10:18 pm
that should be near your average low. so you were 12 degrees below normal. widespread low to mid 50's today because of that cooler winter storm didn't really bring us much rain. just about a 10th of an inch of rain or less for most of the bay area. highest amounts for those of you in concord. you actually saw 7, 1, 107 inch of rain. but it did bring us this cold snap and because of that lack a blanket of storm cloud cover over golden gate bridge and most of the bay area. we're actually going to cool down to those subfreezing temperatures that i showed you specifically for coal dust, inland valleys in the north bay and east bay. but we are seeing widespread mid to upper 40's already cooling down in fairfax. 38 degrees because you're not seeing any wind speeds were actually tracking northerly winds in the north bay. keeping temperatures are mild right now mid to upper 40's, but high temperatures tomorrow. 48 degrees below average. widespread low to mid 50's fremont and santa rosa. 55 degrees. so few degrees below normal. but concord and livermore barely warming up

of football, which i completely understand. so take a load off. get comfy. i'm jason dumas and you're watching sports night live over the last 8 weeks or so. the san francisco forty-niners became a juggernaut simply dominant on both sides of the ball with playmakers everywhere and their third-string quarterback ended up being the best quarterback on the roster. it really felt like everything was just falling into place for the niners. but then they ran in to this philadelphia defensive line, a unit that changed everything with one hit on brock purdy. let's head out to south philadelphia to see how it all played out and there is brock purdy looking for his 8th straight win to become the first rookie quarterback to lead his team to the super bowl. the niners missed an opportunity here for count jalen hurts. gets out the pocket. you find the van tate smith for the catch, but not so fast. my friend. that ball
10:32 pm
hits the ground. the eagles do a great job at hurrying up to the line of scrimmage. they snapped the ball. the forty-niners can challenge in that play led to this miles. sander with the touchdown. eagles lead 7, nothing. all right. here was really to play of the game for some reason. kyle shanahan had a backup tight end guarding us on reddick. one of the best defensive players of football. he drills brock purdy. that's a strip but he hurts purdy elbow party would have to leave the game. all and one more. one more look at that elbow. all right. now, josh johnson comes in as a backup and when you have a backup in, you have to lean on the run. christian mccaffrey, look at this play. phenomenal. he played so well today. and we're tied up. later in the second hurt. he gets it to miles. sanders. after a long
10:33 pm
drive will get back to this driver later in the show. touchdown eagles, 14, 7. all right. but more bad news for san francisco. 3rd quarter. eagles defensive line. so good today. drills josh johnson best make he will be ruled out with concussion. he would not return final seconds of the 3rd qb sneak 40 eagles as jalen hurts. he scores that make it 28 7 ball game after johnson's head injury, purdy would return. he can throw the ball tonight as we're only attempted 3 passes the rest of the game. eagles win it. 31 to 7. they're heading to super bowl. 57, our own kate rooney was at lincoln financial field to see this one play out. the forty-niners came just short of a true fairy tale this season after brock purdy went from mister relevant to rewriting the rookie history
10:34 pm
books, his storybook season ended here tonight at lincoln financial field in the nfc championship game against the philadelphia eagles. pretty was able to complete just 4 passes in the game. >> before getting injured on his right throwing elbow an injury which he described as extremely painful. that's when fourth-string quarterback josh johnson came in the game and struggled before he too, would end up leaving after sustaining a concussion. first forty-niners season in which the quarterback position has faced so much adversity. it was a fitting if disappointing ending. >> he news i i'm not going throw the ball. also. you might as well have that's all those come essentials. you know, half what else you got to do it's going to roll over and die or go out there and found the physical and now. giving you can to put something on tape >> we found a bruck's is kind of it differently. puts a damper on things. but we've been through it multiple times
10:35 pm
this year and we've prevailed. we still have a lot of hope. we can throw the ball and they know and they know that i'm not going to be there on the ball either because they're not allow that to happen is tough. definitely not a drone up. >> purdy will get an mri tomorrow to learn the extent of the injury. and after that, his story will instantly become one of the most intriguing of the nfl offseason. what's going to happen at the forty-niners quarterback position for tonight at lincoln financial field. kate rooney, sports night live. >> thanks, kate. we'll hear from her later in the show. now on the eagles side job is now the second time in 5 seasons. the eagles will play in the super bowl. they 1, 1, a couple seasons ago. now they have 7 guys from that last super bowl team on this evil roster. head coach nick sirianni is now in his second season as the head coach. he took the birds to the playoffs
10:36 pm
year one in now has them in the super bowl in year 2. what a start to people's career. it was a tough game for the niners, obviously losing your quarterback early and then losing your backup quarterback. but sirianni gave kudos to purdy for trying to get it out. >> he had that thing on his arm. so we figured even i probably couldn't throw it down the field. but we don't really truly know. we knew they'd like to do some screens in that scenario because it's a short pass. we knew they're going to run to to try to keep them out. you know, keep in some some danger there. i got a lot respect for brock just he came back in and ton of respect for him because i know it obviously was hurting and that, you know, by and that's what my guys, all my all my people, former teammates over at iowa state said about the guy. i know that the kids a winner in easton. the obviously showed a great toughness today to come back in when his team was in a bind. >> all right. now, speaking of those injuries are going to take another look at him.
10:37 pm
here's the first mistake from the niners that's a backup tight end right there across. some he had the second most sacks in the nfl this tackles get paid if figures a year to try to block him and they can do it. of course, a backup tight end won't be able to do it. looks like he gets to purdy. kyle shanahan alluded that party should have felt that and moved up in the pocket. but that's what's going to happen. this eagles defensive line led the nfl in sacks. you can't do that. now here later in the game. the niners just could not stop to the eagles defensive line out. this was a brutal looking johnson and on the kuz sue, you can see his head bounced off the turf. we hope johnson is okay. he looked to be okay. obviously he was okay enough to come back into the football game. >> but really this game just came down to eagles defensive line in the niners offensive
10:38 pm
line, not being able to stop them. they knock out to quarterback. they got to the quarterback constantly on this day. and it really just. that was kind of a matchup going in who was going to get the upper hand the forty-niners offensive line or this eagles all-world defensive line. now, i understand injuries happened there and of part of the game. but this wasn't a fluke injury like brock purdy, someone stepped on his ankle or something this was simply the niners not being able to protect their quarterback. these are they just weren't good enough on the offensive line. kyle shanahan should put his backup tight end in that position. and that's what happens. it was a great year for the forty-niners. let's get to another huge story line for this game to 49 or penalties. the niners had 11 penalties for 81 yards and many of those penalties came at the worst possible time like that. jimmie ward, one kept a drive going here. you
10:39 pm
see hands to the face you see right there, you can do that. that is a penalty. they had 3, 1, possession to extend a drive lined up here. this is another kind of mooney ward. i actually think this was probably the one that the ref swallow their whistle. you know, right here, greenlaw nasa penalty. this isn't bad refereeing. you can't do that. that's a 15 yard penalty that move the ball up half the distance to the goal line. and i'm sure we're going to see that roughing the punter. here we go right here. some will say he was blocked into him. i don't think so. you know, you've got to be a more control when you're pursuing that block. that's just what happens. and then here. to fund can do they were hurt was clearly out of left hooks that put them up in the goal line and they're right here. the whistle had blown. this was just frustration. great. we can do that. you know, you can't do how how's this was.
10:40 pm
this was the last one. where is really just frustration. i mean, that was classless. there's no other way to say, trent, you can't do that. i know you're frustrated. crazy might just, you know, proceed. you're better than that. you're one of the best tackle to ever play this game. i know you're mad going to seriously hurt. that guy's just was no need for it. tiffany, after that, the eagles took their starters out because they could see things were starting to get away from everyone. but let's hear from a couple of guys about all those penalties after the game. any risk of he's really got our defense. i think a number of them were self-inflicted that we got to do better on. >> and a few of them. you know, see how it is when i saw the tape. that's what got them going and going as one of the best offenses in the league and can't make those mistakes. and then they're out there pretty much alone. 2nd, half only that the team that our offense was just able to run
10:41 pm
the ball and were unable to get some big so they had a pretty uphill battle versa. good we're proud of those guys smoke when you win for so long, forget how losing feels right. and today, a lot of things indoor way we >> so conflict, something that was on defense all the way however you want, you know, draw it up or or talk about it. it's wasn't our day. >> sure wasn't. now it's time to see who the eagles would be facing. and we had a heavyweight matchup. patrick mahomes joe burrow to the best quarterbacks in football at arrowhead stadium. well, that's what the mayor of cincinnati called it. i don't think the bengals players. we'll appreciate that tomorrow. that extra bulletin board material that mister mayor gave the cheese wasn't a smart idea. patrick mahomes looking for some redemption against joe burrow. the bengals had beat the chiefs 3 straight times. 3rd quarter
10:42 pm
