red white and boom! america celebrates july-4th in spectacular fashion. as the west coast gets ready for its own fireworks and fun. how the bay area is getting in on the party. firefighters spend the holiday battling flames. but are gaining ground on the county fire. but residents remain on alert as mandatory evacuations are still in place and tense moments during a police standoff . after a protester climbs the statue of liberty in new york. (pam) turning now to our four zone forecast. lawrence karnow joins us now. (ken) lawrence what does our fireworks forecast look like? lawrence karnow: skies cleared for most of the bay area except for some lingering clouds at the coast. highs were will below normal and in the 70s inland, 60s and 70s around the bay and 50s and 60s at the coast. the fog and low clouds will return tonight for the fireworks. clouds will be along the coast and the bay by 9 tonight and be mostly clear inland. on the satellite you cans see the area of low pressure off the coast. that low will weaken and lift to the north starting tomorrow. high pressure will then begin to build out of the desert southwest. that will bring hot weather to the valleys with fog at the coast keeping things much cooler. highs tomorrow will be in the mid to upper 80s inland with 60s at the coast and 70s and 80s around the bay. subtropical moisture will move in on friday to bring partly cloudy skies and muggy weather. it will be hotter over the weekend with some temperatures in the valleys moving well into the 90s. cooler weather is expected in the middle of next week.

fire burning in yolo and napa counties. tonight firefighters are gaining more ground on the wildfire. it has now burned 86-thousand acres. and is 27 percent contained.(pam) however more than 15-hundred structures are threatened tonight. evacuation orders are in place. but some orders have been lifted including for the area east of the yolo napa county line to highway 16. and south of county road 53 to state highway 128(ken) kron-4's michelle kingston stopped by campgrounds today that are close to the fire zone.. campgrounds which are remaining open. (pam) dozens of protesters have been outside of ice headquarters in san francsico all day... for the third day. they are recognizing the fourth .. by holding what is being called a "block ice" block party ... they are calling for the end of the agency.(ken) kron '4 hermela aregawi is live in san francisco with that story.. hermela, are there still a lot of people out at this point? (hermela aregawi)still a sizeable crowd out here.some pople have brought tents and have been camping out here all day.. and some say they will be here throughout the night, making their voices heard. organizers are calling it a celebration of resistance.. dozens are camping out here... in front of ice's san francisco's headquarters.. rather than celerbating the

fourthof july elsewhere.today we are commemorating the indigenous communities that have been destroyed and subjected to genocide in that process, the african people that were extracted from the continent and enslaved. all of the immigrant communities that have been exploited and subjugated. and then currently the undocumented folks that are in detention and all of the violence that immigrant communities are currently experiencing.this has been for a really long time. the us finding different ways to break up black and brown families, totally decimating communities of people, that actually have been on this land since before the us was even a thing.protesters are calling for the end of the immigration and customs enforcement agency. they say ice was created in 2003 as a way of oppressing people of color.. adding that after 9/11 muslims were the target of the agency.. and now they see migrant detentions as of the agency's abuse.we are breaking

up hard-working families. we're stopping entire communities to find any mode of self-you know, you have all these telling brown and black folks to pick their bootstraps, while they're on our necks, you know. (hermela aregawi)that sort of sentiment is very common among protesters..but their presence here today is largely symbolic. because it is a holiday.. all federal agencies are closed including the there is a little police presence simply observing.. but so far no incidents to report. reporting live in san francisco, hermela aregawi, kron 4 news. (pam) relatives of the victims of the ghost ship warehouse fire .. are filing new lawsuits, claiming others are also responsible for the deaths of 36 people. the families are suing the city of oakland, the building's owner and p- g-and-e... alleging issues with the building's inspections and maintenance. derick almena and max harris... pleaded no contest to 36 counts of involuntary manslaughter earlier this week. almena could be sentenced to nine years in prison....

(ken) new at 8 what was supposed to be a summer vacation for a north carolina family... has turned into a story of uncertainty... (pam) as one mother fights to bring her sick child back home from canada. candace sweat has the details. last week, the colalillo family hit the road for a long drive from north carolina to canada. 19-year-old troy and his younger sister slept a good portion of the way. joan

colalillo/mother: "he slept most of the way that night, but we left at night so that's not unusual for my kids to fall asleep in the car. they always do that."but even after 12 hours, troy woke up feeling tired, still.joan colalillo/mother: "i said something's just not right, and i said we need to check and make sure before we go into another country.they stopped in new york at an urgent care. a doctor ran tests and sent them on their way with antibiotics.that same doctor called back after they'd already crossed into canada.joan colalillo/mother: "the doctor told us he needed to be hospitalized immediately and that he needed a blood transfusion immediately."since that call friday, the family has been in a canadian hospital, with news that doctors are almost certain troy has leukemia.a logistics nightmare -- racking up bills by the hour and confusion on the phone with the insurance company.joan colalillo/mother: "because its' out of the country, they cover only things they consider to be an emergency."all the while, doctors working to get the 19-year-old college student stable enough for travel back to the u.s in the backseat of his parents car -- if push comes to shove. joan colalillo/mother: "i just want him to be okay. that's all i want, that's all i'm praying for."

(pam) protesters took a stand on this independence day.... at liberty island. one of those involved climbed up to the base of the statute of liberty. the n-y-p-d showed up shortly afterward... and talked to the woman. they built a rope rescue system to get her down. the standoff lasted roughly four hours. during that time authorities had to evacuate the island. seven other protesters were arrested at the statue earlier in the day... after they hung a banner calling for abolishing ice. (ken) a fatal tragedy during an early fourth of july celebration in illinois. a tree branch fell as fireworks were going off at the rock island county courthouse tuesday night. according to witnesses, the branch fell without warning. some people who were sitting

underneath the tree were able to get out of the way, but others were trapped underneath. at least two people were killed and five others were hurt. a 21-year-old pregnant woman was among those injured. deputies say she delivered the baby after the incident and they're both in good health. (ken) for now, a group of 12 boys and their soccer coach will have to stay trapped in a cave. cave rescue expert: "we can't just give them food. they have to be reintroduced to food very carefully, because just providing them with food unto itself could kill them through something we call the re- feeding syndrome for people who have been without food for an extended period of time." their physical condition -- as a result of that lack of food -- makes an immediate rescue less likely.the boys and their coach are about one- and-a-quarter miles deep inside the cave, about half-a- mile below the surface. the way to the exit is through tight, flooded channels through water that is -- in some areas -- muddy and fast-moving.anmar mirza, cave rescue expert: "cave diving is an incredibly dangerous activity for people who are very experienced doing it, and now you're looking at taking ople who have no experience -- or very little experience -- with diving and putting them into a complete blackout situation, where they have to rely on the regulator and the tanks with them to breathe, and losing that regulator even for a minute or two could be fatal."crews could dig a new entrance -- but that, itself, is a months-long process that creates its own dangers.for now, the boys are safe. but it's the start of the rainy season in thailand, and heavy rains could cause water levels in rise.i'm andrew spencer, reporting still ahead at 8 a bear takes over happy hour

(pam) one california resident relaxing by his pool .... decided to wait it out inside, when he heard twigs snapping and saw a bear trying to enter his yard. (ken) he had to sit and watch as the uninvited guest drank his margarita and then headed to the hot tub and relaxed for a bit. (ken) the bear then decided to relax there... getting his face wet and doing a little grooming. neighbors spotted him later

that afternoon but said he didn't seem to be looking for trouble. joseph llorens/resident: "i think watching this bear, he was just trying to get out of here. i don't think he was trying to harm anyone or would've harmed anyone because he seemed to try to stay away from people." (ken) sheriff's officials confirm they did receive several calls of bears in the area last weekand. they did notify the department of fish and wildlife but they chose not to come out because they said those bears were just being bears. in sports -- the oakland a's are one of the hottest teams in baseball.. and the green and gold was looking for the third straight series win also -- what happened to the giants in colorado? the giants trying to avoid a three-game sweep kron-4's mark carpenter has the highlights and all the sports coming up next at 8 a seattle home's countdown clock that's turning heads. but not everyone is happy about its message.

(pam) new at 8 a house in a seattle neighborhood ... is getting attention for a sign posted over its garage. it shows a countdown to the end of the first term for donald trump's presidency. patranya bhoolsuwan reports.

(pam) one florida family got a personal fireworks show... inside their home this morning when lightning crashed through the ceiling. luckily, no one was seriously hurt, but a 12-year-boy sitting on the couch ... did get shocked. the lightning left holes in the living room... and in a child's bedroom. the homeowner says, he could smell the electrical smoke.. but there was no hole in the house's roof. the house did not burn down. (pam) for your health tonight. are you getting enough exercise? the centers for disease control and prevention say, most adults are not details in today's health minute with

reid binion. fewer than a quarter of american adults get enough exercise each week.that's according to the cdc's national center for health statistics.the department of health and human services recommends people between the ages of 18 and 64 get at least 150 minutes of moderate physical activity a week... or 75 minutes of vigorous activity, every week. they also recommend strength training at least twice a week but according to new data, just 23-percent of adults are meeting that goalbut even that number actually exceeds the "healthy people 2020" initiativeits goal is to get just over 20-percent of adults meeting the exercise guidelines by 2020.as for those who are meeting or exceeding that exercise goal the study shows a lot of it has to do with where they live. states with cold weather generally had a larger percentage of active adults warmer-counter partsin fact, states in the southeast like florida, georgia, and alabama failed healthy people 2020 goal

the baseball season has a way of bringing us stretches you just can't explain. last week, the giants...swept the diamondbacks and won 10 of their last 12-games. then, this week in colorado, the offense just completely disappears. --we go to colorado--you see the patriotism on full display. game was delayed for about 20- minutes due to lightning --tyler anderson on the mound for the rockies... all night, the 28-year-old was stifling this giants lineup. held em to two hits. racked up 9-punchouts through 8 innings of work. no runs allowed. -andy suarez...solid as well. 6-k's and 5 hits through 7, but this was his only mistake. bottom 7th, chris iannetta..solo home run that slips right past the foul pole. it was so close that officials had to take another look. call upheld.

his stomach. it's an annual 4th of july tradition. the nathan's famous hot dog eating contest at coney island. chestnut..going for his 11th championship...and he was chowing down. in 10- minutes, he wolfed down 74-hot dogs... a new world record which surpasses his old mark of 73. he wins 10-thousand dollars...far less than the 22,000 calories he consumed. he says the fans are key to keeping him chewing.
