>> from the bay local.news station. we now with breaking news. >> breaking news tonight. northbound and southbound lanes of the golden gate bridge are blocked due to an overturned big rig truck. that's a photo from chp earlier today. this new video just into our newsroom of that overturned truck. it was a hanging on over. both sides are both directions of the golden gate bridge. this is seen from someone driving up the northbound lanes. the good news california highway patrol has not reported any injuries so far. this happened around 06:30pm, tonight. it's not

clear what caused the truck to overturn. chp did. however, tweet asking oversized vehicles to avoid the bridge due to high winds. this is a live look at the golden gate bridge tonight. as you can see those northbound lanes are moving pretty slowly. of course, it's still very backed up. but they are seeing they do seem to be letting northbound traffic using at least just one lane. but as you can see, there is no southbound traffic coming down just in the last 30 minutes, crews were working to get the big rig right side up, which it seemed they were able to do as they're starting to let northbound traffic go on. been backed up since about 7 o'clock tonight. northbound lanes there on your right hand side. it was almost at a dead stop again. still no cars coming. southbound. we also have video of of a look from the those traveling southbound. but this again, is that video of the truck as they were trying to get it up

right just a bit ago. thanks for joining us here on kron. 4 news at 8. i'm noelle bellow. we'll continue tracking the traffic there at the golden gate bridge of this is time now to get you a check of your forecast. we've got calm for meteorologist maurice rodriguez standing by as this next round of storms have been drenching the bay area today. hazardous conditions up and down the coastline. national weather service has issued a flood watch for this entire region. reese rodriguez checking in on that for members to pay their noel. yeah. let's take a look at radar for because we're certainly tracking drier, calmer conditions and what we saw that 6 o'clock hour. we did see some pop-up thunderstorms making its way off the coast inland. where are the golden gate bridge was actually struck by lightning shortly before 5 o'clock this evening. but as you can drying out along the bay area coastline and even golden gate bridge for that matter. still tracking slick commute, though. >> light scattered hit or miss showers out there throughout the north bay. and even for

our east bay valleys. and even for most of the south bay as well. we are continuing to see that drying trend. could see some light scattered hit or miss showers throughout tonight. but it looks like the bulk of the severe weather out of the woods, at least for now. and even through sunday morning could see a stray shower or 2. but then by sunday afternoon, a lot of storm cloud cover. but overall, drier conditions. and then we're tracking another round of wet weather early sunday night into the overnight hours. that's when it's really going to peak. we're tracking pockets of moderate to heavy downpours throughout the bay area for your monday morning. could even see another round of thunderstorms as well. this is going to impact your monday morning commute. that's going to continue through monday night as well. we could pick up anywhere from about half an inch to an inch and a half of rain really benefiting areas around the bay area. shoreline and even along the coast as well for half moon bay. but we do have a flood warning in effect through tonight and flood watches that's going to remain in effect through

monday night just because of all of those storms. but we are expecting drier conditions on tuesday with even drier weather heading our way in the coming days more my full forecast in just a few minutes. noel, back to you. thank you. in the east bay tonight, flooding has shut down streets with water coming too close for comfort to some homes. kron four's amanda hari spoke with some people in pittsburgh. >> about how long it will be before they can move around their neighborhood again. harbor street behind me is closing on, told by police it will likely stay that way until monday. there the barricades you see. >> and then beyond that is a public works. vehicles stopping anyone who may try to get past those barricades on harbor street. there is flooding that's dangerous and makes it completely impassable. >> parts of harbor street from you, 70 drive to greystone place. look more like a lake that a road. it just started coming up of of coming on on track. and i've been watching

coming to my i caught up with bernadine cleaver. she was surveying the damage. she says this is the first time she experienced flooding like this. >> early this morning, there was no water and around 11:00am the flooding began. i'm concerned about the coming into the >> and not only coming into the house, my house in the street in turn into a vote she says city workers came by her home and put some sandbags near her garage. she's hoping that'll be enough to really hold because base is going to be hard to make public works. city engineer john samuelson says this is because of damage caused by the recent storms. we had a sinkhole that opened up on the good shepherd church facility right over our storm. drain like the storm drain line takes kercher creek from one side of harbor street to the other. it has now been compromised because of the sinkhole. the top of the pipe has failed. >> and soil for above has partially filled this storm.

drain line. so when the massive rain hit this area, it wasn't capable of transporting all the water in the creek from one side district. the other. so the water found another way, which was over the top of the street. lieutenant james terry showed us where the water is supposed to go. >> he says police and fire have been working all day and they believe the homes will be safe. we decided that because it's unlikely the water's going to rise to >> so we decided not order for it to rise to get to the houses. >> the >> fire department says they have their swift water rescue equipment ready just in case there does have to be an evacuation. but as of now, they don't expect that to happen. they say the water will go down as it stops raining and once it completely stops the work on repairing that storm, drain line in pittsburgh, amanda hari kron. 4 news. >> take a look at this. 3 people had to be rescued from their car as it teetered on

the edge of a cliff. chp, santa cruz say it happened yesterday afternoon in the area of old mill road in los gatos. an officer a last name. murphy was able to calm the passengers in that car down, gave them clear and concise instructions on how to safely exit the vehicle. all 3 folks who are inside are said to be okay, chp using this as a reminder, too only drive during the storms if necessary. and if you have to drive slow down, we do have a live look at p g any outages across the bay area as well. tonight we're seeing a large cluster of outages in and around big basin state park north of santa cruz there in boulder creek and scotts valley, where upwards of 500 to about 5,000 customers potentially out of power tonight, smaller outages also being reported across the wider bay area region down to santa cruz county. now where flood warnings are in effect, a particular concern. the san lorenzo river officials spent today carrying out emergency

>> welcome back. 8.15, on this saturday night in caltrans says bring your patients with you. if you're planning to drive to the sierra this weekend. this is a live look at highway 89 at west river. one lonely car traveling on, though, that snowy road officials have reported multiple spinouts on the roads throughout the day today. earlier we were watching folks braved the conditions to get up there on highway 80, but has gotten darker tonight. the roads definitely a bit quieter as the snow falls chain controls are in place from

drum for bay to meteorologist chris rodriguez here to talk a little about those conditions. they have seen so much snow care and they're expecting several feet of more snow. so let's get right to it because we're tracking 230% of average that this year's snowpack out there right now, believe it or not. so well above normal. and we're tracking more snow for the 2nd half of this weekend, even for your martin luther king junior day monday as well. so very slick on the roads and even at san francisco international airport as well. radar for tracking light scattered hit or miss showers. so not as active as what we were seeing earlier when we actually saw pop pop up thunderstorms. but we're still tracking some wet weather making for slick commute out there for your saturday night. pretty active out there just east or said we are seeing pop up thunderstorms there, widespread snow showers, especially throughout the southern part of this year over kirkwood and even south lake tahoe. so we do have a winter storm warning that is

going to remain in effect through tuesday morning. in addition to that, an avalanche warning for this year backcountry specifically the greater lake tahoe area feet of snow. in addition to that, gusty winds are valley's going to see gusts of 45 miles per hour, but double that amount for the highest peaks year. ridgecrest tracking howling winds at 100 miles per hour. most of the valleys could get up to 2 feet of snow from now through tuesday morning elevations above 7,000 feet, 2 to 4 feet of fresh powder with some localized spots, getting upwards of 5 feet of snow when it is all said and done. so this atmospheric real river really going to benefit this year. widespread snow showers overnight drying out by sunday morning with scattered snow showers by sunday afternoon. but then another round of active weather throughout most of the day on monday. so we're expecting widespread snow showers, prime snowmaking conditions with south lake tahoe in truckee time warming

up to the low 30's. and then 29 degrees by monday as those snow showers continue. but it is going to leave behind a very cool and dry air mass on tuesday, partly cloudy skies. but temperatures still in the upper 20's. so please drive safely behalf. and if you do plan on heading out in the sierra in the coming days, especially next week, take advantage of that. and that commute is drier and also safer as back to you. thank you. the recent storms not only impacting the bay area. take a look at this large boulder blocking the roadway on taylor road between old state highway and highway one, 93 right by the tunnel in placer county. no word on this road. >> will reopen. meanwhile, in sacramento county, an evacuation order has been issued for will the wilton area along highway 16 and grant line anyone in that area is being asked to leave. now an evacuation shelter has ben set up at the cibola center and go out. people living in rancho marietta and harold are currently under an evacuation warning. so the death toll

from these relentless storms battering the state over the last 2 weeks. now stands at 19. >> and authorities say, unfortunately that number will likely rise. the storms have claimed more lives than any single wildfire since 2018. state officials say these storms could rank among the deadliest natural disasters in state history. taking a look across the country now developing in alabama, the death toll there has risen to at least 9 after tornadoes tore through the south this week. now residents are working to pick up the pieces. david lamb from our sister station has a look at the damage done. and selma. >> scenes of devastation and destruction like this. homes roofs caved in some buildings completely collapsed. the devastation and destruction widespread. this historic city of selma. he's facing a historic rebuild. we were in

first on scene of a disturbance last weekend in lake elsinore, a second deputy later died from his injuries at the hospital. he was just 30 years old. he survived by his pregnant wife, colleagues remembering him as, quote the most cheerful positive. good wholesome man. you could imagine. and quote, governor newsom releasing a statement today honoring the deputies saying in part, quote, deputy calhoun died a hero and his bravery and selfless service will always be remembered. collins death happened just one month after the death of another riverside county deputy. they also died while in the line of duty. he was also in his early 30's. >> are you thinking of adding another bundle of joy to your family having a furry friend? up next, we're checking in on the oakland animal shelters, pets up for adoption. plus, hello, kitty, visiting the

>> welcome back. an update for you on a story. we story we first brought you earlier this week. the oakland animal shelters made some good progress on giving more dogs a home after their shelter was overcrowded. officials there say they've had 35 dogs adopted their goal of 50

breaking news we brought you at the top of the hour. just minutes ago, we saw crews tow and overturned big rig. >> off the golden gate bridge. it had tipped over in the

southbound lanes and then caused a traffic backup for the last few hours. traffic is still being impacted a bit. but chp says all lanes now back open, as you can see, cars traveling pretty smoothly there. you can see this is what it looked like just a bit ago. good news. no reported injuries so far happened about 2 hours ago. we still don't know why the truck toppled over, but chp is asking large trucks to stay off the bridge tonight because there are high winds. just again, those lanes on the golden gate bridge have reopened following that big red toppling over in the southbound lanes earlier tonight. to the east bay where niles canyon road is again, off limits to drivers kron four's philippe djegal all reports mud, rock and landslides are making the road pretty dangerous. >> saturated hillsides causing hazards on roadways. this landslide along foothill road in some old blocking one lane.

>> in town on main street turnbull and his wife, renee cleaning up where they can. we want to make sure that in the next when the next rains come that the water will flow off of main street than not. turnbull says his town may be small, but family struggle here during inclement weather. he hopes elected leaders provide resources for those incurring damage. we've got people with flooded basements. we're going to need help from pleasanton sunol road in some old canyon road in fremont. niles canyon road is shut down indefinitely. >> caltrans crews are busy clearing catch basins. so water flows freely into alameda 3. >> the agency says it will reassess the road conditions over the next few days. stay away from. >> because weather like this year, a predictable floods can come on top. you did before and you hit you've got tree branches logs, whatever. here's a good chance that whatever is rushing down, the creek could make it on the road. if you live in the area and have no other choice but to use the road to commute

plan ahead for your monday morning commute. i know it's a long holiday weekend, but many of you do have to head to work and we are tracking some pretty poor conditions as far as >> driving conditions for your monday morning drive. so just plan ahead. but right now we are seeing dryer conditions overall. still, some spotty scattered showers in the north bay and east bay valleys with some widespread light rain there. but overall, we're tracking a lot of that storm cloud cover out there right now in downtown san francisco in when tracker for calmer winds speeds and we will notice those winds really pick up again for your monday morning drive. so just plan ahead and pack your patience. because as we saw in golden gate bridge doesn't really take much when you have slick commute and poor visibility for a crash to actually happen. but temperatures out there right now. >> upper 40's to low 50's half moon bay, though, 54 degrees. upper 40's for fairfax and to bron petaluma as well up. 48 degrees and overnight lows tonight. thanks to that

blanket of storm cloud cover tracking widespread low to mid and upper 40's with daytime highs tomorrow in the mid 50's. so we're going to be about 3 to 5 degrees below average. but as we take a look ahead at the next 7 day forecast, we're tracking the bulk of the wet weather. not arriving until early sunday night through monday morning. that's when it's really going to peak intensity. we can pick up anywhere from about half an inch to upwards of about an inch, maybe even inch and a half of rain, especially along the coast. so just keep that in mind drying out on tuesday and then scattered showers on wednesday, not an atmospheric river. so it is going to be on the lighter side and then take a look at that stretch of dry weather haven't seen so many sun icons in the seven-day forecast in a while, but it looks like next weekend. looking great. if you want to clean up and plan some fun outdoor activities in the bay area. back to, you know, well, remember, he said thank you as we approach martin luther king junior day on monday, many are taking the time to reflect in atlanta where doctor king met

>> welcome back. a bit of relief for storm victims here in california this year. the irs announcing they are pushing back this year's tax deadline for anyone living in areas impacted by the recent rainfall, folks in communities designated by fema as the storm zone. we'll get an extra month to file their taxes. taxpayers can now file as late as may 15th instead of april 18th, the relief is offered % automatically so you won't need to contact the irs to get the extension. also for your money tonight, consumers looking for breaks and food prices saw some slight improvements in december. >> data from the bureau of labor statistics says purchases for grocery food increased only 2 tenths of a percent that month. that's the smallest monthly increase since march of 2021. overall,

more. hey, members know. well, yeah, or atmospheric rivers certainly bringing some very severe active weather in the bay area and that water spout no exception. today. we actually got reports of thunder and lightning in parts of the bay area. even downtown san francisco. so that's all because of the very unstable atmosphere with ard starting to exit the bay area out there right now. so as you can see, light scattered hit or miss showers. no threat of thunderstorms tonight or hill for that matter. but that is going to change by the 2nd half of this weekend's sunday night that some are going to see a more active weather pattern. still tracking a stray shower or 2 tonight through sunday morning. but overall, drier weather by sunday afternoon. a lot of storm cloud cover, but we are going to see our next atmospheric river or arriving from the south. so it's really going to benefit the southern portion and along the coast of the bay area. pay close attention to happen because as you can see, you're really going to get the bulk of this atmospheric river monday morning during the overnight

hours. we are going to see some possible pop-up thunderstorms and hail with gusty winds. if any severe weather does form. so just a heads up there. i know it's a long holiday weekend with a lot of us off from work and school on monday. but if you do need to commute plan ahead and also pack your patience because we are tracking rain totals anywhere from half an inch to upwards of an inch of rain. but for those of you at half moon bay, you could pick up anywhere from about half an inch of rain, at least or maybe upwards of close to 2 inches. believe it or not. thanks to are. but taking a look ahead, drying out on tuesday, short-lived with light scattered showers returning wednesday. but then finally, the drying trend will start thursday lasting all next weekend. long. here is a look at sports. and while back to you. >> and now kron 4 sports. >> all right. if you caught that niners game, then, you know, the very thing that gave the seahawks and confidence going into halftime is the very thing that cost them the game with no turnovers in the
