in the face of heart break, we come together. we embrace one another and we come back stronger. an emotional maryland governor addressing the public in the wake of a catastrophic bridge collapse that happened in baltimore. that collapse sent people in several cars into dangerously cold water. good afternoon. i am ryan yamamoto. a massive search is underway for six people still missing after the container ship lost power and rammed into the francis scott key bridge. take a look. the ship struck one of the supports causing the structure to collapse like a

toy. it tumbled into the river in seconds and the crash happened overnight long before the busy commute. but there were people on the bridge when this happened. the six people unaccounted for are believed to be part of a construction crew that were repairing pot holes. two have been rescued. one was not injured and the other was taken to a local trauma center in very serious condition. governor moore says the ship's crew issued a may day before the crash. that allowed authorities to limit vehicle traffic on the span. a live look now at the francis scott key bridge. you see the container strip is still out there as authorities investigate what went wrong. ntsb is also at the scene. ryan hughes is following the latest developments from baltimore county. >> reporter: the maryland governor wes moore said the entire state is in shock. dive times remain in the river actively searching for survivors. behind me you see

the horrifying scene, bridge and road completely broken apart. video shows the moment a cargo ship plowed into the francis scott key bridge. the massive container ship lost propulsion before impact. >> the entire key bridge is in the harbor. >> we know there were individuals on the bridge at the time of the collapse working on the bridge. >> reporter: now the coastguard and other agencies are racing to find survivors. video shows multiple vehicles on the span. >> our response teams are doing everything in our power to rescue and recover victims of this collapse literally as we speak . >> reporter: the dolly left the cargo and they were notified that the ship lost propulsion and hitting the bridge was possible. >> they were able to close the

bridge to traffic before it was struck which undoubtedly saved lives. >> reporter: video shows most of the lights going out just before the accident. >> the steering system on a ship like this is hide roll clear powered. when you lose electrical power, you will lose the hydraulics. >> reporter: officials say the workers on the bridge were repairing pot holes. a facility has been set up with mental health professionals for family to deal with the tragedy. this crash appears to be an accident and there are no signs of a terrorist attack. the dive teams searching for survivors are using drones, sonar, radar, other technology hoping to find several people. >> the key bridge serves about 31,000 travelers every day. in the bay area our busiest bridge is the bay bridge with nearly 115,000 cars a day. 42,000

travel golden gate bridge and richmond san rafael is closest in comparison serving about 36,000 cars every day. you may wonder could it happen here? in 2013, an empty oil tanker caused minor damage when it struck the base of the old bay bridge. it rammed the tower while heading to sea after unloading cruel oil at the martinez refinery. in 2007, another container ship had a run in with the bay bridge spilling 52,000 gallons of fuel. crews spent months cleaning the damage and the company and pilots responsible paid $40.4 million in a settlement. we will continue to update you on kpix.com and cbs news app. to weather now, here is a live look downtown san jose. a cloudy tuesday. we are tracking some of the rain on the way.

our meteorologist is in for jessica with a look. temperatures are quite pleasant. we are looking at mid to upper 60s. you got down to 37 in petaluma. you will make it to 66 this afternoon. lower 60s for san francisco and pacifica, 64 oakland, concord, walnut creek, about 67. red wood city, 65. fremont and livermore are also in the mid 60s. you may not be as sunny in san jose but you will one of the warm spots. it is going to be a pleasant day. that's the last time we can say that for a while unless you like rain. some of you do. we are looking at clouds and drizzle. storm number one, the first one will be weaker. storm two will be stronger. the first storm will give us six to 12 inches of snow if not more in the sierra where a new winter storm

warning is in effect. these are rain chances not just for tomorrow. it's wednesday, thursday, friday, saturday. it's a prolonged rain event that will last several days. we'll talk about which day looks to be the wettest. that's uming up. supreme court is hearing arguments in an abortion case that can impact women across the country. demonstrators on both sides of the issue gathered outside the supreme court as justices heard arguments whether fda adequately considered safety when it expanded access to the so called abortion pill mifepristone. used with another drug mifepristone is the most common type of abortion nationwide. in 2016, fda extended the window women can take the pill from seven to ten weeks. during the pandemic, it said an in person doctor's visit was not needed allowing mail order pharmacies to ship the drug nationwide. critics

that are weird looking and are popping up all over this area. what exactly are they? >> interesting, all of them, wow. >> reporter: they've been sering at ocean beach for nearly two decades so you might think he's seen it all when it comes to marine life. this week he spotted something new and weird. >> i was surfing and happened to notice a bunch. i hope to figure out what it is, where they're coming from, and why. i haven't seen them before. >> reporter: these are known as by the wind sailers. we went to the california academy of sciences so they can explain what they are and what they're doing here. >> they are not jellyfish but they are relatives of jellyfish. >> reporter: they've been washing ashore along the california coast by the hundreds from point rays to

orange county. why? >> these guys live in the open ocean for most of their life cycle. they are at the mercy of the oceans. they have tiny sails on their body which they use to move around and migrate by the wind. when winds are blowing on shore like the spring and early summer, we see a lot of them washing on shore. >> reporter: the blue coloring comes from the food they eat and helps camouflage them in the water. the ones on the beach might not be so vibrant. >> they tend to lose the blue color and dry out. sometimes animals will eat them. they'll be eaten by birds and become part of the local ecosystem. >> reporter: as for humans, there is really nothing to worry about. but you should avoid touching them or letting your dogs get too close. dave says he won't touch but he will look. >> i saw a headline and i

music world. federal authorities raided two properties owned by sean diddy combs in connection with a possible sex trafficking investigation. it follows lawsuits accusing him of serious sexual misconduct. carter evans is in los angeles. >> reporter: these are homeland security agents raiding the los angeles and miami homes monday. >> what we see based on simultaneous raids is there are allegations of wrongdoing in multiple states. >> reporter: you can see them with guns drawn walking into one of his properties. these two men were led out of his california home in handcuffs. law enforcement sources confirm to cbs news the raids are part of a possible sex trafficking probe. >> the fact that the federal authorities executed the search warrants simultaneously indicate they don't want somebody in one residence calling and tipping off members of the other residences.

>> reporter: sean diddy combs, one of the most influential figures in hip hop has faced allegations of sexual assault in five lawsuits including one of his ex girlfriend cassandra ventura. last november she filed a federal lawsuit filled with details of alleged violence and abuse during their near decade long relationship. she's since reached a settlement and he denied any wrongdoing. last month his former music producer alleged. combs attorney called the allegations pure fiction. >> cbs news has reached to combs and his attorney regarding the latest incident but has not heard back. arnold schwarzenegger closer to being a real life terminator. he had surgery to get a pacemaker last week. he says he is a little bit more of
