place. >> happening tonight, part of the richmond sandra fell bridge is going to be closed because they are doing repairs. caltrans is going to be starting 7 o'clock tonight. they're going to close the 2 far left lanes westbound on 5.80, over the richmond, sandra fell bridge overnight because they're going to be doing some repairs on the upper deck. traffic is going to move over to the shoulder.

>> 9.14, right now and we're checking out the weather. we've got a couple of different forecast is keeping john on his toes start keeping exciting. john, good morning. yet this spring is not settling down just yet. we're still looking at a very active forecast ahead of us active into march. an active start to april ahead, we're sitting across the bay right now. you do have a little bit of cloud cover out there. but today is actually going to be one of our dry ones of the forecast looking outside. we do see that weekend system moving out resulting in some pretty big impacts across the rest of the country. but leaving us behind with a little breather between our next round of rainfall. and obviously what we have this weekend, which was some pretty decent shower activity today will be a little bit calmer than yesterday. a few passing clouds, but mostly sunny this afternoon, tomorrow's actually going to be one of the warmest and driest days your forecast. so tuesday, in particular, a good day to be getting out there come wednesday. we may be

starting the day dry, but showers arrive during wednesday afternoon into thursday morning. rainfall throughout the course of the day on friday, likely to be the rainiest day of the forecast followed by a few more showers into early saturday and for the sierra some snowfall, the kick off the weekend. so if you can get to the road early on thursday, probably a better chance for you to actually enjoy that snow come friday up there already now for the bay area will see around an inch of rainfall likely for the remainder of this week. again, that kicks off wednesday afternoon. the start of the week in the meantime is nice and dry and pretty comfortable today. those calmer winds will definitely make the coast feel a little bit less chilly while temperatures in the low 60's across the bay shore paired with mostly sunny skies will be feeling really nice later today. san jose at 63 for your high low 60's right across the east bay with dublin right at 60 degrees. oakland at 61, antioch, a nice mild. 64 degrees for your high santa rosa at 65. a look ahead. shows tomorrow. a little bit warmer in just a sunny and dry

9.25. crop or your local election headquarters and independent presidential candidate robert f kennedy junior is set to come to the bay area tomorrow to announce his choice for vice president. >> that's expected to happen in oakland. rfk is reportedly planning to name a bay area native nicole shanahan as his running mate. she is a california attorney and entrepreneur or previously married to a google co-founder, sergey brin. will she grew up in oakland and graduated from santa clara university school of law. rfk junior was reportedly also considering former minnesota governor jesse ventura and new york jets quarterback aaron rodgers has potential running mates. but again, look for that formal announcement tomorrow. final numbers show that just about 47% of san franciscans cast ballots in the march 5th primary election, which was the lowest level for a primary since 2012. little more than 2233,000 ballots were cast,

blockages. >> on our bridges, 15 minutes traveling into the city on the bay bridge right now said that it just short of 14 minutes. maybe you're taking the richmond. sandra fell bridge or back down under 8 golden gate bridge around 20 check on those other highways out there. a lot more green than red things are looking much better are back to you. thanks. a lot rain. it's 9.30, in san jose. mayor matt mahan has made his decision appointed a new police chief. but just interim interim. yeah. kron four's michael thomas in the newsroom with more on that. good morning, michael. >> hey, good morning, everyone. paul joseph will serve as a new san jose interim police chief. he's currently second in command at the serving as interim. this out of the ordinary and he set to take over starting next week. now, assistant police chief karl joseph has spent the last 30 years with the san jose police chief. he joined back in 1994 after serving 2 and a half years over in san mateo now 2021. he was appointed assistant police chief and he has supported current police chief anthony

mata for a few years now. both men have pushed for more transparency and community engagement in the department in san jose. mayor matt mahan says joseph is very capable of this position. take a listen to what he had to say when we spoke with him. >> someone with interim chief shows u.s. history and experience and help provide stability and continuity being chief mata as assistant chief for the last 3 years has. so we put him in the position to build off of that consistency. then the search just it takes time. you want community input. we have an outside search firm helping us to source candidates. we're doing a lot of community engagement. it's a minimum six-month process. >> current police chief ahmad announced that he was leaving the department back in january saying he was embarking on a new role with santa clara county district attorney's office. mayor matt mahan says he leaves behind a solid foundation for both interim chief joseph and the eventual

permanent police chief. so as we get more word on who those a list of candidates might be or when one is officially picked, we'll keep you updated. but like you heard, it could take up to 6 months starting in. james, let's send it back to you can thank you, michael. >> time now is 9.32. and another big story we're following out of the east bay. the fact that oakland finally has a new police chief. now after that position has been vacant for more than a year mayor sheng thao fire. the old she fund has just appointed the new top cop. we get to know a little bit now this morning with the kron four's dan kerman. introducing us to floyd mitchell. for some oaklanders. it was last month's police commission candidates forum when they first got a look at oaklands new police chief floyd mitchell. i believe it's going to be a very challenging. >> opportunity for a police chief to come in and work with not only the members inside the department. >> community members and multiple governing authorities to work to move the the local police department forward.

>> mitchell began his career with the kansas city, missouri police department after 25 years there, he became police chief in temple, texas population. 82,000 in 2019, he became police chief for the city of lubbock, texas, population 257,001 thing that you consider probably the biggest accomplishment of his time here was the search allies in the police force. >> and that really helped his goal of community policing. >> that still is the evening anchor out our nexstar affiliate, lubbock, texas. he says mitchell was behind creating police substations in 3 different parts of the city. one of the things chief michel focused on was really touting the cart of safety by having the police department. >> closer to your home, this is going to be a safer community for everyone. he had a pretty much open to a policy. >> for folks to come in talk with him about issue that they may and that opens when he when you have open door policy like that, it makes everybody

feel like they are part of the change that happens within the community. reggie dial heads up the organization 100 black men of west texas. >> he says mitchell gained a lot of respect by joining with his organization following the murder of george floyd to lead a solidarity march in the city. we had. >> over got maybe 200 folks. now they're in a solidarity march to make sure that the city of louisville understands that is a partnership between the community in the police department. we have to work together on that he was a big piece of that, a major piece of that. and while those we spoke with said mitchell worked hard to establish relationships with the community. >> the same cannot be said for the news media. we would have, you know, unfortunate shootings and incidents that would happen you would expect tillis hear from the chief on them. he didn't really hear from him at all during the end of his tenure in lubbock, mitchell took a lot of heat for 9-1-1. calls going unanswered. but insiders say mitchell also didn't fare well

when it came to officer morale. there was a internal review, but of the police department that was conducted by chief michel and conducted by the department to see where morale within the department. and so from what i've been told from sources from within department of told that when it came to raul and how officer stopped mitchell was doing, it was pretty. >> fifty-fifty the city of lubbock and chief michel parted ways in september of last year. >> well, that was dan kerman reporting for us this morning. we did reach out to chief michel for a one-on-one interview. we're still waiting to hear back. >> we do know that he is expected to meet with the community and members of the media in oakland sometime this week. so we'll let you know when that happens. in the meantime, we did hear from the oakland chapter of the naacp. they released a statement which reads in part, quote, the long vacancy of this critical position caused a real sense of lawlessness in oakland. and we are glad to see that the city is finally moving forward. it is

imperative that he meet with the naacp and the community as soon as possible. we congratulate chief michel and look forward to meeting at partnering with him. >> time now is 9.36. and authorities in antioch are investigating a body was found in a creek yesterday morning around 11:15am, in the morning. police were called to that 5700 block of slaton ranch road. someone spotted a body in the water and police pulled in its a 38 year-old man. his cause of death is not known at this time. we do know crime scene investigators and the violent crimes unit has have taken over the investigation and the body is with the medical examiner right now. >> i hayward high school substitute teacher is one of 6 man being charged with attempting to meet up with teenagers for police say josef martinez worked at tennyson high school, teaching 10th grade english. he's accused of sending inappropriate messages to to undercover cops who are
