tournament. >> let's transition to the east region. here come the dukes of duquesne. i pencilled in byu a few times in my bracket, and it's just too late for an eraser for this one. dukes head coach announced earlier in the week he would retire at the end of the season. well, they kept going with byu. came the dukes, jake demichael. and duquesne's first tournament since 1977, dukes by 14, little over five minutes left. robinson, fade away three cut duke's lead to one. duquesne by two just under two minutes. byu's -- oh, the slam. and the dukes retook the lead at the free throw line, up three, 30 seconds left. jimmy clark drove in. bucket, five-point lead, and the 11 seed duquesne upset sixth seed

cougars, 71-67. duke's first tournament win since 1969. and extended coach's career at least another game. >> they just won't let me retire, man. i've tried to retire, but we keep winning games. they're going to make me an old man. i thought we did an unbelievable job of taking their punches and punching back. they wobbled us for sure. we were wobbly legged. we had a cut under our eye, over our eye, but we just kept fighting back. >> all right, so the dukes even got a shout-out from lebron james for their first tournament win in 55 years. dan was james' ehigh school coach in akron. so coach, duquesne last won in 1969, dan is trying to retire they, won't let him do it, coach. who was their star player? >> oh. >> any guesses? >> you know the name that comes to my mind, green, didn't he go to duquesne?

on the women's side, stanford will be at home for the first and hopefully second round of the ncaa tournament. they will host 15 seed norfolk state tomorrow night, and for more on the cardinal, here is matt lively. >> the stanford women's basketball team has a player that's fuelled them into march. she gives them her all on the court while keeping them loose off of it. >> kiki is like, i'd liken her to an energizer bunny. >> reporter: there's no denying who gets the stanford cardinal going, kiki is impressive during games and one of the team's most interesting characters when the clock hits zero. >> kiki off the court, she's very dramatic. she's very confident. she's very outgoing. >> yes, those are very true. >> reporter: whether it's

making a tiktok with a teammate or attacking the rim, she's always having fun. >> i'm a little bit crazy and weird sometimes when i play in a great way. if i can just get my teammates, my coaches to laugh, that's literally my purpose of the day when i come to practice. >> reporter: she's both the team comedian and one of its best players. she's no joke to opposing coach who is voted her the pac-12's most improved player this season. >> mentally for me things have been so different i've had a lot more confidence in myself, and i think it being my junior year was very like much more assertive, like it's now or never for me. so i think all that aligned and it allowed me to, you know, get where i am this season. >> reporter: she was a top ten rebounder in the country while averaging over 18 points a game. >> you know, kiki is without a doubt just one of the best and most improved players in our program's history. >> reporter: with a promising basketball future ahead of her, she doesn't shy away from her other passions either, and her

nonbasketball business, the iconic voice of brooks moon, the giants p.a. announcer since oracle park opened up in 2000 won't be back this season after the club announced this week they are parting ways with one of the most popular figures in the organization. the giants will now search for a replacement with a home opener just around the corner. >> she's truly a forever giant, and she is a san francisco giants icon. we're going to start our search for a new p.a. announcer soon, and understand the process will require time because she is a legend and is very, very tough shoes to fill. >> and jenny cavnar is quickly getting acclimated to the bay

area. she was on the call for monday's warrior game. next week, cavnar will be in the booth for opening night at the coliseum, where she will become the first woman to be the team's primary play-by-play announcer. >> i think i'm overwhelmed with grat feud more than anything. the amount of people, friends, family that have reached out, but then the amount of people in the baseball industry. and you just feel really good about the time you spent, the relationships you've built, and it's been pretty overwhelming. >> what i saw you as the kicker story on the cbs evening news i was like, oh snap. that's a national story now. >> finally tonight, history is being made in major league baseball with the oakland a's naming jenny cavnar as its lead play-by-play announcer. >> what is it like for you to go from being one that tells the story -- >> yeah. >> -- to now being the story? >> yeah, it's uncomfortable in our world. you're not supposed to be the story in journalism, rule 101, right? you were blown

away, my mom, i think this is a big job now. my mom saw me on national television. so yeah, it's very interesting. but i've also understood the importance of why this is the story, right. it's bigger than just me getting a dream job, which sit a dream job, and one i've worked hard for. but this story is more the fact that the next generation is going to have a lot of opportunity because there's representation. >> right. >> across the board, across sports, across women seeing themselves in different roles and what they can do. very different than when i grew up in high school and knowing i wanted to be a sideline reporter because that was my representation, what i saw reflected. i'm just excited to be a part of that conversation and really honored. >> when you got this gig, did colorado, san diego kind of flash before you. this is next level stuff. >> it really is. it really is. i think just to get into baseball back in 2007, i mean, that hit me like a freight train. again, i was ready to go into football as a sideline reporter. i realize very quickly at my time in san diego

ago. we're already detecting lightning off the far northwest coast. that's going to be one defining character of this rain the next three days. if i fill in the rest of the story, look where the storm is now. it's not getting until tomorrow morning. by morning it's north bay. 1 p.m. it's starting to move across the heart of the bay and when we will see noticeable rain for the evening commute with thunderstorm. saturday the rest of the system comes onshore and the center of the system more potential for isolated thunderstorms saturday into sunday. i know this went fast, not much detail but i wanted to show the overview. sunday night we are done. we are going to slow it down. i'll show you your part of the bay in the complete forecast will back to you. >> thanks so much.

california mental health and homeless crisis now that prop one has passed newsom is under pressure to deliver for people struggling with a diks and mental health issues and even with the governor's backing prop 1 squeaked by with a thin margin. critics say it's throwing more money at a problem that the government has failed to fix. kelsey has a closer look where the money will go. >> in what was a much closer than expected election, one that took more than two weeks to call. california's prop 1 has officially passed hitting the ground running governor gavin newsom one of the main proponents of the ballot initiative told voters they wouldn't regret their decision. >> what i would say about proposition 1 is you will be

proud. that's exactly what this initiative brings nell reforms. >> it looks to tackle the homelessness crisis reforming the 2004 mental health services act requiring counties to spend 60 percent of funds received from that act on housing and programs for homeless people dealing with serious mental illness or substance abuse. the proposition also authorizes the state to borrow $$6 billion to build more than 4,000 housing units adding mental health and a diks treatment beds. mark is ceo of camelot, a local behavioral health provider will he supported prop 1 since the beginning and believes it will help get people the treatment they need. >> housing first which is getting people housed who have been unhoused is an important first step to stableizing them to get the proprietary care they

need. >> mark salazar ceo of mental health association of san francisco isn't so optimistic. he is worried prop 1 will force more people into involuntary treatment. he also says the story structure of the mental health services act will lead to significant cuts in funding to programs across the state, including his own. >> we can manage an organization but there's many that cannot manage who are smaller and focused on specific target groups or populations that cannot manage it will likely either lose funding. >> so the exact impact of prop 1 will take time to come into focus but the governor says the funding will reach the cities and counties by october. san francisco mayor breed says her team is working on a plan to

allocate that funding before it arrives. before prop 1 california had spent nearly $20 billion the last four years to tackle homelessness but in that time the number of unhoused people in the state rose 40 percent. >> here is a look at some of the other stories we are following around the bay. alameda county d.a. is moving forward with a murder charge against a robbery suspect in the death of his alleged accomplice. prosecutors say that travon johnson was part after group who rob and armored truck in 2022, one of them killed when a security guard opened fire and prosecutors are seeking to hold johnson accountable for that death. he could face life in prison. we know a lafayette man was innocent killed wrong way crash i-580 this week, police say 57-year-old lee devastated weiner was dyna drive and killed

in a suspect smash-and-grab led police on a chase will the two suspects had major injuries. a memorial is growing at a bus stop in san francisco west portal neighborhood for family of four killed in a crash over the weekend grieving community members have been stopping by to pay respects dropping off flowers and toys at the bus bench. the family was waiting for the bus when a suv on the wrong side of the street slammed into them. the father and toddler died at the scene. the mother died on sunday followed by the couple's 3 month old baby. the 78-year-old woman who was driving is still in the hospital. when we last collected is facing vehicular manslaughter charges and police in petaluma looking for two people suspect had of stealing about a $1,000 of copper wire from a hardware store that investigators say they took without paying and left in a dark red sedan. >> still ahead in tonight's

than it is to allow it to persist. so, biodiversity is threat end in many ways by humanity and the arctic fox is exemplified by that. >> back in the arctic norwegian scientists ever set up 30 feeding stations across the wilderness and they believe without them the arctic fox would go extinct. >> we stop the feeding we see a decrease. >> the international union for the conservation of nature reported how over 44,000 species are threatened with extinction will dr. hadley believes we have a moral responsibility to consider what we can do to stem the loss. >> it requires major activities on the part of humanity, not just a single person. we can all do our share. but it requires major major action for us to consider what we can do to stem the change.

tomorrow, it's just the north bay valleys included in this 20 percent chance of thunderstorms. look at saturday. we are all in it. here's the way to take away terminology when you hear 20 percent chance of thunderstorms, what the that is technically tell you is that for that particular day for saturday everybody has got a 20 percent chance of thunderstorms. in other words the any location where ever you are in this you particularly have a 20 percent chance to see a thunderstorm at some point on that day. it's going to go on sunday as well. let's go through the time on this. leading edge of this, north day, you have the better chance tomorrow for isolated thunderstorm. you can see why because as this cold front comes in there's more energy available in the north bay for this with higher rainfall totals. then early noon that line

marches south redevelops over the east bay and into the evening commute some of the better rain shows up peninsula east bay trivalley and could come as isolated thunderstorm. better odds north by shore but i wouldn't rule it out tomorrow. that looks impressive there. that was the open wave. watch what happens saturday. now we don't see so much of an organized orderly line. we don't have the cold front. what we have now on saturday is just widespread isolated showers and occasionally in the form of isolated thunderstorms. you see a lot more of them. it's more chaotic. we are not going to try to time out individual cells or locations this way bit you look for patterns so second half saturday into sunday morning there's just a lot more on here. lot more ingredients. second half saturday into sunday would be one of the more likely time frames to see it. watch the last part of the train
