way, we do see a pop of offshore winds coming later, a current contrast to 24 hours ago. well, napa's trailing quite a bit. and even along the east bay shoreline, we were from yesterday, but they're so cold in much of the east bay. we're kind of repeating that today. calm wind conditions for the most part, single digits here and there that will build later this afternoon and into tonight, 50 was call it the 10 o'clock. and then one 58 partially because of some of those winds building the inner up some of the daytime heating. but we're getting that resurgence of some dry air. that's going to be somewhat brief. maybe a statement for solano county will let you know, checking in the bay area traffic right with one all right. well, we do have a hot spot. this is in san leandro west bound 5.80, east of esta deal avenue. >> and so things are pretty backed up there. you can see 2 lanes are blocked. you can still get through. but you might just want to take 8.80 get around those and the delays are seeing there. if you're traveling into the city right now about 16 minutes may's to that fremont street exit. our san mateo bridge puts us at about 13 heading across towards the peninsula.

a richmond center fell bridge tolls to 1, one about 7 minutes and the golden gate bridge. 37 to the tolls. it's going take in 19 minutes. darya. james, back to you. thank you. reyna 601. and today charges will be filed against the man accused of killing 7 people in half moon bay. he's expected to make his first court appearance today with problems. michael thomas standing by live in redwood city. >> where he is expected to appear before a judge. michael. >> yeah, good morning, everyone. you know, this felony arraignment is set for later this afternoon with intent to pay to charges that include 7 counts of murder. the sheriff's office says looking at evidence everything points to workplace violence. as of right now. but let's get these details up on your screen. take a look. here's a photo of the suspect is in custody. 66 year-old john lee zao is accused of shooting and killing 7 people. his court appearance is set for one 30 this afternoon at the hall of justice in redwood city. the charge is expected to be filed will be 7 counts of murder.

one count of attempted murder and a special circumstance allegation of multiple murder. according to officials, a semiautomatic handgun found in south car on monday with a legally purchased. now when it comes to a motive, san mateo sheriff's office says it's still under investigation. but again, all evidence is pointing to workplace violence, as alice said, to have worked at one of the 2 agricultural farms where the shootings took place when it comes to those victims from monday. officials say as of right now, all they can say is that it's a mix of asian and hispanic. both men and women. the san mateo district attorney says that as of right now, that area has never seen that many deaths at one scene. again, the hearing is set for later this afternoon. of course, we'll have a team here to bring you the latest coverage both online and on air. but for now, let's send it back to you to live in the studio. >> michael, thank you very much. and we're also getting a glimpse of some of the workplace conflicts surrounding the suspected shooter. court documents from santa clara county show that he had a restraining order against him filed by a former

co-worker kron four's. justin campbell reports from san jose. suspected gunman zhao lived a san jose neighborhood near 2.80, in saratoga avenue back in 2013 and judge issued a restraining order against him after he attacked his roommate. >> according to a temporary restraining order filed in santa clara county superior court in 2013, zhao and his roommate worked at a restaurant in san jose until zhao quit. but soon after, according to the court documents, zhao threatened to split his roommate's head open with a knife. if he didn't help and get his job at the man also accused zhao of entering his room early in the morning and demanding him to give him his check from the restaurant. he recently quit when the man said he didn't have it. zhao allegedly said, quote, today i am going to kill you and tried to suffocate the roommate with a pillow. a santa clara county judge eventually allow the temporary restraining order to

grieve and it's just not the people here that are grieving. it's also governor gavin newsom he was in town yesterday ripped away from monterey park. he was down there consoling the families and the victims of what happened over the weekend where 10 people were killed. then he was at the hospital when he was told there was a mass shooting in half moon bay. he arrived. he gave passionate speeches. he was talking about gun control, talking about workplace safety, farming conditions. he is very outraged by what's going on. and of course, very heartbroken. he's not the only one that is heartbroken for the 13,000 people who live in half moon bay, even if they never met the victims. this, of course, is very personal to them. >> i was surprise. you know, when i watch the news clips, so or somebody was familiar with, somebody contact with an old are brought in like resources. we were young there before christmas. we brought

scammers always pop up during tragedies to prey on people who just want to help. so botta says before you send money, you want to research the organizer, contact them, feel free to ask questions says there's nothing wrong with being skeptical when someone is asking for your money. time now 607. in the east bay, oakland police are calling another deadly mass shooting that happened at a gas station. >> a targeted attack. there were 40 to 50 people recording a music video monday night when several shooters opened fire from various directions. police think that this was gang related and now members of the community are calling for peace and no retaliation. this happened at this gas station parking lot near mills college. 5 people were struck by gunfire and one of them, 18 year-old mario navarro died from his injuries. >> at this time we are aware of 6 additional victims ranging in ages from 15 to 63. one vehicle was struck by stray bullets as they left the

scene. another victim had a stray bullet entered their place of business. a driver and passengers were injured as they were involved in a solo vehicle accident while they're fleeing the scene. >> and one person is still in the hospital right now. oakland police say that the scene was littered with shell casings and they hey, say they have a good sense of who was involved. it's 609, and a community advisory has been issued because a man grabbed a woman. and told her that he was going to try to take her car. this all happened yesterday around 5 in the evening near hearst and euclid avenues and the berkeley area that you see here on the map. now, luckily she was able to run away, went into a nearby cafe. she is find the man who tried to take the car still on the loose. >> still ahead on the kron, 4 morning news, we're going to hear from a woman who survived the gilroy garlic festival shooting back in 2019 and how she's trying to make sense of the recent mass shootings here in the bay area. plus, classified documents now found

statements, but that's the place most likely we might see something pop out of the sacramento office. it does spread out a little bit into napa county little in the east bay. and that takes little dive right across the golden gate out to sea. with all of that. again offshore, just reinforcing the dry air that's already here. yes, you heard right? a little rain in the forecast later on to mostly sunny cool today. we'll see some mid 60's going on today. then to finish off the weekend kind of what's been like lower 60's inland, basically mostly sunny. and then saturday, some scattered clouds, cooking temperature change and sunday, some scattered showers. more typical of winter type systems as this will come from the northern latitudes. and it won't be as potent or as juicy as all the rain that we had from before. want run through quickly. the moisture levels with all of this, we have the dry air drops off today like yesterday tomorrow morning. kind of interesting. as you can see, we see the carquinez strait tries to come in a little bit here from all that moisture instill the sacramento valley to throw it into our area little bit. but

fleeing legitimate violence with their children should be allowed. 2 least have an opportunity to apply for asylum here in the u.s. 6.16 right now. and we mention that the governor was in half moon bay yesterday meeting with the victims, families and local and community members his visit comes in the wake of the mass shootings in monterey park. as we've been reporting where he spent. >> the 2 previous days consoling the grieving community there. in that case, 11 people were killed and kron four's. theresa stasi has more on what the governor has to say. >> i am here in downtown half moon bay in front of this memorial. that is a growing larger as the community turns out all to pay their respects for those people who lost their lives. you can see behind me the flowers that have been left as well as the candles, this crime happening on monday in this very small community and tight community. so the pain runs deep as residents try and cope with this tragedy. governor newsome talked about the community as he came on tuesday to lend moral support to those

hurting. he also spoke passionately about the need to take stronger action against gun violence. he lashed out about the lack of a federal assault weapon ban, adding, quote, gun safety saves lives. here's the governor. >> we have your back. you matter. we care. we're here. and when you leave. off to the next. will have their back. society becomes how we behave. we've allowed this to happen. doesn't have to be this way. it wasn't always this way. few decades ago we didn't experience these kind of things. we've allowed this to happen. >> as you heard, he was quite upset. the shooting monday came on the heels of that shooting in monterey. the governor also mentioned the vta shooting that took place a few years ago in san jose. that was a workplace violence

crime. again, he drilled down on politicians saying that it is an acceptable that more safety measures are not being taken when it comes to access to guns. the governor also pledging that he will continue to support this community in the days and the months to come. here in half. moon bay, theresa kron, 4 news. >> and there is now a fund set up to support families impacted by the shooting there in half moon bay, alas, is a nonprofit that's been helping coastal farm workers during the pandemic. they also help them with the recent flooding. and now they have this mass shooting volunteers filled an suv with blankets, bottled water and clothing as well for the community. the relief fund was set up after hearing that. that's perhaps what's needed most right now. >> we're hearing the most concern is, you know, they're not working. they've already not been working because of the flood and no, the economic relief are going to have to help some of the families with funeral support with the

media. it clothing basic of needs and just on, i'm going to see what's going to be out there for them. >> well, volunteers have been shuttling donations to the families of the victims. and we have a link on our website for the fund set up by last and by coast side. hope. >> time now, 6.20, and the u.s. secret service just released a new report that details how mass attacks across the country could have been prevented. looked at nearly 200 of these crimes in public spaces, including workplaces and schools and events from 2016 to 2020. and our washington correspondent jessi turnure joins us live from dc with more on what it found. good morning. jessi. >> yeah, good morning to you as well. james and so top secret top secret service officials did say that they now know why these attacks happen even can spot warning signs, but often the right information isn't shared fast enough to prevent them.

>> these crimes, plater communities, secret service director kimberly cheadle wants her agency's new report on mass attacks to spur public action. the impact is devastating. doctor leana all authority runs the agency's national threat assessment center that conducted the report. it examined 173 attacks in public spaces from 2016 to 2020 that killed nearly 500 people. there is no community that's immune from this hour. authorities said these attacks happened across the country from small towns to major metropolitan cities. they impacted businesses the most like restaurants, shopping centers and hospitals, but also includes schools, events in churches by far grievances with a top motive for these attacks. the report found the suspects were mostly lone male attackers with guns who had some sort of relationship with the public space. many had a history of criminal activity, physical violence and mental health symptoms and also made threatening communications from in-person to online posts to tax many of these attackers had are on the radar. that's

as everyone is celebrating, unfortunately, the organization is dealing with the fallout of a player who was arrested for domestic violence, defensive lineman charles, a man who was arrested on monday afternoon for tv. he allegedly pushed his girlfriend to the ground in san jose's santana row, a man who pretty good player. he has 4 and a half sacks this season and he usually gets about 15 snaps per game. the niners have released a statement saying they're aware of the incident and they're gathering more information. a spokesperson for the san jose police department explain why this offense. it was ruled a misdemeanor rather than a felony. >> but classify this is a misdemeanor. not a felony is there was not a visible injury. there the mere complained of pain that classifies that changes the classification from a felony to a misdemeanor. >> well, we'll take a break here at 6.26. coming up next on the kron, 4 morning news community members in oakland

2019 when a shooter opened fire, killing 3 people. >> and injuring 17 others. >> all i can think about is my own experience and the direct knowledge of the pain these individuals are about to go through. she says when it first happened, she can imagine another mass shooting ever happening. i really thought that would be the last one. that would be the breakup. a breaking point that the world needs that week. in 2019, there's a shooting in dayton, ohio, and el paso. so it feels really reminiscent of that. and it continues 3 and a half years later. >> mass shooting after mass shooting. she says these incidents make her ptsd works. one of the big techniques, ford. >> dealing with your ptsd is telling yourself that the odds of it happening again are low. it's a way to reintegrate yourself a society to convince yourself that you're and when you see more shootings happening, it's hard to convince yourself that you are safe, but she does have advice

today and meeting with survivors. everyday californians have the ability to stop gun violence because there is a state law called the red flag law that you might not even know about. >> it allows temporarily guns to be taken away from people who are deemed to be a threat to their own safety or that of others. this law was passed back in 2014 and it allows certain family members, co-workers, school officials to report violence. social media posts or verbal threats to law enforcement in the effort to have that person's guns taken away from them. it gives regular people a way to intervene before it's too late. >> this is one way to really cut off that concerning persons, access to lethal weapons, at least during the duration of the crisis. will things get sorted out? we figure out, you is there about divorce going on was a suicidal crises that they just get, you know, fired from their job and they want to retaliate and can we get them out of this period? and then restore their rights.

>> a study by uc davis, a school, a violence prevention found that of 21 people who were either stop from purchasing guns or forced to give up their current guns because of the red flag law. none of those people went on to shoot themselves or others. >> happening today, there will be a food and emergency supplies drive held in san jose in support of the victims of half moon bay in the shooting and also the flood victims to from the storms that that community experienced since the beginning of the year. it's going to be held at the san jose women's club on 75 south 11th street from 9 in the morning till 2 in the afternoon. they're accepting non-perishable foods like bottled water, protein bars, lunchables dried food, fruits and nuts. things of that nature. they're also accepting new or like new warm clothing for men, women and children. monetary donations are also greatly appreciated. the farmworker caravan. also as a gofundme page set up and all of the funds were told will go directly to the san jose parks foundation for emergency

well inland, you can see in the east bay for now mid 30's, lower 30's like for santa rosa considering the fact that will be climbing more than 30 degrees this afternoon. now something that's happening is these offshore winds are kind of interrupting some of the east bay heating a little bit. as you can see, even though sometimes it does warm things up artificially if you're in the right location with that compressional heating. then later on, it comes right through the carquinez strait in the bay and out to sea from the golden gate. it doesn't last real long. so the impact will be modest. and we already have dry air here anyway, over the long range period. quiet to finish off the week saturday, throwing in some scattered clouds. yes, it's still holding together for rain on sunday. but this is the traditional storm that comes out of the gulf of alaska. there go will be lower snow levels that experienced before and it's not as potent moisture wise as we had early in the month and then upstream, it looks like late next week. something to look out for coming in from the pacific. but check out your 4 zone forecast today. 62 san francisco still keeping a close to 60 along the coast. not bad for winter. 61 for
