as well. now winds are present, especially out to the delta and along the coastline add to that brisk feel so jackets are indeed some really good advice. radar shows you the storm system spinning off to the west of us. all it's done for us is result in a few clouds here. and there aside from that, this forecast is about to clear out and warm up really nicely for your president's day weekend. i'm talking all the details about it. still ahead. now, as far as our roads go, we have seen some backups here and there bay bridge is doing absolutely great. but for those of you traveling down 8.80, in the east bay, we do have a traffic collision south of fremont that has resulted in a major backup there. the left lane blocked and it's pretty slow and go from fremont all the way to where 80 in the dumbarton bridge connects. so be mindful of that. bridges, though, are doing really good san mateo bridge. it's a 13 minute drive. sunny at the richmond center fell and below 10 minute drive and the golden gate bridge doing good to your typical 21 minutes from novato to the tolls.

>> thank you very much, john. time now is 9 o'clock. and let's get to what's happening right now in the south bay where police in san jose looking for a woman accused of kidnapping her 2 year-old daughter officers found the little girl safe and unharmed in oakland, but her mother still remains at large. >> kron four's will tran is live in san jose with the latest on the search. the search continues for the mother, crystal mendez, the san jose police officers are looking all over the bay area. >> but more importantly, they are no longer searching for the 2 year-old girl who was taken from her home in san jose. she was not found in the city. in fact, she was found in oakland thanks to surveillance footage they were able to at least know her approximate location. footage from 2 location. one was a light rail station in san jose. the other was from the oakland coliseum, bart station. they zeroed in and that's when they were able to find the 2 year-old baby at a relative's home in oakland. as

far as what happened, this all went down on wednesday afternoon when the mother who does not have custodial rights to her child, went to a home in san jose took the child and that's when the police officers were tipped off and they searched everywhere. fortunately, they were able to find the baby girl. they checked out everything on her. seems like everything is fine. she's not with her dad right now. she will be reunited very soon. unfortunately, this is not the first time for san jose to track down a baby that was taken without permission. it was several months ago last year just about a mile and a half from this location. the police department. but the san jose police department had to track down another baby that was kidnapped. fortunately, in both cases, the children were not injured. as far as crystal mendez, they believe she has ties to south to san francisco, but she does not have a permanent residents and that they say that she was a

drug user. >> okay. thank you very much. well, >> and happening right now, the man charged for the deadly home explosion in san francisco is in court yet. 53 year-old darren price facing multiple charges. now. >> could very well enter a plea today. kron four's michael thomas has more from san francisco. >> daryn, price is currently facing multiple felony charges. now, this explosion not only cost him his home, but also killed his 51 year-old wife. take a look. this is the scene still today. officials say when they arrived, they found what appeared to be an illegal drug lab in sight. now this 53 year-old man, darren price. he's being arraigned this morning and charged with the following involuptary manslaughter manufacturing a controlled substance, 4 counts of reckless burning, 2 counts of child endangerment. and one count of elder abuse. this is all in connection to last week's home explosion. that happened just after 9.30, on the 22nd avenue in san francisco sunset district explosion not only killed price's wife. it also completely destroyed their

home injured, another person and damaged neighboring homes. leaving them read tech and investigators say they recovered suspected butane tanks, ovens and other materials all consistent with processing hash oil and volatile solvents. a jar of the suspected product was tested and contain acetone along with other dangerous flammable solving its. you can see that the scene is still very much damaged with many people walking by throughout the day. >> just to take a look, there is some flowers are left here for his wife was passed away. he set to arrive in court again right now at 9 o'clock. so we're headed to the courthouse to go ahead and get the latest information for you. but that is all the information we have right now. michael thomas will send it back to studio. >> michael, thank you. also happening right now, the art gallery owner charge for spraying a homeless woman with water. he's set to appear in court as well. you may remember this viral video showing shannon gwin spring that homeless woman with water while she was sitting on the sidewalk. we're now facing a battery charge for that. he's

expected to enter pleas. we said it could face a $2000. fine, perhaps even up to 6 months in jail if convicted. in the east bay. at least one person is dead and another in custody. now after a stabbing in fremont. this incident happened about 4 o'clock or so in the afternoon. police say someone called in a report to it fight of some sort between 2 man near stevenson boulevard and paseo padre parkway. when police got on scene. that's when they found one of the men on the ground with severe injuries. it was that person who later died. a suspect is in custody as the city's first homicide of the year. >> san francisco police double down on keeping its streets are rather they're doubling down on keeping streets free of workers. police revealed a new enforcement strategy to keep work from happening on cap street. well, 4 sarah stinson spoke with the assistant police chief about the plan. >> as apd assistant chief david luiz are says they've been finding success with the new d coy operation. that's

where a female officer goes out on to cap street pretending to be a worker and then issues a citation to a potential client or john have a lot of workers that are on cap that we 18 into 18th and 22nd street. >> and you have a lot of vehicle traffic and people are out a lot of noise associated with that sfpd assistant chief david luiz are describing what he saw last friday night when he walked cap street. >> the san francisco police department is cracking down on john's coming to cap street the most recent d coy operation took place on february 15th. here's video from that night. police issued 7 citations to from. >> half moon bay, one from palo alto and 4 from san francisco who came to our city and came to cap street for the purposes of soliciting workers going to be hard for a john to explain to their family why they received a citation cap street once a john is cited, they are referred to the first

defender prostitution program where they allow individuals to solicit. >> workers to go to a class and pay a fine. so that is definitely an option. but sometimes we find individuals have arrest warrants. and in that case will actually physically take them under arrest. police say so far no citations have been given to workers. these are human trafficking victims for the most part. and what we're going to focus on is getting resources to these individuals to see if we can get them out of this lifestyle to stop the behavior barriers have been put on cap street as another strategy to prevent john's from cruising the area for workers supervisor hillary ronen's for did that after receiving several complaints from people who live there, many of the barriers put in place have been run over by drivers. so the city plants but stronger barriers out within the next week. meanwhile, the police department has motorcycle patrols issuing traffic citations issued approximately 30 citations since. >> last friday night, we have our traffic officers on motorcycles that are out there

detailed alleged misconduct by multiple officers, including the former chief. but many people, as you just heard earlier are questioning whether the firing was the right move. >> you can just go to the side that pushes your envelope and talk to them about the issues of this city. we and we all matter and we all should be heard on the same level. >> we have elected. we have voted for a police commission. yes, that police commission was not given the this is a problem. we have no trust in our democracy. we have no trust at all. like the group as it plans to participate in a larger rally in support for armstrong coming up on monday. >> fired armstrong exactly 30 days after she put him on paid administrative leave and the mayor had a chance to sit down with kron 4 to talk about why that was and why she feels she made the right call. >> in the department, there is a rule that says discipline must given within 30 days. and

that was also part of the recommendation from the federal monitors as well, too, as part of the many different problems of the city must follow. and so following that, i have, you know, i had wished to be able to get a recommendation and that's what it was. was just a recommendation from the police commission on how we move forward. but unfortunately, they were unable to schedule a meeting in time. >> well, the mayor has her supporters and civil rights attorney jim cain is one of them. he was one of the lawyers involved in the 2003 negotiated settlement agreement with the oakland police department. that was created following explosive case of officer misconduct for the city paid out nearly 11 million dollars and agreed to dozens of reforms. mccain is also on the committee that offered armstrong the job of police chief. and he says he read all the confidential reports. he listened to the dozens of injuries that were conducted as part of this investigation. and he believes that the mayor, again made the right choice. he says the way in which our strong fought to keep his job, he doesn't think

how beautiful how yeah. along highway 50, we could see the roads are clear, which is great. and the hills are covered in snow which is exactly what we want to kevin cooper standing by with a look at what we expect coop. >> good morning both those roads. look nice and safe. that's what we want to see. >> absolutely. it's an easy drive to get up here this weekend. highway 50 i-80 opened a chain controls were not look at the indy weather over the weekend. maybe starting tuesday. but i'll tell you what, we are set up for residents. wake about operation santa prepared, the balance for you. and we are 100% open with some of the best conditions that we've had since 2017 right here in this year at your backyard will tell us that because we haven't had some snow in a while. but what are we talking about in terms of a base will kind of snow we looking at? you're looking at really good midwinter shapes now. so the temperatures have been unusually cold for us. here's what happened just after we get all those storms in december and early january. temperatures start to warm up. we get a freeze. thaw that going on. it's been cold up

here this morning and tracking it was -2 down a sound bite out 7 degrees. we're talking about 32 degrees right now. but behind me got bluebird skies. so the mount he's been able to really keep that snow in midwinter ship. it is a little for him in the morning, but nothing like we normally see after those january storms moving into february. so you're looking at mid winter shape, but that's everywhere. that's even in the back country where we have low above near and below treeline conditions right now. so it's a really good time to enjoy president's week here in the sierra. >> and cooper, is there certain, you know, gear and equipment. people should be bringing with them to make sure that they're comfortable on that trip up to the sierra. >> absolutely. you know, i'd be bringing appear to be out of the mountain, bring those extra layers up there in a warm-up today. maybe 30 to 34 degrees. but on your way out, no matter what, even though we don't see snow really in the forecast starting until tuesday, still have that emergency road kit. have your flares. have those little be? could just in case you have to pull over, will take a gas

water sleeping bag. a little bit of food in your car. ev vehicle. have a full charge of regular vehicle, have a full tank of gas. but right now it's going to be a great weekend ahead. all the resorts of amazing activities events going on. it's going to be a great president week ahead. you know, you mentioned some snow coming your way this coming week. so >> i know we're going to be a little rain down here. what are you guys expecting up there? >> it looks like these early forecast models, the euro, the gfs. right now we're looking at anywhere about 24 inches down towards the kirkwood area, down towards 15 inches around donner area. but what's really nice about it, we've got some very large systems early on started just after christmas. but what this looks like, it's like a 3 age $0.6, kind of set up as it goes through the week. it's going to be cold to snow levels will be down about 4,005 1000 feet. so it's going to be a perfect refreshed as we wind out february and get into the big month of march. >> how about that, ok, cook, thank you so much for carving out some time. rather be out enjoying what you will let you

a little bit this weekend just as we're seeing in the bay area. sunshine comes back out in full force. still not too warm, though. so this is really ideal skiing and travel conditions. >> heading back to monday, president's day looking good to do so. and then that inclement weather arrives into next week and it's going to do so with additional snowfall in the sierra and some additional rainfall in the bay area. now we do is have a system churning just offshore. it's done nothing for us but result in a little bit of cloud cover. that system actually moves out of the picture as high pressure builds in this weekend. that's going to ensure that we remain mild and dry in the days to come and really nicely placed a being that it is a three-day weekend for some of us. and you're going to spend that three-day weekend under sunshine and temperatures a little warmer than average saturday warmer than today and sunday. even warmer than that. yet being the very warmest of your forecast. so go ahead, step outdoors, whether it's the sierra right here in the bay. we'll be in the upper 50's to low 60's for san francisco and at the coast today as well as

along the bayshore burlingame at 61 south san francisco at 62 looking at 62 says well, from mountain view up to san mateo and the south bay. daytime highs as warm as the mid 60's. san jose at 64 today. fremont hayward at 62 0 clinton. i 62 as well. concord, much the same lot of us that that number today, pittsburgh in antioch, 61 for your highs and looking at a nice 63 in santa rosa tomorrow. a little bit warmer and sunday, the peak of it all at 65 degrees on average for highs. lots of sunshine and dry skies for the weekend. really emphasizing getting outside this weekend because you can see what happens towards the tail end of the forecast. daytime highs steadily fall back to the low 50's by wednesday and thursday, brisk winds kicking up on tuesday and by wednesday night into thursday morning, cold showers arriving showers that will continue into the following weekend and very likely into the following week. now, as far as our roads go, we are looking good. it is truly friday. light on our bridges bay bridge. any minute

an instagram post. willis's family says the actor has been diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia. we spoke with doctor bill sealy in rolla just at ucsf about this rare form of the disease. >> temple to mention to you see a sort of slowly progressive decline and it's a heterogeneous so sometimes the decline as more and that social emotional, wrong where there is a change in behavior at work or at home times. it's mentioned decline line which functions and those would clues a family member, doctor that something was was going on. pretty but limited. the city's most of the treatments are targeting specific symptoms, but they don't really alter the course of i'm finding treatments and cures for this is huge research priority. it's one of the reasons you know, raising

awareness of disease is so important. >> willis stepped away from acting last year after being diagnosed with aphasia, which also affects people's memory. >> i-25 is the time and in pennsylvania with senator john fetterman back in the hospital now after he checked himself in thursday to treat clinical depression. the democratic senators still recovering from a stroke that he suffered last may and voluntarily opted for inpatient treatment. fetterman's chief of staff says that he was experiencing depression on and off throughout his life, but it became more severe in recent weeks as he began his senate term in washington. the federal judge has threatened to revoke sam bankman-fried's bail on thursday, which means the fda's founder could find so back in jail as he awaits trial. the latest hearing concern bankman-fried's use of a virtual private network or vpn to access the internet even after he was ordered not to use the internet in any way that the government couldn't track. the disgraced former

>> 9.29. this morning. welcome back to the kron. 4 morning news. let's get a quick check of the we've got a nice shot here. the golden gate bridge, beautiful sunshine out there. john. >> just wait for it. to warm up a base. i do. it's the waiting game for that nice afternoon that, you know, is on its way, but still chilly for the time being even with that sunshine that we've got, which has made for a beautiful morning golden gate bridge love to actually be able to see it. you're caesars, our view. >> because, you know, in those clouds roll and you can't see much of it. sometimes we are in the midst of some temperatures climbing back into the 50's for a few spots. half moon bay, alameda in berkeley. you're there now same for bodega bay while most of the rest of us still holding on to your 40's. but we are climbing out of those 30's so improvements. now, we are also seeing some breezy spots, especially out of the delta. so keep those jackets close at hand. for now, we had a storm system spinning just offshore. this is exiting the region as we speak. so that means increasingly clear conditions in a really nice and dry weekend ahead of us.

i've got all the details on what to expect for your president's day weekend. all still to come. now, as far as our roads go is about to be picking up later today, i'm sure many of you have got your travel plans for the three-day weekend. but right now it is truly friday light. a 9 minute drive from the maze to fremont street san mateo bridge, a 12 minute hall across the span there. and the richmond center fell bridge a 7 minute drive. definitely at the limit. golden gate bridge looks just as good from this perspective. 20 minutes from novato to the tolls. stephanie james. >> thank you very much, john. 9.31, here's a story where the kids were playing are calling it a game. but some of the adults in the east bay that are watching it happen or a little bit worried. we're talking about this game were teenagers primarily seniors in high school, spend the year hunting each other and shooting each other with nurse style guns will. this is not a new game, but given the recent headlines, police are raising some red flags. >> as kron four's dan thorn reports, it's also happening on some high school campuses.

>> it's called assassins senate's where seniors are broken up into teams and the shooting each other with nerf darts and and whoever gets the most points wins. some parents tell us it's just for fun, but others say it sends the wrong message considering the country's rash in mass shootings and they're hoping the school district will help put an end to it. it's these darts and nerf that are being used for a shooting game among seniors at monte vista high school in danville. >> the game is called assassins and the team with the most kills and fewest casualties ways. i just don't see anything positive coming out of this at all. blackhawk resident andrea parnas says students should not be playing this game because it promotes violence. the blackhawk police chief responded to her concern by sending out a notice in saying there have been just to non-criminal calls involving players. part nasa is worried the police and the school are making light of what she considers a serious issue with all of the school shootings

that we're hearing about and actually becoming numb to. i don't see. what good can come from this. jesse stock is a senior at monte vista and he's a player in the assassins game. she says it's not supposed to be played at the school, but some kids might be breaking the rules. stock also money prize. each group has to pay 20 bucks. each person who enters the game. >> $20 and our whole senior class is playing a san ramon valley unified school. district spokesperson says they are not aware of the shooting game being played on campus. they do not condone this game and tell kron 4 we do not allow weapons on our campuses regardless if they are real or not. toys, nerf guns and lookalikes are not permitted in our monte vista parents who did not want to show their face on camera, says the game is just harmless fun. no concern for me and my kids. we talked about it. they think it's fun. doesn't scare anyone. but for others, it's very scary to be doing a game.

>> called assassins and to be racking up kills. to me is just appalling. >> the school district says they will be monitoring for any bad behavior that may result from this game. but for now, there have been no reports of any issues at monte vista high school reporting in danville, dan thorn kron. 4 news. >> to san mateo county now where the man accused of murdering 7 of his co-workers at 2 farms in half. moon bay has pleaded not guilty. julie's out you see here is facing 7 counts of murder. one count of attempted murder. the district attorney couldn't say much about the case because of judge has issued a gag order. but kron four's legal analyst steven clark says that gag orders there because the shooting has received national attention. it could very well make it difficult to find an impartial jury in san mateo county. in fact, he believes the defense could request a change of venue to a different county to ensure the child gets a fair trial. as we know, joe is scheduled to be back in

court on may 3rd and we will continue following the story. >> and walnut creek police arrested an 18 year-old man in connection with a threat made at last lomas high school. the campus was put on lockdown last friday after staffers got a phone call from someone threatening to shoot up the school. police had everyone shelter in place while they searched the campus. no weapons were found. the suspect 18 year-old domonique costello is charged with felony criminal threats and a misdemeanor for causing a false emergency report. he's being held at the martinez jail on $27,000. >> new this morning, brentwood police now warning people about scammers pretending to be from the computer security company norton anti-virus and one incident. police say that a fake representative from the company told the victim had to cancel their subscription by using a web browser on their laptop. but then the scammer was able to remotely access the laptop and then accessed the bank account information for that victim. there was another case where fake representative told the victim

that the company had accidentally deposited a large sum of money into the victim's bank account and needed to access it to be able to transfer the money back. police say if you're unsure whether you're being scammed, give them a call first to they can help you determine that. especially before giving out any of your personal information. we're sending money. >> well, the officials in san francisco are warning residents about a street drug popular on the east coast that's made its way into the city. officials with the city's department of public health say this drug called tranq is better known as i was in and they add the drug has been found to be mixed with fentanyl. trank they say is not an opioid but a veterinary tranquilizer doctor. jeff hom with the san francisco department of public health says trent is a very common drug in philadelphia with 90% of it being found in opioid samples. he says that his department is working hard to come back. this drug. >> we do not believe at this time that is widely circulating in san francisco's drug supply, but that we are actively working to increase

the murderous super villain megalomaniac kang. the conqueror, the best character in the movie played by jonathan majors for movies like devotion in the soon-to-be released creed. 3, the quantum realm is where scott lang, aka paul rudd's ant-man and his loved ones and accidently been transported. revealing a big secret involving came the conqueror that must be resolved before they can try to return home while the movie tries to have the gravitas of one of the great marvel movies of the past like iron man or any of the avengers movies. it's really only marvel light trying to be too many things to too many people at one time. marvel movies have always had a touch of laughs. but this one was working overtime with the constant one-liners often at times, seemingly out of place, it's tiny, 2 hour length packs in plenty of sci-fi battles and ant-man shrinking and expanding but not enough to engage you, especially the way marvel movies and the comic

cost to ride golden gate transit may be going up as soon as this july. the district says it's facing a projected 5 year deficit of more than 400 million dollars because ridership just hasn't come back to pre-pandemic levels. so going to be holding public meetings right now to get input on their proposed fare increases. there are 4 different proposals are looking at 2 of them include an increase of about $0.25 for each of the next 5 years. the other would raise cash fares by either 3 or 4% for trips between the north bay and san francisco. if approved, the price increases would go into effect for buses and ferries and paratransit beginning july 1st. >> happening now, tesla is issuing a software update for more than 300,000 vehicles that have its full self-driving system. problems include the way the system behaves and intersections. and with following speed limit. this recall does cover 2016 to 2023 model s and model x cars. the 2017 to 2023 model 3 and
