>> learns how long are we going to contend with these wind? yeah, he's going to whip, i think through tomorrow. the strongest coming through tomorrow morning. that looks like it will begin to ease up and even the afternoon you're going to see some brisk winds around the bay area. so blustery out there right now. boy, some of the places really howling. we've had some gusts over 50 miles per hour now. and you can see outside a camera kind of shaking around a bit in the wind out there outoward the en gatbridge. butthe winds, yeah, they're going to be with us here. we've got the advisories for winds going up. a high wind warnings along the coastline. you see the areas shaded in the darker brown expecting some very strong gusty winds throughout the night tonight and early tomorrow morning. and we've seen that already. we've seen some power lines coming down. some trees coming down across the bay area. well, here's a look at some of the current winds right now near beach, getting some 50 mile an hour gusts in the last hour here say with the richmond district. 48 mile an hour gust. 38 in the last hour here

at sfo. but they've already had a gust of over. 52, even in millbrae. 43 mile an hour gusts specific over 50 miles an hour. you get the idea. so even inside the bay, you think more wind sheltered spot. you're still see some gusts over 40 miles 40 miles an hour in spots. 43 in newark, 39 and sell or rent 36 mile hour gust in san leandro. so trees coming down likelihood overnight tonight and continuing into tomorrow. in fact, this system that's coming through now, that's really been a boundary between one cold front. another bringing that cold area and really get those winds crank up. here's the forecast for some of the winds overnight tonight. you see by tomorrow morning, although they do begin to subside, still very strong along the coastline. then by the afternoon, those wind should begin to back off and then we start to talk about some snow. another story we're following for you. the former president jimmy carter. he continues hospice care at his home in georgia and the 39th president made the decision to and traditional

beautiful memories. >> never thought i would be in here that i thought i would. part of carter's life. and as we've been reporting over the past couple of days, the carter family is asking privacy at this time. however, the carter center has set up a web site for people to express their love, appreciation and support. >> the former president and his family. we'll have a place dump truck for news jericka. just a quick question. you know, the president generating so much good. will it? do you have any update? >> on on how he's feeling right now. >> and not right now, we don't really have any information on that beyond what was released on saturday. his decision to go into hospice and that he was resting, comes comfortably in his home that that's really all the information we know right now. we are waiting any updates. but again, as we mentioned at the family is requesting privacy at this time. and so many of us are respecting that. but any new updates will be coming from the family were from the carter center. course. alright, thank you. derek derek dellinger reporting live

for us. >> from plains, georgia, have a good thing. >> as homelessness continues to grapple the state. some assembly members have introduced legislation they hope will address the issue head on kron four's capitol correspondent eytan wallace gives us a look at the proposals and shares what lawmakers say is needed to cut through all that red tape. well, keep in mind, the state has spent billions of dollars to address homelessness and members i spoke with here says the spending continues. they want to see accountability and results and they hope to achieve that with new pieces of legislation. >> homelessness members from both parties at the state capitol agree it's one of the issues, if not the issue. top of mind across california really want to put forward real solutions to homelessness, things that are actually going to solve the issue, not band-aid solutions. that's exactly what assembly member of people are. she also says she wants to accomplish with 3 bills he just introduced among them a proposal to remove cost barriers are fees for people experiencing homelessness specifically when they apply

for state issued id ease. >> and other records or documents people need id's just to get a job to get housing, to get social services. you the id is such a critical piece of what you need to be able to get on your feet and get stabilized. >> and house and another bill from szabo aims to simplify the process for builders. applying for state funds for low-income and homeless related construction projects. right now, there are 4 different agencies at the statewide level that you have to apply for to get funding to build either homeless or low-income housing and they have different deadlines. and then if you miss a deadline, you'll have to wait until the next year to be able to apply. and that means the cost of labor goes up. the cost of building materials goes up. and if taxpayers are funding those projects, that means the taxpayers are eating so we really want to streamline that process. we can get this housing online as as as fast as people really need it. the 3rd proposal from szabo calls for cities and counties to share their plans to address

homelessness. something that goes hand-in-hand with the bill from assembly member lose reeve us if signed the release proposal would require local government to use state funds for homeless related matters to publicly share their goals. if the goals are not met, the funds could be transferred to other local governments where they're seeing success over the last few years. california invested. >> and nearly 10 billion dollars on homelessness. but a lot of our constituents still see, you know, homeless encampments. they see, you know, not enough permanent housing being built. and so they want to know what is the state getting for the money that it's investing. >> and we, of course, will track these bills. the first approval from various committees over the coming months and only with that approval can make it to the floor for a vote reporting from the state capitol. eytan wallace kron. 4 news. >> coming up, the benefits of a four-day workweek. the largest study of its kind is revealing about the impact on them. plus, another brand of baby formula is being

>> and from el proceso be simply plant-based. baby formula is being taken off the shelves. the fda says it could have been contaminated with the bacteria that can cause serious illness in babies. no illnesses have been reported so far. the manufacturer reckitt is pulling about 145,000 cans of this formula. the product in question has a

use by date of march. first 2024. consumers who have the formula should throw it out or return to the place of purchase for a refund. you can find more information at fda dot gov. a big trial of a four-day workweek has shown positive results. workers say they love it because they >> get spend more time with their kids. employers say they've seen an increase in productivity and fewer sickouts more than 60 companies. and some 2900 employees in the uk participated in this trial. employees got full pay while working just 4 days a week about two-thirds of them say they were better able to combine their jobs with childcare responsibilities. the thai men spent looking after the kids went up 27% went up 13% among women. >> still ahead, why leaders in the east bay want to ban on new liquor stores being built?

>> a new liquor stores been approved to open in the city of antioch. yeah, but some neighbors pretty upset saying that the city needs more healthy options, not more places to buy. kron four's ella sogomonian. a live for us in the newsroom with more on the debate. what comes next? well they can grant. that's right. critics point out that there are plenty of other places to buy alcohol within one square mile of the approved site last week. now planning commission gave the green light for a new liquor store to open in the

summersville area. since then, the vice chair of parks and rec commission says more than 150 people have signed a petition against it. residents say they're worried that it may attract more crime. and again, point out that antioch needs more budget, grocery stores and healthier options rather than another liquor store. given that there are 50 active liquor licenses, citywide, according to council member monica wilson. last time something. >> comes our community development department comes to planning commission and just, you know, gets passed and nobody not really taken a step back to saying how many of these do we have in this area? is oversaturation oversaturation and then where he's going 9 times out of 10. they all they always end up no matter what city or community here in the always end up in our underserved and low-income communities. >> councilmember wilson suggests a mayor lamar thorpe put a hold on the approval instead starting appeals process for the liquor store application. she did clarify that she didn't make a firm decision yet, but we'll hear

out proponents and the applicant. she did, however, propose a ban on future liquor stores and called on thorpe to prohibit new applications for 45 days in the newsroom. ella sogomonian kron. 4 news. >> thank you, ella. happening tonight in the east bay, parents and families in the mount diablo unified school district are being invited to a community meeting to discuss recent problems with racism and bullying and fighting school. district leaders say they want to be proactive about dealing with these issues in some of the schools there. they say in some cases there have been multiple racist incidents in one instance, a student at diablo view, middle school handed out cotton in what has been described as a bad joke attempt mocking black history month. the school district's condemning these acts saying, quote, all of these incidents are forms of bullying. we have also had several fights at our schools between different groups of students, bullying and fighting have no place it

any. and the usd school a meeting is set to take place at 06:30pm, tonight. that set pine hollow middle school to allow parents to express their concerns directly to the district to the south bay. now google's plan for a mega campus in downtown san jose is facing some obstacles that are forcing the company. >> to reassess that project at stake. 25,000 jobs as well as 155 million dollars for the city. that money would be used to help the city handle its homeless population. but the money won't come unless google employees are inside those offices. the news comes as google looks to get out of its obligations at several of its office sites. all right. whether time now when the story of the day, maybe snow later this week. but look at that. the embarcadero in san francisco. >> palm trees ripped in the flag above it. just to say yeah. speaking of breezy, look who just.

>> yeah. just a role in the town here we've got some of those winds whipping around out there tonight. some dangerous winds out there. you've got to really be careful with along the coastline, seeing the sand blowing out toward the ocean beach and well, of course, those trees coming down as well. tonight, those winds will continue throughout the night and it's going to be cold. we've got advisories for some of the cold temperatures overnight tonight. frost again. so freeze warnings likely going to be going into effect as that very cold air just begin to move in. and so what a change it's been 24 hours. but here we go. temperatures today instead of those numbers, i headed up in the 70's. well early. 54 degrees in san francisco today. some 50's and 60's elsewhere around the bay area. freezing temperatures. yeah, we're watching for more frost developing along the coastline inside the bay. freeze warnings going to watch out for that right now. just to watch as we head into wednesday and thursday, that's going to be probably upgraded to a warning. some of these temperatures, even with some of the clouds moving through this pretty amazing down the upper 20's. so very cold air in place up there right now.

the temperatures getting chilly already. you've got 40's in the downtown san francisco. 49 degrees. 49 and berkeley, 50 degrees and of 46 in fairfax. but here comes that cold air just rolling down. you can see that cold front coming through in rushing in that much colder air in across the bay area. and so now over the next 24 hours really going to see these changes in effect. a couple of pop-up snowshowers, a likelihood you see that right there over the mountain tops. how about that and make sure some sleet and some snow across the mountains that's going to probably drop to about 1500 feet, maybe even lower than that. i think kind of a magic time is about thursday night into friday morning. i think that we'll see some of the coldest temperatures. and so we're going to keep that on and off. scattered showers. look at that may be over amount. am seeing some snow moving in by thursday 02:30am. and that we'll continue to in effect as we're going to see more of those snow showers rolling on and with more rain off and on throughout the bay area. so here's the future. snow total forecast. how about that? you know, get to that very often

in the bay area. but the models now, as we look to the next few days, start to paint significant amounts of snow into the santa cruz mountains. you get over to mount hamilton. maybe we start talking upwards of 6 inches. maybe 12 inches of snow. so some very heavy snow, real possibility the peaks there. and how about that? winter weather advisories going up across the santa cruz mountains, boulder creek, that moment. scotts valley watch out. likely got some snow coming your way. not as much as part of the east foothills as you make your way toward mount hamilton. still impressive snow on and off. it looks like into the weekend. while florence. next up, a story that's unfolding. sounds more like a movie. cat survives a 14 month long journey from alabama. >> to las vegas now the family who found the kitty is trying who found the kitty is trying to get her ho

know, in final last animal, you want to make calls being put up flyers in hopes, you know that the owners are close by reunite that if possible. but for one family in vegas, they realize the cat they found was a long way from home. victoria saha reports. >> they say cats have 9 lives and who knows how many raevyn the cat is used up. it looks like she was in an engine when somebody started it and hurt near may have been burned. elizabeth mcgloin found raven in her neighborhood close to the 2.15 and low. see earlier

this month knowing somebody out there could be missing their kitty. a glowing took raven to get her microchip scanned and found were her owner lived. i was like. >> heck did they can't get here? ravens microchip showed she wasn't just a few minutes away from home. raven was from alabama. somehow she made the nearly 2000 mile trip all the way to las vegas. but the question is how do we get raevyn back home? she's scared and she wants to go home. i just don't have the funds together there. over in birmingham, alabama, ravens owner tracy cost got a call. she's been desperately waiting for. i can't believe she is allowed. i thought i was never going to find her costs as raven got out december of 2021 weeks certian starched and could not find her on to lose. a catchy has had since it was just a few days old was

>> from the bay area's news station. you're watching kron. 4 news at 6. >> now at 6 people driving to san francisco from the east bay this evening can expect severe delays after high winds down a tree near the yerba buena tunnel. the california highway patrol says that the tree fell about 3 o'clock this afternoon and blocked 3 westbound lanes on the right side of the roadway. the left side of the screen is showing a live look at the traffic at island right now. and you can see just how heavy that traffic in it. >> damage also in the north bay, a big tree knocks down by the strong winds. you see there fell on a car that caused a power outage in a neighborhood in santa rosa. fire crews are on the scene to try to get that tree out of there. the good news is nobody was hurt. thanks for joining us for kron. 4 news at 6. i'm ken wayne. i'm pam moore. the national weather service is
