involving an ambulance. and we are just learning that the patient who was being rushed to the hospital... has died. hello i'm vicki liviakis. (grant) and i'm grant lodes. 4 other people were injured in the crash,.... it happened in san lorenzo just after 11:00 a-m... at the intersection of hesperian and lewelling boulevards...right off of interstate 8-80. kron 4's terisa estacio is live at the scene-- terisa - what do we know about the woman who died? (estacio reporting) this violent collision happened here at the intersection of lewelling and hesparian in san lorenzo. you can see right over there - the ambulance involved in this crash is on its side that is how hard it was hit (estacio reporting) the ambulance - was heading to the hospital with a patient in the back and three others including an alameda county fire fighter paramedic when it entered this intersection. garner swartz, chp spokesperson. we know the ambulance was traveling southbound on hesparian, and the audio coming from lwelling when the collision occured. a chp spokesperson says the

driver of the audi, and four people in the ambulance all rushed to the hospital. the patient died, but authorities say it is unclear right now whether, the female died from the crash or due to the medical call. ambulance spokesperson. they were doing what they do, responding to 911 calls. four people in the ambulance, we can't go into detail obviously, they are employees and now patients. officer swartz, chp the collision is currently under investigation, we are checking with several witnesses and local businesses and looking for pictures and surveillance video from the area. california vehicle code states all drivers yield to emergency vehicles. the audi contained has an uber sticker up in the corner window - it is not clear where the driver was on the clock for uber at the time of the incident. (grant) elsewhere in the east bay this morning, a few precious moments were all that stood between a fremont resident and serious injury... as a van crashed into her home. the crash was at the intersection of barnard drive and harrisburg avenue in north fremont. kron four's rob fladeboe joins us now live from the crash scene (rob live) it turns out the van that crashed into the van that it turns out (rob live)(rob live) it turns out the van that crashed into this house on barnard drive was stolen. after failing to make a left from harrisburg onto barnard, it jumped the curb and plowed into this home where the lone occupant was getting ready for work. her hands still shaking and

wanting to remain anonymous this woman tells me she had just stepped into the backyard of her home here on barnard drive when she heard what sounded like an explosion coming from the garage. anonymous home owner "....i was screaming, i was panicked, it's not like anything i have ever experienced, it was just so dramatic...."stolen from a window washer just up the street, the van plowed through the closed garage doors, snapped a load-bearing wall and came to a stop in the living room. crews had to shore up a support beam to extract the van, which caused heavy damage to the home and it's contents. anonymous home owner "....a neighbor came over and he climbed over the car and he came inside and he was lookingfor people and he came and he found me in the backyard...."the home owner was not hurt while the female driver of the stolen van was

hospitalized. police said skid marks in the street indicate the vehicle was going very fast as it clipped another car before crashing into the home as it's resident was getting ready to leave. anonymous home owner "....i could have been in my garage, it missed me by a few minutes because i was getting ready for work, a few minutes earlier and it would have been a different outcome... thousands of u-c service workers are on strike. they want a large salary increase... and say they want to address racial and gender pay inequalities. kron4's will tran reports. more than 12 thousand

surgeries over the next three days just at ucsf's parnassus facility have been rescheduled because these workers are on strikekathryn lybarger/union president-ucsf is tone deaf. what good is a pay raise if you're outsourcing our jobs? the workers are mostly custodial and security guards and don't deal directly with patients but they are getting support from nurses and medical technicians who do forcing the hospital to reschedule most surgeries victor rodriguez/striking worker-san francisco is so expensive that we have to move farther and farther to have the money go morethe two sides have been negotiating for more than a year without a deal.the hospital was made aware of the strike and have called in replacement workers to help with emergency surgeries reporter-what about emergency surgeries, are they still going on?sheila antrum/coo-yes they are. in fact we have two emergency surgeries today including a liver transplant. that's what we do even with replacement workers ucsf says there is no way they could maintain its normal workload and surgery schedule. in fact it might be a fraction of what they normally do. they started reaching out to patients as early last friday

street against a red light when a vehicle heading west on lombard street on a green light struck him. the victim was taken to a hospital. the car apparently apparently fled the scene and a description was not immediately available. (vicki) another big story we are following tonight... an off-duty police officer is under fire -- for pulling his gun on a customer he áthoughtá was stealing a pack of mentos. the incident was caught on a convenience store surveillance camera... but the victim, jose arreola, isn't calling for the officer to be fired. jeff nguyen has more. security video clearly shows jose arreola paying for a roll of mentos at a buena park convenience store. a man later identified as a city police officer out of uniform walks in after arreola puts the candy in his pocket, prompting the officer to tell him, "hey, give that back. i'm a police officer."at that point, the officer pulls out a handgun from his sweater pocket, stunning arreola, who quickly puts the candy back on the counter. "oh, i paid for it!" exclaims arreola.the officer then tells arreola, "get you cash and leave," before arreola again protests, "i paid for it."the officer asks the clerk if he did, in fact, pay for the candy. after he asks the clerk the same question multiple times, the officer says, "my apologies. my apologies.""you know who i am, right?" the officer asks

the clerk. "yeah, i know," he responds.they were tense moments arreola feels were fueled by the officer's lack of respect for him."the hardest thing for me was, believe it or not, it wasn't really the gun," said arreola, pausing as he seems almost overcome by emotion. "it was his arrogance, his way of talking to me. he treated me like a piece of trash."the march 16 incident occurred while arreola's wife waited in their car. the couple filed a complaint against the city of buena park the following day, which led to the discovery of the video.we're not lying about what happened, 'cause that's how they've made us feel,"

(vicki) that was jeff nguyen reporting. the arreola's say the city of buena park would not tell them the name of the officer. but that they hope to figure out a settlement out of court. (grant) a warning if you drive a ford or mazda truck... the department of transportation said today that ford rangers and mazda b-series trucks from 2006 are under a "do not drive" warning. this comes as the agency is urging owners of cars with defective takata air bags to get repairs immediately. the specific mazda and ford models are being singled out because officials are concerned they are not being repaired quickly enough. chemicals used to inflate the air bags can deteriorate in some conditions, causing them to explode with too much force..

but officials are warning people to be careful....that's because snakes are also out looking for food.in the last two weeks, two people were bit by rattlesnakes. the first was on april 23 on mount tamalpais. a 79-year-old man was bit twice by a rattlesnake and had to be airlifted to the hospital. and then may 4th, a teenage girl was reportedly bitten by a baby rattlesnake in a clayton neighborhood, near mount diablo state park. some tips to keep yourself safe include:-hiking with a friend in case of an emergency. -looking at the ground ahead of you while hiking.-looking carefully around and under logs and rocks before sitting down.-avoid placing hands or feet in obscure areas.-keeping pets on designated trails away from snakes if they see one.if you encounter a rattlesnake, park officials say to leave it alone and allow it to cross if it is on a trail.reporting live in mount diablo state park, lydia pantazes kron4 n (vicki) it's the start of

wildfire awareness week... and cal fire wants you to be ready. 2017 was one of the worst fires seasons on record for the state. more than 9- thousand wildfires were reported... and more than 1- point-5 million acres burned. nearly 12-thousand structures were damaged or destroyed and 46 people died. the state spent more than 700-million battling wildfires last year. cal fire recommends homeowners make a defensible space... by clearing 100 feet around your home. (vicki) next at 5:30... we see it all the time in the bay area-- but now it's a nationwide law that all chain restaurants must have calorie counts on their menus. we'll explain the changes. (vicki) in the south bay... a 17-year-old boy is recovering tonight...after being robbed at gunpoint. it happened around 10:45 saturday night ...at the corner of lytton avenue and kipling street in palo alto. there police say the victim was talking on his cellphone...when three suspects approached him and demanded his phone. when the boy refused...one of the suspects pointed a gun at him. the victim was also punched in the face...and

suffered a small abrasion to the head. the three suspects jumped into a black sedan...driven by a fourth person...and are still at large. ... (grant) in the east bay. three men are behind bars tonight...accused of stealing power tools from a home depot...and leading police on a pursuit. the incident started at the home depot on crow canyon road in san ramon. once at the scene police say the suspects fled onto 680. however the pursuit was short lived...the suspects crashed after exiting the freeway on sycamore valley road. police arrested 26- year-old kamoni gaines...26-year-old daniel hooper... and 31-year-old john williams on suspicion of grand theft and conspiracy. (grant) a former contra costa deputy is now facing 4 felonies... after he's accused of having sex with female inmates. patrick morseman was arrested last month. he had been working at the west county detention facility. despite morseman's claims the sex was consensual... lawyers for one of the inmates says it was rape. morseman

faces 5 years in prison if convicted. (vicki) on the peninsula... two people are arrested after a shooting at a daly city bowling alley. this is cell phone video from the classic bowling center on king drive when the shooting happened last weekend. police arrested khejon nelson and taisia fauolo. officers say a fight started between two groups of people before a man was shot. the victim remains in critical condition. both suspects have been booked into jail. 5th primary election... by sending your mail-in ballots. and a change for voters on the peninsula-- in san mateo county áall registered voters will receive mail-in ballots this year... due to the california voter's choice act. this means people in san mateo county will not go to the polls this year. ballots returned by mail must be postmarked on or before election day... which is on june 5. if you're not registered to vote... you have until may 21st to do so. and a reminder... kron4 is your local election headquarters. (vicki) one billion dollars -- that's how much additional money some lawmakers want to spend on a number of healthcare-related proposals this year. one of the proposals is to spend hundreds of millions of dollars to expand medi-cal for some undocumented adults. capitol bureau reporter kody leibowitz reports. it's not quite universal coverage --but assembly democrats are beginning another major healthcare push. asm. phil ting (d-sf) "...much closer to universal healthcare here in california."democratic assemblymembers announced a $1

billion funding package for california's health care system.among what could change -- expanding medi-cal to cover 114-thousand undocumented immigrants -- between the age 19 and 25.also -- providing a refundable tax credit for people with income between 400 to 600 percent of the federal poverty level.this could open up refundable tax credits for a family of four making between $100,400 and $150,600. asm. jim wood (d-santa rosa) "we still have the goal of a unified publically financed healthcare system in california, but we need to take steps now."asm. david chiu (d-sf) "we still have three million who don't have access to healthcare. that's what we're trying to address with this billion dollar package."fresno assemblymember doctor joaquin arambula chairs the budget subcommittee on health and human services...his subcommittee passed the one billion dollar proposal. he spoke to us before that vote monday afternoon.asm. joaquin arambula (d-fresno) "we will be able to figure out how to open up the doors on our healthcare system to ensure that here is california is a human right ".the lawmakers says they are asking governor jerry brown for money from the 6-point-1 billion dollar surplus -- a potential hurdle as the governor's may budget revision is expected out soon. kl, kron4 news (grant) (grant) another big story we are

following tonight... u-s attorney general jeff sessions visits the mexico border in san diego today. he spoke at the border wall separating san diego and tijuana. in keeping with the trump administration's zero tolerance policy for illegal border crossings, sessions announced today that the department of homeland security will be referring immigrants for federal prosecution. he says this could cause some parents to be separated from their children. jeff sessions:"if you cross the border unlawfully, we will prosecute you. it's that simple. if you smuggle illegal aliens across our border, we will prosecute you. if smuggling a child, then we will prosecute you. and that child may be seperated from you as required by law." today-- ice officials denied that the trump administration has a blanket policy to separate families as a way to deter others from trying to enter the country illegally. (grant) a week ahead of the formal opening of the u-s embassy in jerusalem --- the city has posted the first signs officially pointing visitors to the facility's location. jerusalem's mayor posted a picture of himself near the new sign on his facebook page along with the caption, "this is not a dream -- it's reality!" written in hebrew, arabic and english, the signs direct visitors. the building will officially become the u-s embassy in israel on may 14th --- a move president trump promised during his campaign. the university of florida is apologizing... after several black students were pulled off the stage during a commencement ceremony. authorities say the students were celebrating their achievements by dancing - when an usher pulled them off stage. the university president acknowledged the staffer's "inappropriately aggressive" conduct. he assured parents and students that the hands-on removal process has been banned from all future ceremonies. "i hope draymond green gets shot in the face as soon as he leaves the arena... which looking at the citywide stats... is about 37%" polk later deleted the tweet and apologized, but the message was already out there. green is not alone in receiving these types of threats.. steve kerr admitted today that when he was working in the suns front office, he got some dangerous messages after making a trade. we'll hear kerr's remarks in a bit, but first green's classy response to the situation. (estacio reporting) we are learning that the patient in teh ambulance has died she was a 74 year old san leandro woman this whole accident shut down this intersection for more than 6 hours. (estacio reporting)this was such a violent collision the ambulance was knocked on its side the audi entire engine crushed up in the window of the white sedan, an uber sticker.. it is unclear right now, whether the driver was working for the ride sharing service at the time. the ambulance - was heading to the hospital with a patient in the back and three others including an alameda county fire fighter paramedic when it entered this intersection. garner swartz, chp spokesperson. we know the ambulance was traveling southbound on hesparian, and the audio coming from lwelling when the collision occured. a chp spokesperson says the driver of the audi, and four people in the ambulance all rushed to the hospital. the patient died, but authorities say it is unclear right now whether, the female died from the crash or due to the medical call. ambulance spokesperson. they were doing what they do, responding to 911 calls. four people in the ambulance, we can't go into

fremont rob fladeboe kron 4 news (pam)(pam) new tonight at 6... police in san jose say, they have made two arrests in an armed robbery and home invasion .... that took place sunday morning. 18-year old ezequiel flores.... has been booked into the santa clara county jail, on multiple counts , including burglary and brandishing a weapon. when confronted near the scene, police say, he did not comply with verbal commands to drop his gun. an officer shot at flores -- but did not hit him. he was later tracked down by another officer, and taken into custody, along with a second suspect, a 17- year old male. (pam) more than 12- thousand patients .... scheduled for surgery over the next three days... just at u-c-s-f's parnassus facility, will have to wait ... because workers are strike. workers say, they want a large salary increase ... and they want to hospital to address racial and gender pay inequalities. the workers are mostly custodial and security guards .. who do not deal directly with patients.

in mountain view -- a man accused of kidnapping a driver in a parking lot in san jose... is behing bars tonight. reports say, alberto ulloa -avila - a transient - hopped in the victim's car, and made threats of physical harm to the victim.... if he did not follow his

instructions. the san jose victim drove the suspect to a k-f-c restaurant on el camino real in mountain view, where he attempted to rob the driver, once he had parked. the suspect was arrested on charges of kidnapping, making criminal threats, vehicle theft, violating a protective order and driving on a suspended license. lawrence karnow: it was sunny and nice all the way to the coast today. temperatures were also warmer with some highs soaring into the 80s inland. tonight will start mostly clear but we will likely see some patchy fog near the coast and into the bay late. low pressure is headed toward the bay area, you can see it off the coast on the satellite image. it will fall apart as it approaches the coast but we will see a few clouds from it tomorrow and wednesday. temperatures tomorrow will once again move into the 80s inland with 50s and 60s at the coast. it will cool a little on wednesday. high pressure will begin to build in late on thursday and into the weekend. we could see some offshore winds and much warmer weather durning this time. it will be nice on mother's day but the temperatures will begin to cool with a little more fog and low clouds.
