after the shooting unfolded. and we have a map here that illustrates the 3 locations that pertain to this story. yeah, this shows you the 2 locations where there were shots fired and people killed and then the 3rd location is where he was arrested. kron four's will tran is live in half moon bay to begin our coverage. well. >> okay. so james duryea on that crime scene. number one, we're 17 hours into this. and as you can clearly see, the authorities are still here, despite them saying there is no threat to the community that this man acted alone. but they are preserving this scene to allow investigators to continue to come here to look for any other possible evidence as they build the case against this man. let me show you his picture once again, 67 years old, half moon bay resident chan leaves out who they say came on to 2 locations without any notification and started firing. they say that he shot and killed his co-workers.

let's talk about seen number one. all went down at around 2.22, this is off of highway. 35 about 2 miles or so from downtown half moon bay. there were people at this location. he comes onto the scene, according to authorities and open and fires on 5 people. 4 people died. one person, as you mentioned, still in the hospital fighting for his or her life. but it does not stop here, according to authorities, he gets back into his suv drives about a mile and a half 2 crime scene. number 2, when he gets there, he opens fire on 3 other people. those 3 died making it a total of 7 people all together in rampage of 2 locations in a quiet community that let's face it. the only reason why you would go half moon bay for predominantly is if you live or work here. otherwise it's an off the beaten path just down the road, obviously from san

francisco world famous for the pumpkin festival. but now this morning, even the president knows about half moon bay and the latest massacre in the country. we've got a chance to talk to shocked residents. here's what they had to say about their quiet community being now. world he was >> i mean, i would have never thought something like this would happen in a small, close community. we're all very close. we all know each other. we know our neighbors. we know that people who work within our community, it was. yeah, it was heartbreaking. >> okay. so james duryea, let me give you the lay of the land with my camerawoman. yulia 7. as you can see, the authorities right behind me. they have crime scene tape. it appears that this nursery is just right down the road. and as you can clearly see, nobody is allowed to go through. not exactly what that car on the other side of the scene tape is. but i would imagine that's

investigators. they also say that the 67 year-old man came to the scene, opened fire on some people inside their trailers next to the feel. not exactly sure if those are the trailers, but you can see those gates are locked. they also saidtthat he shot people in the fields and because these are farm workers, guys, a lot of them have their families here and they believe that a lot of kids were at the locations and witnessed the massacres of their family back to you. all >> tragic current 75, thank you. will continue our team coverage what happened? what we know about the suspected gunman and his arrest, which occurred about 2 hours after the shooting started. let's go to kron four's michael thomas for that part of the story. michael, what can you tell us about him? >> hi, everyone. well, we did get new information from the da's office saying that charges will not be filed today, but they'll be filed

tomorrow. he's also expected to appear in court over at the hall of justice in redwood city for a felony arraignment not set to take place at one 30, but let's get you another photo of him again. this is the suspects estate. 67 year-old excuse me, john out now he is a half moon bay resident and officials believe he was employed at one of the 2 agricultural farms where the shootings took place. he was arrested yesterday at around 4 in the afternoon. and let's get into some video of that arrest. police were searching for a maroon suv at the time which was spotted at the sheriff's substation. and the suspect was simply sitting inside. officials went ahead and made that arrest without any incident. but still a dramatic arrest with some press that was around and soon after police retrieved a semiautomatic handgun from the suv, which is believed to be the one used in the shootings just down the road. the sheriff's office says they believe zao does have a spouse in the area, but that is still being confirmed. we did speak with one woman who was just feet away from the arrest.

quote, jill and i are praying for those killed and injured in the latest tragic shooting in half moon california. for the second time in recent days, california communities are mourning the loss of loved ones in a senseless act of gun violence. i have directed my administration to ensure local authorities and the broader half moon bay community have the full support of the federal government. >> well, governor gavin newsom also responded tweeting out yesterday evening reacting to the shooting saying he was actually at a hospital down in l a meeting with victims of the mass shooting in monterey park when he was pulled aside and briefed about what was going on and half moon bay he's referring to. the shootings now is tragedies upon tragedies. the governor says he'll be visiting half moon bay today and we'll have more details on that visit once the governor's office announces those plans. >> we spoke with half moon bay mayor debra penrose about the tragedy and what the city is doing now. and here's some of what she had to say.

>> i think the city is on top as much as you can be in a situation like this. we don't have all of the information yet. we are pleased that the shooter has been apprehended and apprehended without difficulty by our sheriff's office. thank god for that what we need to be looking at is why did this happen? and that's not easy easy question to answer. but i can tell you this. we don't have the money for mental health care. in our community or anywhere in the united states of america. and we have too many guns. >> the mayor says she's now working to support the farm workers who are affected and their children and particularly those children who witnessed the shooting. >> simply too many guns in this country. and there has to be a change. this is not an

3, talk. that's 1, 802, 7, 3, 8, 2, 5, >> 5 and there was another mass shooting that happened yesterday in oakland overnight. oakland police are investigating the killed one person and 7 others were injured when shots were fired around 6 o'clock last night at this valero gas station. it's on macarthur boulevard seminary avenue right near mills college and the shotspotter system went off when the police got there, they roped off. you can see this from the citizen app and started investigating. they found shell casings but no victims. and then after a little bit of time, multiple victims started arriving at nearby hospitals. one person died and the others are in stable condition. >> and we're looking for continued sunshine for today. dry conditions as we look at highs approaching about 60 right now. and if you are commuting this morning, we're tracking your commute. remember if you're taking far, there is a closure at the lafayette station because of a medical emergency. so expect

be the second case against the company from the doj. google, of course, the number one player in the 280 billion dollar u.s. digital ad market controlling most of the technology used to buy, sell and serve online ads from the nasdaq market site. i'm jane king back to james. ok, thank you very much, jane. >> it's 7.19 right now in the golden gate bridge is getting a major upgrade. thanks to some federal money to help restore the bridge. >> and as a new project that they're going to be working on to make it safer. crawford's charles clifford takes a look. >> well, the golden gate bridge is 90 years old and it was decided after the loma prieta earthquake decades ago that the bridge is in need of some seismic safety upgrades. now we're learning that the federal government is going provide 400 million dollars to complete that work on monday. transportation secretary pete buttigieg, along with nancy pelosi, san francisco mayor london breed made the announcement the money, which is being provided through a grant as part of the infrastructure investment and jobs act signed into law back in 2021 will be used to

improve the seismic safety of the bridge. specifically. they're going to retrofit the towers and improve some of the foundations and beams on the bridge. the golden gate bridge was just one of 4 bridges nationwide to receive funding in this round. it was chosen not only because of its historical significance, but also because the bridge is a key piece of infrastructure in the bay area. and across california, secretary buttigieg said this is just part of a larger effort by the administration to try to upgrade the country's aging infrastructure. >> whether it's a road threatened by mudslides, support threatened by sea-level rise or a major american bridge threatened by earthquakes. we are acting to ensure that's more resilient in the face of all that will come our way in the century. >> now that the funding has been secured, the golden gate bridge district will have to beat out the work. and then if all goes well as take about 6 years to complete those safety upgrades. but for now at the golden gate bridge, charles clifford kron, 4 news. >> thank you, charles. 7.20, on the clock in some states supported covid-19 testing sites are now closed as demand for them begins to wane in

santa cruz county, the california department of public health shuttered the testing site there at the watsonville veterans building on thursday and plans to do the same to the santa cruz county courthouse location and the felton public library location in the coming weeks. the state is also working on closing a handful of clinics in monterey county. the health department says that you can get a pcr covid test from your care provider at pharmacies and some clinics run by local health departments and people can still order. of course, those at-home covid tests through the usps website. if they haven't done so already. >> the fbi has uncovered more classified documents as president and that biden is continuing to talk about how these documents were found in his home and former office a 13 hour search last friday found 6 more classified files in his home in wilmington, delaware. the white house says that they voluntarily allowed a thorough fbi search agents collected documents from biden's time in the senate. and as vice president,

7.24 and happening now, redwood city police are looking for this 12 year-old girl. her name is mila. perez pause and she was last seen 10, 30 sunday night in the stone. but heller neighborhood that's southeast of downtown redwood city. she was last wearing a dark hoodie. >> red and black pants. a police are asking you for any information if you spot her to give them a call, they're concerned about. >> more developing news now. the mass shooting in half moon bay comes on the heels of that other mass shooting over the weekend in southern california. and investigators in monterey park are searching for a motive now into saturday night shooting that killed 11 people and wounded 9. it's being called the worst mass shooting in los angeles county history. investigators revealed that the gunman may have been manufacturing gun. silencers in his home. he was

locations to are the crime scenes. >> and we want to go now to the first crime scene. kron four's will tran has been following that live all morning with the very latest. we'll can you tell us. >> he was arrested 2 hours after the rampage, but not before 7 people died. and one person still in the hospital this morning. i can tell you guys, investigators, more of them are showing up to the that the sun is up. this is crime scene. number one, you can see a police officer right behind me just to make sure nobody unless you're an investigator will be allowed to be on this squad car because they want to preserve it as they will come through this area. looking for more evidence. this is the man who is waking up this morning in jail in san mateo county. 67 years old, as you mentioned, chung lee zao. they say that he shot and killed his co-workers out of the blue. nothing as far as they know at this particular point tipped

anybody to what was to come. this all went down at around 2.22. in the afternoon, according to authorities. and this is crime scene. number one off a highway. 35 about 2 miles from downtown half moon bay. he comes to the scene. ends starts shooting people. 5 people altogether. 4 people died. one person rushed to the hospital in critical to life-threatening conditions this morning. and then he leaves the scene, according to investigators does not drive very far. only a mile and a half from this scene goes to see number 2 and shoots people there. 3 people were killed at that scene, making it a total of 7 people all together. we have been covering mass shooting for days now. this is the second mass shooting in 48 hours. and as the nation still is dealing with the first one in monterey park. now as another one right here in the bay area. and that has

lawmakers talking about safety about mental health and about gun control. >> in the days and weeks ahead of us, we really have to come together and figure out how to go ahead and wrap our arms around getting to address this problem. gun violence which is afflicted our state here region's recent days. and as a flick to this here at home, it's it's a it's something shat's unimaginable that happen here in half moon bay and frankly, here in san mateo county. >> it's unimaginable because they're only a few 1000 people that live in half moon bay guys. and this is world famous for their pumpkin festival that they have they have every year. but now everybody knows about it, including president biden. we do know that the victims were farm workers predominantly most of them were chinese. and authorities say many of them were shot in their trailers. not exactly sure, guys, if those of the trailers, but you can see it

is secure. nobody allowed into that parking lot as well. it appears that one door is open this morning. and according to authorities, when the victims, if they were not shot in their trailers, they were shot in the fields sometimes with children present to witness the massacre. >> back to you. all right. and we're going to have more on the effects on those kids to will. thank you very much. right now, though, we want to focus on the shooter and what we know about him. yeah, let's continue our coverage by going live now to kron four's michael thomas standing by at the location where that suspected gunman was arrested. michael? >> yeah, everyone a tough morning for a lot of people here. you know, when it comes to charges, the da's office is those will be filed until tomorrow. that's when the suspect is expected to appear in court for a felony arraignment for the first time at the hall of justice in redwood city. and that's set to take place at around one 30 in the afternoon. but let's get you another look. but the

suspect, again, this is 67 year-old chumley zao. he's a half moon bay resident and officials believe he was employed. one of the 2 agricultural farm to the shootings took place. now. he was arrested yesterday around 4 in the afternoon and we have some video to show you of that arrest was a press conference that was set to just right before that incident happened. police were searching for a maroon suv at the time, which was spotted in the sheriff's substation with the suspect sitting inside. officials made the arrest without any incident, but still a traumatic arrest. and soon after police received a semiautomatic handgun from the suv that the suspect was in, which is believed to be the one used in the shootings that happened just down the road. now, the sheriff's office says they do believe that sound does have a spouse in the area, but that is still being confirmed. spoke with one woman, the area who saw the arrest happened. here's what she had to say. >> it's shocking and i was glad that it happened without incident and was very impressed with the way
