san pablo. all westbound lanes were shut down. but we have been just told that they have reopened again. you can see traffic moving. thanks for joining us for kron. 4 news at 10. i'm ken wayne and i'm vicki liviakis. that incident was first reported really within the last half hour. >> chp says the victim took themselves to the hospital with non life threatening injury. here's a look at the scene now from a little bit earlier this evening. all westbound lanes. they were shut down on traffic being diverted off mcbride avenue off-ramp. again, we have just received word that the lanes are now open will, of course, be following this story and bring you all the latest as we get more information. the big story we're following for you tonight. a health warning for some diners in the east bay after one of them tested positive for measles. that warning is for anyone who dined at sons of liberty alehouse in san leandro on the night of march. 9th kron 4

sarah stinson. >> live in san leandro with the details. sarah. >> alameda county health officials just put this alert out tonight. they're saying that if you and 2 sons of liberty alehouse here in san leandro on march 9th within a specific time frame. you may want to look for symptoms because they can take up to a week. and 21 days to appear and they're saying if you came to how specifically on march 9th between the time of 4.45 in the afternoon and 7, 30 at night. this alert is for you. you may have been exposed symptoms include fever, cough, runny nose. red eyes and a rash that can last up to week. measles can spread when an infected person breathes coughs or sneezes. since it does take time for symptoms to appear. people could start to feel the symptoms anytime between the 16th of this month to the 30th measles can be

very contagious. according to the health department, one person infected with measles can infect 9 out of 10 unvaccinated people in close contact like you're at a restaurant sitting next to that person. now the health department says to contact them and a doctor if you are at the restaurant during that time frame and especially if your child was exposed, if you're not vaccinated or if you're a health care or child care worker. now, today i spoke with the owner of sons of liberty alehouse. he says the health department contacted him this afternoon and he asked them for some proof about this person who has the measles in. he said they had no proof that this person was, in fact, a customer at his restaurant. no receipt nothing. but this health alert came out the health department wants to remind people now is the time to get vaccinated for measles. if you're not already. i'm sara stinson reporting live in san leandro. back to you.

>> thank you, sarah. yeah, this is more than a dozen states have now reported measles cases this year alone, including here in california. cdc urging doctors to vaccinate babies as young as 6 months old. if their families are traveling to a measles affected country. according to the cdc, there have been at least 58 confirmed measles cases so far this year here in the u.s. more than 90% have been linked to international travel and mainly involve children one year or older who had not been vaccinated >> literally, if someone sharing the airspace of this building with measles and they're gone for 2 hours. this area for 2 hours is still contaminated. >> health officials say that unvaccinated people have a 90% chance of becoming infected if they are exposed to measles tonight, a legal expert is weighing in on the charges against driver involved in a crash that killed 3 family members in san francisco's west portal neighborhood. the

tragic incident happened saturday while the family was waiting to catch a bus to the zoo, a one year-old boy and his parents were killed. the lone survivor is an infant who is in the hospital right now with life threatening injuries. the driver, a 78 year-old woman, was arrested for vehicular manslaughter, but formal charges from the district attorney's office. those are still pending. grant lodes joins us now with the charges that she could be facing. grant just a horrible story. vicky in the district attorney is still investigating this crash. >> to determine whether to file criminal charges against mary fallen lau criminal defense attorney michael cardoza tells kron 4 if lau was under the influence of drugs or alcohol that could lead to the criminal charge of involuntary manslaughter. >> a lot of people think, oh, i'm just taking my medications for stride. but doctor, for example, norco somebody takes

the norco i could write my doctor prescribe that. no, you can't. that's against the law. the law doesn't care whether it's a prescription drug or an illegal drug. if you're under the influence. >> on the other hand, if there was a mechanical problem with the vehicle that might suggest an accident and no criminal charge. and then if she confused the gas edbreak, for i things get murkier. >> that land serve, more toward. >> and accident. but then the da is going to look and say, wait a minute, have you been in prior accidents? have you been warned about this? you you have tickets and your history. we're sampling something similar happens. so that's why i say this case needs a full vetting by the district attorneys office. but it simply she panicked because the car, for example, lurch that it's an accident.

say a woman was stabbed several times in his suffering from life-threatening injuries. tonight, 2 others also happened in the mission district. the one on march in the lower hill neighborhood and one on march 13th that happened in the outer mission where a suspect was arrested for killing the victim. police are still looking for the suspects in 4 other stabbings in the south bay. a man is dead tonight after a standoff with police in campbell. it happened this morning. >> officers say a woman texted police about a domestic violence incident and told police there her children were inside the home with the suspect identified as miguel gomez officers say they tried to talk to gomez, but gomez shot at them. police say an officer shot back and killed gomez santa clara county district attorney's office is investigating the shooting. a double shooting in pleasant hill leaves one man dead and another in critical condition. >> this happened about noon today in the parking lot of a

condo complex on twin bridge circle. that's near highway 6.80, police say they found 2 men lying on the ground with several gunshot wounds. officers say one of the victims, a 67 year-old man died at the hospital. we spoke to a resident who heard the gunshots. >> allison is here. some what i what i was like. firecrackers sounds like a like a like a small and they've been shot or is that like pleasant when are expect that until i heard very loud cars kind of drive last also car really. and i think, okay, something something went down. there are some yelling. >> police have not released any suspect. details. oakland, the city council has approved an ordinance to clear abandoned vehicles in that city. city leaders say that the plan is to identify to remove and track abandoned vehicles using parking control technicians and heavily impacted areas and creating a

position to ensure that a ban in cars get processed in a timely manner. >> new at 10 tonight, san francisco's board of supervisors has approved a revival to a program that helps homeless individuals return to their hometowns. supporters say people who choose to participate in the program. typically live here in california. and it costs less than $200 to get them back home. the dublin school district has reached a tentative agreement with the teachers association avoiding a strike. that agreement includes a 6% salary increase for teachers starting this school year and starting next year, there will be additional prep time given to elementary school teachers. still ahead, the state bills seeking to hold california universities. >> responsible for hazing after a student at a fraternity event and death. there. the new push to require children to attend kindergarten in california. why governor newsom? it's not in favor of thieves used a

>> the front of an else tobacco shop, demolish the whole front of the store gone after burglars broke into the business this morning and that led police on a chase that ended with a crash and left an innocent driver. dead. surveillance video shows how it all started. a white pickup truck smashes into the front of a tobacco outlet store in el serino. 2 men dressed in black start rummaging around the store. the owner got a security alarm alert and called 9-1-1 officers arrived

at the scene, pursued. the eventually got on the westbound lanes of 5.80, near the bay bridge toll plaza. moments later, the truck smashed into 2 other vehicles. a white utility van and a gray bmw. according to the highway patrol, the 2 occupants of the truck and the driver of the van all suffered major injuries and the driver of the bmw died at the scene. the accident shut down all lanes of westbound 5.80, for hours this morning. the owner of the tobacco shop tells kron 4. this is the 6th time it has been robbed in the last couple of years. he says he believes the suspects simply stole cigarettes. a large box of cigarettes was found at the crash scene spread across the freeway. the owner who did not want to go on camera, estimates of the store might be a total loss. not sure if it will be able to reopen. >> this could be about damage. so, you if we fix that. >> police say one of the

suspects is from san francisco. the other from oakland. the chp says it's working to bring criminal charges against both of them. >> east bay man accused of murdering his wife and mother-in-law appeared in court today. while detectives say they're still searching for the victims remains of food. vo the man behind the glass was first identified as a person of interest. when police say that vo told them his wife and mother-in-law were missing in september 3 months later, he was spotted driving his wives missing car in oakland. police say that they have enough evidence to believe that vo had direct involvement in the disappearance and the murders. he remains at the martinez jail. >> tonight, state attorney general rob bonta's office says it did respond to a letter sent by supporters of alameda county district attorney pamela price. after the supporters claim they didn't get a response. yesterday, we reported on allegations of fraud. rabbi effort to recall her inst supporters blasting bonta for not responding to their

requests to investigate the recall efforts signature gathering process on u.s. office told us they did response sending us this letter dated march 6 informing prices protect the wind campaign that the allegations regarding unlawful signature gathering tactics should be directed to the secretary of state which serves as the state's chief elections officer, a spokesperson for the price campaign says this is the first time they've seen that letter. meantime, the alameda county registrar of voters is hand counting signatures to make sure there are enough to trigger a recall election. meantime, rob bonta announced today 27 felony charges against a crime theft rain accused of targeting. >> high-end stores all across the onto announcing charges against 3 suspects from la county. investigators say the 3 lead smash-and-grab style robberies and stole hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of merchandise before selling the goods on social media. >> through instagram stories

in front of the assembly judiciary committee as lawmakers took up assembly bill. 21 93 also known as tyler's law named for her late son. the legislation seeks to hold public and private universities and community colleges in california. sibley liable for hasan if the institution was found to have direct involvement of the hazing process knew or should have known about hazing taking place or failed to take with the bill language describes as reasonable steps from preventing hazing at organizations affiliated with the institution. this bill will make a difference. i believe it will to hold those responsible accountable. it's a sentiment shared by bill author, pasadena, something member, chris holden. he believes the bill will lead to new preventative policies addressing hazing incidents before they happen. but not everyone supports the legislation in its current form, the csu system and the association of independent california colleges and universities support with the bill is trying to do. but they made clear they want to see stronger legal protections for institutions.

>> we intend to continue working in partnership with the authors office to find language that would be agreeable and come to the middle. at which time will be very glad to remove opposition. still, members of the committee overwhelmingly voted in favor of the bill we expect or universities to act reasonably. >> in preventing these acts there. lane, california students, most important responsibilities we have as legislatures when tragedies like this happen community to take action is still occurring in our schools we just don't want another family to go through the pain of losing a child to hazing. it's it's senseless and preventable. >> and this is just the beginning for this bill. now heads to the assembly education committee reporting at the state capitol. a tom wallace kron. 4 news state lawmakers are close to passing a bill that would give students applying for financial aid an extra month. >> to apply that bill would move the deadline for cal grant another state aid programs from april. second to

may 2nd, the measure passed assembly yesterday and it moves on to the state senate. that body is expected to vote on it later this week, there's a renewed push to make kindergarten mandatory across california to southern california. lawmakers have introduced legislation. >> that would require kids to attend public or private kindergarten starting in 2026, this would also include home school supporters say the move is necessary to help close learning gaps, especially in the early years. governor gavin newsom vetoed similar legislation in 2022. citing budget concerns. then at the time it was estimated that mandatory kindergarten would cost about 258 million dollars a year. >> out of the 4 zone forecast as we give you a live look right now outside san francisco lit up like a christmas tree. so lawrence, last time we saw you was still winter and now it's spring spring has sprung. we're finally here. so if you've been looking forward to, well, you're going to see another nice day for tomorrow. then

things begin to change. we get back to some wintry weather once again. you know how it works out this time of year. usually can see the wet weather continue only into march, but in the april, sometimes and even some of those extraordinary years all the way into june. but out there right now, we're getting a nice clear shot of the bay looking good outside. patchy fog. just a hint of it along the coastline right now. but otherwise, i think tonight going to be a bad night. just a couple of patches of fog. and don't think we'll see the extent of that fog like we had last night. in fact, it's still 60 degrees in antioch right now. pretty comfortable there. 55 and clear in san jose are looking to 40 a cooler now in the bottom 49 degrees in santa rosa. 51 in napa overall state looking good. high pressure still overhead, even though that ridge is beginning to weaken, see some clouds off the coastline. more of those to come. eventually you start to see this area of low pressure out here. this is not going to the one that's going to bring you the rain. but what we'll do is help send that ridge of high pressure for the east as a case that ridge out of town behind that, there's another developing out there and then

>> a preliminary hearing started in the case of what police describe as an exorcism like ritual that ended with the death of a 3 year-old girl on the screen. we're about to show you the suspects accused of her murder. the girl's mother, uncle and grandfather. prosecutors say they performed a horrifying exorcism in san jose back in 2021. investigators later determined the death of the girl was caused by suffocation. the preliminary hearing is expected to last through next tuesday. the judge will then decide if there's enough evidence to move the case to

>> now at 10, 30 congress is asking uc berkeley to hand over a large trove of documents dragging the east bay school into investigation of anti-semitism colleges all across the nation conference. catherine heenan reports from the newsroom. >> well, a formal request account for documents came from the house education committee. the university now has until april second, 2. >> a comply or to appeal for more time. >> congress wants to find out everything it can about how uc berkeley response to incidents of reported anti-semitism or examples of situations jewish students say they do not feel safe. >> this was scene last month

protesters disrupted an event where a former member of the israel defense forces was set to speak. protesters broke through doors to students say they were assaulted. that congressional committee is not just talking to uc berkeley. it is now on a list that includes harvard, columbia and mit. >> and they're serving subpoenas. ducas take comes for documents on universities all over the united states and asking various universities to turn over anything and everything regarding any sort and activities look at our universities, engaging in anti-semitism in 2024. when the university administration doesn't enforce policy, that results in a hostile unsafe island campus ridges. >> the house education committee says there are what it calls grave concerns about

the in adequacy of the uc berkeley response to anti-semitism and referred to a failure to protect jewish students. and if that's what the investigation shows, that's awful. >> i think that's terrible that any student wouldn't be protected by virtue of their religious affiliation. whether you're catholic or baptist or hindu or buddhist or muslim, that's america. >> uc berkeley says in a statement it is committed to confronting antisemitism and plans to release a comprehensive report on the committee's questions. meantime, some jewish students at several campuses including cal berkeley are planning what they call a sleep and protests tonight intended as another way to pressure administrators to deal more directly with their concerns, vicki and can. the new drug is being credited with bringing down the number

issue before takeoff around noon yesterday after taxiing to the runway, the plane return to the gate. the aircraft was a boeing triple 7 with 243 passengers and 14 crew members on board. it had not yet departed sfo when the issue was discovered, the flight did finally take later around 5 o'clock and reached its destination safely. this is the 5th maintenance issue involving a united flight and sfo in just the past 2 weeks, more ev charging stations could soon be set up around san francisco city officials announced plans to install curbside charging stations for electric vehicles by next year. it's all part of the city's goal to install more than 5,000 chargers by the year 2030. or cisco is committed to achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions. >> by 2040, and has set an interim goal that 25% of all registered high the vehicles to ,e electric by 2030, to

meet. goes vital that the city expand access to affordable and convenient charging options. that means expanding are charging network with hole workplace and public charging. city officials will first have to decide where to install the curbside charging stations and then. >> hear from people who live in those neighborhoods. city supervisors say they hope to get the evaluation back by june. >> gas prices continue to go up here in the bay area. drivers are now paying $0.30 more for a gallon of regular than they did just last month. take a look. according to triple a the most expensive gas is in sam tail county, about 5.80, a gallon for regular in the north bay. the averages more than $5 a gallon. this east bay in the south bay are close closer to hitting the $5 mark. the least expensive gas you'll find around here is in solano county at about 4.90, per gallon. >> well, the time we look at

your 4 zone forecast here. the coit tower all lit up kind of a quiet night chile. is that a harbinger of things to come, lawrence? well, a little chilly. yeah, but we've got a little rain in the forecast. in we may be done with winter, but winter certainly is not done with us. we've got some more storm clouds on the rise and i'll show you more of that and the tenant. coming up in a few minutes. but out the door tonight, not a bad night out there. not a bad way to start out your spring as we have the spring equinox tonight. and looking good out there right now, you've got mostly clear skies. we have seen a patch to fog kind of flirting with the coastline. probably will see a little more of that overnight tonight. maybe a couple patches moving in just inside the bay, but it's not going to be widespread by tomorrow morning. so here's a look outside right now. you've got some partly cloudy skies overnight tonight. and then as we head toward tomorrow, you've got a lot of sunshine in tee afternoon. although late the day likely going to see some high clouds begin to cruising across our skies as high pressure going to start to weaken somewhat. and then we get ready for a chance of

rain as we head into friday numbers today. beautiful and some of the valleys a 76 degrees. well above the average in little more than a 72 and gorgeous unconquered. 71 in sunny and san jose. little cooler than normal. but nice and sunny and san francisco at 60 degrees. 65 in oakland and 67 in santa rosa out the door right now. you've got numbers hold the 50's along the coastline. 53 temperatures go now. 55 in concord 51 right now. and mostly clear in napa, 50 degrees and snowing 50 also in petaluma, a little cooler in the battle. alright, long-range forecast for you. we take you out to the 25th of the 29. so a 6 to 10 day forecast. you can see the areas shaded in green here. well, you look up to the scale and there you go. long way. forecast forecast, the weather, the normal precipitation as we head in toward the end of the month. and i think very well, maybe even above normal precipitation as we have the first week in april, looks like he's going to be pretty wet over the next couple weeks. once we get things going right now, we've been enjoying that nice weather, high pressure overhead really

some nice sunshine outside. but things are changing southern california, though. they actually have a couple they actually have a couple more scattered shower up with an area of low pressure, kind of spinning around there. you see those they're moving on by. but not a whole lot. i think by tomorrow those are gone over, although, yeah, it looks like we've got storm clouds on the way. tomorrow will be a nice day. the clouds gather little bit as we head in toward tomorrow evening and then thursday, kind of a transitional day. and by friday. well, here you go. your next chance of rain rolling on in and well, we've got more behind that back long range forecast shows that system getting a little bit close to that. rain moving in as we head into friday. there it is moving on by showers continuing on saturday and maybe a lingering shower early in the morning on sunday. i think for the most part, just partly cloudy on sunday, but much, much cooler around the bay area. we're going from some highs in the 70's, maybe some highs only in the mid 50's in parts of the bay area. staying unsettled wet and some mountain snow across the high country. so a long way to go here now as we're going to see a return to some wet weather. so enjoy the day tomorrow, 50's and 60's in the san francisco cool out along the
