few. well, actually, about half hour now, the leading candidates for california's open u.s. senate seat will hit the stage for a live debate. you'll see only here on kron 4. >> our capitol bureau reporter eytan wallace joins us now live in the city with what's going on a time. well, ken, this certainly should be a very interesting debate is going to be a debate that focuses on the issues facing california. >> but one that also include probably some fireworks. >> steve garvey. katie porter. really. >> it's debate night in california. you're looking at the major candidates in the race for the u.s. senate as they prepare to take the stage here. the kron 4 studios in san francisco. there is a lot at stake moderated by inside california politics co-host nicky lorenzo and frank buckley. the debate is expected to focus on key issues facing the state, including the cost of living homelessness and crime.

foreign policy matters, including the israel-hamas war and russian invasion of ukraine are also expected to come up. it matters now. this is when voters are starting to tune in. well, a law school professor jessica levinson points out this debate is taking place just about 3 weeks before primary election day, march 5th, the top 2 vote getters will move on to the general election in november. all the more. so i levinson says this debate matters. candidates want their breakout moment and not in a bad way. with ballots already sent in the mail to all registered voters in the state. levinson says this debate is do or die time for the candidates in a race where most polls show democrat adam schiff leading while republican former major league baseball star steve garvey and irvine democratic congressmember katie porter fighting neck and neck for that key second place spot for adam schiff. there's nobody wants to run against more than steve garvey. >> adam schiff, nose in a california. we are not going to elect a republican to statewide office. adam schiff

had long talks about the perilous journey to help palestinians in gaza, the south bay emergency room doctor who has family in the war-torn region said he couldn't hold back from helping the best way. he knows how. but i'm concerned about my journey through this life. >> being able to help as many people as possible, whether domestically or abroad. and so i'm really focusing on my my energy is my kind of mental state on on that. not out of fear. >> so bay has been to other countries is a medical volunteer over the years. most recently, he included his 13 year-old son, a flawed on a mission to all salvador. he's been planning this trip to gaza for 2 months. survey says he will be escorted into gaza through the rafah border by convoys with the world health organization and united nations. his family has mixed emotions of a shared this message to his boys. >> everything carries risk, but it's how does this fit in with our life's purpose is the you know, point of conversation for us and

california have a chance to vote on a proposal to enshrine marriage as a fundamental right into the state constitution and remove language that still defines marriage. as between a man and a woman. all right. let's check in now is lawrence karnow is keeping an eye on the weather situation and there's going to be some a real big activity on the east coast. yeah, it's going to be a big problem. i think tomorrow along the eastern seaboard, you know, they have a lot of snow across much of the northeast last couple years where they're going to get hammered. >> the storm system just putting itself together. it's going to become a nor'easter. you see cold air coming on the back side of atlanta getting pounded by some heavy rain. all of a sudden this going to start to roll in along the coastline and just make its way out in the atlantic enough. that's going to see a law that wrap-around moisture rolling up in that direction. and they're talking about a heavy snow storm, maybe a foot of snow across parts of new york. so you see out there right now, just scattered showers putting itself together some warnings up. their winter storm warnings up there for new jersey. got new york. you've a hempstead.

you've got the newark as well as they're going to see maybe as much as a foot of snow. i mean, that is going to paralyze that place as we head throughout the day tomorrow for them to the north, maybe in the boston area, although looks less likely they're going to see the extent that you're likely to see a little bit for the south. still a dangerous storm that's developing out there right now. and you see here on the computer models picking up here as we move through time, working its way along the coastline. the good news is it is a fast hit or so. they're going to see this tomorrow morning. and by the afternoon, it scooting off the coastline. but you see that wrap-around snow rolling in with that cold air mixing on the backside of that pass a bring us some snow into boston as well. and your going to see a lot of snow, too. so yeah, go public and to see some delays across much of the northeast. right now we're seeing delays in the san francisco. that's some work out there on the tarmac and construction continues there. but across the country, you're likely going to see numerous delays right now. you're looking good out there right now. you've got to temperatures in the 30's and 40's, even some 50's, but no delays being reported. all right. but we do see some

>> other news tonight for teenagers ranging in age from 13 to 15 been arrested, accused of robbing a postal worker in fremont near 3rd street. police say they were caught in a stolen suv. they say 2 of the teens stole a mail truck keys before taking off in apparently in that jeep. police say a similar robbery happened the day before. it's not clear if the same group is suspected in that case as well. police arrested a man after they discovered weapons in his possession during a traffic stop in san mateo. last week's officers say they found 2 loaded guns, ski mask and open marijuana containers after pulling over a car near downtown san mateo. 3 people were in the car at the time. the driver was in possession of a loaded gun and additional gun was found under the driver's seat. he has been booked on several weapons charges. santa from police say 3 people stole a truck full of items from a roofing supply company. investigators say they responded to the company's yard when a norm system was going off friday

night. they say the suspects tried to take off in a truck but an officer caught up and arrested them. police say the stolen goods were valued at about $4,000. more items have been added to the growing list of food being recalled due to possible listeria contamination. officials adding more products that use the recall yogurt, sour cream or cheese. those include salad dressing salad kits and sandwiches. the products are sold. id big retail chains such as trader joe's wal-mart, safeway, costco and others. our website has a list of many of the recalled items that listeria trouble which dates back a decade. he's finally been links back to modesto re. so lopez foods, 2 people have died and more than 2 dozen people have been hospitalized since 2014. elon musk's brain implant company neuralink has moved its legal home from delaware to nevada just a week after musk's pay package from tesla was shot down by a judge. there. the almost

56 billion dollar pay package for the tesla ceo was invalidated at the end of january with a judge in delaware ruling the amount was, quote, unfair. that decision bumped musk off the top spot of forbes list of the wealthiest people. delaware is a popular place for companies to set up operations since it has many laws that favor corporations. but neuralink as its physical headquarters in fremont here in the bay area and in january, musk took to x to say link implant had been put in a human for the very first time. president biden is calling on companies to stop of type of reduced volume sales practice. president biden says it's time for snack companies to stop shrinkflation. the term is used to refer to companies who offer less of their product, but keep the price the same during inflationary times. the president's message came on super bowl sunday, a major snack, feasting day. a report by pennsylvania democratic senator bob casey says many

items decreased in size or volume over the last 4 years or so. but prices rose by more than 20%. president biden's reelection campaign now has an official tiktok page. the page at biden h q was launched yesterday has 47,000 followers. so far the account is noteworthy since tiktok has banned on most u.s. government-issued devices. biden campaign officials say the page is part of an effort to reach voters where they are. you can now own piece of fast presidential history. this famous speed boat was once owned by the late president george hw bush the 1000 horsepower. 38 foot. long boat can reach speeds of 75 miles an hour. the 41st president would use that boat off the waters of kennebunk port maine where the family would vacation the george and barbara bush foundation is auctioning the craft named fidelity. 5 and will use

we get toward the weekend out there right now. beautiful look out of the golden gate bridge, some hazy conditions, but dry weather out there now overnight tonight we'll see a few more clouds begin to move in. temperatures will be cool but not cold. probably mostly overnight lows going to be in the 40's instead of the 30's like this morning. tomorrow, mixture of sunshine and clouds, mild temperatures in the afternoon. showers midweek for your valentine's day. and then the weekend we're talking about stormy conditions may be some heavy rain and some gusty winds. things still very active in the middle of the pacific and they're going to get more. so as we head throughout the week, this storm system affect a bay area on valentine's day, likely to bring some rain our way. but here's the long-range forecast tomorrow. looks pretty good. we'll see some partly cloudy skies. then as we with wednesday, we've got the rain moving in over your valentine's day, especially in the evening hours behind them. we've got a much more significant storm that's going to be causing some gusty winds and rain late on friday into saturday. and then right behind it. we've got another one. this one may be even more significant. this from the center of that area of low pressure gets a lot closer, could be talking about some gusty winds. heavy snow up in

>> 10 african penguin chicks have hatched in just over a year at the california academy of sciences, academy officials say >> the chicks are part of an ongoing conservation effort. african penguins have dwindled to 9,000 breeding pairs in the wild. the chicks at the museum in golden gate park attend fish school where they learn to swim on their own and eat fish given by biologists and once they're ready, they're introduced to the penguin colony. researchers at the university of wisconsin say printed brain tissue could be used to study signaling between cells. that information will help scientists understand how brain cells and parts of the brain communicate in humans. scientists could then potentially use that information to develop treatments for neurological disorders, including alzheimer's and parkinson's disease. a new study from king's college in london scanned 390 babies. brain
