effected. no one was injured. reggie k has more reggie has more. >> reporter: flames and water destroyed 9 apartments monday afternoon. 25 units were effected. the red cross provided diner. many are trying to figure out what to do next. officials say the red cross will help 7 people with fire assistance but that number could go up because the victims -- all of the victims haven't checked in yet. his unit was destroyed. he was asleep when the fire broke out. other are still in shock. >> feel so bad for my daughter. if she wasn't there i don't

know if i would have waken. >> what am i going to do? i have to rebuild. find a play to-- to live. >> reporter: officials say if only 7 need assistance then the red cross will give them a hotel voucher. if more need help they may turn the senior center into a shelter. most are staying with family and friends. firefighters put out a two- alarm fire that damaged a house in san francisco. the fire started in the back of this house. 155 hurst avenue. it spread to the attic. it took firefighters a half hour to get it under control. it is chilly out tonight plus it looks like rain and snow could be coming to our area. i know the temperatures are

up. police officers exchanging gunfire with a burglary suspect. forced a school to go into lock down. no one was injured. the suspect ran into a neighborhood, that prompted a three hour long police man hunt. charles clifford was there and has details. >> reporter: police responded to a report of a burglary in process. when they arrived on scene, offenses found a man armed. he pointed a gun that officers and fired. they returned fire. no one was injured in the exchange but the man fled into a nearby yard. police began suching for the suspect. they put roosevelt middle school on lock down. a helicopter spotted the suspect near 19th and 22. they took him into custody later. you can see the suspect here.

this search involved a large number of officers and they the to make sure 911 calls were being answered. >> what our command did today was called in officers who would maybe -- normally start their shifts a little bit later come in earlier and then we have officers in our building had them respond out here to assist. we had chp, sheriff's department. oakland schools. we had help from our neighboring agency. >> reporter: two weapons were recovered and they are trying to determine if there are more people involved in the case. charles clifford. a critical piece of video evidence will be admissible in the domestic violence trial against san francisco sheiff ross mirkarimi. these are pictures from the video. shows ross mirkarimi's wife ellana lopez holding up her arm and showing the bruise that was

caused by her husband. you see it there. you can see on her face she appears to be distraught. ross mirkarimi pleaded not guilty to domestic violence battery. child endangerment and dissuading a witness. related to a new year's eve incident in which he bruised his wife's arm. ross mirkarimi denied wrong doing and due in court on monday. shock and confusion for customers of a bank. the government has taken over the bank and shut it down for good. kate thompson reports, customers were not given any warning. the doors locked that home savings bank of america in walnut creak. >> no notice. they just closed the bank. former customers not even allowed inside. a spokesperson fielding questions from customers on the sidewalk. the bank was shut down and

...for you to unwrap. ♪ ho, ho, ho. green giant two students dead after a school shooting in ohio, three others injured. this is video of one of the victims. the teenager gunman opened fire in the cafeteria of chardon high school. he has been arrested. his name t.j. lane. he is a student at a neighbor school. students have been speaking out about what happened today. here is one who saw the tragedy for himself. >> my back was turned. i heard one shot. i turned, i saw another one.

pointed towards the victim. and then i went under the table. i heard two more. and coach -- i saw coach -- he was returning towards him. there was silence. no shots fired. i got up and i ran as fast as i could outside to the soccer field, across the street. i heard one more shot. >> officials say classes are canceled tomorrow. grieve counselors will be made available. plane made a rough but safe emergency landing in new jersey without front landing gear in place. no one was hurt. the airport was briefly closed because of the landing. then 15 minutes, 2-3 runways were back open. the plane was from atlanta. a official says the front landing gear malfunctioned. the belly called smoke.

pot use in colorado will be put to a vote. lawmakers decided to place the issue on the november ballot. leaving the legality up to voters. supporters submitted a petition with 170,000 signatures to colorado's secretary of state. that got it on the ballot. voters hit the polls negative 6. stay with us. more news after the break. bay area !
