threatening to burn. the business is down because of their health rules and enforcement. good evening, everybody. thanks for being with us on kron. 4 news at 9 o'clock. i'm grant lotus. vicki liviakis kron four's. dan thorn live for us in the newsroom tonight. he joins us with more from the business owners. dan, this is getting ridiculous and that's right. begin grant these threats have come as marin county is experiencing a spike in covid-19 cases. >> the owner of one of the threat and businesses says that he understands the frustrations. some people might have over covid-19 restrictions but threatening our son is going way too far. >> medicine message taped to the door of a sandra fell. jim, it reads if the vaccine mandate isn't lifted within one week. this place burns obviously voice carries to threaten a business. i think it's a silly unnecessary and it's pretty scary. michael jenkins is the owner of body kinetics health club. he says the threat was founded the business sunday morning after someone stocking on the door

the night before jenkins says he's not only concerned by the threat but confused by it. the club has been following the county's current health guidance. but there's no vaccine mandate. i get that. it's not comfortable to work out with masks. at times we have outdoor areas and all 3 of our clocks that they can outside work out if you're not back, saying without masks. but if you're indoors it is required that people provide a vaccination card just days before this nasty handwritten note was found a similar threat popped up at the paper mill creek saloon in force knowles. we've received some pushback on a vaccination policy no, no. direct threats or some matter of time before we got threat in this manner. manager jared lit when says the bar has had a strict vaccination policy and recently warned people on social media about positive covid cases among some customers and musicians marin county overall has seen an uptick in cases post thanksgiving as of thursday. it's the only bay area county under the cdc's high

transmission category in response to the threats. more security measures will be taken at jenkins health club. >> an outdoor camera and more flood lights will be installed. both business owners hope people can understand these rules are meant to keep people safe. i understand that people out there that aren't happy with it. or so that go on and be, you know, be open for people to be able work out. kind wonder and safe environment. >> well, the saloon is offering a $1000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction of the suspect, marin county deputies and sandra fell police are investigating grant vicki. >> yeah. dan, it doesn't sound like the business had one of those security cameras in front, but certainly there are other businesses around that may have had going to be heard any. word on whether they've gotten some imagery. >> no imagery. the only explanation that we have heard is on the gentleman was apparently wearing a ski mask and also dark colored clothing. but no description of the suspect has been made available. >> also confuse criminal at

that. dan thorn, thank you for that live report. thank you, dan pleasanton. police say that they are increasing the number of officers patrolling shopping centers throughout the city. the effort is in response to the retail theft and that they partnered with local retail investigators loss prevention agents and mall security. and as well as outside agencies to cover the area. police say that since november 22nd officers have recovered several stolen cars stopped a suspect too tried to flee with the stolen person made several arrests. when bands of organized steve's descended on union square last month to steal from businesses seem like all over the place. san francisco. >> responded by inundating that area with officers. yeah. i was out there today and there were quite a few tonight as a conference. dan kerman reports for us with the holiday shopping season. now peaking this strategy appears to be working. >> following smash-and-grab

burglaries in november. 19 san francisco police flooded the area in and around union square with officers and so far it appears to have done the trick. police say between november 20th and december 6th assaults have dropped from 3 to one. burglaries are down more than 90% from 11 to one and thefts are down 82% from 67 to 12 for grateful to the woman in. >> man of the san francisco police department being out there and helping too create a safe environment for our businesses and our customers. retailers like gump's are pleased with the extra law enforcement presence. >> and they say their customers are as well. >> for the majority of our customers. and speaking with they're pleased with police presence. they feel comfortable. they feel more safe and there you hear to get out and about and to get their holiday shopping to police a promise to keep the cop on every corner approach in place until further notice. >> retailers believe the city

understands this can't be a short-term commitment. >> that's why they're hoping they pony up the dollars to keep this operation going well past the holidays. dan kerman kron 4 news. do they ever get caught. that's what some people wonder as they see car after car with broken glass in san francisco. >> now san francisco police say they have arrested a group of suspects allegedly connected to a series of armed car burglaries throughout the city. we have a photo from one of the cases they investigated here. police say officers from the central station used spike strips to flatten the tires of the armed group that was trying to get away. police say a stolen car and several guns were recovered. now to east oakland where a woman was shot along international boulevard this morning. it happened a little after 10:00am near 80th avenue when officers arrived, the woman was taken to the hospital where she was listed in stable condition. no arrests have been made and it is not clear what prompted the

shooting. anybody with info pictures or video is asked to call opd. >> i hope knows that i admired his dedication watching him work full time and still making time to study to advance his career. i hope he knows that i'm better man because of him. >> in reference to this games. to my player one. we will for ever, eat. know she's son. >> and tonight we continue to honor the life of kevin nishita today, a memorial service was held for him as police continue to search for the suspect who gunned down the kron 4 security guard while he was protecting one of our own was a celebration of life in a somber goodbye. hundreds of people gathered in san jose today to honor kevin nishita kron four's rob fladeboe was at the memorial service and has this report.

>> term and a watch because a remarkable career and a remarkable man whose legacy is not lost on those who alongside him and called him officer has been rather father and friend. the san jose. rob fladeboe kron 4 news. >> compassionate caring and funny. he is missed in the day before thanksgiving as just a couple weeks ago, it was around noon in the afternoon. a crowd for a reporter was on assignment covering a retail theft that happened in oakland. the shooter was the security guard protecting our reporter when somebody suddenly got out of a car, shot him in the process of trying to steal the camera equipment. our reporter. reporter was physically uninjured, but shooter was hospitalized after being shot and he died a few days later at this time no arrests have been made in the case. authorities say they believe someone has cell phone video connected to that shooting and oakland police are offering a

$38,500 reward for information leading to an arrest, a suspect vehicle here continues to be sought in the case said to be a 2004 to 2008 acura tl with a sunroof had no license plate at the time in the front authorities say this is believed to be the same vehicle involved in an armed robbery in san francisco just 2 days before the was shot. and if you'd like to help kevin, the shooter's family. a fund has been set up a cash or check donation can be made to the kevin issued a trust at any metropolitan bank location you can donate in person or send it in the mail. the address is there and we've posted all of this info on our website. kron 4 dot com. the president of california's medical board group says that a group of anti-vaxxers stopped her at her own home and then followed her to work for a long joins us live here in the studio. >> with details. gail, this is not okay. >> yeah. cristina loss and he was a former mayor of on a creek describes as a

terrifying experience and she sharing what happened to shed light on what she calls unacceptable tactics of intimidation. on monday the president of california's medical board says she was stopped at her walnut creek home. >> and later at her office in a series of tweets christina lawson described what happened? she shared this photo of a white suv parked in front of her in a parking garage at work. she says 4 men jumped out of the suv with cameras and confronted her lawson says the men identified themselves as members of the organization. america's frontline doctors. a group known to criticize the covid-19 vaccine and is under investigation by congress for allegedly spreading disinformation about the coronavirus and unproven treatments. lawson says the group told law enforcement they wanted to interview her kron 4 reached out to america's frontline doctors but have not heard back in a second photo. she took a picture of the same vehicle parked outside her home that morning. another tweet reads in part to start the day. the group park their rental suv

we have since learned that that person has died. photos. this map shows the attempted rescue little earlier today, san francisco police say that the victim was a fully close man. it's not known why or how that man ended up in the water. all right. up to the sierra we go as we talk about the weather and how about that? some fresh snowfall there. >> our guy ken wayne sent the video in this is from tahoe, vista here in the bay area. we're waiting on a big storm this weekend and crazy that here we are. what mid december and there really any snow before that. well. and now there is a chief meteorologist lawrence karnow here to fill us just in time for the holidays would be really things are going to get going in the high country here, too. we'll see plenty of rain high country, though, while we're going to see a ton of snow. it's going make for mess of things, several feet of snow even down to about 4,000 feet. but you get and some of the upper reaches of this year. you're going to be talking 7,

maybe 10 feet of snow, maybe more by the following weekend out there now kind of a quiet night. you see a little snow on the side of the roses. donner summit outside right now. roadways are open and clear. that will be the big problem is lot of folks don't want to get up there and enjoy the snow, but it's going to have to really time it out in between these storms and i think is going to be tough, right as we get into saturday night and sunday morning, once the storm gets going, it is going to go for a while. in fact, a winter storm watches are going up as we head in toward a saturday evening and right through tuesday. but we're going to see a series of storms rolling on through. they're going make things very active across the bay area and the sierra nevada and for at least the next week or so, maybe right through the christmas holiday out of the golden gate bridge right now. it is clear skies out there. get ready for a very cold night. cold front making its way to the south. now, all arctic air kind of piling into the bay area going make for all of the coldest night of the year so far dry as can be no threat of any rainfall for tonight. tomorrow looks good, too. after that, everything

changes and quite drastically as we get lot of part of the weekend. here's a cold front in southern california now clear skies around the bay area. but then as we get to sunday, you see this train of moisture. this is one of the pineapple express the atmospheric river events. we talk about latching on to some of that moisture all the way to the tropics, bringing a backup in the bay area and it's going to stall out. we've got an area of low pressure is going to dive on the backside. look at the front. once you get stuck here on set on sunday. it keeps going right through monday into the afternoon. we're talking maybe 24 hours, maybe 30 for 30 hours or so of solid rainfall around the bay area that is going to drop a ton of rain outside possibility. some flash flooding very, very iikely with this kind of storm system and some debris flows all as well. showers will likely continue as we get in toward looks like tuesday as well. we're going to see the showers continue then and then another storm falling right behind that. that will be a cold one dropping on in. so we've got them all lined up now it's amazing this year. so far. starting out like

gangbusters completely went quiet were locked. talk about all that heat. and here we go again. we may see 5 plus inches of rain right here in san that's real similar to that atmospheric river that came october that a strong atmospheric river riverbend. this one more like a moderate. but still, if that storm system stalls, that's everything to the storm if it stalls out, it is just going to pump all that rain. on monday. it. how hard is it to to know when it will stall like the day before would give a better idea. where is it really just as it's coming through. i've got a pretty good idea that this thing is going to stall depends on how long if it stays longer. another 6 to 8 hours long that i think will then we start to worry about the major rivers right now. i think the major rivers like the map of the russian. okay. but we're going to keep our eyes on that for you, that's for sure. sure. you will. thanks links. the oakland unified school district is now giving families more time to meet the covid vaccine. requirement. officials say they'll start enforcing the vaccine mandate on january 31st. >> that's 30 days later than the original deadline but for

some and a harry spoke to board members about this change and how close the district is to getting the majority of students vaccinated. >> the oakland unified school district put the vaccine mandate in place back in september giving families several months before it would take effect on january 1st school board. vice president sam davis tells me it still goes into effect on that date. but there's a 30 day grace period before it will be enforced recognizing it's the holidays. >> people are trying to appointments with their doctors, too. get the vaccine to get paperwork signed. usd school board director for district 5 mike hutchinson says this change. >> could continue to make things difficult. i think it's just going to add more confusion to the process because now we have 2 separate dates. he's one of 2 school board members that voted against the vaccine mandate. he thinks the district should defer to the state which will likely require kids 12 and

older to be vaccinated against covid-19 starting in the fall of 2022. and so i don't think it makes sense for us as a local district to move out ahead of that. davis says the district is working on reaching out to every single family that doesn't have vaccine verification. it's been inching up. so we're at 62% of students, 12 and up are vaccinated. >> and some others have also started requesting you know, medical exemptions, personal belief exemptions. that means about 38% of students may be unvaccinated and haven't requested any sort of exemption. >> that's another concern for hutchinson. we're potentially looking at thousands of students being forced out of in-person instruction. we do not have the capacity right now. >> to accommodate thousands more students in our distance learning program, both members of the school board say they believe every family should talk to their doctor about the risks and benefits of the vaccine. >> since need to be vaccinated or apply for an exemption

before the vaccine mandate enforcement begins on january 31st. amanda hari kron 4 news. >> the cdc has authorized the pfizer booster shot for 1617 year-olds. this clears the way for millions more teenagers to get the booster shot. cdc director rochelle walensky says that the teens can get their shot if they are at least 6 months past their initial pfizer vaccination series. with more than 1200 parklets in san francisco. a lot of people are drawing attention to the city's guidelines for outdoor spaces. today. their concerns were heard at least by some mayor london breed announcing a nine-month extension for the bars and restaurants to be able to make changes kron four's. rob nesbitt tells us how the business owners are reacting tonight. >> san francisco restaurant and bar owners were happy this summer when the city decided to make shared space is permanent. but they weren't thrilled to have june until next year to comply with new guidelines. this is exactly what we asked for and exactly

what we needed. restaurant and bar owners are breathing a sigh of relief with their parklets founder of the san francisco bar owner alliance. ben bleiman says his 500 members were starting to panic with the notices. they were getting from public works and fire safety. you know, you have 14 days to fix this and start finding you. $250. the first day $500. second day. like really scary stuff to major requirements. >> parklets must be moved 3 away from the corners of s and intersections. mayor london breed announced legislation thursday that will extend the deadline owners have to make changes to their shared spaces from june of 2022 to march of 2023. this is really great executive director of the golden gate restaurant association. laurie thomas says it's a nine-month extension that was needed with so many covid unknowns. let's just get some more time here. >> we mcconnell. we have supply chain issues. we have a lot different rules and regulations. >> mayor breed says that city inspectors will only provide notices of correction to

businesses who shared spaces pose a severe safety or accessibility issue. her nine-month extension gives the majority more time for the possibility of reconstruction and $2500 grants to those needing help paying for it. we know the downtown area still much lower than we'd like to see it. and we want to help all of our businesses recover and do it safely. of course, giving the public an outdoor covid safe option. there's a lot of people who do not want to go indoor still right. and and having these park, which is really, really, really important to be to. >> serve outdoors and continue our businesses. mayor breed's ordinance will need approval from the board of supervisors. but the majority of supervisors have shown support for the extension in the past. >> in san francisco. i'm rob nesbitt kron 4 news outdoor dining is going to be sticking around in sunnyvale a while longer as well. the city council there voting not to continue its outdoor dining program. that program was adopted. >> by the city on july 27th of this year and it was set to expire at the end of 2021 this

>> second. okay. take your head con dao conversations between officers and the public in the city of alameda will soon be analyzed using a new body camera audio technology platform that is programmed to flag at risk behavior. we have the opportunity to de-escalate. >> any type of situation. by the way, that we communicate with others. i'm excited that we're the first in california that's going to have this technology alameda police chief. the shot joshi has only been on the job for 6 months and made acquiring the at risk a language detection system. one of his top priorities. he explains how it works. this technology points directly to sentiment within the conversation. it identifies good interactions and in their identifies at risk interactions. we can also even put in there. we want to know every time our officer says some afraid something like is there anything else i can do just to support chief. joel, she says the goal is to use

at 9, the mother of a teenager is facing charges after her daughter punched another girl during a basketball game. the young girl she was left with a concussion after that attack. the orange county district attorney says that he decided to charge the mom because she could clearly be heard on the video encouraging her daughter to throw the punch. 44 year-old la tear ashanti hunt of low was charged with 2 misdemeanors contributing to the delinquency of a minor and battery. she could face up to a year in jail if convicted. a 25 year-old murder case in crockett has now been solves the contra costa sheriff's office says dna has helped them identify danny lamont hamilton as the suspect in the killing of priscilla lewis. >> sheriff's officials say lewis's body was found in the basement of the 4 corners restaurant where she worked as a server in 1996 hamilton is currently serving a 295 year prison sentence in san diego

for another assault case detectives say this is still an active investigation. and if you have any information, you're asked to contact the contra costa county sheriff's office. >> actor jussie smollett has been found guilty on 5 of 6 felony counts in connection with this staging a racist anti-gay attack in chicago. the jury deliberated about 8 hours over 2 days. 2 brothers testified smollett recruited them to fake the attack near his home in downtown chicago. this is back in january of 2019. reporter kailey the sun has the story. >> well, it was somber inside of the courtroom today after the verdict was read jussie smollett sat quietly with his hands folded, jussie smollett charged with 6 counts of disorderly conduct found guilty on 5 of those counts tonight. >> 12 jurors reached a verdict after more than 9 hours of deliberation. mister smollett would not have lost this case as he did today.

>> and that's the jury found that he lied to them during the trial. the empire actor taking the stand in his own defense maintaining that he was the victim of a racist and homophobic attack in chicago nearly 3 years ago, smollett told police he was targeted by men who yelled slurs at him, punched him and put a rope around his neck. police say they reviewed hundreds of hours of video surveillance but no camera captured the incident. this jury work so hard. >> and for mister smollett to get up and running them and life for hours and hours and hours. really compound it. his misconduct as a counter to smollett's claims. 2 brothers also taking the stand. >> testifying that smollett orchestrated the whole thing for publicity and paid them $3500 to carry out the attack. smollett's attorneys says just see is disappointed with the jury's decision and plans to appeal. we're going to come
