>> from the bay area's news station. you're watching kron. 4 news news at 6. >> now at 6, the lights on the bay bridge are set to go dark for good at 8 o'clock tonight after this dazzling city waterfront has glistening like that for the last decade. tonight's the final night. good evening. thanks for joining us here on kron. 4 news at 6. i'm noelle bellow and i'm dan thorn, the creator of the bay lights as the display is failing and he has a plan to replace those lights. >> but it needs 11 million dollars to make it happen. kron 4, sarah stinson at a watch party tonight being held at water bar.

>> along the embarcadero. sarah, what's happening out there? >> well, we have the best seat in the house for that moment. that sad moment that we all been not waiting for, hoping it wouldn't have been. but we have some good news tonight. we'll get to that in a minute. but it will happen at 8 o'clock. the lights will go off. this is the famous. but in that you press and then the lights go off and again, we're going to give you some good news in just a moment because i will say we're very close to making sure that the lights can come back. but in the meantime, take a look at this. this is the bay bridge behind me right here. of course, it's not quite dark enough to have those lights glistening. but, >> you know, it was 10 years ago of the grand lighting for the artist. be a real installed 1.8 miles of lights with 25,000 led ease. unfortunately, the current system is failing at a rate that's faster than it can be repaired. that's because of our harsh weather conditions right here on the bay. >> the whole thing needs your

place and it's not cheap. as you heard earlier cost 11 million dollars to replace the new insulation will feature double the amount ladies, the ceo of the art nonprofit luminaid ben davis. we just spoke with him and he's asking for 10 donors to give 1 million dollars each. the last 1 million dollars will be raised through crowdfunding in tonight. he's got an update ahead of the lights being turned off. >> and this really great news tonight, which is we have 6 million dollars committed. so if there are for 1 million dollar gifts that come in as soon as they come in. this project is a go. we'll keep fundraising. that 11 million. what? we're what we're installing the next wave of it. but we're getting close and it's really it's up to the people of san francisco. it and really, you know who going to be for heroes, who stepped forward to bring those million dollar gets >> so we shall see. maybe someone watching right now wants to donate million dollars to make sure this

project gets started. and as soon as they reach that 10 million dollar goal, then they'll start getting to work. it will take about 8 to 10 months to complete the project and then we'll finally see those lights back on the bridge. so at 8 o'clock tonight, make sure you join us because we do have the best in the house. not everybody can be at the steakhouse. they're going to press the button and the lights are going to go off. so make sure you join us 801. we'll bring it to life back to fant. >> all right, tara, just all kind of patiently waiting for that moment to happen. we want to get you a check of your forecast as it does look like a pretty nice night. we might get a kind of a colorful sunset potentially here. that's a live look there. >> at the bay bridge once again. >> meteorologist rodriguez joining us now with a look at the forecast. a recent. yeah, let's look at rain totals because we saw very active weather today. mother nature certainly did not disappoint pop-up thunderstorms overnight into this morning and even hail storms shortly before

noon today. so we did pick up for santa rosa slightly less than half an inch of rain. but those of you in redwood city slightly more than half an inch of rain of that wet weather. and we're tracking about a 3rd of an inch of rain or less for the rest of the bay area. just with this one storm alone throughout the last 24 hours. but as you can see, radar for still lit up in green, especially for those of you in the north bay petaluma and nevado seeing widespread light rain there. santa rosa, you're beginning to dry out. but we are expecting to see some more active weather shortly before midnight tonight. could see some cells forming out around the san francisco peninsula bar at 10, 11 o'clock this evening. and then once again. >> bright and early for your monday morning commute at 5 o'clock in the morning. and it is going to be an on again off again pattern with some rays of sun as well. very similar to what we saw today. this pattern is going to continue through tuesday. we could pick up about half an inch of rain or less from now through wednesday morning with the return of an atmospheric river

later this upcoming week. more my full forecast in just a few minutes. back to you. dan and noelle thank you. president joe biden joined civil rights marchers in alabama today marking 58 years. >> since blood, he sunday when a group of marchers was beaten by white state troopers as they tried to cross the edmund pettus bridge. the president criticized republicans for trying to whitewash aspects of american history. and today said the civil rights marches of the 60's near the fight for voting rights today. >> conservative supreme court. as good of the voting rights act over the years. the 2020 election. a wave of states. and dozens dozens of and i voting laws. sure by the big lie. and their election and ayers. now elected to office. the president also made a case for stricter gun laws but republicans control the house and can block those efforts. >> and the south bay, a woman out for a hike at rancho san

antonio park in cupertino was struck and killed by a falling tree. this around 10 o'clock this morning. the santa clara county fire department says after pulling the woman out, paramedics treated her but she died at the scene. the park is open. but the trail where this tree fell has been closed. >> in the east bay, a car crashed into an ambulance and a fire engine early this morning and then fled the scene. it happened in the eastbound lanes of highway 4 near loveridge road and pittsburgh around 02:30am. firefighters were at the scene of an earlier 2 car crash when another car crashed into the emergency vehicles and then took off the ambulance had to be towed and the fire truck was taken out of service. first responders were not injured. no word on the injuries of the drivers involved in all of this. either contra costa county fire is reminding drivers to slow down and move over. when approaching accident scenes. remember just a few weeks ago, a tesla driver died after crashing into an emergency vehicle on highway 6.80, in

walnut creek. meanwhile, oakland police are investigating an early morning dog attack. this happened just after 05:00am at the extended stay. america hotel on mandela parkway. police say the victim was attacked by 2 dogs and they were then taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. officers detained a suspect at the scene. animal control took possession of those dogs. police are asking anyone with information about the attack to give them a call. >> the california highway patrol is investigating a non-injury freeway shooting in oakland. this happened just after 11, 30 this morning along 80 southbound just north 5th street officers met the 3 victims, 2 adults and a child and confirmed there were no injuries as a result of the shooting. police say road rage is a possibility, though. victims describe the suspects as 2 men who are in a white nissan sedan with paper plates. police say no suspects have been found. anyone with any information is asked to contact chp.

to the ground. even long enough for viewers to send us videos like this one. we have been seeing hail randomly over the last several weeks. i feel like every time we've got the storms as a chance for meteorologist murray's rodriguez standing by. she's got more on the snow falling in the sierra and what else we can expect here at home. hey there, jen and well, yeah, definitely some more snow showers making its way into this year and fact. >> right now we are seeing those snow showers continuing up to 8 inches expected from now. >> through early monday morning, 30 mile per hour wind speeds for the valleys and for the highest peaks of this year, 70 miles per hour. wind speeds or less. so we've seen several feet of snow within the last couple of days. that's why an avalanche warning for the greater lake tahoe area, in effect from now through early monday morning. so let's take a look at radar for as you can see, we're seeing a mixture of rain and snow showers for parts of santa rosa specially for the highest people. widespread light rain from santa rosa. and even as far south as

timber on and sell salido mill valley as well. seeing those rain showers out there. beautifully lit bay bridge. i am definitely going to miss this site in the next couple of hours. so let's take it all in. but from now, until then, we are still tracking very cool temperatures, mid 50's so 10 degrees below average. fortunately wind speeds now on the calmer side a little bit breezy with gusts upwards of 15 miles per hour or less. but we are tracking calmer conditions throughout the remainder of your night. temperatures out there right now. widespread mid to upper 40's. a little bit milder, though, for mountain dew in san jose in the south bay in the low 50's there with fairfax at 43 degrees and everything else in between. low temperatures tonight, freezing for santa rose at 32 degrees. widespread 30's for the rest of the bay area downtown san francisco about 10 degrees milder at 41 degrees and high temperatures tomorrow, widespread low 50's. so we're going to be about 5 to 15 degrees below average. here's a look at our atmospheric river. that is
