breaks out -- from san francisco. a three alarm fire breaks out. i'm juliette goodrich. >> and i'm brian hackney. a multi-story building on 8th avenue is on fire. the blames seen for some distance. we're told nobody was hurt, and no word yet on the cause. >> we'll keep following that, but our other top story, a house party going horribly wrong and turning deadly early in the day. a fight erupted near bodega and pleasant hills avenues. by the time police arrived one man was dead, another on the run. andrea nakano is live with more. >> reporter: the suspect is in the jail tonight after being arrested this evening. just around 12:30 in the afternoon, police got a call of a stabbing in the parking lot right behind a grill. >> i was working in my office with a client, and we heard

really loud sirens, and i knew it was really close, i didn't know it was this close. right outside my building. >> reporter: investigators say a fight broke out at a house party nearby and it ended in this parking lot. they believe the suspect anthony eboch stabbed the victim cory vaughn several times. vaughn's friends who didn't want to speak on camera said he heard his friend calming out for help, he rushed over and saw two stab wounds to vaughn's stomach. he tried to resuscitate him, but vaughn died in his arms. witnesses describe a scene of complete shock and grief. >> one lady, um, she was crying so hard she just held her chest. i don't know if it was his mom or family member, but it was pretty devastating. i mean there was a lot of people impacted by what happened. >> reporter: police with the help of the sonoma county

sheriff's department then started an intense search for the suspect who fled the scene in this burgundy bmw. the 18-year-old spotted roughly six hours after the incident. at this point authorities haven't released what the two teens were fighting about. i also asked his friend about this, and he didn't seem to know what led to the dispute. andrea nakano, kpix 5. good news tonight, an exciting night for the oakland a's. they beat the best team in baseball with a no hitter. >> vern glenn is breaking it down. >> you know what 12 years ago, he's this 14-year-old kid, and he tossed a five anyoning no hitter, that's -- inning no hitter, that's little league though, and now a big league game against the red sox. let's take you to the ninth. two outs, ramirez at the plate.

69 percent said they had driven high in the last year and 10 percent believe they drive better when they're high. for now testing for marijuana impairment is complicated. it's not an exact science like a blood alcohol test. much of it is at the discretion of a police officer who uses traditional tests like walking in a line. >> we adjust as we grow as a society. >> reporter: defense lawyers and police say just because recreational pot is legal, it doesn't mean the long arm of the law will have a hands off approach when it comes to duis. defense attorneys say that a dui can cost you between 5 and $10,000 in court and legal fees. in south la, kpix 35. american heavyweight champion. -- kpix 5. and president trump is

considering a pardon for the a late boxer jack john who won the boxing title in 1908, but he was later convicted of accompanying a white woman across state lines. he was a fugitive for seven years before turning himself in. today president trump said actor sylvester stallone brought the story to his attention. president trump tweeted most thought this would be done, but yes i am considering a full pardon. tonight president trump is still trying to nail down the location for his upcoming meeting with north korea's dictator kim jong un. yesterday the regime said it's halting all nuclear test. here's more. >> reporter: the announcement by north korea's state media that kim jong un is suspending all nuclear tests and dismantling one of the country's nuclear test sites is being hailed by world leader, including president trump who calls it good news for north korea and the world.

the administration's demand north korea get rid of its entire nuclear arsenal has not been achieved, but the latest move is a signal kim jong un may be serious about denuclearization talks. the united nations ambassador haley says the un enforced sanctions worked. >> we came together and were able to enforce sanctions on north korea, isolate them until they had good behavior, and now we're seeing them want to come to the table. >> reporter: president trump said this week he was looking forward to meeting with kim by mid-june, but wants the summit to be productive. >> if the meeting when i'm there is not fruitful, i will respectfully leave the meeting. >> reporter: the summit's location has not yet been chosen, but possibilities include the peace village inside the korean demilitarized zone, a place off the coast, or neutral locations ranging from singapore to sweden. twice north korea has walked

back its own pledges to abandon its nuclear program, but while president trump is enthusiastic about the action, japan's prime minister was less so, saying it must be irreversible. one man is dead, five others heart after a shooting in san francisco's bay view district last night. six men between the ages of 19 and 31 were shot. a 20-year-old died and another man is fighting for his life. unclear if they knew ch other. police think that all of them were standing close to each other at the time of the shooting. it's unclear if they knew each other. there's no information on a suspect yet. san mateo county held its first ever missing persons day hoping to crack unsolved cases. investigators took dna samples from families with missing loved ones and are entering them into a national data base. the coroner's office says there are currently 440 unsolved

all. >> reporter: san jose led the nation in year over year median home price increases for the first quarter. this time last year homes were 33 percent cheaper. today the median home price in san jose will cost you 1.15 million. >> there's two reasons. >> reporter: gary says one reason is supply is at historic lows. in santa clara county he says there are just over 800 homes for sale. in a normal market there should be about 4,000. the second reason, one word, google. >> when google announced that campus, the prices of nearby houses dropped 5 percent that month. >> reporter: the demand for housing is so high, even condemned and burned homes are quickly being sold. a burned mountain view home for nearly one and a half million, a burned home in san jose for nearly a million, and a condemned home in fremont for more than a million. >> it's the land that has increased dramatically over time. the cost of building a home hasn't changed very much in the last ten years, the scarcity of

firefighters on the scene. it taking a live look at a three alarm fire in san francisco with about a hundred firefighters on the scene. it broke out about 9:45 this evening. this is a multistory building on 8th avenue in the inner sunset. the flames could be seen for some distance. we're told no one was hurt, and the red cross is on the scene to help evacuees.

no word yet on the cause. through wine it's been six months since devastating wildfires tore through wine country and people are still picking up the pieces. there's a desperate need to help homeowners rebuild. >> reporter: the fires that raged across the north bay are one of the worst disasters in california history. 43 people were killed, thousands of homes burned to the ground. >> when it happened in the north bay counties, it's sad, but it opened up a lot of work. >> reporter: six months now since the devastating wildfires, and a real need for contractors and construction workers to help get communities from santa rosa, napa, and solano counties back on their feet. >> there's obviously a need for a lot of trades people, and we'd like to be right on the forefront of providing our services to help those communities to rebuild. >> reporter: from the bay area to sacramento and up to the oregon border, head hunters are

scouting for local people to fill the dire need. >> we're looking for all kinds of people interested in the building trades. this is a very active time for the building trades, and the young people are going to be the future of this trade. >> reporter: at this job fair in fairfield friday, dozens of trade employers were on hand, ready to hire, and this napa high school student eager to learn. >> i'm interested in joining the business of construction and landscaping. >> reporter: the requirements for the carpenter apprenticeship program is a high school diploma or ged and entry level positions start at 23 to $25 an hour. >> there's a requirement of working 4800 hours and taking a number of classes. >> reporter: communities looking to rebuild, depending on skilled workers to step up and turn the ash and rubble into a place they can call home. >> when a natural disaster happen, it does open the construction trade and sadly at the loss of ones that lost

their homes, but at the same time it's putting more people to work. tonight.. >> companies also say they need engineers ask the truck drivers. money for wildfire recovery... her causes. tonight chefs and wineries in the north bay came together to raise money for wildfire recovery and other causes. the great chefs and wineries gala emceed by our betty yu raised money for life house that's for people with developmental disabilities. and on the eve of earth day it was all about building in the dirt aft san francisco's presidio. volunteers worked alongside archaeologists who have been digging for four years from april to october. >> the first thing we'll find as we dig today are actually the debris from the 1906 earthquake, so if you're from san francisco and the earthquake seems distant and
