6:15 am
monitor. there's still some severe for portions of the central valley. but look at notably where we're at right around los angeles up through the central coast that is out of drought. now down to abnormally can try. so this rainfall last week officially making a huge impact. and for the first time in a minute, we have a tiny sliver of northwest california. that's at del norte county. that is no longer and even abnormally dry conditions. so this is a lot of progress rate here savor. hopefully we get more rainfall ahead of us. can wipe out a little bit more the shades, but huge, huge progress for sure. now we're sitting after last night's rain that's moved out of the region back into the central valley central coast, seared getting some snowfall bay area. nice and quiet. and we stay that way for the rest of the month. sure. we do need more rainfall ahead of us, but i think we've earned a nice steady break. and that's exactly what we've got. nothing in the forecast in the way of any sort of rain, not just for the rest of this week, but into next week, too.
6:16 am

6:18 am
pay this time last year. yeah, prices just been climbing partially due to inflation, but it's also >> due to do with the bird flu that's been making chickens across the country. 6 that's been impacting the supply. zach boetto has more of a look. >> we've a sunday note. >> why? because they're too expensive him around this time. last year, the average price for a dozen large eggs in the united states was about $2. now, according to u.s. department of agriculture, that same doesn't is about $4.60 here in california. we're paying even more and consumers are feeling that extra cost their double the price for aig's right now. we can do without them. steven, get early with the association of farmers says right now the egg supplies low due to a bird flu sweeping through other parts of the united states. pair that with rising inflation and the holiday season, which is when eggs are most in demand. and you have what we're seeing right now, which is a spike in prices. midwest hens had significant

6:21 am
>> hey, guys. good morning. and it's likely we won't feel the economic impacts right away. but that's only because the treasury department is using what it calls extraordinary measures basically shifting money around in order to pay for immediate needs. but the department says those measures will likely only be able to keep the country afloat until about summer. the u.s. is expected to hit its borrowing limit today. the country soon won't be able to pay for obligations unless congress takes action dealing with the debt ceiling is their constitutional. >> responsibility. this is an easy one. this is something that should be happening without conditions. for now. the treasury department is able to move money around from one area to another. the treasury secretary janet yellen says if the debt ceiling isn't raised by june, the government won't be able to pay for critical obligations. that includes military salaries, social security benefits and more republicans who now control the u.s. house are blocking an increase in the debt limit.
6:22 am
house speaker kevin mccarthy says they want to make a deal but certain conditions must be met. the common sense compromise that puts his back on to a balance budget. republicans want massive spending cuts for the federal government and caps on future spending. who wants to put the nation in some type of threat at the last debt ceiling. nobody wants that. >> now congress isn't in session this week, but lawmakers are scheduled to be back here in washington next weekend. they say they hope to be able to hammer out. >> an agreement long before june when the treasury department says it will no longer be able to stave off the worst economic consequences. live in washington. alexandra limon. >> okay. thank you, alex. we'll see what happens. 6.22. is the time. and coming up, convicted murderer kevin chauvin is going to be returning to court trying to get a new trial while his legal team say he should not have been tried in minneapolis that derek chauvin.

support. and that's important. yeah. they've already declared disaster areas for a number of counties across the state the president. we don't know his exact itinerary, but it's been. >> stated that he does plan to visit with first responders, state, local officials as well and really just to give a get a firsthand look with his own eyes, the type of flood damage, the type of just storm and wind damage that whole state is dealing with right now. we've got a massive sinkhole. think what we're doing with the bay all day mudslides hitting the train on the tracks and passengers involved in that that we got. >> trees coming down in our homes. we've got to land giving way the number the boulders that fell on people's cars or i mean on and to you write that, you know, we did. we just did stories about hillsides sliding down a bit, putting homes in danger. and there you see they opened up the stairwell. >> from marine one and a minute, we'll see some of the presidential aides come out and eventually the president himself, he'll be greeted usually an air force colonel who pilots air force one and
6:40 am
they'll walk together towards the stairwell. but the stairway that will take them up to the plane itself. we've been following this live all morning with will tran is following kind of the schedule of what's going to happen without him off the field. yeah, which is where they'll be received. and again, the trip for the president much quicker, you know, hinkel cross country. >> quite quickly. so he'll be here and in the bay area, probably by this afternoon. yeah. now we should. and there's the president now coming the helicopter. we should mention that with all of the damage and destruction that the storms brought, they did bring as we know, a lot of rain, which was beneficial. >> in terms of our reservoirs which have been running extremely low for the past few years. and so we know the water levels have gone up. so that's one benefit. the huge flip side, a huge push aside. and dawn this morning showed us the new drought monitor map which shows that the vast majority of the state now is a much better off than it was just 3 weeks ago, 4 weeks ago and all this rain started. so clearly it's a double edge sword. yeah, that have come through that if there is some benefit, but obviously it did
6:41 am
bring a lot of destruction. all we need water. we got water. we just didn't want it all at once. but, you know, beggars can't be choosers like we had to have large. think about all the rationing and everything else. that was another emergency situation we've been dealing with for years. and here the president is now going up 2 on his plane and be here in a few we'll expect him once he gets to the top to turn, give away the cameras. and once he does that, then we'll we'll break away and go continue on with our news coverage. but there is and there's the salute and there's the way and now he's boarding air force one. so probably about what, 4 5 hours or so to travel across the country by the time. >> by this afternoon will expect him to arrive at so where the bay or someone, california, then eventually a bay area today will keep you updated. >> time now 6.41 other news that we're following this morning. nearly 2 dozen cars were broken into in san francisco's cow. how neighborhood this week. here's some video from filbert street on monday morning where residents woke up and discovered their windows have been smashed and stuff taken.
