are following this morning... several fires burning across the state. first here in the bay area... we have the marsh fire burning in contra costa county. crews have stopped that fire from spreading but evacuations are still in effect. there is also the ferguson fire near yosemite and the cranston fire in riverside county. but this morning the biggest concern is the carr fire burning near redding. ( james ) we have just got new numbers on the carr fire and it has nearly doubled in size overnight. this is the latest video from overnight showing the destruction. this morning firefighters are struggling to get a handle on this fire... containment is still very low. kron 4's sara stinson is joining us in studio with the latest. ( sara ) we just confirmed the carr fire has burned almost 45-thousand acres and since the wildfire doubled in size it is now only three percent contained.take a look

at the video...it's burning out of control this morning in shasta county- threatening the lives of thousands of people. and - we've learned a man has been killed on the fire lines - he was a contracted bulldozer operator...crews found his body late last night. at least three other firefighters are recovering from burn injuries right now. cal fire's last report shows 15 structures have been destroyed and nearly five hundred are threatened, but since the over night growth that number is expected to climb into the thousands. a cal fire spokesperson says the carr fire is taking down anything in it's path.governor jerry brown has issued a state of emergency for the carr fire. take a look at a map of the carr fire...you can see just how close it is to the city of redding...as it tripled in size just hours ago. the city has a population of 92-thousand people, but we don't have an exact number of how many people have been forced to evacuate just yet.

a scary situation for everyone who lives in the area even a local t-v station had to get off the air to evacuate to safety.

( will ) evacuation orders are still in place for the marsh fire for marsh creek road between gill drive and morgan territory road. the fire is now 75- percent contained.firefighters spent much of the day mopping up from the fire. strong winds propelled the fire along marsh creek road... engulfing dry grass and brush... firefighters say, there is now a permineter around the fire .. but going forward, more work must still be done before all homeowners can return. roadblocks remain in effect for those along marsh creek

( terisa ) in mariposa county... thousands of homes and yosemite national park are now in danger... after the ferguson fire changed direction. the fire has grown to more than 44- thousand acres.. and now people living in the area say they feel uneasy. one firefighter has died and seven others have been injured on the job. forest officials say high temperatures are making it challenging for crews... as they have to take special precautions to stay safe. this morning... the fire is 27-percent contained. has also declared a state of emergency for riverside county as the cranston now threatens several communities east of los angeles. so far... 75- hundred acres have burned... and the fire is only 3-percent contained. officers say this fire was one of five fires intentially set. on wednesday... authorities arrested brandon mcglover. ( james ) breaking news from overnight... in the south bay... a c-h-p officer is injured while on duty. it happened around 3:45 this morning on clayton road just east of the san jose city limits. when officers arrived on scene the found a truck towing a smaller electric cart. when officers approached the driver

of the truck... the truck sped away. and the cart that was being towed got left behind... rolled down hill and hit the officer in the leg. that officer is expceted to be okay but the c-h-p is still looking for the driver of the truck this morning. ( james ) new this morning... in the east bay... jurors are now deliberating the fate of a man accused of shooting 2 people who were inside a car. this is video of sadel wilkes being arrested in oakland last october. the shooting happening last september at the industrial parkway onramp to 880 in hayward. witnesses say wilkes walked up to a car stopped at a light... and started shooting. the bullets missed the victims but they still suffered some injuries wilkes is facing multiple charges -- including attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon. ( james ) mountain view police have arrested a woman accused of trying to kidnap a toddler. investigators say schauntel gomez went up to a woman while wearing a mask and tried to take that woman's grandchild. she hit the grandmother in the head and started threatening the child's mother. gomez then gave up and took off without

the child. police arrested gomez for attempted kidnapping, criminal threats, battery and possession of drug paraphernalia. ( terisa ) in the east bay... the driver responsible for killing a cyclist in crockett has turned herself in to police. the victim... christopher bunag.. was riding his bike along san pablo avenue on tuesday when he was hit. police say kylie derksen did not stop and bunag died at the scene. she is being charged with felony vehicular manslaughter and suspicion of felony hit and run. but bunag's sister still has questions. ( terisa ) bunag's family says he

was a seasoned rider. he was the vice president of the hercules cycling club... and always wore protective gear. derksen is now being held on 100-thousand dollars bail. ( james ) on the peninsula... police in san bruno will soon carry narcan. narcan kits will be issued to all officers within the next few weeks... once they complete training. the drug reverses the effects of an overdose caused by opioids... including synthetic fentanyl. it can be administered intravenously or injected into muscle. it can also be used as a nasal spray. the use of narcan by officers has become more widespread as opioid addiction becomes more common. ( james ) breaking overnight... north korea has handed over the remains of soldiers killed during the korean war. a u-s plane flew the remains to osan air base in south korea -- where service members were waiting to honor the fallen heroes. 55 cases were brought off one by one. it's a

ceremony decades in the making -- the soldiers were killed in the early 1950s. the exact number of remains in the cases is unknown -- as is the number of american troops. north korean leader kim jong un agreed to return the remains during his summit with president trump last month. ( james ) police are investigating a series of armed robberies that happened in an east bay bart station parking lot. a man robbed two people... one at gunpoint at the fruitvavle bart station wednesday morning. four other cars were also burglarized. one woman notifed a station agent after she was walking inside the garage that same morning.. and a car pulled up to her. the recent spike in crime is frightening commuters who take bart every day to work.

keep an eye out for everything that's going on so there's always small things that are happening but hopefully bart police and other security measure have more in place so that more incidents like this doesn't happen in the future."> ( james ) right now police are looking through surveillance cameras to try to identify the robber. ( james ) c-h-p in napa have arrested a man for child pornography and sexual exploitation of a child. the suspect... kenyatta norwood... was pulled over by police for speeding on highway 29. the officers say norwood.. who is a parolee... was driving a stolen car. during a search... officers found digital media depicting child pornography and molestation. the children depicted in the pornographic acts were later rescued by c-h-p. ( terisa ) police are investigating a shooting threat.. made at a veterans affairs campus in palo alto. it happened on miranda avenue near page mill road. police responded to reports of an active shooter around earlier thursday morning.

officials say, they swept the campus but did ánot find anything. a spokesperson says the campus resumed regular activities an hour later. police say th do not know who made the threat but take them very seriously. ( terisa ) also in the east bay... police in fremont say they have arrested a man responsible for burglarizing several cars. fremont police arrested armani phillips. this all started back on july 9th... police responded to the parking lot of city sports club along farwell place. they say multiple cars had been burglarized there. the suspect took a wallet, bank cards and a laptop from at least one car. police used license plate readers to track a suspicious car in the area. that car- police say belonged to phillips. ( terisa ) police in benicia arrest a man with the help of a c-h-p air plane... after he's seen shooting a rifle in the benicia state recreation area. these are pictures from that plane.

the c-h-p air plane found the shooter and two other men and directed police to their location. all three men were detained but only the shooter was arrested. ( james ) national news... michael cohen -- president trump's former attorney -- now claims trump knew in advance about his son's meeting at trump tower back in 2016... before the election. donald trump junior met with russians who were expected to offer the campaign dirt on hillary clinton. cohen says he's willing to share that with special counsel robert mueller, the sources said. cohen's claim contradict repeated denials by mister trump and trump junior. president trump's attorney -- rudy giuliani -- says cohen is a liar. ( james ) with many fires raging across the state.. fire officials want people to start protecting their homes now instead of waiting for when it could be too late. according to officials... fires are normally a problem

in august and september but this year they have been dealing with fires since april. fire marshall robert marshall says its not too late or too early to prepare for a fire. he says homes should have a 30-foot defensible space.. where all the brush and dead grass is clear. it's also recommended to clean the gutters consistenly and make sure trees are not touching homes. marshall says the biggest plan you should have prepared is your evacuation.

( james ) a big story this morning... the search for a missing university of iowa student... who is from oakland... has led authorities to a hog farm. authorities spent hours at the farm. they are treating this as a criminal case and they have been since the beginning. mollie tibbetts has been missing for more than a week. her brother is the last family member to see her alive. he says he dropped her off at her boyfriend's house last wednesday. ( terisa ) a parking lot in an east bay marina is becoming a popular spot for illegal sideshows. now people who live there are concerned that someone is going to get hurt. this is video of one of those sideshows at mulford point in the san leandro marina. a man who lives at the marina shot this video from his boat. he says illegal sideshows in this parking lot have been a problem for as long as he can remember.

groups of up to a hundred people and maybe fifty cars, going on for a half an hour un- interrupted at a time. the only solution to slowing down sideshow action is arrest and confiscation of the vehicle">( terisa ) police say they do patrol the area frequently to try to stop the sideshows and prevent anybody from getting hurt. ( terisa ) san francisco mayor london breed took an impromptu tour of one of the grittiest parts of the city. the mayor says she wanted to see what people in these areas experience every day. the mayor talked to the director of the "fix it" program about the problems that exist south of market... and what's being done to correct them. she walked several blocks around 6th street and mission to get a first hand look at the grime on the streets -- homelessness -- and the hypodermic needles that litter the ground.

about cleaning it up it's also about changing behavior.">( terisa ) the mayor is proposing safe injection sites to get needles and addicts off the streets while also giving them a place where they can ask for help getting clean. she's hoping to make safe injection sites a reality by the end of the year. ( james ) imagine being woken up by a stranger asking for your wifi. a couple in palo alto lled the police when a teenager broke into their house and then asked for their wifi password. police say the couple was asleep in their room when a masked teen woke them up. the male victim then shoved the suspect out of the house no one is injured. police arrested the boy on suspicion of felony residential burglary, prowling and providing false information to an officer. he is being held in santa clara county juvenile hall. ( james ) two men are behind bars in connection with a burglary at a palo alto coin store. it happened early saturday morning at the coin broker on el camino real.

the business was closed at the time. once at the scene police spotted four men... who immediately ran as soon as they saw the officers. but authorities were able to catch and arrest two of the suspects -- jamal deshawn willie and jamel kenneth walker . police are still searching for the two other men. ( james ) in the east bay... more students are graduating high school on time. that is according to the california department of education. according to state officials the oakland unified school district saw their graduation rate increase by nearly 5%. in 2017 the district had a graduation rate of more than 70%. district officlas say not only are more students graduating on time but fewer students are dropping out as well. 101 ( terisa ) also in the east bay... police in fremont say they have arrested a man responsible for burglarizing several cars. fremont police arrested armani phillips. this all started back on july 9th... police responded to the parking lot of city sports club along farwell place. they say multiple cars had been burglarized there. the suspect took a wallet, bank cards and a laptop from at least one car. police used license plate readers to track a suspicious car in the area. that car- police say belonged to phillips. ( james ) just in to the kron 4 news room... two people are dead and two others injured after an overnight shooting in oakland. it happened just after 11:00 last night on the 24-hundred block of 73rd avenue. when officers arrived on scene they found 4 people suffering from gunshot wounds. two of them died. the other two are in the hospital. there is no word on their condition this morning. police are still looking for the shooter. ( james ) we continue to follow breaking news this morning... the carr fire -- burning in shasta county -- is forcing thousands of people to flee for their lives. ( terisa ) 2 firefighters are now dead. kron 4's sara stinson joins us live in studio with the latest. sara... ( sara ) that's right we have just learned the devastating news that a second firefighter has died fighting the carr fire - all we know is that he or she was a redding firefighter working to save their own community. the first crew member to die in this fire was found just last night- he was a private

contractor and a dozer operator. at least three firefighters are injured.this fire is threatening the lives of thousands of people in shasta county.take a look at the video of the flames...the carr fire has burned nearly 45-thousand acres and since the wildfire doubled in size it is now only three percent contained. cal fire has just confirmed 65 structures have been destroyed, 55 have been damaged and almost five thousand homes are threatened right now.governor jerry brown issued a state of emergency for the carr fire. here is a map of the area - you can see just how close it is to the city of redding. it started to burn west of redding on monday and grew in size closer to redding within the last 24 hours. a scary situation as dozens of neighborhoods have evacuated, the city has a population of 92-thousand people, but we don't have an exact number of how many people have been

( james ) with many fires raging across the state.. fire officials want people to start protecting their homes now instead of waiting for when it could be too late. according to officials... fires are normally a problem in august and september but this year they have been dealing with fires since april. fire marshall robert marshall says its not too late or too early to prepare for a fire. he says homes should have a 30-foot defensible space.. where all the brush and dead grass is clear. it's also recommended to clean the gutters consistenly and make sure trees are not touching homes. marshall says the biggest plan you should have prepared is your evacuation.

( james ) c-h-p in napa have arrested a man for child pornography and sexual exploitation of a child. the suspect... kenyatta norwood... was pulled over by police for speeding on highway 29. the officers say norwood.. who is a parolee... was driving a stolen car. during a search... officers found digital media depicting child pornography and molestation. the children depicted in the pornographic acts were later rescued by c-h-p. ( james ) also in the east bay... police in fremont say they have arrested a man responsible for burglarizing several cars. fremont police arrested armani phillips. this all started back on july 9th... police responded to the parking lot of city sports club along farwell place. they say multiple cars had been burglarized there. the suspect took a wallet, bank cards and a laptop from at least one car. police used license plate readers to track a suspicious car in the area. that car- police say belonged to phillips. benicia arrest a man with the help of a c-h-p air plane... after he's seen shooting a rifle in the benicia state recreation area. these are pictures from that plane. the c-h-p air plane found the shooter and two other men and directed police to their location. all three men were detained but only the shooter was arrested. ( terisa ) mountain view police have arrested a woman accused of trying to kidnap a toddler. investigators say schauntel gomez went up to a woman while wearing a mask and tried to take that woman's grandchild. she hit the grandmother in the head and started threatening the child's mother. gomez then gave up and took off without the child. police arrested gomez for attempted kidnapping, criminal threats, battery and possession of drug paraphernalia. ( james ) in the east bay... the driver police say responsible in the fatal hit and run of a cyclist in crockett has turned herself in to police. the victim... christopher bunag.. was riding his bike along san pablo avenue on tuesday when he was

hit. police say kylie derksen did not stop and bunag died at the scene. she is being charged with felony vehicular manslaughter and suspicion of felony hit and run. but bunag's sister still has questions. toll to 101min from the less than 20 bridge drive richmond bridge drive less than 20 min from the toll to 101 ( james ) breaking news this morning... the carr fire -- burning in shasta county -- has turned deadly.( terisa ) we have just learned in the last hour that another firefighter has died. kron 4's sara stinson joins us live in studio with the latest. sara... ( sara ) two people have died while fighting the carr fire. we now have new information about the firefighters injured in the fire -- this one hits close to home -- three firefighters from marin county are being treated for burns. 37-year-old scott pederson, 34 year old tyler barnes and brian cardoza were assigned to structure defense when they all got caught in a sudden burst of flames. the first crew member to die in this fire was found just last night- he was

a private contractor and a dozer operator. the second firefighter to die fighting the carr fire was a redding firefighter. the carr fire has burned nearly 45-thousand acres and since the wildfire doubled in size it is now only three percent contained. cal fire has just confirmed 65 structures have been destroyed, 55 have been damaged and almost five thousand homes are threatened right now. take a look at this map - you can see the 45 square mile fire the first sparked monday in shasta county. it's been burning just west of redding, but over night it grew to the outskirts of the city, a city with a population of 92-thousand people. we don't have an exact number of how many of those people have been forced to evacuate just yet, but we do know it's in the thousands. we are now joined by scott kenney with cal fire. scott thanks for joining us...

this year they have been dealing with fires since april. fire marshall robert marshall says its not too late or too early to prepare for a fire. he says homes should have a 30-foot defensible space.. where all the brush and dead grass is clear. it's also recommended to clean the gutters consistenly and make sure trees are not touching homes. marshall says the biggest plan you should have prepared is your evacuation.

mayor london breed took another impromptu tour of several blocks around 6th and mission to see what the streets look like. kron 4's maureen kelly talked to the mayor about what she hopes to accomplish with these visits. we are going to continue walking straight thru the allyes which continue to be a problem.mayor london breed walked with the director of the fix it program about the problems that exist south of market....and what's being done to correct them. their power washed ad hoc basis when we get a 311 call that's what we need to change the pair, along with a few of her staff and some members of the media got a first hand look at grime on the streets, homelesses, and the evidence of hypodermic needles that litter the ground. while there were some signs of people working to clean up....the mayor felt

like more could be done.i've seen maybe four people five people clean up i'm not seeing any police officers i haven't seen anyone from the homeless out reach team i haven't seen anyone except a merchant doing power washing that's really my concern we know that is the hotspot for so many different things we know there are a lot of different places like this all over the city what i'd like to knowwhere people deployed in the middle of the day where they deployed in the middle of the night?recently she took a similar tour around the tenderloin. an aide says she plans to take similar unannounced strolls around trouble spots regularly i don't want want the departments to come and clean it up and make it look all nice i want to see it like it looks every day. i can't walk every block of this city every day but there is someone walking these blocks every day and they are seeing the dirt the feces and what is problematic in our city.after her stroll she said she plans to hire more people to clean the streets and help with homeless outreach...in addition to adding more resources...she said and she wants reallocate resources so that streets that are known problem areas to be steam cleaned daily...maureen kelly kron4 news.

a parking lot in an east bay marina is becoming a popular spot for illegal sideshows. now people who live there are concerned that someone is going to get hurt. this is video of one of those sideshows at mulford point in the san leandro marina. a man who lives at the marina shot this video from his boat. he says illegal sideshows in this parking lot have been a problem for as long as he can remember. police say they do patrol the area frequently to try to stop the sideshows and prevent anybody from getting hurt.
