>> 3 nfc championship games in 4 years. dan and noelle, but a very bitter pill to swallow, because even though that's a remarkable feat, none of those games have resulted in a super bowl ring for the forty-niners. this one was different than some of those other losses, though, because instead of a hard fought game between 2 even teams, this one had some other mitigating factors. not one but 2 quarterbacks getting injured in the game. a slew of defeating penalties made by the defense and just all sorts of things that you couldn't really plan for in any game that were thrown. the forty-niners way. so now they'll have to head back to levi stadium and start working on the next season. but it's kyle shanahan said this one stings and was extra frustrating. i thought our defense is playing real well. >> and i movie fell. josh is going to go in there and execute our plan and give us a chance. we felt confident coming on the 3rd quarter. but

next well, definitely not. the outcome of the fans wanted to see here locally, especially those that watch party in san jose. she confidential. it was packed with niners fans hoping the team would make it to the super bowl. kron 4 sarah stinson has reaction after the loss. >> san pedro square here in san jose was full of pumped up niners fans. but unfortunately, we didn't win and it ended with a lot of fans walking out of here with a long face. >> that that's who she confidential were pumped up at the beginning of the game with all the hope and the world that we would pull it through and make it to the super bowl. a lot of energy here. we're excited. we got we got to stay positive. i mean, we were down early in the 1st quarter. now the game is tight. >> we still got life. i'm very confident that we're going to. >> you know, take it all the way from brock purdy got taken out of the game. that's when people started to have some doubt. if you would wait and

conditions out there right now. and that drying trend going to continue throughout tonight. in fact, we do have frost advisories and freeze warnings going into effect during the overnight hours, starting at midnight. >> through around 9 o'clock monday morning. so temperatures out there right now. we're going to see widespread 40's out there and that's going to turn into 20's and 30's, which is just an indicator of how chilly it's going to get tonight. let's see gusty winds in the forecast as well, especially for those of you in the north bay going to make temperatures feel even cooler. thanks to that wind chill right now out of the north for downtown san francisco, sustained at around 20 miles per hour. but we could see gusts in our north bay valleys and highest peaks 50 miles per hour or less through monday afternoon. and taking a look ahead at the next 3 day forecast. cold snap going to continue with freeze. watch is going to go into effect in the coming days. more on that in just a few minutes. back to you, dan and well, but recent. thank you.

developing news tonight, the man who drove his family off san mateo cliff crashing more than 200 feet below. >> is behind bars tonight. 41 year-old patel was released from the hospital and booked on suspicion of attempted murder and child abuse. investigators believe on january. second patel, who was a doctor in southern california resident intentionally drove his tesla off the cliff with his wife and 2 young kids inside. miraculously, all of them survived this crash. but they had some serious injuries. patel is being held at the san mateo county jail without bail. arraignment could come sometime tomorrow. if the da moves forward with criminal charges. >> we're learning the gunman's motive in monday's mass shooting in half moon bay that left 7 people dead. a california prosecutor telling the bay area news group that a dispute over $100 work-related repair bill spurred the violence. 66 year-old to lead zhao told investigators he went to the vent to a

without a home tonight after a house fire in rohnert park. it broke out last night and bernice avenue. >> firefighters responded to the blaze in the home's garage. the fire quickly spreading to the home. officials say the garage had been converted into living quarters in total damage was estimated to be about a half million dollars. all 9 residents were displaced and the cause is still under investigation. >> an abandoned warehouse caught fire in santa rosa. a total of 5 fire engines responded to the scene late last night on central avenue. they were able to quickly control the flames and did a search for anyone who may be

>> protests continuing nationwide this weekend following friday's release of a video showing the gruesome beating of tyree nichols, the memphis police chief is deactivated unit involved in the violent traffic stopped. it was called the scorpion unit and about 30 officers were part of it. the scorpion unit focused on violent offenders in high crime areas. ga hardaway represents memphis in the tennessee legislature is demanding more transparency. >> who decided that we needed a scorpion unit with that kind leeway with just a wow. wow. west app and 2. >> the 5 police officers have been fired and are facing second-degree murder charges in a newly released video, the nichols family spoke to president biden on the phone on friday. he's heard inviting them to the white house. >> the san francisco chapter of the naacp and community leaders came together today to discuss the brutal police beating and death of tyree

nichols. the discussion lasted about 90 minutes. it included religious leaders, community members and police chief bill scott. many spoke about what measures they feel need to be considered to prevent police brutality right here in the bay area. chief scott says san francisco police are committed to doing better than what unfolded in memphis. >> but what we try to do one is you have to have the accountability. we have a police commission that county we have chief police of those and it's got to be fair with the process. you know, the thing we have invested a whole lot of time and so we can get better at those types of situations. >> chief says they have a dedicated task force called field training and force options which examines the police department's procedures so they can learn from the past and come out better in the future. we're going hear more about this on kron. 4 news at 8. >> colin kaepernick is releasing a new documentary taking aim at police violence and corruption. >> this is one of the most

the forecast goes now that the storm as bad as it is leaving behind a cool air mass out there. very chilly overnight lows expected tonight. we're tracking frost advisories along the coast and east bay shoreline with the freeze warnings going into effect for coolest inland valleys tonight after midnight and even through mid morning on monday. so it is going to get downright chilly below. subfreezing temperatures. check out livermore cooling down to 29 degrees for your overnight. temperatures. santa rosa. not that far behind in the low 30's in downtown san francisco, even though you're not included in that frost advisory, temperatures still going to cool down to 37 degrees. so yeah, we're out of the 40's and going to dip into the 30's for overnight temperatures this evening. but temperatures today for your daytime highs. widespread cooling with that storm, especially conquer. you've got slightly less than a 10th of an inch of rain. 12 degrees below average. you should be flirting with 60's today. only warming up to 47 degrees. so

drier outlook, but it is going to be very chilly, especially now that this storm has passed and exited the bay area. temperatures out there right now, widespread mid to upper 40's. 44 degrees for pacifica, dublin and livermore. but those of you in nevado petaluma and sonoma. 48 degrees and high temperatures tomorrow in the low to mid 50's about 5 degrees below average and then we're going to notice a drying trend thursday night through friday could see some light scattered showers overnight. but it looks like our best shot of rain will be a week from today next sunday. so the good news is we're going to warm up so warming up into the low 60's by saturday. but overall, partly cloudy skies and that rain that's coming on sunday is kind of similar potentially to what we saw today today was kind of felt like more misty. yeah, i i think that one we still have to keep an eye on that. the storm tracks of the just keep fizzling out. we're just keeps heading north. so still too early to tell or 7 days out. so we'll see a closer look in the days ahead. thanks thanks, guys. all right. well, the

>> city of sausalito has a new mayor. blasting says it housing is a major priority for the state has recently mandated the city create more than 700 new dwellings over the next 8 years. >> we need to move saw sleet is a 2 by 2 square miles city. and we've been asked at 724 new units of housing. so we're working really hard because, you know, no one is going to be 100% happy with the choices that we make. but i believe that we can come up with a plan that will help us make a more inclusive community that allows us to welcome more folks into our town and also solves our housing challenges. >> a special city council review meeting is set for tomorrow to discuss the housing element. it is open to the public. >> coming up next in sports, forty-niners fall short in their quest to reach super bowl. 57 sports director jason dumas has the highlights. well, low lifes, i guess. plus, a live report from kate rooney out in philly. coming up.

>> and now kron 4 sports. >> over the last 8 weeks or so. the san francisco forty-niners became a juggernaut simply dominant on both sides of the ball. playmakers everywhere. and your 3rd string quarterback ended up being the best quarterback on the roster. it really felt like everything was falling into place for this niners team. but then they ran into this philadelphia defensive line, a unit that changed everything with one hit on brock purdy.

let's head to south philly to see how it all played out. and there he is right now. take a look at brock looking for his 8th straight win and becoming the first quarterback working quarterback to lead his team to a super bowl. here was a huge play right here. it's 4th down. and they hit devontae smith. jalen hurts. does looks like you bring it in not so fast. a replay shows it was not a catch, but the eagles, they run down the field quick snap the ball before san francisco could challenge it in on the next play miles. sanders takes it in for the touchdown. all righty. then here is the play. i don't know why. kyle shanahan decided to block us. i'm ready with a backup. tight end redick hits brock purdy. is that hit that injured his elbow. he would leave the game just a costly, costly play for the 9 or so. now in comes jost johnson, the backup and the niners they

lean on the run. and chris mccaffrey played so well. this game. what elwren? he ties up the game. more bad news for san francisco. 3rd quarter in donnica. sue. he gets concussion on the play. he would not return that. philippe after us with brutal final seconds of the 3rd game was pretty much over at this point. jalen hurts sneaks in is 28 after johnson's injury heard he would return but he couldn't throw the ball. the niners would only attempt 3 passes the rest of the game. the eagles celebrate they win. 31 to 7. they are heading to super bowl. 57 sobering end to a of a season for the niners. the niners finished the year 15 5 and they appear to have their quarterback of the future. but let's head back out to south philadelphia joining us now is kron 4 sports reporter kate rooney.

now. kate, you have done a fantastic job of covering this team all season long through 2 quarterback injuries acquisition. a christian mccaffrey, i'd like to say nothing could surprise you at this point. but then today happens. >> this is an assault on never forget, jason, the forty-niners the forty-niners came so close to a fairytale ending. mister relevant ended up rewriting the rookie history books. but brock purdy storybook season ended today here at lincoln financial field. pretty completed, just 4 of 4 passes. but that was all he was able to do because he got that shoulder injury, scare me that elbow injury, which he called extremely painful. josh johnson came in the game. johnson struggled before he even went out with that concussion. and after that, it was just a really tough, tough situation for the forty-niners. not the way they wanted things to go. now, as for purdy, he will have an mri
