about the day and sunday. some more of that rain too. so today, nothing more than a couple of sprinkles. and mostly just for the north bay where we're at right now, you can see that there's definitely some cloud cover and there's some green on the radar, but not near as much as what we're about to see again as another atmospheric river. >> is eyeing the bay area and another soon to follow after that, we have showers up in northern sonoma county, a few in marine county as well. and then on and off up. i-80 from vallejo eventually heading up to sacramento. futurecast shows most of that green popping up in the north bay. most of us staying dry today, though, you will notice a few wet spots on roads this morning from the showers that we saw overnight. now as we work into tomorrow morning, it doesn't take long to get back into the rain 03:45am. right here. and there you go. we'll be seeing heavy rain at times as you're waking up for your saturday. start and on and off through the day as well, middle of the day, but are very heaviest of rain. we'll come saturday night into early sunday morning. that's when those deep pockets of red

arrive. really getting things wet right in the middle of the weekend. we do have flood advisories back in effect starting tomorrow morning through tuesday night. so we're in a break from them today. but a heads up. we're going to be back with them in short order 40's and 50's for current temperatures. san mateo in redwood city at 48, oakland and berkeley at fifty-two degrees. nevado sitting at 50 degrees right now. cool morning. so get those layers on and do watch out for a few showers at times today. mostly for the north bay. as i mentioned today, he's ali, the least likely to see rainfall that really the rest of the forecast. we'll be talking about it. still ahead. as for roads were doing really good for the most part, we're seeing the bay bridge a 7 minute drive across it. not a lot of traffic just yet. als the san mateo bridge rolling at the limit there. nothing holding you up. we do have a few showers on the richmond center fell bridge and that is making for a wet crossing. but you're doing so without any traffic. and the golden gate bridge looking great as well. improvements in san francisco. we saw that incident on to 80.

we did the roadway being closed, but have reports that southbound is now reopened. major incident here with major injuries and in fact affected northbound lanes as well. but we are seeing improvements as this opens back up. james. thank you, john. it is 4 32 and in the north bay. just want to remind you, in order is still in effect for those living to the russian river up in sonoma county. >> want to keep this in mind. we've got rain coming this weekend in this map shows the affected area stretching from healdsburg out to jenner. the sonoma county sheriffs says the russian river is expected to crest at 33 anybody below the 40 foot flood level is asked to be prepared to leave at a moment's notice. you got to have that go bag ready with all of your central medicines, your prescriptions, your documents, whatever you might need, but you can grab and get out if the call comes in. also in the north bay, a young couple has lost their toddler after a redwood tree came crashing down into their home

in this week's storm kron four's rob nesbitt talk with the boy's grandmother up in occidental. flooding and power outages is one thing with this storm. but loss of life is the most serious. and that's what happened to a toddler at this home behind me. >> devastating a home destroyed pickup truck crushed a nightmare. but the biggest loss on joy road in occidental wednesday was the death of 2 year-old dion to keeney his grandmother. eileen keeney shared her memories of little in on with me full of life. full of joy. >> he happiness to everybody connected with no matter if use at a grocery store at the par. >> according to the sonoma county sheriff's office, the toddler was sitting on the living room couch around 05:30pm, strong winds brought a redwood tree down onto the home through the ceiling and onto we on occidental fire. chief from minority was the first to arrive on >> he was kind of my child not

breathing. the chief and paramedics did what they could to resuscitate. >> but it wasn't enough. leonardi says there were multiple calls wednesday night to downed power lines and trees onto homes. but this was the worst he on parents, dan, and you show are now left to pick up the pieces of what's left of their home. >> they're a hard time. >> you know i'm holding onto the memories of their toddler nickname goldie. >> to have something like this happens. as soon the state. >> and occidental rob nesbitt kron, 4 news. >> well, in the east bay, residents in the area of niles canyon are being advised to leave their homes right now because wednesday's rainfall could cause trees to fall down flooding mud slides. when you add in what's expected to come tomorrow, alameda county officials are recommending people who live on kill care road paula mars road and canyon road. they should evacuate in advance of this weekend's rain. just want to let you know that they're putting that word out.

meanwhile, mud and rocks are continuing to slide off hillsides along marsh creek road. the 10 mile stretch between brentwood and clayton is still closed aside from pockets of standing water and mud and rocks, they're still sliding off the hillsides, making it pretty dangerous. crews are spread out right now throughout the county responding to reports of downed trees and flooding and more slides. but they say that clearing up marsh creek road is a priority right now. they're using vacuum trucks to try to do that work. >> main goal is help up any kind of a blockage. i might be in our catch basins and just to keep that water flowing. and crews are also keeping a close eye on the adjacent creek, which in some cases, has breached. >> private roads inundating them. so we'll keep you updated on their work there. meanwhile, santa cruz county might never be the same. piers split in half and businesses flooded and in some cases stranded after the storm brought huge waves and high tides that did a tremendous amount of destruction to the coastline. kron four's justine waltman has a look at the

damage. >> waves high tide proved to be too much for capital, a village. the water rushed in and ruin waterfront businesses, including mai thai beach restaurant where the owner spent the day salvaging what he could. >> we did everything we could we you know, we got our sandbags. we kind of kept the doors and everything, but it's not even the doors or windows completely blown out. the floor boards have been the floor foundation that shifted. there's up and down that aisle. and honestly, i don't think there was really anything we could have done to prepare for the storm also damaged the iconic cement ship. it broke away from the pier at seacliff state beach. >> a section of the split in half and collapsed into the ocean. according to santa cruz county, both the capitol and at last year's have significant damage and will be

closed until further notice. same for the santa cruz war. too much water, so much mud and no power read huge mass that will take months to clean up a big blow to beautiful community. rocket from on the water just have to believe these kinds of everything is. it just takes time and money. >> well, that was kron four's. justine waltman reporting santa cruz county wants people obviously to avoid the coast for now, it is just way too dangerous. and take a look at this and rough l police releasing video. her rescue during wednesday's storm. officers say they had to rescue 2 passengers off of a boat. they weye able to bring them back to shore safely. but was pretty scary situation for them as they were waiting for rescuers to get out to him in rough seas. the california office of emergency services is preparing for more dangerous weather on the way we've been trying to warn you

about that wednesday. the governor issued a rare statewide emergency declaration and activated the state's response to a level one, which is the highest possible level of activation. and that will allow agencies to work together to more easily provide assistance and resources on the ground. among those resources, 4 million sandbags distributed statewide 400,000 tons of rock to help shore up levees that are in danger and 180 out of state utility crews to help in state crews respond to power outages and try and restore power too many people as possible. >> how just persist our rivers and streams will continue to rise even when the sun's out for a handful of days. so really trying to reach out to vulnerable californians, older individuals who may rely medical equipment, those with access and functional needs and those experiencing homelessness. >> now the department of water resources has set up a center to actively monitor flood danger statewide. and that includes active communication

with the army corps of engineers to make sure that smaller reservoirs don't overflow into their surrounding communities. all right. now to another big story that we're following this morning. a security guard gunned down while working in san francisco's japantown. police have arrested 2 teens in this murder kron four's lcec ammonium has more on what we know so far. >> sfpd responded to the kindle kamiyah mall at webster and gary streets for at least one shot fired at around 5 o'clock wednesday night. it was enotgh to kill a security guard on the job. first responders trying to help the man, but he died then and there it is a huge tragedy for our community. >> but we're going you know, really come together so that >> can make positive changes. >> grace, hurry, carry with the japan town community benefit district identified the victim by his first name. only calling him gavin. she said he started the job in november, but in the short amount of time, all employees came to love him very much.

>> he was a good people person. and, you know, just really so it for it was really heartbreaking to hear officers arrested 2 teen boys, a 15 year-old for murder and a 14 year-old as an accessory to the murder. it was explained how sfpd identified the suspects during the investigation. >> san francisco board supervisor dean preston who oversees the district did not respond for comment, but acknowledge the shooting on social media calling it devastating saying he is shocked and saddened and shared his condolences to the victims, loved ones. >> well, as kron four's ella sogomonian reporting for us this morning. a recurring along with the property manager says that they are not releasing video surveillance and that merchants are now calling for a meeting with city leaders to talk about the crime prevention. so that doesn't happen again. well, developing this morning, cbs and walgreens are planning to sell prescription abortion pills. now that the fda is allowing pharmacies to do so.

both drugstores say that they will be getting certified so that they can dispense these pills to patients in states where abortion is still legal before the fda's recent approval. the pills could only be dispensed through clinics or doctors or by a few mail order pharmacies. the abortion pills are proved to end the pregnancy through the 10th week. and scientists have developed what they think is a therapy that could program live cancer cells to kill off tumors. doctors at brigham and women's hospital say that this technique is able to trigger the body's own immune system to kind of work in the way that we the vaccine does to protect us from the disease. they can do this to try and kill cancer. so far the treatments only been tested on tumors in mice, but the result of pretty promising. and so doctors say this could reach the clinical testing phase within 3 to 5 years. >> all right. we'll take a break. it's 4.41. coming up next on the kron. 4 morning news food for a pharaoh. we're

just been way too much all at once. and obviously we've had 2 storms that have had quite the negative impact for us now. >> we are going to be looking at 2 more atmospheric rivers. what arriving this weekend in one into early next work week. we're setting this morning, obviously still a little bit breezy pier 15 got the flag blowing around that. steady breeze right there. next atmospheric river insight sitting immediately to the west of us today, a much calmer day. we did have a few overnight light showers and we do have a few of those showers still hanging out, especially in the north bay. that's something that we will see at times today. if you north bay sprinkles and up into the santa cruz mountains, but most of us across the bay, as you can see, fairly quiet. now, timing out futurecast. we do have rain for returning to the bay area before you even get up tomorrow morning. showers pretty heavy at times as your awakening for your saturday. start and we are going to be looking at a few isolated pockets of heavy rain into the middle of the day, too. the very heaviest this weekend, though, really arrives out. you go to bed saturday night into early sunday morning

during your predawn hours of sunday morning. some really, really heavy stuff making its way through on some already saturated ground. so that can result in some flooded spots out there all over again. now, rainfall estimates over the next week we've got 5 to 10 inches in some spots that we're going to be seeing. this is spread out over the course of the next 10 days but a whole lot more rain. still ahead of u.s., winter storm warnings go back into effect in the sierra at 04:00am tomorrow morning through 04:00am sunday. so we've got more of those to expect up there today as one of your better travel days to get up into the sierra tomorrow through the weekend, going to be a little bit rougher moving around up there 50's to 60's for your daytime highs today. as for the next 7 days, we remain pretty solidly in those 50's. we will see rainfall returning the heaviest of it saturday night into sunday morning. and then again on into monday. that's your next atmospheric river. but showers linger all the way through next week. as for roads were doing good out there. it is early as friday helping to

keep the friday light around 7 minutes to get you across the bay bridge. the san mateo bridge, a 12 minute hall over it. we are seeing the richmond, sandra fell bridge on the wet side. but you are looking at any traffic yet. so just take it slower. and the golden gate bridge, 19 minutes from novato to the tolls, james. all right. thank you very much, john. some brighter news on a difficult situation. >> buffalo bills damar hamlin is awake now and communicating with family and medical staff. according to the doctors who've been treating him. hamlin has been in hospital since collapsing on the field and reporter exit. your walton has the very latest now on his improving condition. >> 1400 roses delivered to damar hamlin. the bill safety opening his eyes for the first time since that scary moment during monday night football. the hospital delivering these encouraging messages. >> first question of the road when started to wake, it was that was that we went. so we know that is really it's not only that the lights are on. you know, that is all and that

>> welcome back. it is 4.54. we had a little shaking up along the north coast in a pretty active area of 3.0 point 5 magnitude earthquake centered nearby eureka up in mendocino county or i should say, humboldt county. this occurred at 04:27am. up there along the north coast. as we know this is an area that has seen quite a lot of activity lately. as far as earthquakes

go mostly just south of the area where this epicenter was. so this one being a little bit further northward and that swarm of 5 magnitude earthquakes were just a few weeks back. now, as far as we go with the rainfall, that's been the latest news. another rounds of heavy, wet weather just around the corner. another atmospheric river set up immediately to the west of us and that will start to impact us before you even get up in the morning tomorrow. now today, we're really sitting it out getting a bit of a breather from the heaviest of rainfall. we have a couple of light sprinkles. really light showers possible for the north bay this morning. already a few wet spots. richmond center fell bridge. one of those spots that is on the weather side of things right now. but overall today compared to read the rest of the forecast, a much needed break. opportunity to get outside of it, especially into the start of the weekend. as i mentioned tomorrow, before you even get up in the morning, we'll see showers returning on and off areas of heavy rainfall specially likely during morning hours

starting to dry out, which is kind nice, dry and we're in. we've got some good rain right now. john was showers most likely for the north bay this morning. and i also saw some light conditions in san francisco is enough to make things a little slick as you're getting out compared to what we had been seeing is a d it's nothing too much to be alarmed about. but yeah, definitely enough to slow you down. just a touch. >> pier 15 right there. you've got a steady breeze right there at the embarcadero. this is something that will continue. we will see high winds on in the weekend, too, as a return of an atmospheric river just around the corner. we're going to see 2 more atmospheric rivers. in fact, just in the next couple of days. as daria mentioned, we do have some action on the radar, especially for the north bay. right now. it's really valais. whoa. i'm looking not up 80. that has our most widespread of showers north coast. also looking at some rain and we do have some light sprinkles on the peninsula to it is enough to get a few wet spots out there. so slow it down. we'll continue to see that chance of showers thho
