( darya ) our top story this morning. after weeks of searching ... police make an arrest in connection to a brutal beating of an elderly woman in san francisco. this sketch is the only image police have released of the 18-year-old suspect ... keonte gathron. police believe he attacked the 88-year-old woman near a visitacion valley playground on january 8th. the 88-year-old victim remains in critical condition at san francisco general.

the assault has raised safety concerns in the victim's san francisco neighborhood. < we're gonna be fighting to keep our community safe and we need to look out for our seniors our young people and work together.. >( darya ) san francisco supervisors are working on getting a police substation with bilingual officers and equiping the visitacion valley area with surveillance cameras. ( darya ) a bizzare case on the peninsula. police say a woman broke into a home and live streamed her confrontation with the victim on social media. here is a picture of the burglary suspect ... 26-year-old akilah hasan. police say she broke into a home in woodside yesterday afternoon. once inside she went to the homeowner ... took the victim's cellphone and used to verbally rant during a live stream. during the stream ... officials say hasan stripped down to her underwear and walked to the backyard of the home. the victim locked her outside ... and

called police. hasan was booked into the santa clara county jail. ( james ) on the peninsula... a 22-year-old sacramento resident has been arrested on suspcion of stealing items from unlocked cars in woodside. san mateo police say this woman ... jamie cordero ... was found inside a person's car after they received reports of a woman breaking into a car in the 41-hundred block of jefferson avenue. police say during their investigation they found cordera has stolen items from a number of locked cars. she was booked into the san mateo county jail. ( james ) in the east bay... police in concord are looking for a man they say robbed a cricket wireless store. this happened sunday on the 1800 block of mounument boulevard near i-680 north. investigators say the robber took out a hand gun and demanded money from the cashier. he ran off with an undetermined amount of money. officers say no one was hurt. ( darya ) in the south bay... two people were hospitalized and three others

were injured in a three-car crash in san jose. the accident happened yesterday afternoon at the intersection of aborn road and whitesand drive. and whitesand drive. police say a mercedes-benz s-u-v was trying to make a left turn when it collided with both a nissan and a honda. the s-u-v ended up on its side and two passengers had to be rescued by san jose fire crews. the two victims were transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. ( darya ) the american red cross is helping a cross is helping a family of five find a new place to stay after their home caught fire. here is video of the fire early sunday morning. it broke out at a two story home in the 100 block of harbor road. that's in the hunters point neighborhood. it was contained in less than 30 minutes ... and thankfully nobody was hurt. the cause is under ( darya ) six people in santa cruz are displaced after

a two-story house caught fire over the weekend. the fire at 120 mcmillian drive happened saturday night. fire crews say the second floor of the home was on fire ... and that it sustained major damage. the cause of the fire is still under investigation .. but officials do not believe it is suspicous. (james) a big story this morning ... the government shutdown enters its 31st day ... and president trump's plan to end it fell flat among among democrats in washington.john lorince has the latest. president trump tweeting a statement sunday night to the hundreds of thousands of federal workers who aren't getting paid during the shutdown.....calling them "great patriots."this coming one day after he laid out a proposal aimed at ending the stand-off.president trump/no font needed"this is a common sense compromise both parties should embrace."he's offering three-years of extended protection for some dreamers and for immigrants covered by temporary protected status to stay in the u-s.in exchange

bridge less then 30 min from 880 to 101. morning out of the east bay. teachers in oakland will vote next week ... on calling for an official strike. the vote will take place over four days, starting january 29th. it comes after hundreds of teachers demonstrated in front of the district office in a sick-out on friday. many of them chanted and held signs demanding higher wages and smaller classrooms. kron 4's gayle ong has more. a much calmer gathering

inmate is the first person in california to be released under a new state law. the "re-sentencing" is a result of senate bill 14-37. it limits who can be convicted of murder, to those who actually commit the murder. adnan kahn is a free man after serving 15 years in san quentin prison.. thanks to the new law, khan had a felony murder conviction connected to a robbery overturned.. khan was facing 25 to life for his role in the 2003 stabbing death of a pot dealer in antioch. it is believed there are at least 800 inmates in california prisons who are eligible to have their sentences reduced. ( james ) in the east bay ... police say a trio of people wanted in connection with a home invasion in piedmont ... may be linked to other crimes. here is surveillance video of the home invasion. police say the teenagers broke into the home on january 12th ... and one of them was armed with a gun. they hurt a child at the front

leandro. 20-year-old caleb smith and 19-year-old maurice griffin both of oakland are now behind bars. police tell us, smith was carrying a backpack that appeared to contain items missing from a nearby vehicle. and that, griffin had a window punch tool used to break windows. the two are being linked to at least 5 car burlgaries. some of those happened near 148th and western avenues in san leandro. ( darya ) to the south bay now ... where police are investigating a deadly shooting in east san jose. investigators say a woman was shot and killed in a home near clyda drive saturday night. that's near the intersection of dobern and jackson. police are still looking for a suspect and a motive for the shooting. ( darya ) a target employee in the north bay is recovering after being punched in the face by a shoplifter. it happened friday night at the petaluma store near highway 101. police have released these surveillance images of the man they are looking for. they tell us

that the man tried to leave the store with stolen items hidden in his pants. when an employee tried to detain him, the man dropped the merchandise and punched the empoyee. that worker suffered a minor injury but is okay. ( james ) as the government shutdown enters day 31 ... the senate's top democrat is predicting the president's proposal to break the shutdown stalemate won't pass the senate. senate minority leader chuck schumer said that he thinks democrats will block the measure to give the president $5-point-7 billion for the border wall. the proposal would also extend temporary protections for some young people brought to the u.s. illegally as children and immigrants who fled disaster zones. majority leader mitch mcconnell is set to bring trump's proposal to the senate floor for a vote on tuesday. senator schumer also pushed legislation that would protect government workers who can't pay their bills because of the government shutdown.

says it will close its final shelter for victims of the camp fire at the end of this month. roughly 600 people are still staying at the silver dollar fairgrounds. it's the last red cross shelter from the camp fire and their temporary contract with the fairgrounds expires january 31st. local homeless shelters are offering up beds for fire evacuees but there are not enough available to take in everyone from the red cross shelter. the red cross says the shelter was always meant to be a temporary solution.
