a massive search-and-rescue operation now underway. good morning. i'm shanelle kaul in for anne-marie green. we start this hour with that disaster in baltimore-month-old. things are still preliminary, but we can now report a cargo ship hit the francis scott key bridge sending it into the water. it's more than 1 1/2 miles long and crosses the outer baltimore harbor. cbs's jarred hill is here with this late-breaking news. this video so dramatic. >> just looking at this, it's just crazy. this is nuts here. so this happened around 1:30 this morning baltimore time. baltimore city fire telling us the ship hit one of the columns on the key bridge, sending it collapsing into the river there. a tractor trailer was on the bridge when it collapsed, possibly other vehicles. the "associated press" is reporting multiple vehicling fell into the water.

we're told a diving and rescue team is searching for at least seven people to be believed in the water. that's as of an hour ago. no word on why the ship hit the bridge. the mayor says he's been in contact with the governor of maryland as well as everyone tries to figure out what happened here and save as many lives as possible. >> i know the focus is on the search-and-rescue operation, obviously the investigation still in its early stages. but do we have any sense of whether this was an accident or whether there's something spishsz here? >> we just don't know yet, chanel. >> lots more to learn. thanks for the information, we appreciate it. in some other news this hour, there are questions about why federal authorities raided two homes owned by entertainment mogul sean "diddy" combs. they descended on his estates. armed authorties descended on his estates 3,000 miles apart in los angeles and miami. this comes after months of multiple sexual misconduct

allegations against combs. cbs's carter evans has more. >> reporter: heavily armed federal agents raided hip-hop mogul sean "diddy" combs from homes in los angeles and miami. they pulled people from the homes in handcuffs. it's unclear whether combs was there. >> federal agents would execute search warrants simultaneously, making sure they don't want anybody calling people in miami or vice versa. >> reporter: law enforcement tells cbs news that the raid is part of a possible sex trafficking investigation. >> what we see here in the department of homeland security, leading a raid, is there may be some allegations that they're looking into of sex trafficking. >> reporter: last november, the three-time grammy winner was sued by his former girlfriend casandra ventura who gave graphic details in her civil suit against combs, claiming he subjected her to violence and

sexual abuse during her over decade-long relationship with him. he's denied wrongdoing. in recent months combs has been accused of sexual abuse in a at least four other cases including a lawsuit by his former music producer rodney jones. he claims for over a year combs sexually harassed, drugged, and threatened him. combs denied it and called him a liar. the raids have been confirming in both cities, but they did not explain the raid and would provide more information when it becomes available. diddy has denied any wrongdoing. carter evans, cbs news, los angeles. the supreme court is set to hear arguments in the case so called the abortion pill. abortion rights opponents want the high court to uphold a lower court's ruling, limiting access to the medication.

it would potentially limit mail order and shorten the time it could be used from the first ten weeks of pregnancy to seven weeks. a ruling is expected by the end of the month. donald trump's social app, truth social, will be trading on the stockmarket today. the first, his criminal trial stemming from hush money payments to adult film star stormy daniels is set for april 15th. the second, a new york appellate court slashing his almost half a billion dollar bond payment by less than half in his civil fraud case. he has ten days to pay it. cbs's robert costa has more. >> reporter: it was a last-minute lifeline for donald trump. the five-judge panel gave the former president ten additional days to come up with the monday, by thursday april 4th and lower

co-defenders still stands. >> this is a case that could have been brought 3 1/2 years ago. >> reporter: amid the news of the bond hearing, trump was in a manhattan courtroom learning that the criminal trial involving hush money payments to adult film star storm. daniels would begin the middle of next month. trump's lawyers argue the case should be delayed or dismissed, saying thousands of documents were improperly introduced earlier this monday. that was rejected by the judge saying you're accusing the prosecutorial department of fraud and trying to make me complicit in it and you don't have a case in sight. trump would be the first former president to be involved in a criminal trial. he vowed to try to delay the start of his criminal trial in mid-april, but the judge told trump's lawyers, we'll see you on april 15th. now to the growing rift between the u.s. and israel over the war against hamas. israeli prime minister benjamin

netanyahu abruptly canceled sending a high-level delegation to washington, d.c., this week, in protest of the u.n. security council calling for an immediate cease-fire. but the pentagon says defense secretary lloyd austin will meet with israeli's minister of defense today as planned to discuss ways to defeat hamas rather other than launching a ground invasion of the southern gaza city of rafah. cbs's ed o'keefe reports on the fallout from the white house. >> reporter: fresh strains in president biden's relationship with israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu. the israeli leader calling off a trip by two of his closest aides to washington after the u.s. allowed a cease-fire resolution to pass at the united nations, one that he said would hurt his military campaign. the resolution called for an end to the fighting but didn't tie it to the release of the hostages held by hamas, but u.s. officials insisted there's no shift in policy.

>> we've been very clear. we've been very consistent in our support for a cease-fire as part of a hostage deal. that's how the hostage deal is structured, and the resolution acknowledges the ongoing talks. >> reporter: the meetings with israeli officials were set to begin wednesday and personally requested by the president as concerns grow over possible casualties and famine in gaza. american officials were set to present alternatives to the ground invasion of rafah which israel argued must go forward to root out hamas. >> any major military operation in rafah would be a huge mistake. let me tell you something. i have studied the maps. there's nowhere for those folks to go. >> reporter: separate meetings between administration officials and israeli defense minister yoav gallant, a political rival of netanyahu, went forward as two situations continue at gaza

hospitals. >> they rejected a proposal that calls for the release of up to 800 palestinian prisoners in exchange for 40 hostages and a six-week cease-fire, saying it wants a full withdrawal of israeli troops from gaza. russian president vladimir putin says the gunman who killed at least 139 people at a concert hall near moscow were islamic extremists, but during a meeting yesterday with government officials, he repeated his accusation that ukraine could have played a role in friday's attack. ukraine denies that. over the weekend putin said the four attackers who were arrested were trying to escape to ukraine. i.s.i.s. has claimed responsibility for the attack. still ahead this morning, a reshuffling at boeing as the ceo steps down amid a safety crisis at the aerospace company. and later, shohei ohtani speaks out.

here's carissa lawson with today's "moneywatch." >> wall street's record-setting momentum slips into the red zone to start with a shortened trading with markets set to close on good it from. the dow fell 162 point, the nasdaq dropped 44 points, and the s&p shed 15 points. boeing's stock climbed in early trading mondayed on news that the ceo, dave calhoun, will step down at the end of the year in a major shakeup with the company's leadership. calhoun has been under intense pressure since a door plug blew off a brand-new alaska airlines jet in february. federal investigators have found issues with boeing's 737 production process, including the fact that the door panel's bolts were not reinstalled after repair work. boeing's support chair and head of airplanes are also leashing the company. the bird flu is spreading to dairy cows.
