this. renderings of the a's' new ballpark planned for las vegas right off the strip. but the question is this this morning. who's going to pay for the full bill to make this happen? nevada leaders green lit up to $380 million in public money to fund a portion of the stadium construction and that didn't make a lot of people in las vegas happy about it. in fact, the nevada teachers' union is taking that whole thing to court. saying stadium money should be instead spent on improving education. still, though, with the renderings and all the money moves it looks like the fix is in. the a's are hiring a company, in fact, to oversee ticket and suite sales already. and the planned new stadium is planned to be built where the old tropicana now stands and they have a demolition date for the drop. finish date for the new stadium looks to be in time for th 2028 season. but also another big question. until 2028 where will the a's play? we've been digging around on that. the lease with the coliseum endives this season. the team we understand has met with top bosses toic tend the lease but so far no deal out of that as well. we can tell you
6:14 am
another meeting on that note happens next week. we'll be watching. what happens? we're also hearing that sacramento and salt lake city are in serious contention as temporary homes and lots of details to work out. but if there's any silver lining, it's that oakland has reportedly also been in talks with major league baseball about bringing expansion team to town in return for giving the a's that lease extension. lots of things happening, gianna. >> yeah, and the whole move situation, reed, just really doesn't sit well with some fans knowing it could be the final year here. they are planning to send the a's a message after today's home opener during today's home opener by boycotting the game. >> yeah, our intent is not to go to any games whatsoever. i know, john fisher doesn't deserve our money. the a's' organization, the front office; doesn't deserve the love. >> fans will be packing the parking lot with a massive tailgate but they won't actually be going inside the coliseum for the game. parking

boycott against the home opener? a simple yes or no answer was will we were looking for and 80.4% say yes. overwhelmingly people support the boycott against the a's for the home opener and smaller pentage 19% say no. well, coming up in our 7:00 a.m. show on pix+ 44 cable 12, we're going to break open the a's' move conversation even more in our "people are talking" segment. but reed, there are a lot of fans who still love the team and have love for the team they grew -- supported since they've been growing up. >> a lovely heartbeat over there in the east bay. and it continues. you could say the community in love for the a's still blooms. shawn chitnis live this morning outside the oakland coliseum waiting for the sunlight. you have got a story, shawn, that we love. it's about a superfan whose love is downright rosy you could say. >> reporter: hey reed and gianna, good morning. yeah, he calls it town love. so while we are here in the parking lot where we know some of the drama is going to unfold with that boycott, we do want to

introduce you to this one fan who is remaining positive and if you just spent a few minutes with him, that energy is infectious and you may now just have a little bit of faith about the a's' future here. if wearing a suit and tie shows people you're serious about what you do, then todd schwenk wants fellow fans to know he's a pro when it comes to cheering on the oakland athletics. >> sometimes people forget the ushers are the hosts to our baseball party. >> reporter: and that means celebrating everyone who makes the game possible at the oakland coliseum. >> it's the little things in life that mean a lot. and we're so proud of our oakland a's' yellow and green. and right here, we get both our yellow and green. >> reporter: since the pandemic, todd has given out roses to the ushers at the first and last day the a's play at home. >> every time i hand out a flower, it's a -- blooming memory for life. and i really,

6:19 am
>> reporter: and so todd is going to give out eight dozen roses tonight at the home opener. he says if you receive a rose from him you can say schwenk you very much. there's a trend now and at other games for other teams people are also giving out roses. back to you. >> all right thank you so much. we're waiting for the sun to come up. and we will wait to see what happens out there in the parking lot as well. >> hopefully there will be some fans out there and whether they're in the parking lot or maybe actually go inside and watch the game they're going to have to pay attention to the weather because it's a little unsettled. hi paul. it is unsettled weather and even today the break between storms will still have some scattered showers out there. i don't think it's going to be so much rain that we would even have a rain delay. but we will have clouds out there in oakland for the guardians and a's. a's' home opener and hopefully several more home openers in oakland. we'll see but we're playing tonight and 56 degrees at 6:00 for pre-game. 8:00, will be about

the 2, 3rd inning at 54. jacket, yes. umbrella, you can't bring the umbrella into the stadium but not going to get rained on. we should be rain-free there. we'll be rain-free in san diego coming up the next two days. but we may have an issue getting baseball games in for the giants. traveling on saturday and sunday, it is going to be very soggy. working down there in southern california. it's been super wet since late january. and that trend continues in march. saturday and sunday, might be rainouts for the giants. please watch out for that. we're going to be talking about that rainfall moving in for us tomorrow. how much rain did we get last night? well, we can use our awesome maps and walk around and talk about how much rain fell. we'll start in los gatos which received 0.019 of rainfall. slightly more than mineta airport in san jose. pretty uniform rainfall totals and we don't often see this but with the weak system coming through, exactly what we have. about 0.2 of rain or slightly less in redwood city. half-moon bay. a little bit less than
6:21 am
that exactly 0.2 of rain in san francisco. oakland, a little bit less. concord a little bit less. and then the north bay, novato slightly more. the highest rainfall total from the bay area airports is napa. the airport there. we're looking at about 0.4 ofrainfall. that's what fell. you can or triple the numbers with the next storm coming in because it's going to be bigger and wetter. here's what we have on the radar. scattered showers out there you see just little dots of green like two, three minute shower as they move in from the ocean and otherwise pretty dry and a few of the showers move into the coast range south of you in pacifica and half-moon bay. not that much going on. decent amount of sunshine this morning in santa rosa and we'll go a bit cloudier this afternoon. not a banner day for warmth. mid to upper 60s, that's it temperature-wise. tomorrow, not just rain. it's going to be windy. higher elevations wind gusts of 45 miles per hour or stronger. so please watch out for that. not only wet tomorrow, it is going to be
6:22 am
windy tomorrow. here's the second storm. the first one is now spinning off the british columbia coastline. this one is tapping into more moisture and so we're going to get higher rainfall rates. it's also going to stick around for two days so you put the two things together, it's going to be a much wetter storm. really not that much rain last night. far more coming up on friday and saturday. but i think you will like the timing for the weekend it's going to get out of here quicker. throughout the day today, some clouds and some showers. not that wet. certainly playing the baseball game in oakland today. watch the clouds thicken overnight tonight. and then as we head toward tomorrow morning, here it comes and you can see more robust color profile there. the oranges, steady rainfall. red, down toward the santa cruz mountains. that's going to be some good rainfall rates of likely a quarter inch of rain or more. when you add everything up, some of the totals getting pretty impressive in the north bay. places like walnut creek and san francisco, about an inch of rainfall. 2, 3 inches of rain in portions of snow that county and lake county and so the potential is there for some
6:23 am
minor flooding on friday and saturday as this next storm, storm number two moves through. let's take a look at the extended forecast. because the good news is once that storm leaves saturday night, sunday now looks dry. so one day over the ex tended holiday weekend looks dry. scattered showers today. friday and saturday, wet and windy and even isolated thunderstorm. and now looks dry for easter sunday. and then the pattern changes. it's sunday, it's monday, it's tuesday, it's wednesday all looking dry with temperatures in the mid- to upper 60s. so we're going to get rid of the rain soon. but we have one more storm to go. that's your forecast. and let's see how the roads are doing. update on the traffic accident in the south bay this morning. it was a traffic alert but just checked in with chp all lanes now open. however north 101 just as you approach oakland road. now with the lanes being opened up that will be helpful. but still pretty slow and going to take some time for traffic to recover. there's still some activity there off to the right hand

how the guys perform but i think giants' fans can feel today this is the start of a real playoff possibility. >> exciting because i think we've been waiting for that for a minute. mark. for sure. okay. let's talk about the other team on the other side of the bay. it's really been a difficult time for a's' fans obviously. with the potential of them moving. this could be the last year at the coliseum. the team is also turning fans offer again and blocking the replays on x on social media. so really, should fans be supporting the team and they've got this boycott potentially happening at the home opener tonight? >> yeah. i mean, i would never tell a fan sort of how to fan. you know. i mean, if they want to boycott it, i get it. and if you are just -- you are going to still go to the game. go to the game and have a good time. this story has had so many twists and turns already and seemingly still will. so you know, i would just suggest keep up the fight because you don't know how this is going to go. the a's have made themselves

such a laughingstock. i think they are in vegas as well as they are in oakland. and sacramento and salt lake city and everything else that's been brought up. so keep up the fight. cause you just never know the way this is going to go. this is so different than when the giants almost moved years ago and the famous brandon crawford picture but there are days it felt like they were gone and then of course they were not. be my only suggestion toize a's fans. >> do they support the boycott? the results were -- you know, i don't know if they were very surprising. 80% said yes. they support the boycott. a much smaller percentage about 19% said no. and everyone is talking about this mark. actually going to talk more in depth when we head to the other channel, pix+ 44 cable 12 at 7:00. for "people are talking" to debate that even more. so let's switch gears and talk a little bit about basketball. the warriors showing a little life talking about the dubs in

the playoff race. the warriors right now are in tenth in the western conference. will they make the playoffs. >> they're just unlikely. the playoffs meaning you have to get out of the play in tournament. right now they look firmly entrenched in tenth if they can even hold on to toe that. the rockets are behind them and have won ten games in a row which is shocking. the warriors have to continue to hold them off. but if so and they get that at the point spot. you have to win a road game in l. a. and to nights later win another road game probably in sacramento or dallas. that's really hard to do. these are really good teams and even if they do that, then they would earn the eighth seed and probably get a chance to go play a seven game series against the champs. in the denver nuggets. so -- they got a little life and might get that tenth seed. but it's going to be a long shot to do anything beyond that. >> yeah. doesn't seem like a very easy path but i'm excited
6:46 am
we're there right? excited we're at least at this point. >> go fighting. >> the bracket. the sweet 16 gets under way today in the ncaa tournament for the men. mark. how are you doing? it's not so great. right now we're going to explain your picks here and let's get a look at them right now. boy, first of all, felt us what you did. >> there was no explaining my picks. you can't explain my picks. first of all, i had kentucky but yay me i didn't have them in the final game like my final game is still together. but everybody's final game is still together because all the ones and twos all made it to the sweet 16. listen, i have seen worse brackets and i know that's not a great motto. i have seen worse. but i have. but yeah. like -- i really like the way illinois is playing. tennessee is going to have a heck of a fight if they continue on you know. the two steams i don't have in here that people are talking about are purdue and also uconn. and the big boys have looked really good so far. so we should have some really big time toe to toe match-ups

against the beautiful sierra, that usually still means some scattered snow showers and we're seeing that this morning. heavy snow is likely on friday. heavy snow and wind friday and saturday. and then things calm down. starting on sunday and next week will be great for skiing. it's going to be awesome weather for skiing and let's zoom out and bring things back over to the bay area. not completely dry. you can look offshore here and very quickly see a few dots of green. some light showers will move in especially to our coastal koalation that is kind of fizzle out once they move inland but the shower chances still there. it's not just going to be rain starting tomorrow. it's going to be windy as well. the coast range, down towards santa cruz county. monterey county, and then our inland mountains in and around fremont and livermore and mount diablo, could see wind gusts of 45 miles per hour or stronger in those spots. so we do have a wind advisory in effect there. those were for the hills and let's talk about the cities. places like san francisco oakland and santa rosa, likely 30 or 40-mile-per-hour wind gusts tomorrow afternoon and tomorrow evening but you can see the color code here.

everywhere in orange tomorrow evening is going to be at a minimum breezy. clearly notice the rain and also going to notice the wind. storm number one is what you got last night. on average quarter to half inch of rainfall. not a ton. that's moving out in the wake of that. kind of like when a boat goes by and you are caught in the wake for a little bit. australia little bumpy. it's bumpy in the atmosphere right now. scattered showers out there. that moves out today. storm number two is two things that it's different than storm number one. it's bigger and slower it's going to take two days to get out of here, we're going to look at futurecast here and show you a day today with some scattered showers mainly this morning but plenty of breaks not only in the rain plenty of breaks in the clouds and what will be a partly sunny afternoon. clouds thicken overnight tonight right around this time tomorrow at the beginning of the morning commute when the rain returns. we will see that rain overspread all of northern california. and it's going to be pretty intense. we didn't see yellows or oranges or reds on the radar from the last storm. we will, for this one.

tuesday and wednesday look at all the rain you get tomorrow and saturday. the one change, the one day that's changed when i brought to this you yesterday, is sunday. easter sunday now looks dry. we're getting two days of rain but the storm should be gone by saturday night. that is your forecast. now a look at the roads with gianna. good to hear ha sunday might be okay if you want to get out and about and probably have light traffic conditions anyway on the weekend. and it is spring break for a lot of folks. so we're seeing some lighter travel conditions as well on the freeways. i'm starting off with a map just sort of giving you overview because we've really been focusing on this ride out of san jose which finally some much better news to report. we're seeing the speeds traveling through there clocking in pretty well. 40 miles per hour in some spots and 32 miles per hour in some spots and i'm talking about that ride northbound 101 as you head near oakland road. near 880. we are seeing that backup beyond that 280 and 680 connector because of an earlier crash but travel times are improving down to about 54 minutes. this is just an overview and obviously once you get in the car you will have the more specific travel times
