kron 4 sarah stinson, reports tonight from walnut creek with a check on the voter turnout in contra costa county. >> on the eve of super tuesday, many people dropped off their ballot after work in walnut creek. i care about the senate race. the california senate race a lot, always vote. but these voters appear to be the minority in contra costa county, according to the assistant registrar, helen nolan out of 700 voters, 127,000 ballots were received by monday afternoon. that's less than 20% of the total ballots, which leads nolan to predict an overall low turnout. we're expecting coming into this about 45 50% based on previous presidential primaries. >> but as a turnout right now, it looks like might get 35%. >> nolan says there's a decline in voting statewide. she believes many are voting because of the lack of competition between presidential nominees. people

who did vote on monday expressed disappointment in the low turnout so far, some saying they hope people take the time to do it on super tuesday. your vote matters right now. we live in a free democracy and voting is critical too. maintaining that democracy. and that's including the ones cast by the state's youngest voters. that's my first time voting 19 year-old devon stanton proudly cast his vote for the first time he encourages all to do the same. matters. i think everybody. >> should have the opportunity to vote. if they can go do it. and it's not too late to cast your vote. you can head to the polls. >> on super tuesday, they open at 7 in the morning close at 8 at night. so make sure you head out there. you can drop off your ballot at these secured official ballot drop boxes. >> and if you don't have time to read over the measures, you can get your ballot postmark, make sure you do it by tomorrow. and then you have 7 days to turn in that ballot to make sure it counts. i'm sara

stinson reporting in walnut creek. back to you. >> all right, sarah, and here are the ballots returned as of last night in the other bay area counties, almost all of them don't even get close to 20% except former in sonoma and napa counties. >> election is today ends and we're here mindful of the importance. the imperative of getting out to vote. >> governor newsom was in san francisco today encouraging people to get out and vote. also he was here pushing proposition one. if that passes tomorrow, billions will be invested in mental health treatment facilities across the state. the proposition hopes to address the homeless crisis by creating 11,000 more residential units for people living without homes. opponents of prop one believe it will cost too much money, especially when the state is facing a budget deficit. and you can join us tomorrow for super tuesday. we hope you do live results from around the

bay area, the state and the country. a special edition of kron. 4 news begins tomorrow night at 8 o'clock in prime time. all right. a live look outside tonight above san francisco, super tuesday eve as we head to meteorologist dave spahr. the city's lit up and red white and blue. dave, it looks like for a day tomorrow. >> they're all set to go even though it's election day tomorrow going on. yeah, good evening. granted evening, everybody. so we actually have little clear patch working its magic over the next few hours before it gets filled back up again later tonight. we need that to keep the temperatures supported overnight. live shot coming in to the east bay shoreline. not much in the way of fog, but we might see some develop later on there. you can see on the satellite picture looks like it's kind of clearing out a little bit temporarily. our forecast tonight calls for 49 for san francisco, considerable clouds, variable clouds for oakland and also for san jose. little cooler, though, it looks like in the south bay and probably for tribe alley

going on in the east bay as well. ultimately lows. there you 44 for a little more. 47 for antioch and will hold on to some lower 50's along the east bay shoreline with 54 half moon bay. let's get over to the future for thing as we go over the next 48 hours, there are some splotches of some scattered showers in here. this is now till tuesday morning here, kind of freezing about midnight, mixed bag of mostly clouds, but some sun poking out there a little bit. that low starts to shift towards our south. you can see the turn there and then by tuesday, overnight to wednesday, enough moisture gets thrown up to us. we might see some thunder showers in the north bay and maybe perhaps the santa cruz mountains will. but more likely it looks like around monterey bay once that the parts were in for a couple of days of clearing, how much rain are we getting? well, let's take a look at all the come tire grand total. this is by tuesday night. and you can see even up in the north bay, not even a quarter of an inch of rain and elsewhere, barely pennies to be had. let's go

ahead and spend it on for 2 about wednesday night. there you have it. not even a half of an inch of rain except for santa rosa. so amounts will be somewhat modest over the next 48 hours of a look at your 4 zone forecast and the extended and a bit grant. >> says good day. thank you for deputies are in the hospital tonight after a shooting early this morning. just outside santa rosa. according to investigators, deputies responded to reports of a man holding a rifle when they arrived on scene just after midnight. the suspect took off in a car and while chasing him, they say deputies and the suspect shot at each other. investigators say one had head injuries and one deputy is now in critical condition tonight from a head injury after the shooting. deputies say the gunman drove away and crashed on stony point road. they say he died at the scene. the sonoma county sheriff's office says body camera footage will be released in the future. >> you can imagine i'm concerned about my and your

deputies. hope they'll make a full speedy recovery. this is been chaotic incident. >> now to a different pursue this one in vallejo that led to an arrest, a chp chopper captured it on video here police say they ended up chasing a suspect after responding to reports of a side show the suspect, they say cross county lines went into richmond. that is where police say the suspect got out of his car and got into another car that was waiting for him. police managed to stop that vehicle and arrest the suspect. tonight. a man has been arrested for the death of his wife and his mother-in-law. san pablo police ever arrested 40 year-old food vo. he is facing 2 counts of murder for his wife and her mom. they've been missing since september when vo called police and said they took off in a car after they got into an argument and may be headed to southern california. while

investigating the case. police say they found the car in oakland and the suspect was seen driving it. police say they gather more evidence and believe vo was involved in the disappearance and murders of his wife and her mother, their bodies have still not been found. >> we call >> the effort to recall alameda county district attorney pamela price is moving forward today. boxes of signatures were dropped off at the counoy registrar of voters to get the recall put on the november ballot. save alameda for everyone or safe said they gathered around 127,000 signatures. that is well above the requirement of about 73,000. the group claims prices jeopardizing the safety of residents and businesses in the county by failing to enforce the law, failing to prosecute criminals and failing to keep violent offenders off the streets.

true crimes. it will air on the program called on the case with paula zahn on several streaming services, including max discovery. plus, and amazon prime the exact air date is unknown, but it is set to air some time before the end of march. a new bill is seeking to help cases like alexa says prop 69 currently funds state and local dna programs to help identify missing people. but it expires this year. this new bill would continue the funding through fines, charged to criminals. the dna programs not only help to identify missing people, but also solve child abduction cases and allies, rape and assault evidence and help identify evidence of crime scenen. california attorney general rob bonta spoke today about why the programs are so important. >> certainly there's nothing celebratory about this work. but the fact that we've

identified over 2000 missing persons is meaningful. it's a reminder of what we can accomplish for the people of california when we have the appropriate resources which will be provided by this bill. >> so far 106,000 cold cases have been solved. thanks to the program, provide the answers and closure to grieving families. if the bill passes, it will supply a steady source of funding to keep those dna programs in place. in the east bay. a new report says oakland librarians feel more unsafe than ever, according to oakland side, the oakland public library hired a consultant to address safety concerns and burnout. the consultant found most employees are facing verbal abuse, racy situations, dangerous confrontations and mental health crisis. the report comes after surveying more than a dozen branches in oakland and interviewing about 50 employees. the library

system tells our affiliate news nation, the oakland public library is at an inflection point and needs to decide upon its path for the future or its path may be decided for it. and quote, newsnation, by the way, reached out to several branch managers in oakland as well as the mediator here to confirm this report. this report comes as the antioch library recently reopened after abruptly shutting down due to security issues. there. the library closes. visitors were threatening staff setting things on fire and similar oakland having inappropriate relations in full view of people. contra costa county used emergency money to create a safer environment for staff and patrons by hiring armed guards inside and in front of the library. south bay leaders have announced new legislation to try streamline the building of interim housing standing in

front of an interim housing site built in 2021. state senator josh becker join san jose mayor mahan and community leaders in announcing the interim housing act of 2024, it would provide an improved option to bridge the gap between encampments and permanent housing. in housing. >> they can get stable. have an address where get supportive services they can get tied in to networks. they can get connected in trying get help finding a job. >> the proposed bill would help to speed up the process of building interim housing while permanent affordable housing is being constructed, private builders usually build housing only if they can increased rents. so this would help build more mixed income housing that people can better afford. >> still to come and iconic south bay diner is back open after being closed for 4 years. now the owners feeling

>> interstate 80 is back open tonight after 4 intense days of heavy snowfall today, caltrans crews were able to clear both directions with chain controls still in place. chp south lake tahoe says safe driving in the snow requires experience. you have to take precaution and some people they say did not pay attention to the warnings. >> shenanigans, you could still see that people were

ish. >> it looks like the next couple of days. so even though we're not adding too much more to that, it's still not a melting type forecasts east bay shoreline. here you have it all that up nicely. we're looks like we have a clear patch trying to work in here a bit to give us some temporary break in the clouds in spots. but generally speaking, the clouds will fill back in again to sfo. they're cooking out of the hour. delay before tonight. variable clouds, few north bay showers thrown in there. 40's for the bay area tomorrow, variable clouds a north bay shower. all right. now, this week, wednesday, there's a last minute shower north bay around santa cruz mountains. it looks like after that we have a clear patch for a couple of days. here it is in graphic form for you. they're the splotches of some scattered showers. we noted clear patches show up here and there. here's the turn. now the low is going to the south. it's pretty much to the west of us. but enough moisture gets a bubbled up so it may cause some issues up north and again down the santa cruz mountains into monterey bay. it as well. not that the having out enough already. here's the clear patch for a couple of days. we do get wind

pops from this tomorrow a little bit from the south takes bit of a breather. comes back again. looks like on wednesday that the final hurrah for this low. let's get the big picture here. you see it sneaking off break and then interruption. excuse day. yeah, that's on the weekend. it looks like on saturday as breeze is on by still holding together there and seems to be in the afternoon. but maybe as it starts to thin, we'll get a little better forecast as we approach into the weekend. another interruption early into next week. and there seems to be evidence that a warming trend to the latter portion of next week. 4 zone forecast. we've got 60's along the coast here. bayside year around 60 as well. 8 bad for early march are approaching mid-march. 63 for foster city, 62 palo alto. how the mid 60's down south there. 65 san jose. lower 60's east bay shoreline with tri valley. also checking in lower 60's conquer to get 63 for that. 61 vallejo, napa. 59 for santa rosa. so we do have some initial traffic to deal with shore. little clear
