morning news. people living in san francisco's in richmond calling on the city to implement more safety precautions from the des trains after another person was hit by a car. well, a bus stop. a store closure in the

we're sitting right now looking at the golden gate bridge. skies are clear. we are going to be looking at the day today. that brings predominantly clear conditions. visibility is just fine across the bay. we're taking a bit of a breather from the rain, obviously, as we work our way through your saturday, it was definitely some spotty showers yesterday about some drier conditions in today. going to bring those dry skies as well. skies gradually clearing out more and more setting us up for mostly sunny conditions into the afternoon where we're seeing right now with temperatures. lot of 40's to low 50's on the ballot. nevado sitting at 50 degrees. berkeley and oakland at 51 palacio conquered each sitting at 49 to get this morning started later on today after these cool 40's and 50's will get back to those 60's. whether you're at the coast or further inland under some cool sunshine and notably some dry skies today. i'll be talking everything you've got to know for the rest of this week's forecast. our next chance of rainfall all still to come. as for your roads right now, things out there are doing

okay. we're not seeing any holdups on any of our bridges. here's the bay bridge. the means to fremont street with a 7 minute drive across that right now. definitely a strong start to the week. as far as your commute goes thus far, san mateo bridge, 13 minutes, no fog at the richmond center fell nor any fog as you make your crossing at the golden gates bacteria. all right, john, thank you for starting now to another top story, a driver slams into a bus stop. >> this time it's right next to golden gate park in san francisco, andrea person that was standing nearby. the crash comes one week after a family of 4 was hit and killed by a car while waiting for a bus to the zoo. people live in san francisco's in richmond district say they're worried about traffic safety. the crash happened saturday afternoon just before 5 of fulton street in part presidio officials say a man was taken to the hospital with injuries to his head. witnesses say the driver hit a metal pole in front of the bus stop which likely prevented more people from being hurt. police say the driver was cited on the

scene for multiple violations. the community now demanding the city to do a lot more to protect pedestrians. so connie chan is a supervisor for the district where this leaves bus stop crash happened still as kron 4. she's now urging the mayor 70 a speed of much needed safety improvements, including to speak cameras on fulton street. we talked with a woman who challenging chan for her seat as supervisor. she says physical barriers really help protect people standing at bus stops. absolutely unacceptable. >> there's not enough that we can be doing in terms of policy in design change i were in charge would be putting in bollards tonight. unfortunately that's not happening. we need better traffic enforcement in our streets need to be designed to keep kids to keep people safe. otherwise this is just going to keep happening. well, doing a speed study the fulton corridor, which should be done

got to move on. you know, that's what we can do. >> well, in a statement in and out says we're grateful for the community just supported us for over 18 years. and we recognize this closure negatively impacts our associates and their families. this location remains a pretty busy and profitable one for the company. but our top i already must be safety. this might be an announcer's closure. it's not the first business to abandon oakland's hegenberger corridor. denise will close this location there in february and just recently taco bell announced it would no longer the opening up its dining room to customers. last week. city leaders announcing a new plan to confront crime in the corridor that stretches from oakland's airport all the way international. there's going to increase patrols. competing and highway patrol's 7 days a week. the city is also investing 2 million dollars to help hire private security. also to install security cameras as well. o

let's head to the south bay jose. they now have an interim police chief ready to go. assistant chief paul joseph is set to take over the department. current chief anthony mata retires at the end of the month. joseph, a 30 year veteran with the san jose police department join back in 1994 after working with san mateo police for 2 and a half years, joseph was appointed to assistant chief back in 2021. or he supported on his push for transparency. san jose mayor matt mahan says joseph, he's a capable leader and he believes he can step into this role while a longer-term search starts. >> we're very fortunate to have someone with interim chief joseph's history and experience and help provide stability and continuity being chief mata as assistant chief for the last 3 years has. so we put them in the in the position to build off of that consistency. then the search

just it takes time. you want community input. we have an outside search firm helping us to source candidates. we're doing a lot of community engagement. it's a minimum six-month process. >> currently shimada announcing he was leaving the department in january. mayor mahan says model leaves behind a solid foundation for interim chief joseph and the eventual permanent police chief. that another big story this time in the east bay, oakland finally has a new police chief after that position was vacant for more than a year. mayor saying town in floyd mitchell, city's new top cop. most people in the bay know very little about him. other than that, he used to be the police chief up in lubbock, texas. palmer's dan kerman has some insight into who the new chief it >> for some oaklanders, it was last month's police commission candidates forum when they first got a look at oaklands new police chief floyd mitchell. i believe it's going to be a very challenging opportunity for a police chief

to come in and work with not only the members inside the department. >> community members and multiple governing authorities to work to move the the oakland police department forward. >> mitchell began his career with the kansas city, missouri police department after 25 years there, he became police chief in temple, texas population. 82,000 in 2019, he became police chief for the city of lubbock, texas, population 257,001 thing that you consider probably the biggest accomplishment of his time here was the search allies in the police force. >> and that really helped his goal of community policing. >> that still is the evening anchor at our nexstar affiliate, lubbock, texas. he says mitchell was behind creating police substations in 3 different parts of the city. one of the things chief michel focused on was really touting the cart of safety by having the police department. is going to be a safer this p-

community for everyone. he had a pretty much open to a policy. >> for folks to come in talk with him about issues that they may and that opens when he when you have open door policy like that, it makes everybody feel like they are part of the change that happens within the community. reggie dial heads up the organization 100 black men of west texas. >> he says mitchell gained a lot of respect by joining with his organization following the murder of george floyd to lead a solidarity march in the city. we had. >> over got maybe 200 folks. now they're in a solidarity march to make sure that the city of little understands that is a partnership between the community in the police department. we have to work together on and he was a big piece of that, a major piece of that. and while those we spoke with said mitchell worked hard to establish relationships with the community. >> the same cannot be said for the news media. we would have, you know, unfortunate shootings and incidents that would happen you would expect tillis hear from the chief on

them. he didn't really hear from him at all during the end of his tenure in lubbock, mitchell took a lot of heat for 9-1-1. calls going unanswered. but insiders say mitchell also didn't fare well when it came to officer morale. there was a internal review well of the police department that was conducted by chief michel and conducted by the department to seek wermer out. one within the department. and so from what i've been told from sources from within department of told that when it came to raul and how officer stopped mitchell was doing, it was pretty. >> fifty-fifty the city of lubbock and chief michel parted ways in september of last year. >> all right. well, that was dan kerman reporting. now we reached out to the new chief. we want to hear back from him and we haven't back just yet. but he's expected to meet with the community and the median open sometime this week. happening tonight. part of the richmond sandra fell bridge closed for repairs. according

wonder and that such a mix of weather is going rain be sunshine. >> jon tables talking about the start our week morning, john. yeah, we saw some pretty decent rainfall from friday into saturday, but now we're on a bit of a drying trend as we work our way through the next few days. and that is something that i think will be looking forward to before return of rainfall later this week where we're sitting right now. we do have some of that moonlight shining on the overall. we've got clear conditions to kick off your monday commute. not looking bad at all. a pretty easy one to be venturing outside this morning. radar shows you just a little bit of low cloud cover hanging out up above that system that resulted in all the activity we've had the past few days is now pushing out still some snowfall across northern nevada into utah. pretty big snowmaker about to be set working across the northern rockies as we make to the start of the week. but where we're sitting here in the bay area, the start of our week is going to be nice, calm and clear today and tomorrow, no chances of rain for you. easy forecast to be venturing

skies and lighter winds than we saw yesterday, which is all adds up to a very pleasant start to the week. tomorrow's temperatures will be a little bit warmer. wednesday starts try bands with showers that will continue into thursday morning thursday afternoon. it looks like we'll get a break before a rainy friday and some showers lingering into saturday for your roads right now. things out there looking a okay. we're not seeing any holdups on the bay bridge from the maze to fremont street. it's only an 8 minute drive right now. as for the san mateo bridge, 13 minutes to make your crossing there. you're at the limit. while the richeond center fell and the golden gate also doing just fine right now. all right, john, thank you for that. now to a developing story. a mountain lion. >> killed a man and severely injured his brother. this is all eldorado county, the florida fish and wildlife says the mountain lion was euthanized. going to shine. it has an update on the condition of the teen who survived an attack. >> 18 year-old man remains in the hospital following an

attack by a mountain lion which killed his 21 year-old brother, 18 year-old. he went throughout the night. still in the hospital, but is expected to make a full recovery. thankfully. >> the attack happened at one 13 pm saturday in the area of darling bridge road in pearl, georgetown as the brothers were out and slur shed hunting, the younger brother was able to dial 9-1-1, for help. >> looking that point. the deputy to first reach the younger brother notifies dispatch has multiple deputies on medical with first patient, a 10 year-old male. >> kind of flood water with

>> deputies followed the trail and located the older brother not long after roughly 10 minutes >> that they that's when they did locate unfortunate that the the 21 year-old to worcester determined to be deceased. at that time searching kyle parker says when deputies spotted the lion it was crouched down next to the older brother's body. >> deputies then fired at and added additional shots fired. >> but the lie and took off running at least 3 trappers with fish and wildlife and with the county's ag department. >> later located the lion and euthanized it. sergeant parker says the family has received messages and prayers both locally and from across the country. >> they very much are very appreciative for the messages that are being sent. the last fatal lion attack in el dorado county happened 30 years ago when a lion attacked a 40 year-old woman who was running in the auburn state recreation

got more trouble for boeing. the fbi calling the boeing alaska airline door blowout criminal saying passengers aboard the flight were a possible victim of a crime after 7.37. max jet lost a door plug mid-flight 7 back in january, leading to ground planes, probes and lawsuits. also the justice department opening a criminal investigation into that incident with the fbi's seattle division sending a letter to passengers within the last week. the letter states, quote, contacting you because we identified you as a possible victim of a crime case is currently under investigation by the fbi criminal investigation can be olympian undertaking and for several reasons. we cannot tell you about its progress at this time in quote. so boeing declined comment on the doj probe. alaska airlines said they are fully cooperating and they don't believe their target of the investigation. a

>> all right. welcome back to the kron. 4 morning news are going on 5.30, year. we'll see a really nice day and try the wondering how long the nice conditions a stick good morning. yeah. cause this week doesn't necessarily stay dry, but we have a couple of dry days ahead of us today. and tomorrow, most notably right now, the golden gate bridge looking nice and clear. we're not really talking any fog out there. visibility is just fine across the bay and after friday and saturday brought us some shower activity. it is nice to see those clear skies continuing for a couple more days today. just a few low clouds out there. like i mentioned, affecting visibility in the winds a little calder than yesterday. so today, a very pleasant set up to get the week started. right now we're sitting in the 40's to low 50's out there depending on where you're at

will step outside and nurses who are supposed start work at 7.30. they will not the helping patients. instead, they will be along with their fellow nurses on the picket lines, seton medical center. if you have an appointment with them, don't worry about it. they do have free placement nurses to take care of your needs. but you might want to call. and just in case there's a lot of shifting going on because obviously the normal staff will not be there for the next 2 days. now, take a look at your screen. this is what the response is from seton medical center. they have new owners actually bought it 4 years ago after seton medical center was on the brink of bankruptcy. i remember being here 4 years ago during that time and the new owners say since they stepped in, they have pumped in hundreds of millions of dollars to keep this facility open to daly city to the rest of the bay area and as well as to keep the employees at work. but they are not happy with what's going on. they say

right now they're offering a 16% pay raise over 3 years. they give free medical benefits to employees and their immediate families. and they say the top 5% of their employees average about $181,000, which they say should keep them at work and not on the picket lines. take a look at your screen. also. this is their response. and we, of course, will get the response from the union representing the workers a little bit later this morning. but this is what's eating medical center told us we have been working diligently to ensure northern san mateo county has a community hospital for years to come to provide high quality, affordable care. that means that meets the needs of our community. we are committed to resolving any outstanding issues to a constructive dialogue and negotiation. so again, this is a two-day strike will begin at 7.30. you will not be impacted as a patient because by law they have to notify their bosses that they do plan to hit the

picket lines. but a lot of rearranging might possibly be done with your schedule. back to you. all right. well, thank you for that. >> let's head to the south bay, san jose mayor matt mahan has appointed a new interim police chief over michael thomas is in the newsroom with the latest on that. seems like a lot of the cities are getting new chiefs. good morning, michael. hi, good morning, everyone. that's right, arena. and the new interim police chief serving for san jose will be paul joseph. he's currently second in command of the serving as interim. >> isn't out of the ordinary and he set to take over by next week. chief paul joseph has spent the last 30 years with the san jose police chief department. i think we're having some audio issues. there we go. he joined back in 1994 after working just 2 and a half years with the san mateo police. now back in 2021, he became assistant police chief and has supported current police anthony mata ever since both men have pushed for more transparency and community engagement in the department. and san jose

last seen wearing a black top black pants. authorities are looking for her in alameda, santa clara, sacramento, los angeles and orange counties. anyone who sees maxey please call 9-1-1. in the east bay. 3 people were injured after an argument. oakland in in a triple shooting. the around 7.45. yesterday morning on 47th avenue. police say they found 3 victims who had been shot. they all were taken to the hospital and they are expected to survive. no arrests have been made. we patrol investigating a deadly crash on southbound 8.80, near paseo padre parkway in fremont. this is video from the citizens at around 9.30, saturday night. these pieces of the crash happened after a 4 tours hit a prius. they say the driver of the ford crashed into an embankment indict drive. the prius is cooperating with the investigation. the cafe that has been serving breakfast for a decade now joins a long list area businesses don't break
