>> from the bay area's local news station. you're watching kron. 4 news at 6. >> now at 6, a tragic accident on the peninsula. 2 people are dead and a 3rd person may be missing. and san mateo county after a late night car crash at pasco darrow state beach. goodoevening and welcome to kron. 4 news at 6. i'm dan thorn and i'm noelle bellow as authorities search for that possible 3rd person. the question remains. >> how they ended up driving off that cliff in the first place across forcefully call reports. >> why the car drove off the cliff is still unclear. but the california highway patrol does confirm. >> that a man possibly in his

40's has died. a girl was also killed. >> the search continued into the morning for a possible 3rd victim. but that person was not found in the u.s. coast guard suspended its search just before 9 o'clock in the morning. >> we're told the crash here at prescott arrow state beach happened just before 9 o'clock friday night. the chp says in 2012, toyota tacoma driving down pescadero creek road headed toward the ocean, continue through the highway. one intersection and the beach parking lot before falling 30 feet down the cliff. the car was partially submerged in the water. >> the man was found dead about an hour after the crash. the girl located inside the car at around 1 o'clock in the morning. both victims are from freedom, california. some of things that happen in cases like this is a person could be. >> and the influence of alcohol or drugs that could be going to be that those, you know, those falling out of love, those falling at the

event last night. but in the way, they got to ready to drive that vehicle. >> and be ready for anything that can happen. and in this case, what happened then as in the as the investigation continues? >> we'll learn more and more. either way, it's a very surprising that we lost 2 lights and possibly through the coast guard believes that this time only 2 people were inside the car. but if at any point investigators determined point investigators determined there was a 3rd person, as for the crash itself, the chp says at this point it's unclear if drugs or alcohol were factors. >> in san mateo county fleet of all kron, 4 news. >> some fire department heroics earlier today, a man was stuck 80 feet up on the transbay terminal building on mission street in san francisco, firefighters were able to rescue the man get him down safely at around 07:00am. they say the man was experiencing a behavioral emergency. he was taken to a local emergency room for evaluation in the south bay.

the coroner's office says determined fentanyl toxicity is what caused the death. a former san jose police officer dish on packer. the 24 year-old rookie officer was found dead in his pitas home back in march. packer was a football star at san jose state before pursuing a career in law enforcement. the investigation into his death is ongoing. the san jose police chief said, quote, any allegation of illegal drug use by a san jose police officer is concerning. we will, of course, continue to update this story as more information becomes available. >> to the east bay now where one man is in the hospital after an early morning shooting in oakland. police found him just after 03:00am near 30th and telegraph avenue. investigators say the man was shot during a robbery. so far no suspect has been arrested. the victim is in critical condition. in walnut creek. the owners of a hair salon and plant shop are hoping police can track down the people they say, broke into their store this week and got away with thousands of dollars in goods. take a look at the surveillance footage. you can see the 2 people

violence. that's right. families from oakland, richmond, fairfield and vallejo releasing balloons today to honor the lives lost to violent crimes as vigils. part of the fort 4th annual survivors speak healing vigil day of action. >> to mark national crime victims rights week. the event is one of dozens in cities across the country. >> the union representing about 5,000 nurses at stanford, health care and lucile packard children's hospital. reached a tentative agreement on a new contract. now this could end their strike. that began back on monday. union reps say if approved the deal would give their members a 7% wage increase this year, along with a 5% increase next april. >> another set for april 2020 for the deal. also includes an increase to the nurses, retirement benefits and an extra week of vacation. for all nurses beginning in 2024. but the union members still have to vote on this deal this weekend before anything becomes official. about 5,000 nurses at both facilities.

>> went on strike monday over working conditions and staff shortages. >> and mental health workers in the state may soon be getting a big boost to san francisco. senator scott wiener's behavioral health workforce revitalization act has passed a committee vote. it would provide money for hiring and performance bonuses for mental health professionals like psychiatrists and behavioral support technicians. it would also provide stipends to students who pursue a master's degree in social work program and create a network to connect mental health professionals with openings across the state. >> a trail of destruction left behind by a massive tornado that ripped through a small town in kansas overnight. as you can see here. >> terrifying tornado there. officials say hundreds of homes and other buildings were destroyed and more than 15,000 people are now without power. this is all in andover. kansas scope of the damage isn't fully known just yet as the long recovery process is just beginning. one family describing what it was like as

>> while that obviously did add some moisture to the vegetation in recent weeks and months. it also added to what we call the flashy the grass. it made it the grass a lot taller. and so that means that the fire can spread more quickly, especially if you get some wind behind it. the number one piece of advice is to start creating defensible space around your home as well as keeping your car and any tools you use in good working order to avoid sparks. that could trigger a wildfire. >> cal fire is also encouraging san mateo county residents to attend this year's disaster preparedness day. it is set for july 30th. >> time now to talk a little bit about our weather forecast evening. earlier today, i was driving across the bay bridge and those white caps. they were everywhere. yeah. all across the bay and in fact, are going to continue to see those white caps not just tomorrow, but even monday as well. so if you're hoping to get a break from the winds hate to be the bearer of bad news, not going to happen

anytime soon. we do have some storms to our north trying to make its way into the bay area. more of a wind storm, then actual rainmaker. but it is cooling us to below average temperatures for most bay area cities today. very seasonal nonetheless, especially for those of you in oakland, 67 degrees exactly where you should be for this time of year. but for everyone else certainly felt that cool. sea breeze influence downtown san francisco only warming up to 7.60, degrees with concord. 76 degrees. a few degrees above average. there are some more of a northerly offshore wind flow. but we are tracking very clear sky conditions because that cloud cover is nonexistent. thanks to that wind storm. the gusty us to napa 20 mile per sustained winds with gusts near that. 35 mile per hour range. but radar we're tracking very clear sky conditions and any chance of rain really just to our north, not even expected to make its way into the north. the unfortunately that storm track not going to shift southward. so with the tail end of that

storm, we're going to see more winds about 30 miles per hour or less in the coming days. and unfortunately, no rain monday and even thursday of next week. but temperatures out there right now starting to cool down about a 60 degree difference right now between half moon bay. and even for those of you in concord, 67 degrees there with half moon bay at 53 degrees. so very unique microclimate forecast overnight lows tonight low to mid and upper 40's with anti up only cooling down into the low 50's and high temperatures tomorrow warming up mid 70's for concord n livermore at 77 degrees. santa rosa flirting with 80's at 79 degrees downtown san francisco out of the low 60's and in the mid 60's. instead, thanks to those northerly winds. we are going to cool down monday about 5 to 10 degrees and then warming up 5 to 15 degrees above average wednesday with mid 80's for warmest inland valleys, mid 70's along the east bay shoreline still holding steady in the mid 60's. for those of you along the coast. back to dan and well, thanks greece. and coming up in sports, the

this is really cute. the la zoo is celebrating the birth of its newest giraffe. the healthy calf only 3 weeks old, but he's already 6 foot 7. so just a little taller than weighing about 172 keepers say he is the tallest giraffe calf in the zoo's history. the birth comes as drops are facing worldwide extinction. so it's good to get a new little one in the they're trying to decide a name for the big fella. still meanwhile, deputies in a small colorado town outside of denver got several calls recently about a pack of wolves roaming through a neighborhood. turns out, though, it's a group of saint was shot pretty far away. as you can understand how they were mistaken for wolves. those big guys, apparently the dogs have a history of escaping from their enclosure. they are back home for now, though, there are mines. we have the movie beethoven. yes, totally. just like wreaking havoc is always getting in
