morning news. rain coming down as we speak. his community's struggle to clean up after the stadium with everything you need to know before tomorrow's playoff matchup. >> from the area's local news station, you're watching the kron. 4 morning news at >> good morning. and here we go again with the rain and ari and i'm james. it is falling right now in some pockets heavy. we've got john started things off for us in the weather center with a look at the forecast as we take a look outside, john, we can see it coming down. yeah, it's starting to come down out there for some of us for some of the north bay. you've been steing it for a minute now. but this line of showers in some cases packing a punch with it. >> this is what we've got in san francisco right now. gray

skies and rain fall as really worked its way through already right in the heart of the morning commute, which i know isn't necessarily going make things easy for you. you see some of that heavier shower activity in yellow, stretching the north bay are right down the core of the bay area into the santa cruz mountains. we're going to start here right in the midst of san francisco as well as some of our bridges. you have some heavier showers right here in the middle of the bay affecting the bay bridge. center fell saw some heavy stuff on the golden gate to center fell itself. richmond, san francisco, oakland, you're about to see an uptick in rainfall for you. let's go a little bit further north in the bay santa rose that you saw some heavier stuff as well as over in windsor. that's mostly moving over in the napa county. now, lake county, you've been seeing it consistently rainy over the course of really the past couple of it's not let up for you for a minute. let's head a little further southward. so right back there through the middle of the bay san mateo bridge, you're seeing mostly moderate showers right now. little pocket of heavier stuff right around stanford, palo alto and then up into the

santa cruz mountains, some heavier stuff to further south from their morgan hill down to gilroy. also in the midst of some moderate shower activity. we've got more ahead of us to you see all that sitting offshore right there. that's yet to make its way inland. so don't expect this to be the end of it. a pretty wet morning commute. korea will start to calm things down really late hour on towards 09:00am and we'll see some peeks of sunshine mid morning into early afternoon that sunshine allow some convection storm building and by 3.45, you start to see some darker clouds forming by 04:05:06pm, could even hear some roles of thunder as we make our way through the evening commute, a quiet evening before the heaviest of rain pushes in tomorrow morning. and this is where flooding concerns really become an issue. flood watches are set take effect tomorrow morning lasting through the weekend. after that point, winds already picking up along the coastline. we've had 40 to 50 miles per hour. wind gusts at the coast. so the storm packing a punch with that 50's for current temperatures right

now. most of us will stay there into the afternoon. so not a lot of temperature movement today, but we will see these on and off showers and at times some heavy rainfall rain. right, john, thank you for that. will you talked about the north bay, the east bay? we're starting to see traffic building along one. a 1, 2, >> novato san rafale 80 traveling to richmond, emeryville. we also do have an accident in sausalito that southbound on. i want to store the spencer avenue a highway for also picking up as well and highway. 37, so be mindful that you are starting to see traffic building a bit 90 minute ride into the city slick bay bridge. be careful. 20 minutes, systemwide bar delay in place. 15 minutes. a 80 to 101. as you head across towards the peninsula, richmond, sandra fell bridge. you can see just how sloped the lenses here. so it is coming down the golden gate bridge. 37 to the tolls about 40 minutes because 101 is going slow right now. look how wet it is. drive slower darya. james, back to you. all right. >> went out there and it's

the street, a main artery that connects hayward to castro valley. so that's a problem now is barricaded there. danger signs up and got a lot of work to do sidewalk. really light post all destroyed when the ground underneath eroded and the heavy downpours. repretentative eric swalwell get out there in person and toured the damage yesterday. here's what he has to say. >> to just see it in because so many of us, you know, have just rely on the local infrastructure here. >> there's over 20 examples of critical failures on infrastructure that we and in alameda county as rest to the 9 bay area counties use. >> now all this damage this is going to cost about 52 million dollars to repair. and swalwell says he's asking the state to reimburse the county. they can actually start to work yet until the conditions are better. and if we look at the forecast, that means maybe midweek next week would be of a break. that might be substantial enough to get some work done.

>> we have some breaking news we're following from overnight in east palo alto police officer is recovering after being shot. yeah. so the incident started as a traffic stop and then obviously it escalated. kron four's camila barco. >> is up in the newsroom to explain what happened coming up. >> yeah, well, that officer suffered one gunshot wound and is expected to be ok, the police department says that they have a man in custody and they say that the weapon used is a ghost gun. take a look at this map to give you a better idea of where the shooting took place. it happened just after 11:00pm in east palo alto in the area of 4 ham and purdue avenue. this is an area filled with many homes. investigators say an officer pulled over a car for a traffic stop. but the driver ran away and that's when officer started chasing the man down the block. police say that they were trying to to get the man in custody. but he ended up firing a gun and shooting an officer officer say that they did not fire back and they were able to get that man in custody. the officer shot is a five-year veteran of the east palo alto

police department. their injuries are said to be non life threatening and they're expected to survive. and daria, james, the suspect is willie wiley, a 44 year-old man of east palo alto. he is in custody and this is the firearms officers recovered. officers say it is a ghost gun that's been converted to be fully automatic with a high capacity magazine. and the department continues to investigate the shooting earlier this month, the east palo alto police department. remember one of their own officers who passed away in 2006 after being shot and killed while he was on patrol. i'll send it back to you. all right. thank you for the update. camilla. john. >> well, we are looking at rain pushing through as we speak. some of those heavier showers along 80 from richmond through hercules on up through the late show and eventually up american canyon into the napa valley. definitely a wet morning. it's just the start. morning. it's just the start. we've got a ve

>> you can see sfo right now at that rain falling. let's get over to the weather graphics and you can see that. we've also got some gray skies over quite hour right here. rain actively following their pockets of heavy rain in the santa cruz mountains. also some really strong winds up there. also some pretty good rainfall, intensity of the north bay, too. zooming out. there's that line of showers stretching off shore on up into oregon. that's what's pushing through as we speak, packing a punch as far as winds and rain go. and it's just a storm door opening. it continues tomorrow on into sunday and monday, multiple days of rainfall. and you know what? that adds up to some flooding risk back in the forecast for us. futurecast shows today's burst of rainfall this morning. you will see some peeks of sunshine towards the late morning into early afternoon. that will allow convection storm building in towards 04:05:06pm, today could see a few thunderstorms popping up right in the middle of your drive home from work. we start to come down into the evening and tomorrow brings the most widespread and heaviest of rainfall this weekend. that is where your flooding risk really begins to increase. we

will see around 3 to even 7 inches of rainfall throughout the course of the weekend. and flood watches go back into effect starting tomorrow morning. so keep an eye on that, especially if you are in areas that had previously been flooded over the past couple of weeks. winter storm warnings take effect this afternoon at the crest of this year. 6 feet of new snow fall from the series of systems. love to see that snow pack more than anything else. upper 50's for your highs today. and as we work through this forecast, we stay in those 50's a little bit cooler towards next week. but guess what? those cooler temps accompanied by some drier conditions starting tuesday, rain. all right, john, thank you for that. we're picking up out there. so you'll notice our highways. >> 80 traveling through richmond and reveal right now busy 5.80, traveling through the maze along with we've got an accident that's in san leandro to northern davis 13. if you're taking that, you're going to wait some delays. also traveling along 101. you're definitely seeing conditions slowing 6.80, through san ramon. still nice and like there, though, 17

minutes slick commute into the city right now coupled with a 20 minute systemwide bar delay. looks like we have a hazard here as in the traveling or they're trying to get across towards the peninsula. you can see the visibility pretty pretty low there. 60 80 to 101, with definitely some rain. there. 80 traveling from saint down towards milpitas. about 30 minutes. the south bay 1, 0, 1, 36 minutes. 85 up towards menlo park. well, not as bad as 101, richmond center fell bridge. 8 minutes tolls to it's coming down. you can see that from the camera lens and the golden gate bridge. 43 minutes. that's because of 101 there. you've got some winds. got some fog drive slow darya. james, back to you. thank you, anna. >> all right. attorney general merrick garland on thursday appointed a special counsel to investigate the presence of classified documents were found president joe biden's home in wilmington, delaware. >> and joining us to discuss the political implications of this, michael yaki. good morning.

right side for her senate seat that he actually won that in the top 2. i'm going into the general. it going into the general election and still lost, but it's not unprecedented, but it's certainly in the state of california with many, many democratic politicians who are, the term limits and more during what they're going to be doing next. you know, it's something where you have a lot vision and for a few offices. so i don't think this should this should be surprising. i think it's going to be interesting how many actually get in. you have now partly saying that he's going to announce adam schiff and sen first interest as well. i'm sure that's not even the last of it because we're really focusing katie porter are focusing more the california delegation. and i'm sure there are a lot more in the south that shift really interested in. take it take especially if at some point senator finds a way to say this is her last term. then everyone shoot down

>> 25 on the clock in the north bay, sonoma county. investigators believe the generator running inside of a home is what led to the deaths of 2 men. deputies say a tree trimming crew found the man dead inside of a house in sea ranch on wednesday night. they say the men were in separate bedrooms of the house. there was a generator in the hallway and according to the county sheriff, that generators power switch was still in the on position. but the fuel tank had run dry. detectives with the coroner's office now working identify the man that could from their cause of death. meantime, authorities say this is a warning again against running generators inside buildings because they can release harmful fumes that can result in carbon monoxide poisoning. and in the worst case, even death.

doubt out there. so you have that break. was short-lived. kind of like we were something just flew across the camera or maybe that was your camera. a lot of cameras in here. it was the windshield wiper. so there's the exploratorium right here. yeah, it's wet. got a lot coming down right across san francisco, but also in other parts of the bay area. >> you can see those heavier pockets of rain fall up in the santa looking a little bit worried up there for those of you in the santa cruz mountains. we've got good rainfall in some really strong winds. you had no shortage of storm damage is and this is not the way you like to be waking up after all that for the east bay. it's mostly moderate showers right now. north bay. it's been coming down consistent, especially up around lake county. it's mostly moderate san francisco on up along the east bay shoreline, some heavier pockets over there in solano county from the late show up to fairfield vacaville yet to get it yet. you see those dark clouds on the horizon. and speaking of lake county, i do want to play special attention to you because it's been coming down hard for a couple

of hours. watch for a few swan, small streams up there. a few flooded areas to definitely something that is producing a lot of rain for you in santa cruz mountains. also coming down pretty heavy highway 9 there around felton. we've seen a lot of issues already and that is something that is coming down heavy. and it's also coming along with some strong winds push of heavy rain this morning. it does die dogn over the next couple of hours here we actually see a touch of sunshine towards the tail end of the morning. we'll still see pockets of heavier rain and there specially for the north bay. now towards the afternoon watching closely the skies because we could see some thunderstorm development between 04:05:06pm, some heavy downpours cloud to ground lightning with that. we're going hold off on flood watches for the day today. those will kick off tomorrow morning with get this even heavier rainfall around the corner. winds are very much so an issue, as i've mentioned happen, bay, we've had 40 to 50 miles per hour gusts for you. and temps right now are in the 40's and 50's. so it's cool. umbrellas, rain,

jackets, all the things you've been using so much so far this month. get him back out for today and the weekend rain. all right. bus those umbrellas back out, ok, we do have quite the delays across. >> our highways in the north bay, 101, accident in sausalito southbound south of donahue. so if you're traveling through there, lanes of block and things are going slow, but also along 80 this morning. so richmond, berkeley emeryville is going to take you some time. you can see 24 starting to pick up both on the westbound and eastbound side and traveling through the maze along 13, 5, 88, 80 at this hour. so traffic is typically pretty busy and 8 o'clock out not so much on a friday. so certainly slick conditions are slowing folks down 16 minutes into the city may so that fremont street exit still a 20 minute systemwide bark delay. remember, that means give yourself a lot more time. if you catch a bar today, 18 minutes, 80 to 101, with pretty low visibility via the san mateo bridge. a richmond, sandra fell bridge tolls to one on 8 minutes. you can see

the water on our land. so it's certainly coming down pretty heavy. if you live in the richmond area. well, the golden gate bridge got some fall. 37 to the tolls. 45 minutes with those gusty winds. was pretty backed up like i showed. you saw sleet on the north bay. so that's why you have that. 45 minute drive time again. take a time out there. no need to rush starring. james, back to you. thank you. and there are still trees falling and then with more rain keeps happening. yeah. they can cause in the worst case scenario deaths. and we've seen that a few times here. >> arborist, we've spoken to say they haven't seen anything like this in quite some time. so they're asking everybody be prepared as best they can. they've been working overtime, cleaning up trees and fallen over from past storms in here. you see in the video examples of what they're talking about. this was a tree that fell right in the middle solano avenue in albany. some residents say that they often fall without warning. and one expert that we spoke with says the storms are creating some pretty dangerous conditions for residents who live near around trees.

>> simply, it's all right. so the water, we need the water. we need the rain. so. what happens is all the water is saturating the okay. the root systems could not handle it. >> they're they're giving way. >> arborists say the best thing to do is to have your trees checked annually, especially if it's a big mixture and maybe you neglected tree and one you could see the past could go into, for example, your home or your car. >> you want to watch the where you're where you're parking. be be aware of that. >> and if you don't have an expert, you can also go and just kind of give it a look yourself. it's probably the wise thing to do. and he's they public works. crews are busy because they every time there's a storm, they haven't had a break yesterday, they had a little chance to try to potholes and that have nothing in discovery bay that had some potentially bigger holes open up. kron four's philippe djegal takes a look at there.

>> from 7 o'clock in the morning through the afternoon tending to one pothole after another contra costa county public works. crews identify is now that flood waters have washed off. the were eliminating hazards along our roadways to make them safe on thursday, this focused on bixler road in discovery bay. and manager chris lau says some of these potholes are new. others are old and expanded following the were using asphalt material called cut back >> it's a material that with rocked an oil filling a pothole compacting and rolling in this work is considered routine maintenance but operations pick up during the winter time when the rain weakens the roads. >> we were sending me for our roadways. is water and so water can infiltrate into our cracks and crevices in our payments and go down into the foundation of the road and cause softening of our base

4 million dollars in damage to infrastructure because of these recent storms. and he thinks that cost will only go up. >> the oakland zoo is expected to stay closed until at least next month because of this and shy and sinkhole it initially said it was going to open this coming tuesday. but now they say the sinkhole repairs are going to take longer. zoo has been closed since new year's day. all the animals are safe. the zoo leaders also say they will announce their plans to explain extend glow farhi in the next few weeks because that was affected by this closure. brief break in the wet weather that we got yesterday was a great chance for people to try to recover and do all those repairing that you need to do as best they could force just in walton. >> actually had a chance to go down in santa clara county, talk with officials there who have an app that they hope will give you a little extra warning next time around. >> right around the corner. help people prepare.
