11:01 pm
news bay area. hello, i'm sara donchey. we do start with a story that so deeply upset all of us here tonight, so much so that it's difficult to even talk about. a family out doing something as innocent as going for a walk on a street in san francisco had their lives turned upside down today. their four-year-old daughter was hit by a car and killed. the crash happened at 5:15 this evening at 4th and king right outside of the cal train station and just down the road from oracle park where the giants were about to play. our betty yu is in mission bay tonight with more on why there have been concerns about safety in this very spot. >> reporter: the accident happened during the height of rush hour and traffic due to th giants game, so there were a lo of cars and pedestrians around at that time. a witness who called 911 told me off camera that she saw the young girl underneath the car and multiple people tried to help lift it. a nurse passed by and also performed cpr, but it was unfortunately too late. a four-year-old girl was killed.
11:02 pm
the parents were pushing their child in the stroller in the crosswalk when they were hit by the gray mercedes suv according to police. it also looks like the car hit a pole in the median. we later saw the driver sitting in the back of a police vehicle. witnesses said cars were able to turn at the time but had to yield to pedestrians they told us one driver in a white truck did so, but the driver in the suv was not able to. the father suffered life threatening injuries. the four-year-old was pronounced dead at the hospital. the mothe was not injured. police said th victims were not from the area. the driver stayed on scene and is cooperating with police. we spoke with residents nearby who say this is an intersection where they have to use extreme caution when crossing. what's i like as pedestrians crossing th street? especially with your dog? >> yeah, i mean for the most part, i think it's safe, but i mean, like, this is like a major, you know, the freeway is like right there, and so this i

because the criminal justice system is racially biased. >> reporter: her supporters insist it will take time and claim the recall itself is racially motivated, but price's critics insist this is not justice at all. >> it's not going to stop. it's not going to stop until we spea out. the people. until we can get the justice that we feel that the victim families deserve. >> we reached out to pamela price's office multiple times today but did not hear back. a new look from above tonight off lahaina, which is still smoldering. it's been a week since a fire destroyed the town. 106 people have died. mor than a thousand are still missing all these days later. a mobile morgue unit arrived toda

be pretty cooperative around th bay area the next several days. we will see a chance of actual showers. >> wow. >> later this week. not something you associate with th month of august in the bay area but it's the remnants of this tropical system hanging off the coast. this is what's left of eugene just hanging out the las several days. still a noticeabl level of manage mugginess in the atmosphere. most of the activity is concentrated in northern california and the hig sierra, but then we might see some green showing up, flickers and radar freckles showing the potential of light showers, maybe even enough juice in the atmosphere for an isolated thunderstorm. we always have to watch the potential of dry lightning strikes resulting in wildfire ignitions, but really the threat will remain elsewher
11:17 pm
the next couple of days. then we'll watch friday with a bigge surge of tropical moisture likely by early next week. the heat will be the big story tomorrow for inland parts of th bay area. moderate heat risk does retreat a little bit on thursday and retreats much more by friday. friday rolls around along with additional cloud cover and the outside chance of showers. we're back to near or slightly below average temperatures, which should feel pretty pleasant after the hot weather inland along with humidity making it feel even hotter the last few days. temperatures in livermore and concord in the low 70s. just below 70 right now in san jose. right at 60 in san francisco. nobody in the 50s yet. and that's also unusual. we are going to see the fog spreading across the bay throughout the rest of tonight. trying to infiltrate the inland valleys, but the weight of the atmospher means it's a pretty shallow layer of fog. should see plenty of sunshine by 8:00 or 9:00 and
11:18 pm
sun breaking quickly around the bay. temperatures tonight mostl in the low to mid-60s. that's above average because the moisture in the air means the air doesn't cool efficiently, s an artificially high jumping of point to heat to the upper 60s along the coast, 80s along the peninsula, and low to mid- 90s inland in the santa clara valle with a lot of 90s inland in the east bay. the delta around 100 in the hottest spots. hot, but not record setting. near 70 in san francisco. upper 80s to 90 for much of the north bay until you get further inland. if you're headed to the finale of the giants and ray, hoping to keep it going. temperatures ris to around 70 as the game is wrapping up. first pitch at 12:45. temperatures in the mid-60s. temperatures settle to near average friday, saturday, and sunday. despite the next surge of tropical moisture
11:19 pm
monday and tuesday, and more cloud cover, we'll still warp up. temperatures will be back t above average levels by monday and tuesday, but at least we've gotten into the pattern where the most pleasant temperatures occur over the weekend. low to mid-80s for most areas. along the coast, not much change, jus staying in the mid-60s, nice an consistent unlike the giants recently. >> unlike the giants. but, paul ahead in sports, is there something in the water at least tonight down at 3rd and king? plus the seemingly quiet kid from iowa state has moves. broc purdy discusses his celebration that we never saw coming.
