7:00 am

7:01 am
outside, rain is starting to hit the bay area, a series of storms is expected over the next 10 days. what's get the next alert meteorologist. >> we are seeing light rain in the north bay. showers have been pretty light, and they are way up on the northwest corner into mendocino. santa rosa is likely not even noticing a whole lot of rain from that yet. but if we put it in the future cast you can see of that changes. as we go to the morning you can see more widespread rain down up in the 101 into the early morning hours, and that will stay fairly rainy through sonoma county for most of the morning. but if you are in the golden gate south you may not get much rain at all until we get into the evening tonight, late afternoon and evening, here we are at 6:00 showers become more numerous for the majority of us from golden gate south, and then we get into the main event tonight, which comes right here. this is the cold front of today's storm, and it is where we are going to get
7:02 am
the best of the rain today. everyone will get in on the act in this part of the storm and that doesn't show up until tonight and then it will rain from 9:00 tonight into the early predawn hours on sunday, that is storm number one, the big one gets here on monday, we will talk about that one from a floating perspective, there is also a wind advisory today that we need to go over as well, a few minutes, back to. the city of capitola is trying to recover from the worst storm damage it has had in nearly 40 years. this is new chopper video over the coastline that is showing part of a cliff that has crumbled away from under an apartment complex with chance of patio that went with it. and this is the reality from business owners. just look at them standing in the rubble, left behind after pounding waves smashed their stores and restaurants. the capitola village saw some of the worst damage with correct foundations, damaged sewer lines and buckled the floor lines. >> i think right now it is
7:03 am
about salvaging what we can , it is difficult it is like a small family business we had covid on the other side, we were looking to revamp and reset and try to push on through and this is a major setback. in sonoma come county, the rushing river could present problems, flooding is also a big concern there evacuation morning still in effect. the river is supposed to reach 32 feet on sunday night. it could surpass 39 feet, by tuesday night. that is when we will likely see flooding. that is why people need to be ready to leave those areas at a moment's notice. >> also, in sonoma county, a bridge meant to help people northwest of santa rosa, well, it is now underwater, this is a long weller road, which is close to river road. check this out, caltrans will have a chance for clearing this rockslide on highway 1. it happened 50 miles south of an
7:04 am
that landslide. e s, hs ea rer mostpart notice. we checked out the open space in lafayette. you can see large parts of the hillside have just slid away. cattle also graze in that area, which makes it prone to erosion. a storm, earlier this week, was especially bad for a preschool . they had a tree crush down on the building after the storm on new year's day. now, thankfully it was empty when that happened. england school spent friday cleaning up the mock on its campus. good and shows us the extent of the work that needs to be done in order for students to return to class. >> reporter: that's right, the snow glenn school is racing to
7:05 am
fix that storm damage. they already put up new fencing and they also are packing up these sandbags as well all in time for class to resume on monday. this is part of what the snow glenn school looked like after the intense storms. in some areas there was a flood. >> pretty much a raising river coursing through the campus, and obviously the streamsaidcr tentthat on the barriers that it had. >> reporter: the storm damage plagued areas in the back of the school is where the damage was done. >> there are three classrooms and they moved one-2 feet off of their foundation. there's five shipping containers, and those shipping containers had all been just tossed around, and one of them was wedged up against the main building back there. >> and one of those
7:06 am
containers, cost them equipment. the school uses the theater to put on plays that help the students in the theater department. >> everybody was concerned, because the water was enough for the debris to push it across the schoolyard. how have you stockton? it was only >> points says the community is asking for help with the school's recovery. >> we had a moisture survey conducted in every single classroom. every classroom to get the green light, so students are able to occupy, and staff are able to occupy those classrooms. >> all day, friday, cleaning and maintenance crews maintained to assess and clean. to safe about was our sewer system, because we wanted to make sure that that was not compromised with that flood of
7:07 am
water. % get the all clear with the sewage system, so, as of right now, school is set to start on monday, no, that is all depend on this weekend. it does happen they will go to online learning. coming up, roofers in high demand, we follow a contractor, as he xes leaks, ahead of the next big storm. his advice on how to best protect your home. cars are also taking a beating in severe weather
7:08 am
7:09 am
7:10 am
>>welcome opeceir mes is iori ng this wet weather. ifyou live in cisc they are k e puic s opation word. there is a 10 bag limit per household. all across the bay area, roofers have been really busy fixing leaky roofs and kpix 5 finished those repairs before the next round of rain reaches us. merrily caught up with one contractor as he was out on a repair job. >> for cameron, who owns allied roofing in san jose, roofing is a family affair. >> my dad and uncle started a roofing business in the 1970s, and i have been doing roofing, basically, for my whole life. i went to give him the truck in the morning, and go to the
7:11 am
office and get jobs when i was just two or three years old. >> we met up with shane at this home in saratoga, where he is fixing a leaky roof. >> today, we are repairing a leaky roof, and what we have, what we believe we have, is some atul flashing, and shingles that are just not installed properly. we are going to take that all apart, and basically do surgery on it. so, the roof damage, we believe , is coming from this corner here. >> shane says it is usually when it is raining, that homeowners discover they have a problem with took us inside the home to show us where the roof is leaking into the damage to the ceiling of this kitchen pantry. >> it has been a long time since we have steam seen storms like this in the amount of rain we are getting and calls that are coming through of questions of what to do and how to do it. >> with our powerful at miss rivers we have already seen, and more storms on the way,
7:12 am
shane says it is so important to get an annual roof inspection, which is free. he says you should have regular roof maintenance to clean your gutters and services every year. >> it is not always that easy to know, unless you are really diligent about maintaining your property, inspecting your attic. >> reporter: good advice from a roofing expert, so you don't have to call shane with a roofing emergency when our next storm hits. and we have seen a lot of images like this across the bay area over the past week. cars submerged in floodwater, often coming from overflowing creeks, and that could lead to pretty in-depth repair bills. >> one of my neighbors was having a car, and by the time she got there it was-- the flooding was so intense it messed up her electrical system. her insurance company ended up totaling the car. >> now, here is what you need to know. mechanics tell us just because you don't see the damage, that doesn't mean it is not there, especially if the water was high enough to soak
7:13 am
the car's carpets. well, there is more rain coming if you haven't heard. so, let's take it in order. the main event is on monday, that is the storm that we really want to make sure you are prepared the most for, and we are going to be giving you as much information as we can, between now and tuesday about that. but we still have a weekend, and it is going to rain today, but today's rain is pretty manageable. light showers here through sonoma county, and the rain will stick and find to the north bay, for pretty much throughout the morning today. you might get a lunch hour south of golden gate, but primarily north a rain for the bulk of today. then, in the afternoon, we will see a few more showers start to crop up, we will get a little bit of rain pretty much anywhere, bay area wide, as we get into sunset tonight. but it is really later tonight, when the main event of this particular storm comes onshore. you can see why i would say that, when we take a look at the later hours. there is 7:00
7:14 am
in the you can see what is coming. and it is here, by the time we get to 9:00. there is your organized line, with widespread heavy rain and strongest winds. so, even though this is not the bigger storm that monday will be, saturday's rain is still significant in its own right, it is just that it is not get here until later tonight. and when the rain comes and we will also see the wind picked up, we could see 40 mile an hour gusts as that one of heavier showers moves across the bay from 9:00. now we are taking a look at midnight, now we are taking a look at, just before sunrise tomorrow. the bulk of this is going to happen in the late hours of tonight and the predawn hours of tomorrow, in terms of rainfall, and then it will be done, by late morning. most of sunday you are not going to get rained on. sunday is a day off from the rain, anyway. but, between now and early sunday morning we are going to get an inch and a half of rain for some of our north bay communities. santa rosa comes with about an inch and a half, it will be less than that for the rest of the bay, certainly from, say the golden
7:15 am
gate south, we will have an half an inch of rain and that covers this first storm. there will be a flood watch that goes into effect this afternoon, and it doesn't expire until we get to tuesday night. that one is primarily in place for what is coming on monday. so, we will look at the flood watch in a second. to go hand-in-hand with today's rain, watch the screen light up as we get into the afternoon and evening for winds. we have wind gusts 30-40 miles per hour. this takes us into the afternoon, it gets its strongest right here as that line of heavier showers as much and across the bay, that 10:00-11:00 hour . this is where we will see 30 to 40 mile an hour gusts, if we have an occasional tree go over or maybe more than an occasional tree this would be our highest point vulnerability to that. 10:00 to midnight, wind gusts are reaching their strongest. so, the flood watch, which starts today, in fact, it just went into effect, saturday, 7:00 a.m., doesn't expire until tuesday afternoon, that is bay area wide, you know the concern on that in the drill there,
7:16 am
that is a concern for roadways, and also streams and creeks for now. so keep that in mind in the north bay today, particularly and into tomorrow morning. and there is the wind advisory. that starts all -- today, 10:00 a.m. and goes until 1:00 in the afternoon tomorrow. so, there's your first storm. sunday, we get a break. so, now, if you look at the more impactful storm, you will see why that gets a bigger headline, when we bring things ahead to right here. that is monday at 1:00 a.m., and this is a far more-- better organized and particular system, and it is going to be tapping into a stronger atmospheric river, which means widespread, steady, heavy rain throughout the day on monday into tuesday. and it will go that long. it is going to start monday morning, and we are really not going to be done with it until we get to about tuesday morning, although the heaviest rain does come through the early morning hours on monday, but then we are still going to be in it. scattered showers schama, stay with us. that is an additional two inches more , bay area wide.
7:17 am
the totals we are looking at on the screen. these only apply to the system that is coming in on monday and tuesday to keep things in perspective. that is why we have got four first alert days on here. the primary concern really does fall here on monday and tuesday , and then we will get a little bit of a break on wednesday and thursday, but there are more systems coming, devon, and as we get into friday and next weekend there are still more well organized storms that we can see in the long-range forecast that are going to be heading our way, so we need to hunker down with the idea that we will take these one storm at a time, but we are in this for a little while to go here. >> you know, i know that causes problems a lot of time is the temple of these storms. how much do we get a break before sunday before the next week comes to? >> huge. on the one hand it is a huge benefit, because if we didn't have that break the flooding scenario would be far worse. having said that, even with those short breaks, if we keep doing system after system,
7:18 am
while the brakes are hugely beneficial, if the storms keep coming, eventually they will get time on thdeth floodiimto th eachprogreive storm, which is why tuesday is a bigger issue. even with the brakes we have had. the volvo vulnerability of flooding and tuesday is higher than it was, but it would be worse if we didn't have these breaks. in hawaii, mount kilauea started erupting again this week. you can see the lava growing red hot. kilauea is one of the most active volcanoes. park officials say there is no immediate danger from disruption, so a lot of folks, locals and tourists are making the trek up the mountain to witness it firsthand. the eruption is expected to remain inside the crater at the summit and going away for populated areas. coming up, more signs of improvement from demarre hamlin, the player that were doing into cardiac arrest in the middle of the game.
7:19 am
when it rains it pours, clearly. good things come in bunches. we have heard the saying before and it is apparent in the area seen right now. steph curry back to practice, deebo samuel >>
7:20 am
7:21 am
ancio. so, this nd prelude. t expect over the next 48 hours or so? >> well, one of the surprising things is the amount of wind coming. even this morning, at
7:22 am
sfo, winds are gusting close to 30 miles per hour, and we have a wind advisory went into effect this morning, the winds could be gusting 30-40, 50 miles an hour, some of the hills around town, north bay, south bay, still could be, perhaps 60 mile-per-hour wind gusts. we are talking getting a tropical storm forced wind gusts, that is not something you see all of the time. i the way, the same winds will only get stronger as you head into the sierra, so, a lot of people this morning are just trying to get out the door to get there with all the suspect and snow on the way, but expect these winds to be howling maybe 80-hurricane force winds, 80 to 100 miles per hour, which means a lot of ski results resorts limiting what is open. the cost of those winds. we have seen chairlifts swinging side to side in these winds, i think that is the unexpected consequence. everybody, has already so far this year , we are expecting the ring. we know the problems with that, but the wind is the initial kind of surprise that takes people off guard and i saw a lot of tents
7:23 am
being put up. it is going to wi will only to keep thos e gr throughout this morning and definitely into the afternoon. >> and i think the story with the saturated ground and strong wind down trees and power outages, what should we expect with that? >> expect more of that, and the good news is we had some dry time yesterday. so, that allowed some of -- at least the streets to dry out, but we have not had a consecutive streak of even three or four dry days, since christmas day. we had the run up to christmas, weather, dry weather, but since then, i guess, if people are wishing for the senate to bring an end to the drought, but that has also given us the saturated ground here, and the rain has come through the
7:24 am
weekend and into this week. that will continue to be a problem. with the winds today, perhaps doing some damage to trees are pushing them for their over, the added rain to come, will definitely bring more trees down, breaking more power lines now , causing more hills to slide as well. so this is a big-time problem, then we have to deal with the rivers which have been rising since the rain really started a couple of weeks ago, but the other concern is with the rain to come, once the river starts flooding and this goes from here all the way to sacramento and this is like a slow-motion disaster, because think about the elevation. san francisco, okay, we are a few feet above sea level. sacramento is 80-90 miles away, but they are at 30 feet, so imagine 30 20, if you are a runner that is not a steep hill at all. you barely even feel that, which means it's it takes that much longer, once the central valley

starts flooding that has a lot of concerns for the farmers, they go from drought and can put anything in their fields for weeks, maybe even months. all right, paul goodloe of the weather channel. thank you so much. no 49ers team has won 10 street, since 1994. san francisco could change that this sunday. the arizona cardinals are in town to close out the regular-season, and i should mention it is the replacement arizona cardinals. meanwhile, on the other side, the 49ers getting players back. wide receiver, deebo samuel lost the last three games with knee and ankle injuries. san francisco will also welcome the running back, elijah mitchell. running back, christian mccaffrey, will also play, despite missing practice, wednesday and thursday, one player who will not suit up? one-bagger, jake greenlaw , out with an injury. going in the final week of the regular-season, san francisco could be the one, the two or

from cbs news bay area, this is the morning edition. welcome back, the time now is 7:32, thank you so much for joining us, i am devon feely, . e rain from storm number one in this forecast coming into the north bay this morning. it has been fairly light to moderate rain for sonoma county, it is the leading edge of today's system, and there is a far more impressive line that is going to march across the entire bay later tonight , as the cold front comes in with this. and if we just look in on the future cast, you can see showers hanging out in the north bay for most of the region. a few scattered showers across the bay, once we get into the late afternoon, most
7:33 am
of the day if you are from san francisco, southward you likely don't notice a lot of rain until we get to this evening, then you can see widespread, steady, heavy rain coming with a cold front that gets us to around 9:00 tonight. that is going to be more impactful. it is also going to get windy as this comes through. so, there is a flood advisory from this. there is a wind advisory that we need to talk about. we will go over the details of what this means for sunday, and then we will get into the far bigger issue, which is the monday storm. and that is still the main system driving the flood concerns as we go to the early part of this week. i will show you all of that coming up in the complete first forecast in just a few minutes. back over you. after 15 rounds of voting, the house of representatives has finally elected a new speaker. kevin mccarthy secured the devil after a chaotic night at the house floor. cbs news correspondent, wendy gillett has the latest on the deciding vote. >> kevin mccarthy of the state of california has received 216.
7:34 am
>> reporter: it took 15 votes, but finally, kevin mccarthy get the support he needed from his fellow republicans to become speaker of the house. >> it took a little longer than we thought, but if there is one thing i want the country to hopefully learn about this week is that i will never give up. >> the next speaker of the 118th congress, kevin mccarthy. >> kevin mccarthy claimed the speaker's gavel claiming four days of dissension not seen since the days of the civil war. the inviting led to harsh words on the house floor, during the 14th vote. mccarthy had to flip more than a dozen conservatives, to give him the majority he needed. >> now the hard work begins. what we do here today , next week, next month, next year will set the tone for everything that follows, so help you god. congratulations.
7:35 am
newly elected members of congress were sworn in, but a debate and vote on a rules package was delayed until monday. and a demonstration that there can be quick progress in washington, this sign was hung early saturday at the capitol, recognizing the new speaker . wendy gillett, cbs news. the house will reconvene late on monday east coast time. tonight, we have been covering the story for months. from college student murdered and their off campus home. we are learning more about san anselmo five. he appeared in a idaho court earlier this week, a newly unsealed affidavit says that investigators found dna at the crime scene, a key to connecting the suspect to that cry. cbs correspondent, peter van sant spoke to the suspect's friends and colleagues to learn more about him. >> the most surprising thing, to me, is that he seems to be

somewhat of a chameleon, depending on who you talk to he is either shy and awkward or he can be overbearing, deeply llt, onems to be insecure , it is all over the map, when we talk to various people. >> to find out more, you can watch the episode, called the idaho student murders, it airs tonight on 48 hours, on kpix 5 and streaming on paramount plus. moving to the war in ukraine, the biden administration says it is sending $4 billion of new military assistance to support in ukraine and its neighbors. the u.s. has now committed more than $4 billion to ukraine, since rush's invasion began more than 10 months ago. >> today, the united states will demonstrate our continued and during commitment to ukraine's ability to defend itself, with the announcement of over $3 billion in new military assistance to ukraine, including $2.8 billion drawdown for ukraine , the

7:41 am
only growing with more rain on the way. >> this was last weekend's big storm, people walking this trail was sharp enough to notice the crack in the hillside, and no that it was absolutely something that needed to be reported. now, just about a week later they have covered that break in the ground with a series of tarps, hoping to protect it from the next storm. >> 20 mile an hour winds it is hard to get a town. pat lives right beside the evacuation zone. you can see the effort to protect the hillside that is designed to convey water. >> the water comes through from the hill to a freshwater pond across the street. the bond was pretty empty. >> the evacuated streets are now empty, except for the few homeowners who were allowed to grab more belongings before a more absolute stay out order came this afternoon. >> i guess some people decided to stay , so they had to get

out. >> we are told by a spokesperson for the city that there are really two efforts underway on the hill. first, they are covering the problem area, and they are also installing instruments that should provide a better understanding of what is happening in the ground. is it so moving? is additional rain worsening the problem? well, when they know more about that, they will be able to come up with some long-term plans, but, for now, all they can do is hope that the shterm f prevents any more problems in the days ahead. >> i'm not sure if it will or won't. i hope it does. >> so, how is the work going up there, the engineering firm referred us to the age-related they have not returned our calls yet, but obviously, this entire neighborhood watching the skies, waiting for the storm, hoping the temporary job will hold for now. let's get ready for the next rounds of rain. before i
7:43 am
get into the details on today, i will remind you that the main focus in the first alert forecast is the storm coming in on monday, and we will take some time to look at that one in the forecast, but before we get there, there is rain today. so, let's get some >> the civics on that. pretty steady for that far corner of sonoma county, but it has kind of been hung up there in a line, it is fairly stationary, so we haven't gotten much measurable rain from santa rosa, but that will happen. we will put it into the future cast, and as we go through the morning, that line works its way far enough east, finally, that it becomes more noticeable from the golden gate through the morning today. but it is going to stay north of the golden gate through much of the morning, and as we get through the morning you will see some scattered showers that will get the rest of the bay area. so here we are in the early morning evening. this is not a widespread, steady heavy rain day for the majority of us, but there will be on-again off-again showers that pickup and numbers once we get into
7:44 am
the afternoon today. however, the real impact from the storm, the main event from this particular storm, for saturday night into very early sunday morning is right here. that is when the cold front comes through, and now everybody does get rain. everybody gets fairly steady rain with this as well. and it comes through late tonight, through very early on sunday, like predawn hours of sunday morning, and then this will be done, and we even watch the progression on that. here we are, it is midnight. we are still looking at good rain from this, and by good i mean some brief downpours, widespread, steady, and then it clears, so by sunrise tomorrow, the good news on this weekend this sunday you are the clear. he will not get laid on for the majority of sunday, you will even get breaks of blue sky. but there are impacts to be aware of, from what we will experience on saturday. in addition to the rain, the wind is going to pick up and intensity. as that cold front comes through, the wind gusts are also going to increase. so, by the afternoon we are noting200 mile an hour wind gusts and it gets stronger
7:45 am
as we get into the evening of that cold front comes through. this is the timeframe we would most likely have to deal with any kind of trees going down. it is going to come through tonight. it is really unfortunate timing in that regard, because from this first storm, it's strongest winds happen under cover of darkness tonight, and that would mean the more likely timeframe, which would stress trees from the drought, which saturated the ground and 50 mile an hour gusts in higher elevations would take jason down. that is concern number one, we've got the wind advisory, which stays in effect this morning until sunday in the early afternoon, and then the much wider issue is the flood watch, and that goes into effect now and does not expire until we get into late tuesday, and here is the primary reason for that. in addition to the rain that we just saw coming our way today, which will give us about an inch and a quarter in the north bay, just from today's storm, and a half an inch of rain everywhere else, you can see that on the big pictures and then that clears out, then get a far more impressive storm on
7:46 am
monday. so, as we take a look at monday in the predawn hours, that is when this storm comes onshore into the bay area wid d here we are a i've:00 a.m. is where we are seeing, most likely, the most impressive act aspect monday' a storm has, the heaviest rain, the steadiest rain, everybody is getting in at the same time, and it is also quite windy as this comes through as well. this will also bring its own bit band of 50 mile an hour wind gusts in the hills. maybe 40 mile an hour gusts that the lower elevations. that is one of the more concerning times of the storm, when it comes onshore. but it is the flooding aspects which denlinger well into tuesday, because even if the heaviest and most impressive rain is early, monday, the showers continue throughout the day on monday, and if we look at the rainfall totals, that take us from monday morning into tuesday morning, from the storm alone, that is two and half inches or so, for some north

bay communities, just from the monday' storm, we would have gotten about an inch and a quarter already. so, at all of these numbers together and it is not just the north bay concern. this will be a concern, bay area wide, for roadway flooding that has the most direct impact on the majority of us on monday morning and afternoon is your greatest risk for that anyway. and then it is the major rivers that can become a concern and places like the russian river will likely be in flood stage, by the time we get to monday night. the russian river, as it goes to that canyon will likely crest, probably a foot or two, mamore monday night and stay there isl where the wah is, it a flooin then, we are still several d justto leave you with an ocean, there are more storms out here, i will check back in with you in a couple of minutes, i will just a short

visit with you than, because i want you to see what happens after the seven-day forecast. we are taking these one storm at a time, we are making sure you have got all of the information as they come in, and that is what we are doing now, but in my next visit we were are talking about next weekend, more storms coming, but here's your seven-day forecast for now. we've got four first alert days in a row, today through tuesday and a little bit of a break on wednesday and thursday before the next cycle of storms comes in. >> you know, my take away as we said we wanted the drought to and that is what this looks like. >> it is very classic california, by the way. this is-- of anywhere else in the country, california's climate, historically on record it is the place that goes to the widest springs, from either very dry to very wet, often times back to back. so, you really can't use the word average, when it comes to precipitation here, or normal. exampl >>all right, thank you. the fda has been up approval for a new alzheimer's drug. it is one of the first

okay, having brought you up to speed on the next four days, which are our primary concern, particularly the monday storm, the widespread flooding that is likely going to be a factor across the entire bay, monday afternoon, through tuesday morning, i just wanted to take one more visit with you to give you a long range view of how things are still looking like they are going to play out. so, i'm taking the future cast tonight, but it is now past what we just looked at. so, we are looking at wednesday, january 11th, so this is the middle of this next coming week. and you can already see what is out here, that is the next storm coming our way. and that one likely brings us another round of widespread rain, by the time we have gotten to the end of this week. so that is friday, january 13th. and we can take it beyond that and here comes another system. that is now next saturday. that is a week from today, but another storm comes in. now we will let this play out a little bit longer, and now we are looking, it is kind of ridiculous to go this far. that is january 16th. but the

reason why we are doing this the pattern has been blocked, and while, ordinarily you don't look at a forecast that goes out today tenancy we have got more storms coming, in this case i think it is wise to do, because for the last week and half, these long-range models have been consistently accurate. and in light of the way the storms have been coming in, it is important to leave you with the awareness that, yes, the next few days are important and they are going to be monitored with a lot of detail, but let's not lose sight of the fact that we should probably hunker down with the idea that we need to keep doing this, bubbly going into the middle of january we will keep you updated on all of this as we move through it together. devon, back over you. >> thanks, darren. the recent flooding has been huge for a lot of bay area food trucks, they are stuck without a dry place to park. was a martinez reports that some of them have gone with days without making any money. >> this is what the food mobile parking lot in ansclook like t morning, but this is what it looked like yesterday.

>> it was really tough, normally when it rains a little bit you are able to go out and get whatever you can for the day, people don't really glad when it is raining for a food truck, just because it is out in the open, but for us it is not with the rain and the floods we can't even get to our truck sometimes. >> without access to their trucks, there's no money coming in. >> we just have to prepare. >> that is why we spent the morning with karen gonzalez, the owner of a food truck that sells mexican food all over the city. unfortunately, they have seen the impact of the weather in their pockets. >> karen tells me the problem started on this corner, all of this area was flooded all the way down to the entrance of the parking lot. >> we did have to cancel our wednesday and thursday shifts. we were luckily able to go out, thursday night. we go to a spot called beer bottle in san francisco, the sun was out and we were able to at least one shift. >> but during the heavy rain, henrique martinez says they were basically stocking the parking lot. he says it happens outside , the whole street

floods in the food trucks can't come out, because they get stuck in the water. for now, karen and her team hopes the rain gives them a break so they can recover some of the financial loss, one talk about a time. >> i hope it gets better. >> me too. >> it can only get better from here. >> yeah. in sacramento county, the race is on to repair levee breaks and breaches along the river. it could chris about two feet above flood stage, monday night into tuesday morning. now, the concern is several feet of standing floodwater won't have time to drain way before then. that is especially problematic for crews who have not been able to reach parts of that levy that need repair. >> i've been trying to tell people this for a week. if anyone was on that wilton bridge at 1:00 a.m. or 2:00 a.m. when this love you let loose, their car would have been slammed up against the side of it. >> now, at this point, the
