>> from the bay area's local news station. you're watching kron. 4 news at 6. >> it's here is headed to the bay area arriving later tonight, along with some strong winds. good evening and thank you for joining us for kron. 4 news at 6. >> i'm dan thorn and i'm noelle bellow. we are, of course, tracking the storm tonight. the national weather services warning of a moderate risk of excessive rainfall over the next 2 days. and a high wind warning begins for the bay area at 8 o'clock tonight. let's get you right to our 4 zone forecast. meteorologist mabrisa rodriguez standing by with the very latest on this storm. debris said yeah, that's right, dan well, let's take a

look at that atmospheric river. we are tracking light scattered showers with the bulk of the rain, not arriving until shortly before midnight tonight. so let's zoom on into radar for. >> so you could see the scattered showers in your neighborhood, maybe along the san francisco peninsula inching closer towards the south bay near sunnyvale and saratoga. and we're starting to see some light scattered showers right now over guerneville and bodega bay primarily over the north bay coastline. but we are seeing some scattered set scattered showers off the coast and us river set to arrive tonight. so let's time this storm hour by hour. future cast for we are going to track that storm bringing widespread light rain to the bay area by sunday evening. and then shortly this before midnight that some are going to start to notice some moderate pockets in the north bay with the widespread moderate downpours for most of the bay area. >> during the overnight hours and we are going to see some isolated pockets of very heavy

downpours. so this is certainly going to negatively impact your monday morning commute because as you can see by 7 o'clock, that storm track going to shift to the south and east. but don't put away your umbrella just yet. even though we are tracking a fairly dry monday afternoon by the overnight hours tuesday morning. that's when we're going to get another round of severe weather bringing wiser moderate to heavy downpour. so most of the bay area could see 2 to 4 inches of rain. but it's the gusty winds that we have to watch out for. certainly howling last night, especially for those of you in the east bay hills. we saw wind gusts topping 99 miles per hour near hurricane force winds in the bay area. find out what to expect tonight in my full forecast in just a few minutes. stand. well, back to you. thank you. and the the biggest area of concern for the next few days is along the russian river. >> it's expected to reach flood stage tomorrow or tuesday. kron four's gayle ong joining us live from sonoma county. she went to guerneville to see how locals are getting ready. gayle?

>> well, there is an evacuation warning for people who live near the russian river. and locals say they have been keeping an eye on the forecast but don't plan to leave their homes. it was a cloudy, but mostly dry sunday in greenville. but a series of storms flooded the entrance of johnson's beach. >> and the cozy cove pat to the russian river. usually it's just a beach for people to come and hang out and yeah, now word seen it full of water. every ferguson lives nearby with another potent storm expected sunday night into monday. her neighborhood is under an evacuation warning at this point. it's just a warning about impact too. yeah. oh, ferguson experience. major flooding when the rising water crested right below the second floor of her home in 2019. well, she doesn't have any plans to leave her home yet. she is prepared to just making sure anything on the bottom unit is moved up so that if it does flood, we don't use as much as we lost last time and then just making

sure we have enough food and water so that we don't have to worry about trying to get out. neighbors who live in a vacation beach neighborhood near the russian river say they've learned the importance of being prepared from past floods. the pj could not get to us to fix the power pole because of the flooded road. so you learn to be independent. you have generators you have year. >> propane cooking stove you. you just do without. you know, when you walk around, you talk to people when there's nothing else to do when you have no power, we have a generator. we have lots of gas for the generator. >> we have food. we have wood for the wood stove. >> we're good. lot of we have new york. this man says he is not worried about the rising river, but the saturated ground and runoff coming from his neighbor's home into his yard my home. >> he plans to run his water pump all night. >> i like sleep for a couple hours and then i get up in. go

check the pomp so. last night when there was the lightning and stuff it was down came up late for 4 inches. just like that. >> meantime,e, ahead of the storm, the swift water rescue team with a sonoma county fire district taking advantage of the mild weather spending time training in the quiet before the storm. >> and though water rescue team will have their boats ready to go in case of an emergency and and and well after speaking with several locals near the russian river, they say they have their own canoes and kayaks to get around if they get flooded in live in sonoma county, gayle ong kron. 4 news. >> gail, thanks a lot. now to sports, the forty-niners they are to win today to even have a shot at the number one seed in the playoffs and they got it against the lowly arizona car. unfortunately, the philadelphia eagles didn't cooperate with that plan.

>> still a big win today. our kate rooney joining us live from santa clara now, kate, how is this team feeling writing this winning streak into the playoffs? >> they're feeling pretty good. noel kyle shanahan said after the game that he felt good with his team won the division about a month ago. and now they feel even better. yeah, they didn't win that number one seed. they didn't totally control their own destiny. needed some help from the philadelphia eagles. they're the eagles did win, but the forty-niners are happy with the number 2 seed. now they're just awaiting their opponent will find out after sunday night football tonight who that will be if the packers beat the lions tonight on sunday night football, then they will be the ones who are coming here to levi's stadium next weekend for a first-round playoff game. if the lions knock the packers off, if they play spoiler, then it will be the seattle seahawks that familiar appointment cut opponent coming here to levi stadium. couple highlights from this game today. brock purdy, the rookie qb

>> continuing coverage of this atmospheric river. that's on the way california officials have sent a formal request to president joe biden asking him to declare a state of emergency over the storm that will be bearing down on california. take a look at the capitol. the sacramento river rising since yesterday.

>> this is near the tower bridge. the american river was up over its banks today as well. totally submerging a bridge entrance to discovery park. >> as you can see there, the sacramento valley dealing with wind gusts of up to 60 or 70 miles an hour this morning that knocked down some trees like this one, causing him to fall on an unlucky neighbor's car. the wind also causing power outages across the area at this hour, some 60,000 people are without our should say are without power in sacramento county today in the capital, governor newsom urging people across the state to take the storms seriously. these floods are deadly. >> and have now turned to be more deadly. then even the wildfires here in the state of california. common sense. just be cautious over the course of the next week particular, the next day or too.

park. quite a light show throughout the bay area. this is video that was sent in by a kron 4 viewer. and you can see it just lighting up the sky. there. this is about 4.45. this morning, something you could also come here hear that thunder. definitely. i know there was a lot of lightning, a lot of wind last night. lots of trees that were down. i woke up without power like a lot of people across the bay area. meteorologist mabrisa rodriguez standing by. talk to talk about what we are expected to get in the next couple hours. yeah. in fact, rain is going to be heavier than what we experienced last night and also tracking gustier winds with this moderate atmospheric river. so let's track it right now. >> very calm conditions. a few light scattered hit or miss showers. but the bulk of the wet weather out in the pacific and are atmospheric river won't arrive until around 9 o'clock tonight. that's when we're expecting to see some widespread light rain and then we are going to notice some moderate downpours arriving during the overnight hours monday morning. so don't be surprised if you wake up to

the sound of those heavy downpours that's going to continue into your monday morning commute. if you're heading to work or school, please drive safely plan ahead because it is still going to be during the peak of this atmospheric river. word. we are going to see calmer conditions by early into the afternoon, but it's going to be short lived because watch what happens as i fast forward to tuesday morning once again during the overnight hours that atmospheric river really just going to increase in intensity light to moderate and heavy downpours expected once again with drier conditions by tuesday afternoon. and our next shot of wet weather not arriving until the middle of this upcoming week. so we have flood warnings in effect for the russian and guadalupe rivers for parts of the north bay and even santa clara county, a flood watch remains in effect for the rest of the bay area through tuesday. but it's a gusty winds we really have to watch out for once again, we're going to see those winds howl from coastal valleys. we could see anywhere

from 80 mile per hour wind speeds for bay area beaches and our highest peaks. so right now fairly calm conditions out there right now. but we are expecting those winds to really increase tonight during the overnight hours when we noticed that peak of that atmospheric river with calmer conditions by our monday morning. so we will see, though, very dry, calm outlook out there right now. but short-lived temperatures for the most part, we did warm up almost 10 degrees right now. we're in the mid to upper 50's overnight lows tonight. going to remain in the 50's except for santa rosa. 47 degrees for your overnight lows. temperatures tomorrow. very seasonable upper 50's to low 60's. but that storm track going to continue for the next several weeks. i feel like all of the heaviest storms do have been coming overnight, which is pretty good because not that many people are going to be on the roads. but i'd like you said by the morning commute. to be something to. >> the plan for. yeah. watch out for that. and especially ponding as well. i know a lot of potholes out there and

gusty winds. so please drive safely. every said. thank you guys. >> scary moments for a castro valley neighborhood when a large eucalyptus tree came crashing into a home saturday afternoon trapping someone inside alameda county fire crews were able to rescue the person they were taken to the hospital and treated for injuries. neighbors confirmed to kron 4. the homeowner was an oakland police officer and colleagues tell us the officer is recovering friends of the displaced family there spent this morning placing a tarp over the roof of the home to avoid any further damage to their items inside as of sunday afternoon, power lines were still strewn across the street. >> that, you know, the wind was going really strong. and i was just look at these trees and all sudden it just started falling down. it hit the power transformers and the sparks were coming out. i think a lot of the people around here are going to be. calling arborist and try to have him check other trees, maybe think about cutting some down. >> now, tree removal did earlier. this afternoon. crews

are still removing debris from the street right now. but part of the tree is going to remain on top of the house for now. the city >> is only responsible for the street and the sidewalk. some of the neighbors do remain without power. tonight. >> and the this was the scene on west side road in forest as you can see there. that's a a large tree laying across the entire road. scenes like this have a good chance of becoming common as we continue to see this stormy weather and also enforce ville, a mudslide covering one lane of this same road, the saturated ground they're giving way and likely be keeping road crews. very busy. >> in national news tonight, president joe biden has wrapped up a 4 hour visit to the u.s. mexico border. he's now headed to mexico. the president of the stretch of the border and inspected a busy port of entry but did not appear to meet with migrants during his first trip to the region as president his visit

to el paso, texas came as republicans try to blame him for the a record number of migrants crossing into the country upon his arrival. texas governor greg abbott handed the president a letter saying the chaos at the border was the direct result of the president's failure to enforce federal laws. trial over a tesla shareholder lawsuit to be moved from san francisco to texas. musk says negative local media coverage has biased potential jurors against him. the billionaire businessman filed for the change of venue less than 2 weeks before the trial is scheduled to begin. musk's. lawyers say the legal proceeding should take place in federal court in the western district of texas. the shareholder lawsuit stems from musk's tweets in august of 2018 when he said he had sufficient financing to take task a tesla, private at $420. a share. the forty-niners plowing through the cardinals today to win their 10th

levi stadium today against the cardinals and levi's show some love to damar hamlin pre-game. you've got to love it. he is healing fast, which is great to hear 2nd quarter niners up one first and goal elijah mitchell. this is a welcome sight. takes the carry. he gets in the end zone for the touchdown. niners extend the lead to 8 closing moments of the half. brockpurdy drops back. the 5. george kittle with the toe drag. love to see it. san francisco leads 21 to 13 at the half. 3rd quarter after driving down the field. have yourself a day. elijah 5 carries 55 yards. 2 touchdowns. he's back. he's healthy, niners win. 38 to 13, their 10th straight victory to close out the regular season. first time they've done that in franchise history. now the niners, they don't know who they're playing yet. all they can do is weight. but in the meantime, we can go back to levi stadium where we find

kron. 4 sports reporter kate rooney. kate, the niners. they don't know who they'll face next week, but they end the season on such a high 10 straight wins. what was the mood like in that stadium after that final buzzer sounded. >> hey, the forty-niners are as relaxed and happy as i see them all season. kyle shanahan brock purdy, brandon aiyuk. all of those guys that we talked to after the game are very pleased with where they are. however, they feel that they still have a lot of work to do. jason, it is hard to believe that this team started the season at 3, 4, lost 2 starting quarterbacks. and now here they are with the number 2 seed in the nfc. now, today's win over the arizona cardinals was far from perfect. there were definitely some good moments. like you said, elijah mitchell was great in his return. in fact, the first. >> multi-touchdown game of his career. brock purdy continued his improbable run as a rookie quarterback edging himself into the nfl history books. but pretty was one of those

guys who after the game said he doesn't think this team has reached its full potential yet. >> obviously, throughout the year, you want to focus week to week gain momentum and things like that. but obviously we're at the point in the season words, man, regular season is over now. the tournament starts in this is, you know, the real ball that really every single day is going to be vital in terms of getting better. you know, being able to understand what led our opponent's going to be doing, like it matters. so coach, definitely just ehat to us. after the game today. you know, we're already getting ready for what's to come. >> they just need. they just need party to continue throwing touchdowns the way he has been. he now has 6 games with 2 or more touchdown passes. that is the second most ever by a rookie quarterback. he also has 5 straight wins in his first 5 starts. that's second only to ben rothlisberger who had 13 straight as a rookie back in 2004. so no matter what happens for pretty the rest of this season already some pretty impressive stop for him
