administration pushes for a pause in the fighting. and breaking overnight, explosions rocket a detroit suburb. an industrial building goes up in flames, sending debris shooting into the air. well, good morning and good to be with you. i'm anne-marie green. super tuesday is finally here, coming one day after the u.s. supreme court ruled against colorado's efforts to remove donald trump from the ballot. will nikki haley, his last standing republican challenger, manage to survive today's vote? trump won last night's republican caucus, notching another victory on his path toward a likely rematch against president biden. today voters in 15 states and one territory head to the polls with 865 delegates on the line, the biggest single-day haul in the presidential primary. cbs's skyler henry is joining us now from alexandria, virginia.

skyler, good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you. as you mentioned, primary voters all across the country from here in virginia out to california will be heading to the polls as the presidential front runners look to get one step closer to securing their party's nominations. super tuesday is here with hundreds of delegates up for grabs in 15 states in american samoa. last night the gop front-runner, former president donald trump, swept the north dakota gop caucuses. it followed the release of the supreme court's unanimous decision that says states like colorado cannot ban trump from the ballot. >> i think it will go a long way toward bringing our country together. >> reporter: for republican rival nikki haley, it's make or break amid gop calls for her to drop out of the race, though,

over the weekend she picked up her first primary in washington, d.c. >> we can either have more of the same or go in a new direction. >> reporter: cbs news polling shows a large margin of likely voters have negative feelings about a possible biden/trump rematch. the same polls show biden behind trump in a head-to-head matchup. meanwhile states are pushing people to vote uncommitted over the war in gaza. >> we all want this conflict to end as soon as possible. >> reporter: even if both front-runners pull off a clean sweep tonight, they still won't win enough delegates to clinch their partys nomination. and while all eyes will be on the presidential race, we'll also be paying attention to several key races down the ballot. as well, there will be contests for u.s. senate, u.s. governor races, as well as 100 house seats that could potentially be secured tonight. that's because the primary

winners won't have much competition come the general election in november. anne-marie? well, be sure to watch cbs news' extensive coverage of the super tuesday primary at 8:00 p.m. on cbs news streaming and continuing here on cs with a special at 10:00 p.m. eastern. so the white house is intensifying calls for a temporary cease-fire on the israel/hamas war, and they're turning to a political rival of benjamin netanyahu visiting washington for help, this as a u.n. report finds there are reasonable grounds to believe hamas committed sexual violence during the october 7th massacre and on women and children held hostage. israel's military also released new information on the embattled u.n. aid agency unruh saying the organization employed more than 450 military opera actives from hamas and other israel groups, though, it provided no evidence to back up its investigation.

yesterday. prime minister benjamin netanyahu fiercely opposed this visit, anne-marie, which some say the fact that it's happening anyway shows some fractures in his government. >> i think o. jarred, thank you very much. well, the supreme court temporarily blocked a new texas law that allows police in the state to arrest migrants who enter the u.s. illegally. the new law was set to take effect yesterday. yesterday justice samuel alito put the new law on hold while a high court looks at the case. and an air force civilian employee is due in federal court in nebraska today after charges of sharing classified information on a foreign dating website. prosecutors say david slater shared about the war in ukraine that he learned while attending briefing s he communicated with an unindicted co-conspirator who

claimed to be a woman living in ukraine. and a national guard member pleaded guilty to leaking class feud military documents. the 22-year-old jack teixeira admitted in court in boston about leaking information about the war in ukraine and other things on social media. he could be sentenced to 17 years in prison. just as people in california dig out from a massive blizzard, more snow is on the way, and it comes after a weekend blizzard dumped more than 7 feet of snow in the sierra nevada. hurricane-force winds closed highways and knocked out power, and left hundreds of cars and trucks stranded on the roads in nevada. winter warning effects are in effect in california where another foot or two of snow could fall in the next 24 hours. cooler temperatures and hundreds of additional firefighters are helping in the battle against several wildfires in the texas panhandle. the smokehouse creek fire, the

"the new york times" says former trump financial officer allen weisselberg pleaded guilty to perjury. he admitted in a courtroom yesterday to lying under oath during a testimony in donald trump's civil fraud case. the plea deal does not require weisselberg to cooperate or testify against trump at his hush money trial this month. weisselberg will be sentenced to five months in jail. he served 100 days last year in an unrelated tax fraud case. and "the times" says france is the first country to explicitly enshrine abortion rights into its constitution. the french parliament voted overwhelmingly to approve the right yesterday. they held a celebration at the eiffel tower after the vote. the legislation was inspired by the rollback of reproduction active rights in several countries including the u.s. abortions in france have been legal since 1975. still to come, he's hanging up his cleats. we're going to show you jason kelce's tearful message to the philadelphia faithful. es.

today's "moneywatch." stocks close lower monday, pausing wall street's record-setting rally. the dow dipped 98 points, the nasdaq lost 67 points, and the s&p 500 slipped 6 points coming off its latest all-time high. jetblue and spirit airlines have called off their plans for a $3.8 billion merger. it comes off a lawsuit from the justice department that challenged the deal. a judge ruled that jetblue's takeover of spirit would harm cost-conscious travelers who rely on spirit's low fares. apple has been hit with a fine of nearly $2 billion in one of europe's largest antitrust actions ever. the eu said apple prevented music streaming services like spotify from telling european iphone users that they could find cheaper ways to subscribe outside of apple's app store. apple plans to appeal. coffee-mate and dr pepper
