we give you a live overview of san francisco and all those. >> clouds looks like they're hanging over the east bay hills. yeah, we've got rain. and lawrence is here to say this year has. >> how about that snow? usually people out there going fishing right now, right? maybe do a little camping up in the high. i mean, you've got to worry about some snow up there. it has been coming down and not just like a few flakes we've been talking about inches of snow again. still scattered snow showers up there right now. you see 80's see 50 appear. the roadways are open, but that snow dropping all the way down to about 5500 feet. so you plan to head up there, be prepared. there's more snow on the way this the forecast model through saturday. look at that kirkwood. our models are paid. maybe another 7 inches of snow. you're looking at dawn or maybe another 5 inches of snow or so in bear valley, almost about 7 inches of snow. so there's a lot more to calm and temperatures

running very, very cold in the high country to go along with that. a mix of rain and snow for tomorrow. the temperature lake, all about 40 degrees, dry weather expected, but cloudy skies on friday and then on saturday, guess what? another round of some rain and some snow showers and things stay unsettled into next week. back here in the bay area. you've got the clouds outside right now. we've had those showers continuing out there toward the golden gate bridge. little bit slick out there on the roads, too. but the temperatures today well below the average in some cases much as 15 degrees below normal. so if you're like being you felt a little bit cold outside, there's good reason. usually at this time of year, we're hovering in the 70's in many parts of bay area. just can't even get close to that. not right now. really not up for the next 5, 7, days or so. we're going to keep these temperatures very cool. that low pressure center still spiraling along the coastline. it's going to slowly slide down toward southern california, bringing them some showers as well. but we're going to see more that wrap around moisture. we're seeing a push to right now. you've got some pretty good doses of some rainfall moving through

east bay right now seeing some decent amounts of rain as well. but there's more on the way. we'll talk about that coming up in a few minutes, guys. all right, lawrence, in alameda, a new transitional housing development opened on the island. dignity village is now officially open for sleep to go reports. this marks the end of a 14 month project that's aimed at helping to end homelessness. >> chronically homeless. having lived on the streets and in her car in san francisco and the east bay. the only game recently earned a master's degree in fine first resident scheduled to move into village in alameda. what i would call a its >> little on a very graceful, the new transitional housing community on 5th street includes 47 small units,with the bed desk and private bathroom and the property can house up to 61 people out of time. the residents can live here from 6 months to 2 years.

of the communities are, you know, not kept clean and trash all over the place and being a homeowner. you know, for a lot of us, that was a concern. 5 keys will provide routine maintenance of the units and 24 7 property security and janitorial services. >> the project was funded by nearly 15 million dollars in grants from the state's homekey program and from alameda county. >> in alameda, philippe djegal all kron. 4 >> california is one step closer to pay reparations to black residents whose ancestry goes back to slavery. the california reparations task force releasing new details about how much could be owed and the methodology used to determine those the panel is looking at the total financial losses suffered by black californians affected by slavery and institutional racism. an eligible residents who live in california their entire life and who is 71 years old or older could receive as much as 1.2 million

dollars. the task force will meet this weekend in oakland to vote on the proposals. eventually the proposals could be sent on to the legislature for a vote. >> federal reserve announced a quarter point interest rate to hike as part of its ongoing battle to try to stem inflation. and this move comes as concerns inquiries about the economic hardship that could come from failure to reach a deal on the nation's debt ceiling. four's catherine heenan is here to help us understand what's going on, how a lot or maybe not enough, depending on who you talk to. >> the latest interest rate hike does bring us to a 16 year high. the rate is now standing at 5% to 5.2, 5 happening even as the banking crisis has left the economy wobbling and the fact there is still no deal on raising the nation's debt ceiling. the white house says the quarter point increase is needed because the inflation rate remains well above the fed's 2% target. but this is the

10th straight rate hikes since march of last year. and bottom line makes it more expensive for all of us to borrow. there are critics on both sides of the aisle who argue this is risky, especially since congress is still at loggerheads over the government's borrowing limit. the debt ceiling came up today, even as the fed chairman was announcing the rate hike. my colleagues and i understand the hardship that high inflation is causing. >> and we remain strongly committed to bringing inflation back down to our 2% goal. no one should assume. that the fed can protect the economy from the potential, you know, short and long-term effects, a failure to pay our bills on time. again, we understand that there's more work to do >> the president gets that and understands across the country, hardworking americans are struggling to buy groceries that are up and rule america by 20% says joe biden took office. the only real option that does not hurt the american people is a clean bipartisan build. >> to avert to fall. >> all of this, of course,

does put more pressure on congress to avoid a default on the nation's debt. the treasury department says june first is the day when the u.s. could run out of cash. as for interest rate hikes, it is not clear yet whether the fed will hit pause at least for a while. hammond can. catherine, thank you. >> well, one of the bay area's newest millionaires was actually someone who was homeless just 6 years ago. lucy of forces recently bought a california 2023 scratcher ticket at a walmart in pittsburgh while she was getting an oil change and she scratched the top prize. she says that she only bought one ticket and she won 5 million dollars back in 2017. she did not have a place to live and now she plans to buy a home and then invest the rest of her winnings. she also has plans to get married and to get her associate's degree good for her. >> coming up next on kron, 4 news at complaints about being misled by facebook. there's a new ruling by the ftc against the social media giant.

>> federal regulators claim that facebook misled parents and failed to protect the privacy of children using the messenger. kids app. the federal trade commission says that facebook misrepresented the access that it gave out of the data private users. today, the fcc proposed changes to a twenty-twenty privacy order

with facebook. it would prohibit the company from profiting from data that it collects on users under the age of 18. that includes data collected through its virtual reality products as well. the company would also be subject to other limitations such as being required to provide additional protections for users. facebook says that it is going to fight the changes. >> 2.10 year-olds have been found working illegally at a mcdonald's franchise in kentucky. labor department investigators say the children had been working for little or even no pay at a louisville fast food restaurant. but the owner says the children had been visiting their parent to use a night shift manager. and we're not employed in all the investigation of kentucky. mcdonald's franchises found more than 300 children working illegally. restaurants have been cited for child labor violations. the giants will get a 2 out of 3 from the astro's today in houston. coming up next in sports, jason has the highlights. >> tells us that they could be dusty baker and the chance.

>> the oakland zoo is saying goodbye to several of his beloved animals. one of the zoo's most popular residents died of the african elephant is headed to a sanctuary in tennessee in early june. >> down as best friend lisa, another african elephant passed away back in march, maybe down of the only female elephant at the zoo. officials say it's important that donna and to her later stages in life surrounded by other female elephant since they i deeply social animals much more than the male elephants. 2 mountain lions that were rescued. this cubs in santa cruz county will arrive at their foot new forever home this week. hazel and holly became inseparable. lee bonded while they were rehabilitated for months at the oakland zoo. holly was just a tiny cub when a resident found her underneath their death last december. and at 4 months old, hazel was found abandoned in socal in january and weighed just 12 pounds. neither ca had
