from kpix, this is the late news with sara donchey, on cbs news bay area. >> hello, i am sara donchey, just when we thought we had made it to spring, we were already planning out our summer, darren is a here to put a damper on your weekend, the timing once again, darren is not great for people web plans outdoors. the weekend is the reason why we went into first alert status. we had widespread rain but tomorrow, the character of the rain is going to be different, we will have more isolated on and off again showers with the occasional thunderstorm mixed in. just take a look at what is going on right now. you can see the back line, that is the cold front and, so we still have a couple more hours to go on this, it doesn't clear until midnight but watch what happens on the future cast, the last of the showers will edge out of the south bay by the time we get

into the early hours on sunday, and then there's a break, there was a window of time while people are sleeping where it doesn't rain but if you skip ahead and use the long-range model, right about sunrise, showers will start to come back. on-again off-again, 8 to them. but watch them increase in number as we go through saturday afternoon. and by saturday evening, you will see a little bit of a complex show up, where we can see some great downpours. so, you will get brace of blue sky, it will be more time on saturday where you will not get rained on then when you are. but the possibility for one of these to come in the form of a brief thunderstorm with a downpour and some small hail, that is the reason we have a first alert status designation on this. for some for and sunday, it will give going on sunday. i will show you more on sunday coming up in the complete first alert forecast and by monday we will be done. in the meantime a quick look at the other side of the state, several were thinking we had people heading

44 cable 12. night and then on sunday, we still have the storm prediction center actually putting more of a focus down in southern california for the isolated thunderstorms but there are still stragglers here, which is why sunday is still a day to be aware of. and, for an isolated thunderstorms, that covers the rain aspect of this, and on the other side of the state, in the sierra, this is a significant winter storm, we looked at it in one way at the top of the newscast but just another way to visualize the winter storm severity index. and you can start it to areas of red, that is where the weather prediction center is calling is major in terms of the impact from this, so not looking at snowfall here, this is just a combination of all of the potential impacts, that the storm can have from today through sunday in the sierra, going right through a patch of red as does highway 50,

hazardous driving should be expected in that kind of scenario and there could even be temporary road closures and of course, if that doesn't paint a picture well enough all you have to do is look at how much snow is going to be following up there, two feet and up but and a half. and what is really as odd as it's going to sound, really nice to see, the snow levels getting down to 4000 feet with this one, and it has been so rare for much of the winter, it is really good to see that. just because it is nice to see winter storms be able to do what they used to, so often do. and now so rarely do, which is give the snow level down to about 4000 feet, we have a winter storm warning going until about 8:00 a.m. all right that covers this particular storm, one thing i want to do is get you ready for a different aspect of tomorrow's weather. and it is a cold front that cancer tumor and that is going to do exactly what it would have you believe, and we are going to experience temperatures tomorrow, that will be 10 degrees cooler, than they were for today, and certainly for the last few days, we have been doing low

70s, and for the last four days, and only going to the low 60s down there. everybody is in the low 60s tomorrow, so going to feel cooler, and we will have some cool breezes to go along with all of this, which means, it is going to feel cooler than the low 60s, and just to show you what comes next. two potential storms here, and the first one shows up by next wednesday and there's another one potentially by next friday. and we are going to go to deep into these but i think it's important to start looking at this now because this particular long-range model has been good with the long-range stuff on the winter. and the idea of the second half of next week , we are going to stay in an active pattern, so look at the wednesday, thursday and friday, i think we should brush all three of these, even if right now it does look like there's a little bit of a target on wednesday and friday. the timing can shift on that, so sara, it will be interesting, next week. back to you.
