application providing a new opportunity to find love in the lgbtq community. we are keeping an eye on recovery efforts in maryland around the francis scott key bridge families waiting at water's edge today as crews search for the bodies of six construction workers who authorities believe died in the catastrophic collapse yesterday. this morning ntsb investigators went on board the cargo ship that hit the bridge and located its data recorder. crews say the recovery mission and cleanup will be a dangerous task to pull off . as they dive into the freezing cold water onshore. >> it is a very dangerous situation underwater with the rebels still settling. it is not a great spot for divers. it is incredibly blackwater. sediment gets kicked up and it is a significant current . >> a lot of us across the bay

area bridges over the past 24 hour have wondered if this has or could happen here. if you remember the old bay bridge it took a couple of hits in a six year span back in 2007 the "cosco busan" slammed into a bridge support tower , ripping the side of the ship that ended up spilling 52,000 gallons of oil into the bay. in 2013, an empty oil tanker caused minor damage, when hit a bridge tower in heavy fog. both times the bridge stood its ground. caltrans tells our wilson walker , that is by design. >> this is the most does mostly advanced bridge of are designed. the eastern span of the bay bridge. it is not just a better system -- >> reporter: he is talking about the first line of defense on the new bay bridge and that is the offender system that you see here and while this one is unique to the tower foundation of the eastern span there is something like this on every bridge in the bay area. >> some of the systems have completely different foundations. they never really

bay and close to san francisco and oakland. what we get today is the first storm. i want to contrast the images. san jose staying with sunshine for about 10:00. you are cloudy but through 6:00, rain free. south bay you are the last spot to get the rainfall. contrast that with what we expect in and around santa rosa where drips of rain may begin as soon as lunch time. it will be a light to moderate rain throughout the afternoon. with temperatures running cooler, only a high of 56 degrees. it really depends on where you are the farther north you are, the more rain you will get this afternoon. these are your highs today. upper 50s for the north bay where we expect more cloud cover and rain. 60 in san francisco. 62 degrees for oakland. 63, evening rainfall for comfort. fremont, 624. san jose, 7:00 before the rain begins with a high of 67 degrees. more on the second storm, coming up. all march we are celebrating women's history

month and an important part of the conversation is highlighting the contributions of people in the lgbtq community. one queer woman realized there was not a meaningful way for her to date online, so she decided to create an app for that. that is when she launched her. the her up was developed in san francisco and continues to grow. shawn chitnis with how the founder hopes the app and her story can play a part in women's history. >> reporter: for almost a decade the search for that special someone has taken robyn exton on a path of personal discovery and professional success. >> it has been incredible. it has been a journey and a labor of love. >> reporter: as a queer woman looking to meet new people she

tried dating the conventional way, but robyn found herself wanting to connect with others online. >> when i first started the app i just started kind of explore my sexuality about six months prior and i spent a lot of time in bars and nightclubs meeting people. bars and nightclubs are not the best place to have a conversation. >> reporter: the apps available at the time were mostly first-rate people and any options for the lgbtq community did not consider what users like robyn were looking for. >> they were built for gay men and they would make it pink and go this is great and this will work for lesbian's. it was a different experience and different type of product. >> reporter: robyn traded an app with the experience she had in mind. she said her is a sapphic dating app. it includes women as well as non-binary and transgender people. a key part of the user experience is offering more ways to be yourself . but providing pins that go beyond someone's sexual orientation or gender identity. it is one more way people can stand out and show their personality. which helps users to find others like them. >> i think now we really are like valued and appreciated for helping people express who they really are and finding other people like them.

>> reporter: her is in app led by a queer woman and led by a team mostly made up of lgbtq staff . robyn hopes the company is another example of why representation matters for her community, not only in tech but also the corporate world in general. and while the app tries to be inclusive of all age groups, robyn sees the potential for a major shift in dating with genz. a change that will greatly benefit her, with an increase in the number of people who identify as queer . >> we are a significant demographic that is growing hugely amongst younger people. telling our stories and showcasing the value of this community and its audience as well as the businesses that operate to serve this community is really powerful. rfk naming his vp pick for his independent run for the white house. what we know about nicole shanahan's ties to the bay area. and how the pair could skew the presidential election. it is wired wednesday and

the senior editor at cnet. let's start with instagram. its parent company meta said political content will be limited from accounts that you don't follow. we are seeing that happening now. apparently there is a way to disable that limitation. tell us about that. >> if you want to disable that limitation, all you have to do is open the instagram map, go to the settings menu, and you should see an option called content preferences. and from there they should be a toggle to turn off the restriction. this is something that is just rolling out and on by default but it seems pretty easy to disable , if you want to get rid of that limitation. >> we are already seeing people that we are not following. are those people paying for us to see those things? >> what is happening here is if

you do follow accounts that post political content, there will be no change at all. you will continue to see the content. what is happening now, in specific areas where instagram does surface a recommendation like the explorer tab and the real stab, you will not see the little legally oriented content, unless you follow those accounts. >> apple becoming more and more like android. rumors reporting that apple devices are adding the ability to freely arrange app icons on home screens. can you talk about what they are adding to the ios? >> ios 18 is expected to be apple's next major update for the iphone. we are expecting to hear about this in june at apple's worldwide developer conference and as you mentioned, this new report indicating that you can edit the home screen, seems to be a big deal . will use to the grid of app icons we have no forever but if this report turns out to be true, you can customize that more. the other big thing we are expecting with ios 18 is potentially apple's first

foray into generative a.i. and that has been a very big popular topic of discussion among the tech community this year. we have seen a lot of work from google and samsung and microsoft another tech giants in this area. wwdc which is apple's developer conference this june, we are expected to learn more about how apple is investing in that technology and how it might impact the iphone in the future. >> thank you so much for your in sight. the time when the rain will arrive in your backyard really depends on where you live , as is often the case with the storm coming in from the north. the north bay could be as early as the lunch hour. petaluma, earlier than that. but then the front will take it time and it may be four clock in the afternoon before it makes it to san francisco. 5:00 before it hits oakland. and concord and antioch and redwood city and also half moon bay. it is to keep going to the south, 6:00 for fremont.

and perhaps as late as 7:00 for gilroy and san jose and campbell. it will be a while before the rain makes it to the south bay. it is coming and once it gets here it will be here for a while. take a look at what we have going on. this is the first storm, which is impacting the pacific northwest and for northern california, stretching in our direction and rain moving from north to south today. as we roll through the morning, north bay some showers, 10:00 , 11:00, 12:00. scattered showers mode through 2:00 and the actual front gets here and it is a steady rainfall for the evening commute for the north bay and the i-80 corridor including all of our major bridges. this evening, the front pushes south a we see more yellows and even oranges popping up. heavy snow in the sierra. that is when all of us will be dealing with rainfall this evening. the front pushes to the south after midnight tonight. tomorrow it will be a mixture of sunshine and showers and a little bit of sunshine and some showers, back and forth. the second storm,

not just more rain, more wind. some of the numbers are getting high. san francisco, oakland, santa rosa, friday afternoon wind gusts of 30 to 40 miles per hour. the first wave of rain about a quarter of an inch of rain and throw in what we get on friday and saturday and by the time the holiday weekend wraps up some of us with one to two inches of rainfall. here is your seven-day outlook which is calling for really dry weather and really nice weather at the end of the extended forecast, next monday and tuesday. it will take a while to get there. wednesday , today, rain in the afternoon and the second storm gives us rain likely on friday and saturday. things begin to clear out on easter sunday. coming up, another sign things are getting more expensive. prices are going up at the dollar tree.
